We stopped in for a pint. The appetizers were so good, we stayed for dinner.

On my very first visit to Edinburgh, I needed a place to enjoy a couple of drinks and a meal. Though very busy, I recieved a warm welcome at the door and entered into a lively pub. The staff behind the bar went above and beyond in every aspect of their duties, ensuring every customer felt welcome, safe and appreciated. After a lovely conversation with two ladies from Switzerland, I ordered my meal.....beer battered haddock, chips and garden peas. As a former chippie manager, I am somewhat fussy but my plate arrived with plenty of chips and peas and the largest haddock I've had in a very long time. What was impressive was how fluffy and flavoursome the fish was. Even more impressive was the beautiful, light, crispy batter, the best I've had in over 20 years, if not ever. I cannot praise the staff, surroundings and quality of food enough. I intend to visit Edinburgh again and, when I do, The Fiddler's Arms will be my main stop for drinks and food. 10 out of 10.

Service was a bit spotty, but the food was great. The fish and chips is massive, can definitely be shared.

We ended the night here several times on our trip. We really enjoyed the laid back atmosphere and whiskey options. We split a sticky toffee pudding that was just divine. Staff was super nice and helpful.

A nice pub with good food. Busy with lots of tourists. Small wait for a table, but that did not disappoint as the food was great washed down with a nice beverage. The staff are friendly and welcoming. Recommend for a meal.

Tried to sit down to have a drink with the family shortly after lunch. We were told that they had a policy that said kids at the table had to be eating in order to have a table... we left the establishment asap. I understand that they are trying to make as much money as possible.... but geez it really made me feel angry.

Very warm welcome on a wet and windy Wednesday afternoon. Though tables are generally first come, first served, I had been able to reserve for 9 of us at 4.30 pm to follow a visit to Camera Obscura at the top of the Royal Mile. Knew this was an easy walk down the steps at the side of the castle, not a problem even in the rain. Staff are friendly, and the food served very tasty. We were rushing back to Waverly or would have stopped for pudding and coffee.

It was amazing, good food delicious.

Didn’t get a chance to eat here. Walked in on a slow afternoon and waited to be seated as instructed by their sign. Two women behind the bar didn’t acknowledge my presence and proceeded to serve a couple that came in after me and then was about to seat another until I said I had been waiting. I got a snarky response back that I could sit wherever. So I decided leave. Plenty of better places to try.

If you want to experience real scottish food fiddlers arms is the best. We had our lunch there and i had the best Haggis. Taste and presentation are superb. 👌 and also the location is perfect, just make sure to be there before it gets busy. Thank you for the great experience!

Very friendly pub to have a pint of quality beer and eat a good traditional Scottish dish. Proactive and friendly waiters, very beautiful setting and diversity of choice. Great value for money and fast service, worth testing!

We arrived around 3 pm as had trouble getting in on Friday night, so thought this might be a better time to grab a table. Sure enough it was slow and we sat down for a few drinks and food. The bangers and mash was amazing, the Cullen skink delish and the fish and chips was very tasty and a huge portion. Kyla, our server from PEI was sweet, friendly and courteous. Lovely establishment.

Great service, friendly staff & really good food portions. The vegan ‘fish’ n chips (banana blossom) was lovely. Sits right at the bottom of Grassmarket which is very lively.

The staff was able to help me choose between the pie and salmon. Minced beef pie with mash and veggies and OMG it was delicious. It was raining and very chilly this evening and this dish just got the spot for comfort and coziness!

Typical Edinburgh pub where we have tried typical food and also beer from here. The food is very good, especially the fish and chips.

Very nice pub, the waiters were very friendly. Place where you feel good. The food is good ! My herring soup (cullen skink) was really delicious! Small downside on my daughter's macaroni which was very dry/tasteless. The haggis was delicious! +1 for the kindness of the security guard at the entrance to the pub 🙂🫶🏻.

Great evening and the food was good for a pub. The veggie haggis was tasty and the sticky toffee pudding was just perfect and not overly sweet. The location is excellent.

Can’t comment expansively on the food - hake appetizers were decent. Friendly, efficient staff. Better beer alternatives than some pubs in the vicinity. Modern (ish) well-kept interior. Decent TVs, watched a rugby match. Best in the neighborhood.

It was late and every place has stopped serving food except here so we took a chance. I am so glad that we did. The whole experience was great! The server and manager were very nice. The beer was cold and the atmosphere was cozy and fun. My husband has a burger and I had the pie of the week. Both were great. The sauteed vegetables that came with it were fantastic! We had a great time and the prices were very reasonable.

This was my first choice for Cullen Skink I had it in Cullen . And im on a mission to find one as good . Although very tasty was more like a potato soup with a very little Haddock . Which was Disappointing. The Service was great quick and very friendly .

Very disapointed. At 6:45 p.m., the waiter told us that we had to wait for a table to become available for dinner. We are waiting. After 15 minutes, we sat down but the waitress told us after 10 minutes that they were no longer serving dinner. The service lacks coordination.

Veille de match France Ecosse, les pubs de grassmarket bondés et dans celui là quelques places assises libres. Méfiance mais au final un très bon Haggis, service sympa et groupe de musique à 21h très bien. On est revenus le lendemain samedi soir après le match. Toujours top…mais cuisine fermée vers 18h !

I emailed asking if this pub was dog friendly and tried ring numerous times all calls and emails ignored. Took my custom elsewhere. Shame as liked look of the menu. Lack of response from management and no answer of phone after calling over 10x let this place down

We had excellent service from Martin, Kyla, Matt and Freya! Friendly and helpful, so good we came back twice! Recommend the fish and chips and sandwiches. Enjoyed watching rugby and drinking cold pints with the locals!

We ordered the haggis, neeps and tatties as well as the bangers and mash. The food was fine but the service was a bit slow. Overall it was pretty good.

Nos metimos allí por error completamente. Las camareras eran muy desagradables con nosotros y la comida dejaba mucho que desear. Mi sándwich de pollo ( que para empezar eso no es pan de sándwich ) el pollo estaba sumamente marinado y especiado y sabía fatal y el bacon era demasiado gordo. No lo recomendaría.

Awful beer selection. A sad, pale imitation of the Fiddler's of old, which used to have some of the best cask beer in town.

Lovely pub and the food was delicious. The staff were lovely and welcoming and the place was nicely decorated with a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Really good value for money, I was happy with the prices. A nice view too, would recommend!

The restaurant was pretty quiet on a Monday night. No live music, American 90s rock playing. Servers were friendly and there were a few tables open. Bangers and mash was not great. The sausage was spicy, which was good, but the mash was dense, not fluffy, and the gravy was thick brown gravy, not the usual. Seasonal vegetables was cabbage that was a little soggy. Good presentation.

Stopped after dinner. Had tasty haggis bon bons, a good glass of wine and a lovely whisky. Was great to sit under the Castle on a Tuesday night with some happy tunes playing.

Lovely little pub in Edinburghs Old town with nice Mulled wine this time of year, staff very friendly.

I ordered a beef burger with bacon and it was delicious. The burger had some spice to it which was amazing. This was very filling the fries that accompanied the burger were crispy. The coleslaw was also good. The service was a bit odd where I had to wait for a while before I was sat and served and from where I sat I could see the waiters giving me odd looks. Rather confusing. I say this because as an observant person, I saw them attending to others quickly and with bigger smiles. I felt awkward. Anyway the food made me happy though😂

Dropped in for a dram and Rosie’s knowledge was second to non. She was able to identify a whiskey that my friend had years ago but couldn’t remember the name of it. Rosie knew the whiskey just by my friend describing the colour and the smell. Slange Var

Fantastic!! Just visited for the second time in a week for dinner. First night I had the banana blossom 'fish' and chips. OH MY!! BEST I HAVE EVER HAD! Served with a quarter of a lemon, gorgeous chips and peas. Really good. Second night I tried the vegetarian haggis and loved it. The prices are reasonable, staff friendly and service is quick and courteous. Thoroughly recommend.

Food was delicious, the veggie haggis was fantastic! Service was quite bad - I understand the staff are probably tired and busy but they were quite rude and sassy with their answers to basic questions, to us and those around us.

Great local place (hasn't been taken over by the chains). Best Cullen Skink we had in Scotland.

We really liked our dinner at the Fiddler's Arms. The staff were very nice and accommodating. I feel bad they have to bring the food up from the basement! I can only mention that the Mac and Cheese was very bland but my Mother ordered a pie that was amazing so I think we just ordered wrong.

MALAS MANERAS, MAL SERVICIO, GENTE CON POCAS GANAS DE TRABAJAR. El camarero pelirojo de pelo corto es super desagradable. Nos dijo de malas maneras que el local estaba lleno pero siguió sentando a gente después de nosotros. Sin duda un lugar para no ir ya que al decirle que por qué sentaba a otra gente nos empezó a gritar y nos dejó en la barra sin más. Le doy una estrella porque cero no se puede!

Honestly everything was great ! I got a perfect recommendation for the ale , the service was really friendly & the mashed potato’s were out of this world . I swear there must be magic in them, cool atmosphere ! Highly recommend

We had the fish & chips. They were excellent! Nice old pub atmosphere with excellent service.

Nice server, got seared right away. Beer is cold. I had the goat cheese salad, and it was magical! Warm goat cheese rounds on toasts topping a field green salad with balsamic vinegar dressing and pockled onions with cherry tomatoes-- it felt indulgent and healthy at the same time!

Tasty food and nice staff. We sat outside and we got to enjoy the Edinburgh energy and charm while eating our food. If you're passing by, I definitely recommend stopping by at least to have a beer.
