A true Scottish pub worthy of the name! The decor is very classic yet authentic. The atmosphere is friendly, the service impeccable, and the place is clean. The food is good and the prices are affordable. Don't hesitate to visit for a good time.

Huggies good but fish and chips tasteless.

I am very surprised that this place doesn’t have 5 stars. Stayed up the street a block at the Apex. Ate dinner here on last night in Edinburgh. What a great place! Got seated right away. Service was amazing. Food was excellent. The best Cullen skink I’ve had. Mince pie was fantastic. Good choice of beers and nice live music. If you go, ask for Michael to wait on you.

Set in a great area of the city. Popped in here a couple of times during a recent trip to Edinburgh. Staff friendly, service good. Had Cullen Skink for lunch which was really nice.

The food was okay, there were vegetarian alternatives, e.g. vegetarian haggis. The service was tried hard.

One of the places I recommend. We ate very well, they have a wide food menu (in Edinburgh they usually have a larger drinks menu than their food menu) and here we had variety. It is also located in a square that I loved: Grassmarket. It is pedestrian and has many bars and restaurants, in addition to the beautiful visit to Edinburgh Castle. I have to say it's always packed. We were lucky because we went early for dinner (6 p.m.). It has a small terrace outside, if the weather is good you can also eat outside.

My daughter and I came into the pub last Saturday afternoon. We were impressed with the friendly wait staff, cool atmosphere, and delicious food. We had Chardonnay, Cullen skink, and sticky Toffee pudding. The food was filling and well priced. We had a great time there! We'd definitely go back anytime. Unfortunately for us we had to go back home and leave Edinburgh. We can't wait to come to Scotland again.

Lovely spot with excellent views up the Grassmarket. They accommodated me quickly despite the lack of booking, and the meal was very tasty (I had a burger and delicious fries). Would definitely have gone back if I'd had a longer stay in Edinburgh.

Real good spot. Best grub I’ve eaten so far. The fish and chips were unreal. Service was a bit slow but the food was worth it. My buddy drank 10 pints of beer. I will never forget this day.

It was quite a great discovery. A great menu, the staff was quite nice and we ate well. The beer was quite disappointing, but maybe we didn't try a good one. There are vegetarian/vegan options. For the tourists, just note that the kitchen closes quite "early," so if you're used to eating near 8/9PM, it's better to go there around 7PM.

Great location, atmosphere, drinks and food! With a view to the Grassmarket, that's really cozy 😊 The service, however, is not great. I ordered a soup and a main course and I got the main course sooner. I asked if they could keep the main course warm for me while I eat the soup and the waitress said she'd be back but she just ignored us to the point where we sat there surrounded by our empty plates for quite a while after we finished the food. We asked another waiter for the bill eventually and were happy to leave.

The sticky toffee pudding was the real highlight—absolutely delicious. Beer selection was solid and well-poured. There was live music during my visit, which added a fun vibe, though I would’ve preferred local Scottish tunes over the cover songs. Still, definitely worth a visit if you’re in Edinburgh and looking for a welcoming pub with character.

Visited twice while staying in Edinburgh, a quaint little pub with solid food and drinks!

We were looking for a nice pub which sold food in the centre of Edinburgh, near the castle, that allowed dogs. We were there on a Saturday afternoon and the place was busy with every table, except ours taken. The order was taken quickly and the food arrived promptly too. We had the haggis, neeps and tatties, pulled pork burger and a pie. We were all very very happy with the food. It was a really friendly pub and we would definitely recommend it.

Veg haggis was A+. Loved everything we ate. Great local spot with Scottish fair and beers.

We dropped by spontaneously in the evening and were apparently lucky that a table just happened to be available. The staff was friendly and the food came quickly and was really tasty. We would definitely come back!

We stopped by for lunch while visiting Edinburgh and had an overall pleasant experience. The food itself was great—generous portions that made for a satisfying meal. The steak sandwich at £15 was definitely the right choice, offering good value for money. While the fish and chips were tasty, the £18 price tag felt a bit on the higher side. There is certainly some room for improvement when it comes to service, but we still enjoyed our visit.

Amazing food! Went back twice with my gf on our 4 day trip because it was so good.

I ate cullen skink and beer battered haddock & chips here. I liked it. They were large portions so the soup and a side are enough. You can also share the soup and then the haddock & chips with someone.

Discovering this pub upon our arrival in Edinburgh was a true delight. The server was exceptionally helpful, guiding us through their selection of beers and dishes. The food was outstanding; the sausages, reminiscent of meatloaf, were tender and bursting with flavor, while the smoked salmon was equally delectable. We enjoyed the experience so much that we returned the following evening. Being adventurous with our food choices, we tried the Haggis and Cullen Skink. We’re thrilled to have tried these unique dishes; the skink, similar to clam chowder but made with smoked fish, was particularly noteworthy. The Beer-battered Haddock and Chips were also exceptional—the best we’ve ever had! We even told the server we’d likely be back the next night as well.

Very unwelcome and rude service. Asked at bar if we could come in with children and order food. Initially said yes. Then looked around the bar and said he was unsure if he could fit us in. There was 2 empty tables which I pointed out. Replied that would not be able to accommodate buggy. The place was no where near full and we were turned away. What if I had a wheelchair instead of a buggy? Would same rules apply? Made to feel so embarrassed and unwelcome.

Friendly staff and crowd here is very international with the hostel across the street. Came in and some live music was on.

Classic pub, very clean, endless choice of beers and whiskeys with also different options (for all tastes) regarding food, slightly noisy but obviously it's a pub. Good food and very kind waiters.

Loved it! We visited several Pubs in the area around our apartment in GrassMarket and found this one on our last night. What an excellent way to end our week stay in Edinburgh

Went there for lunch and it was so good we had to come back the next day for dinner! Food was excellent, service was amazing, they were so kind to serve us the great sandwiches we came back for although they are served only until 5pm. Absolutely recommend!!

Apparently a private function...people the doorman likes the look of...he doesn't like the look of many people. Explains why the bar is empty on a Saturday night on six nations weekend. Whoever owns/runs this bar I can guess why your takings are down

Nice and cosy with a lovely view. Coffe is nice and strong and food is yummy. Also, John is always a pleasure to chat with. Greig is also lovely and has good chat :). Good beer selection and no cocktails it's a proper pub in the heart of the old town

A typical restaurant that is quite calm and relaxing. The servers are very nice, nothing to say. We had very typical dishes: fish and chips / bangers and mash / mac and cheese. And it was delicious!! Very filling for big eaters. A restaurant to taste.

Just around the corner from our hotel, this cosy pub was an excellent choice for our family lunch on a dreary New Years day. The food, including some great traditional choices, such as 'Cullen Skink' and 'Wee Haggis with Tatties and Neeps', was really good! The staff, also, were friendly and highly efficient.

My first time in Scotland, and was told the food in Scotland is caveman like, honestly, the food here was amazing. Well seasoned and flavorful. I definitely recommend this place to all my friends who visit the Gassmarket area.

Everything was 10 out of 10! The food vad very tasty, we had the bangers and mash, the fish and chips, the mini-haggis and the kids had the Mac and cheese! We all really recommends this place!

This place was great! We showed up around 6 on a Sunday and it was really busy - we waited maybe 20 minutes for a table, but just grabbed a seat at the bar and had a beer. My dad got bangers and mash and loved them, and I had a great bowl of Cullen Skink. My mom had the special daily soup - sweet potatoe and peanut, and a feta salad. We all loved our food, and topped it off with sticky toffee pudding! Only downside was the staff was stretched thin, so we often had to wave down someone or go in search of the very harried waitress, but when we did they were super nice. The food came out promptly, fwiw!

Fully booked when we got here, but they were nice and managed to squeeze us in. Very traditional Scottish food, not a lot of flavours, but seasoned and cooked perfectly. Service was alright, I enjoyed that a simple nod with my head and pointing to my glass was enough to get my glass full again within 30 seconds.

Not a great experience. Completely ignored despite obviously being at the bar waiting. Kitchen was closed and the perfectly English speaking people behind us were thrust a sign saying that it was closed instead of being spoken to like human beings. Ended up walking out. Funnily enough won't be going back nor recommending.

Stumbled upon this pub on our recent trip to Scotland. The fish & chips was amazing. Hubby had the Mac & cheese with bacon and loved it as well. Service was prompt, food came out quickly, and staff was very friendly! 100% recommend!

We had lunch at the Fiddler’s Arms. The pub is in Grassmarket in the Old Town. Outside, there is an amazing view of Edinburgh castle. We liked the traditional look and feel of the pub. The staff were friendly and we felt very welcome. Nice pint and wine, and decent lunch menu. We had club sandwiches and salad. Definitely recommend this pub.

I highly recommend Fiddler's Arms! I had the pie of the day for dinner, and it was a delicious chicken pie with a side of mashed potatoes and green vegetables. The servers were very friendly and attentive; thank you to John for the excellent service! I'm so glad I discovered this restaurant!

They offer local whiskey flights and great Scottish Pub food. Their staff were amazing and very kind, even when very busy. Honestly a great spot.

We had the fish and chips, and the bangers and mash. The food was all really good. Some of the best battered fish I've ever had. The batter was light and flavourful, and wasn't too much relative to the amount of fish. The bangers were also very good. Overall, very flavourful comfort food. I would definitely visit again and recommend to others.

Pub food was good but be aware of the service charge they add on the bill.
