Wheyrigg Hall hotel in Allerdale

We stayed here for 2 nights.First impressions didn’t look like the picture shown in the advertising. A good lick of paint is needed.When we went to check in 2 members of staff behind the bar looked at us then ignored us and continued their conversation ( not a good start).Another member of staff then came up to us, checked us in then showed us to our room. The room was very musty and basic. It was apparent on the walls where damp was an issue.We were not given any information on where to eat or anything.The meals were good, I had the scampi on the first night and must say it was wonderful.The steak on the 2nd night was also good and the breakfasts were fine.The bar area was very basic and quite drab. In fact the hotel could do with a good refurbishment.Staff worked hard but there didn’t seem to be any management or co ordination of staff. There were very long waits for foodOn our last morning there there was a lady, who we had not seen on our last 2 days, ( she said loudly she had 20 grandchildren) she suggested to a young boy that he stood on his chair to pour his breakfast cereal.This seemed to go against any covid protocols and health and safety

Called in here for lunch with a friend. Sat outside in the lovely sunshine. Ordered hot beef sandwich and prawn and salmon sandwich with a portion of chips. Both sandwiches were packed with filling and my hot beef sandwich was very tasty with the added bonus of a jug of gravy which was also very tasty. Service was very good and friendly. I've recently moved to near here and will definitely return

Booked as we needed a hotel on our way to the lakes from Scotland. The reception was excellent by the young staff efficient and safe under the covid rules.A very good room perfectly presented, dinner and choice was excellent as was the again young staff all very professional and efficient, We would be very happy to stay in this hotel again when in the aera, Excellent breakfast and service too.

Enjoyed a nice lunch for 3 as part of the eat out to help out scheme. Very pleasant staff & good food. Venue a little dated but would return

We ended up staying here after our original hotel cancelled on us the same day. I called up and they had a room available, good price and breakfast included.We ended up having 2 evening meals while we stayed and the food was excellent. Friday was steak night, all food including breakfast is freshly made to order. Will definitely stay again, the staff are all very polite, helpful & friendlyThabks for a great stay

Just checked out after a lovely weekend. I would give 5 ☆ but decided on 4 for the simple fact that it's a little dated and could do with a little modernization. My hubby and myself were treat by our kids, £109 for 2 nights which included evening meal on 1st night and breakfast both mornings. Well worth the money. Highly recommend the chicken and bacon stack, and the chicken curry ( one of best I've had , and I love a good curry!) Lovely friendly staff, especially the 3 young girls who worked in the restaurant.....I work in hospitality myself and it's a hard job, they never stopped, always had smiles for everyone and nothing was too much trouble for them, even though hotel has only been open again for couple of weeks since lockdown was lifted. Also the lady who was on breakfast ( manager I think?) Was very friendly and helpful, working sunday morning alone and rushed off her feet!! All in all I would highly recommend this hotel.

Been here on several occasions and it never fails to impress me especially on a Friday evening which is Steak Night you have a very good choice starting from £10-10 a must if you like Steak.

This was our mid way stop and while only giving it 3 rating the hotel was really nice just maybe a little dated. This is possibly given its out of the way location. The staff, service, food and overall great feeling in the bar the night we stayed more than made up for the above though. Haven’t enjoyed an evening as much for a long while and Micheal in the bar area made us feel so welcome. Would we go back? Most definitely. Thanks Wheyrigg you did ya proud. Kev Vicky and group.

Had a Meal here with friends to celebrate a Birthday and it was a very busy night & we had a long wait for our food but when it eventually arrived it was very nice.

Lovely little place nice and attentive staff , could do with modernisation as very dated but everything is clean and comfortable. Food is very nice but the chips are classed as “our own famous hand cooked chips “ well at £3.20 for a tiny amount of what look like economy chips from herons I’d give them a miss

Found this lovely place while we were en route to Maryport. The food was excellent quality and well cooked. the staff were very welcoming and friendly.

We had dinner on our arrival and I must say the food was great. The staff were lovely and friendly and service was good. Had breakfast in morning and must say good selection and good servings. Would consider eating here again if I was in area. Made to feel very welcome. Staff a credit.

We ate there with our two children over the bank holiday weekend. Nice, friendly, country bar & Restaurant, great customer service and reasonably priced. The food came fairly quickly, decent portions and quality food. Has a five hygiene rating, was immaculate and would Definitely recommend.

Family reunion and we were all impressed. Great food, value and setting. Fab service and home made chips, always a winner! Portions were generous and nothing was too much trouble. Definitely great value and a favourite for us all. We waddled home after a great feed!
