The vegetarian meatballs were so good!

Quaint little corner bar. Not a huge venue so be mindful just before or after a show is about to begin as it's popular with pre/post theatre attendees. Pretty good cocktail menu but limited draught beer options.

Really good burgers. Beers were a bit too expensive for me with 6/7 pound per pint

Have ordered a cake that never came. When we asked for the bill the guy asked us to pay for it and presented the cake only then. Said he was not the chef and hence not responsible for the long waiting time. He insisted on us to pay for it...absolutely poor reaction and poor customer service. Hope he enjoyed the cake after we paid for it bit left without it...

Popular Swedish bar at the top of Leith Walk. Nice little outside seating area where you can watch the world go by. Staff are really friendly and prices are what you'd expect for a bar in and around the city centre. Tried the traditional Swedish meatballs and they were decent and came with some excellent proper chips. Kids fish and chips was delicious also

The Swedish Pub Maffia drink is a must try and the kladdkaka was almost as good as back home in sweden.

There for the quiz night It was very good quiz some the questions didn't suit us because we are of an older generation modern music wasn't for us Nor name. 10 film's of Jesse Elsenberg didn't have a clue the hell he was but we had a great time and the quiz master was excellent funny with a really great sense of humour We will be again when can get a few younger members in the Team Till next time good night and thanks for having us even though we were last Donni and Joe

We enjoyed delicious fish & chips and Swedish meatballs with mash in Joseph Pearce. Also a very decent Pinot Noir and lovely Moretti beer! The drinks, food and service in Joseph Pearce are always great. Thank you JPs team! 👍😊

Saturday evening, first dinner for the arrival of 2 French people in Edinburgh. Friendly welcome and attentive service from the whole young team, generous and tasty fish and chips and salmon salad. We had forgotten that a pint in Scotland is 568 ml...we got there nonetheless... We could go back there again.

It's an excellent spot if you want to drink beer and watch sports, especially rugby. The ambient is amazing, it gets very crowded during games. However, you can always make a reservation. The food is very good, but the portions are rather small for the price. I ordered the special. It was a brisket withe very good taste but very small.

Was at JP's for Six Nations Super Saturday (16 March 2024) and it was brilliant! Great atmosphere, nice range of beers on tap, and the food was fantastic (if you've never had a Frickle, you need to get that in your life! And the Smash Burger was cracking, too!). Staff were really engaging and helpful; would definitely consider booking again to watch the rugby and would certainly recomend as a great place to drink and eat.

Went to joseph Pearce to watch the Rugby on Saturday and it was a great experience. Good range of bears available, great staff and the food was excellent.

Great pub to watch the rugby on the whole - not normally too rammed! Staff are friendly and the pub is dog friendly too which is nice. Only complaint on this one occasion is that when I called up to book we were told we would be sat by the bar next to the big screen so that we could get a good view and audio but when we arrived we were put in the back room near the back where it was difficult to hear anything. Just a one off though!

Booked the back room for my partner's 30th - all the staff were lovely and super helpful!

We called in to watch a rugby match, stayed for food then returned the next evening for another meal. Great food, great prices, friendly staff and great service.

This is a good pub & go from time to time as it does serve Murphys on draft. Sadly pic should speak for itself as they need some in house training on serving a pint of beer think we had 6 pints each and none was pored right. Staff was lovely & we did tip but a full pint would be fantastic 😀

Mediocre food and service, extortionate drinks prices and no heating. Overall poor experience

Atmosphere is quite nice, cosy bar and seating area. Drinks are overpriced and not very well done. After half of the drinks menu wasn't available, we found a few drinks to order. The experience was rather unsatisfactory we've got a warmish IPA and a watery lemon water which was sold as Hot Toddy. The most expensive lemon water I've ever had. 😅 I did go back to the bar, explained that the hot toddy tastes rather incomplete and that the whisky seemed to be missing. I was sent away, after I was told that the drink was made without any errors and missing ingredients. Fun fact, the girl told me a list of ingredients that weren't even on the menu but was not interested on discussing the issue any further. So we finished our funky drinks and continued our journey. Quite disappointing experience but lucky there are many more really, really cool places in the area! Would not come back, would not recommend to anyone. Sorry.

I absolutely love the staff at JP’s. They are friendly, attentive and professional. I had the fish and chips this time and I did not enjoy the chips – I wonder if they are oven chips. In hindsight, I should’ve had the meatballs which are amazing.

Lovely find. The food is great I tried the dumplings on a 3 fo £18 offer absolutely lovely I definitely recommend visit the atmosphere is chilled and relaxed.

I booked a pre Christmas lunch for myself and my husband. Unfortunately my husband had come down with a nasty migraine the day before so I had to go on my own. The staff were absolutely lovely and looked after me like family. The food was wonderful and I had a lovely time. Thanks so much.

Not your average pub. They are not just dog-friendly, dogs are openly welcomed.

Very friendly staff especially the owners who have Scottish and Swedish roots and incorporated this in the foods they serve. I enjoyed a complementary Swedish dessert with my coffee which was delicious and a lovely surprise.

The staff was so kind and hospitable, everyone made me feel very welcomed on a busy Friday night. I had the swedish meatballs and the chocolate cake, both of which were delicious.

This used to be a pleasant bar. Now it’s noisy with television blaring in the bar. Expensive drinks and dirty stinking toilets. Avoid!

Amazing establishment and staff were very friendly and accommodating. Provided many great recommendations as visitors to Edinburgh and even made us specialty cocktails. Mal was an incredibly sweet bartender and makes a killer sour! Will definitely be returning.

Picture this: you walk on your way from Leith to Edinburgh, gasping, frothing at the mouth for the last taste of proper fish and chips before you hit the big smoke. With these fish and chips, paired with the Finnish classic of Hartwall's Long Drink, you just know you're in for something truly special. Making itself known at first is the chips, best eaten hot, retaining their fluffy inside and crispy outside prefect for dipping or honestly, just a delight by themselves. And Im not just saying this, many places will claim to have these attrobutes but none can claim to do them justice - many such cases! The peas serve as a perfect complement to the big two "fish" and "chips", mint is strewn between them with salt making itself known throughout this chorus of the culinary high life. Last of all, the fish, the mainstay, the headline act. Coming in loud and proud with a bold beer batter that warns you that this will live in your tastebuds for life. But then comes the fish itself, such beauty in vulnerability and power in freshness - thats what its for, to comfort you. Rest assured I will be back, proclaiming the good news of the fish, chips and lonkero from the hills. Smoking area at the front on sunny days and quick links to the tram and bus stops.

At Joseph Pierce I had one of the greatest experiences of my visit to in Scotland. I went in for a drink, specifically to try whiskey, as I wanted to buy some to take home. Christine was so enthusiastic and helpful - she walked me through the tasting process, talked about all their options, and provided recommendations based on my tastes. She and Ruaraidh then chatted with me to make such a pleasant evening. Everyone there was remarkably kind and warm, including Piper and the other two gentlemen behind the bar whose names I don't remember. It was an experience that I will never forget and I can't wait to back! Thank you so much!

Visited the pub with work colleagues & was surprised at the size of the place and the variety of drinks available.

I've been twice as part of a group & on both occasions no food. It's basic; the radiator under hand dryer is DISGUSTING in ladies. Music can be irritating if trying to converse with people who are not sat next to each other. Decent drinks & lovely staff

Nice pub, friendly enough staff, but I wouldn't bother ordering a cocktail. Paid £9 for a watery Manhattan with white vermouth and no bitters 🙃

Nice cocktails, not too expensive and friendly staff! A good place to go for after dinner or pre-show drinks! Its not too far from the Playhouse so a good place to go before or after for a couple of drinks!

Nice helpful staff , but it needs a bit of an update ,high stools very uncomfortable and crammed into a small space, very noisy inside.

Been there twice. Could not get from the bar to a seat without spilling my coffee into the saucer. Coffee was not hot enough. Could not mop up the spilt puddle of coffee from the saucer. Slurped the tepid coffee down and left.

A lovely Sunday afternoon spent @ JP’s watching the rugby….shame about the result 🫤😁 lovely large bright area to enjoy it in & doggo friendly (which helped ease the pain of the loss 😉). Friendly & accommodating staff 👌🙌🙌 one star off full marks only due to being a wee bit on the pricey side, but that said, a lovely bar & atmosphere ☺️

Warm and cosy on a cold evening but rather noisy

My vegan burger tasted exactly like the ones I buy from Aldi. The salad consisted of a couple of limp lettuce leaves and a tiny slice of tomato. The chips didn't arrive with my burger and when they did (I'd finished the burger by then) they were limp, over cooked and semi warm. The burger and the bun were over -cooked into near oblivion. My dining companion asked me not to complain, so I e-mailed the bar to describe my disappointment (on 28/2/23), no response. I should also add that the Fish and Chips were poor too, every thing on their plate looked like it had been cooked and then re-heated. Not sure what was going on with the food really. I like JP's, have eaten there before quite a few times and probably given them positive reviews on here, not this time though.

Great bar, great service, I hosted my 40th party there, they accommodated 40 + people, patient, courteous. Great place to go.

One of the best pubs in Edinburgh. Friendliest team. Great drinks & reasonably priced. Food menu bit hit or miss currently. And new tables in rear of pub are little uncomfortable for eating at. Lights could do with being dimmed a little.

I have been there a couple of times and food was really nice but this time I got a burger with fries. The patty had a strong flavour of paprika (I love paprika but, oh boy that was too much). It was so dry and the size of the patty was way too small, so I mainly ate the bread. The patty tasted like it was boiled first and then grilled. And the kimchi that supposed to be in the burger I just couldn't taste it or see it. I think it was overpriced for what they served . Wouldn't recommend it guys..

Ordered two Jo burgers and honestly looked like a 2 year old made it. Tiny burger,hard, over cooked and all you could taste was smoked paprika. Seriously waste of money . Spending £30 and literally had better at wetherspoons. Terrible tbh

Wow! This place is amazing! Both the drinks and the staff is outstanding! The staff really made this place special!

Let's start with positives, lovely, cosy bar. Unfortunately that's all on the positive side. We went there with couple of my friends for some drinks and food on a cold evening. We ordered some mulled wine and received it in small and only half full glasses. The mulled wine itself was ok so we wanted to order it again but we were told it was finished. I asked the waiter if they were going to make more and he said no. So we ordered hot toddy which was tasteless and lacked honey. Few minutes later we saw a mulled wine being served to another table by the same waiter so we asked if it was available again and we were told yes to the contrary what we were told a few minutes earlier. It is ok he might have not known, but when he found out they have it again it would have been nice of him to tell us. We decided to get some food and ordered meatballs, meat and vegan version. When we got the food no one came to ask if everything was ok. Vegan were ok but nothing special but the meaty mealballs tasted absolutely horrible, so all I ate from my meal was the mashed potatoes. Even though I left all the meatballs the waiter didn't ask if there was anything wrong with it. So as he was collecting the plates I told him I haven't eaten any of meatballs as they tasted horrible, he did not apologise and wasn't bothered at all, all he said was that he will pass this message to the chef, there was no intention to offer me something else to compensate for this. When we asked for the bill the meatballs were still there so I had to ask for them to be removed, which the waiter kindly did which I appreciate but I shouldn't have to ask for it. Having spent years during my uni years in hospitality, I can tell staff seriously lacks training, communication and cooking skills... I will not be back.

Have been a fan of this place for a long time. Friendly, great atmosphere, great location. Went for my works Christmas dinner there tonight. Food was excellent and reasonably priced. Very grateful to the staff for accommodating our last minute changes to numbers etc. Can definitely recommend.

Great christmas night out for drinks at Joseph Pearce, which we do every year. We were running late this year and they kept the table for us which was amazing - we'll be back for more drinks soon!

Staff were really helpful with my booking of 40. They were very welcoming and very helpful during my time there. Looking forward to my next visit.
