I really like this pub. It seems unpretentious and has good beer. A CAMRA pub, and deserves that: the beer is well looked after.

We were told they don't do food here as they don't have a kitchen but we still stayed and played darts and had a drink

Nice little Pub, not in the main road with good beer.

Proper locals bar, but don't be put off by that. Very friendly and lovely beers plus they take camra vouchers. So win win.

Quiet pint on Friday lunchtime. Pub was clean and tidy if a bit scruffy; there was a smell of cleaning fluid (bleach?). Service was quick and the gantry was well stocked. No food so more of a drinkers pub rather than a family place. Handy for the bus station .

Really nice place, and glad it was the first one I found on arriving. Really close to the bus station so a great place to plan your time in St Andrews. Staff are wonderfully friendly and interesting, with lots of information about things to do around the town. Definitely recommend as your first port of call.

Didn't have food. Good choice of real ales and great entertainment.

Stopped in for lunch, staff were great. I'd been in touch prior to my visit as had a specific request, staff catered to it and were very welcoming and friendly. I'd definitely go back on another visit

Great pint of Deuchars, well more than one. No need to go to Leuchars stay close to the west port.

Went for drinks with my sister and a friend and was screamed at by the barman for swearing…. In a bar. I think he’s in the wrong profession, will never step foot in there again.

It was good. Good choice of ale. Service was ok and welcoming enough. Felt more of a locals bar but we would go back. Well located and a good starting point for a tour of what St Andrews has to offer

Excellent and friendly atmosphere, best pub to host large groups of friends. Food portions are massive and the staff are really friendly. They also have a darts board which make it an excellent game to play with a group of friends.

We had a nice drink here on a Saturday night, sitting in the back room (past the area where people were enjoying a game of darts). It was comfortable and a nice atmosphere in a proper pub, rather than a bland corporate chain. The bar manager was very friendly and welcoming.

My partner and i popped in for a drink and we recieved a really warm welcome from Keith. We found the pub to be cosy and a good atmosphere and Keith was very attentive. We would recomend this pub and we will be back.

As 4 adults visiting from Canada the pub was okay. Only food choices were nachos or pizza but the drinks were decent. A band was setting up as we were leaning but they were instrumental only. Many of the patrons looked a little shady but were harmless. Definitely not an upscale pub but good for a few pints.

Visited for a few drinks on Sunday afternoon. The pub was very busy due to football game - Celtic v Rangers. I have to say the two staff never stopped, especially the woman who acknowledged everyone and apologised for any wait while serving another customer. To keep a busy bar running and serving food was a credit to the pub.

One of the best pubs in town. Staff are amazing and pints are well priced for this area of fife. Barry poured me the best pint of Guinness I’ve ever had in Scotland.

The Whey Pat Tavern is the best pub in St. Andrews without a doubt. The service is excellent, the staff are very welcoming and the drinks are always of the best quality. The pint of Guinness I was served was served with such a good quality, of which I haven’t seen in St. Andrews before. Overall the Whey Pat deserves the recognition as the best pub in St. Andrews hands down.

What is the point of updating the kitchen time, if it closes at 20:30 anyways.

The whey pat is the social hub of st. andrews. The bar staff will always greet with you a big smile. They have a great selection of drinks - and seasonal cocktails! If your looking for an authentic pub full of heart, this is the place for you.

Over priced for a very ordinary bar

Nice pub, been going for years and always a good spot for a pint! Absolutely gutted that the nachos have changed, not up to the usual standard of the WheyPatchos which I used to love! More cheese and bring back the chilli please ;)

Went in with a few friends for a drink. Olivia, the bartender was friendly and chatty with our group. It was very obvious she is a people person and made us all feel very welcome. The venue is cosy and comfortable and creates a great vibe. After a few drinks we decided to get some food to set us up for the night. We ordered a few pizzas and a sharer of nachos. The food was incredible. I would highly recommend the Whey Pat for anyone in St andrews looking for a venue with friendly staff, a chilled out vibe and great food/drinks.

I have been to this pub several times when in St Andrews. Everyone is so friendly. A go to pub.

Almost 3 months later, still the most ideal pub if you'd like to join the locals or soak in a cosy, idyllic wee taste of the almost East Neuk. Lovely warm welcome, each and every time, gives me content, happy staff vibes, always a winner.

Really like using this pub with friends and so glad to return from break to see the assistant manager is no longer there. She was so rude and was always lording it about the pub not doing not much work. She also only ever showed any interest in male customers and was just rude to us girls: I’m a happy customer and so are all the girls that she’s gone. Brill wee pub and much better now.

Usual Scottish pub hospitality. No real atmosphere and pushed out the door as soon as the bar person rang the bell. They couldn't wait to get home even with our still half full drinks. And Uk pubs cry victim for why they are all closing. Irish pubs are thriving on the other hand!

I caught up with friends who were coincidentally were in the area too .My inlaws live in Crail and definitely coming back great ales nice and warm friendly staff .massive tvs brilliant. BACK ASAP welldone !!!

Just went in for a pint was a bit loud for us at the time we went in .Seemed OK food qas typical pub grub .

Attended the pub on a Tuesday night. To begin the pub was pleasant and a fine place to have a drink with friends. Around 8pm the back room where our group was sat started to be occupied by musicians which in its self would have been OK. What the issue was is that then everybody and his dog decided this was the place to sit! The room temperature must have been 30deg but not a single window was openable. This mixed with the fact that nobody seemed to care about personal space or property made the rest of night unbearable. If this is a regular thing surely it can be done in a more organised way instead of cramming people in like sardines whilst Covid is on the rise again. I subsequently contracted covid after this night 🤔

Great trad music session on Tuesday night. Really good and friendly too random musicians too.

This local Scottish pub ticks all boxes for a good evening out. All staff members very friendly (especially B) good darts, food and drinks make for w great time. Highly recommend.

Bar staff were very friendly. Enjoyable atmosphere, I will definitely be coming back. Alcohol prices are cheaper than the rest of the pub/ bars I visited over my time in St Andrews, I wish I found this place a couple of days earlier.

WHEY PAT KITCHEN IS CLOSED FOR MEALS UNTIL THE FIRST/SECOND WEEK OF MAY. Just learned this in a phone call rec'd from ass't mgr, 2 hours before due to arrive for 3pm lunch reservation. Kitchen closure not mentioned on web page or in email acknowledgement...

Visited this pub for the first time as our usual was full, and we'll come back again: friendly staff, good choice of draft, lots of tables.

Good clean accomodation..bit far out from centre

Poor start, as the barmaid didn't recognize the real ale I asked for. I was then asked if I was "by myself" (no explanation, but I read that it's seating only) and upon confirming that was allowed a drink. Fair enough. Given my change, five pound note and the rest. The beer is slightly on the turn, bit flat (I won't name the brewer). After finishing my first I go to order another (likely draft) as the rugby's on only to find that the note has ripped in the time it's gone into my pocket. I inform the barmaid. She waits to inform the manager. Who is insistent that I wasn't given a damaged note as he checked them all this morning. I say that it was fine when handed over - but there's obviously something faulty with it for it to collapse in going to my pocket. I've been honest, but left to feel like a liar. Not what pubs are about. Dread to think who they'd blame if you took them up that there was something wrong with the food or drink.
