BlackHorn in Fife

We needed a quick dinner when in St Andrews and ended up in BlackHorn. The place does wraps, burgers and hot dogs. We decided on burgers, chips and some onion rings. The burgers were nothing fancy in terms of toppings. They were just extremely nice, from the burger itself to the bun and the sauce. Sides were nice too and the atmosphere inside is good.

A recommended stop for an outstanding meal . Our burgers were cooked to perfection, the lettuce was fresh & tomatoes firm. Meat patties full of flavor. Milkshake alone is worth the visit Quick, friendly, clean, & and nice place

Was not expecting the food here to be just so amazing !!! It just looks like a take away place, so my experience of these places hasn’t always so good….this is an exception to the rule… the burgers are delicious, mouthwatering with flavours,freshly cooked I added goats cheese with mine it was perfection & the salad was full of chicken, plenty of room for lots of people recommend bringing your family. I love a burger I rate this 5⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ would rate more but that’s google for you

Brilliant burgers , first time visiting but certainly won't be the last

This is the second time my fiancée and I have been and it’s amazing, the food is incredible and the staff are always pleasant.

Amazing food!! Chicken and Beef burgers weren’t dry very juicy in flavour, wasn’t too busy but would say the seating is very close together, a few people struggled with prams, I would say the only issue was the fact that it was all self service but there was more than enough staff to serve tables, I had to order my food at the counter, ho back to collect my drinks, then collect my food, then empty my rubbish into the bins and take my empty tray and glasses to the counter whilst a member of staff watched me?!.

Super tasty burgers and very friendly staff. Another place we'll head back to at some point on our frequent visits to St Andrews.

Their single burger is not really a burger. More like a thick panini. Lousy.

The behaviour of the staff is incredible, the food too and the enviroment is very cozy

Everything was absolutely perfect; the ambient was calm but outgoing even in a crowdy and cloudy day; the personal was trully kind and friendly; the food, as an spanish guy, is the best I’ve ever taste in Scotland.

Great burgers in a no nonsense restaurant. Everything is made fresh. We ordered two burgers and a side of thick chips. If you're looking for a quick bite this is the place to be in St Andrews.

The Wild Thing salad with halloumi, hummus and falafel was delicious! My husband enjoyed his Classy Chick wrap with Brie, avocado, turkey and cranberry jelly. Delicious sweet potato fries!

Absolutly waste of a place. We ordered burgers, chips and onion rings. Inedible and cheap even Burger King or McDonald’s is much better. They don’t do table service even though there’s 3 women behind the bar so when your name is called (we were sitting quite far away and could barely hear our name over all the people in the place) we picked up our tray and could barely walk to our table with the tray with the sheer amount of people next to the bar. So stupid. It’s a glorified Burger King but worse. I would never spend my money here. Go to Saint Sizzle in St Andrews, you’re paying a little bit more but it’s much better!

Absolutely fantastic double cheese burger. Neatly wrapped in foil to contain the potential mess. Fast and pleasant service. Reasonable amount of seating inside. Hit the spot.

Quick lunch on the go, Blackhorn Dog was good. A little messy to eat on the move, should have thought it through better!

At first glance, the place is cozy and the menu promising. It's when you place an order that it gets complicated. There are 2 of us, we order 2 burgers, 2 sides and 2 drinks. The waiter has difficulty understanding the name of the burgers, we repeat it to him, he gets confused, he ends up repeating to us what was asked except that he must not have made the link with what he encoded on his computer. In the end, only the drinks were ok and the burgers were a little light. Unless we consider that a burger is limited to a slice of meat, a slice of tomato without sauce between 2 slices of bread. In short, I do not recommend

Nice setup for a quick meal, but really quite chilly if you choose to sit in - we kept our coats on while we ate. Food is lovely, but the size of a single burger patty could be a bit more generous, and that applies to the halloumi burger too. Ice cream sundaes are served in plastic cups even if you are eating in. I enjoyed it but I probably wouldn't bother going back.

The music was way too loud to have a conversation and it was pretty cold inside.

Your prices for a burger with cheese is around £5.65 then if you want additions it goes up like gherkins . I got cheeseburger and a grill burger ? Both with gherkins and chips and to finish 2 cokes. With a price tag of around £23. The burger patties has been squished down so much it’s too thin. My guess is that the place is trying to be a posh Burger King but miserably failing. The burger was tasty but just far too thin for my liking.

Always a high and consistent standard of food, burgers and hot dogs are especially good as are the French and sweet potato fries

Blackhorn Burgers is hands down the best burger in town! Seriously, do not bother with the other burger places in St Andrews (some of them are downright mediocre/ inedible). We've been to this place several times for takeout and sit-ins. Each time we've had fantastic burgers. High quality, juicy and well-seasoned patty that is cooked to a deep brown crust on the outside whilst the inside remains with the tiniest blush of pink. No dry, gristly and grey sad burgers here. We love the price point. Excellent burger and chunky chips for a more than reasonable price. The quality of the beef shines through. Bonus points for the dog friendly area in the back.

Best burger in Scotland… 3rd time back in 3 months and I don’t even live locally. I have dreams about the double bacon cheese burger with mayo and blackhorn sauce.

Awesome milkshakes definitely recommend going on Sunday for the deal. One of my favorite places to eat in town.

I have been before and enjoyed however last night I was very disappointed with my food. When it arrived my chips were stone cold and my burger was missing the extra bit of chicken I had ordered ( costing an extra £2.50 ) and it was also missing the onions and gerkins I had ordered ( both an extra 50p each ) half my burger was chicken and the other half was a tomato. Disappointed unfortunately.

Hygiene conditions is quite concerning, glasses were sticky and unwashed.

Went here with my friends and loved it. Such good food, even the vegetarian options are amazing.

Slightly disappointed by the misleading advertising displayed on Instagram advertising a Sunday Steal for £7 which states you can get "ANY burger, fries and drink of your choice". The advert also has a picture of a double cheeseburger, fries and a milkshake. I went to order exactly this and was told that only 2 of the burgers on the menu were included in this deal and it was soft drinks only. I still had the food and it was satisfactory and still thought it was decent value for money, but was left slightly aggrieved from my trip to get this deal due to the misleading ad.

Visited this restaurant for lunch. It is small, and different. The food and in particular the burgers were some of the best we have ever tasted. Sadly we live hundreds of miles away, or else we would be regular customers.

Friendly staff and you can watch your food being cooked if you stand/sit at the bar. When you order they ask you your first name and when your foods ready they call out your name which makes it more personal. Definitely use this place again whenever i'm in St.Andrews.

This place is fantastic, one of the best burgers you can get and their pricing is spot on. Service is always really good too. Highly recommend

Ordered Billy Goats Gruff Wrap. One of the best wraps I have ever had. Wrap thin and lightly toasted and goats cheese just right strength, not overpowering. Staff friendly and fast service. Will definitely come back next time when back in town with my husband.

The best burger in Scotland. The quality of the beef is beyond anything you'll find locally and beyond. Service is quick, even when busy and the prices have stayed more than reasonable over the years.

Not sure why the negative comments. This was my first visit back to my hometown for several years and I saw this place. For the price the food was lovely, quick and polite service and pleasant atmosphere. Would recommend for a quick bite to eat.

I recently dined at Blackhorn Burger in St Andrews with my family, and it was an absolute delight. The inviting ambiance combined with the delectable menu left us thoroughly impressed. From the juicy, flavorful burgers to the impeccable service, our experience was truly exceptional. Highly recommend for anyone craving a memorable culinary experience in St Andrews.

Food was great taste wise. It was busy and service was spot on. Only issue is that the servings could have been better.

Terrible hygiene practices - one of the staff used bare hands to put raw bacon on the grill, then without washing his hands grabbed my my fries and burger to put in the bag. So there's raw bacon on my food. Another server was handling cash and then immediately assembling burgers without cleaning her hands. I was so disgusted I had to throw my food out and go wash my hands to be safe. At least I only lost £8.

Blackhorn is a must when I am in St. Andrews. My favorite and go to item is the double blackhorn burger with chips. It’s so satisfying and will bring me back every time. Keep it up!

Food very basic and unimaginative. Need more use of onions and imaginative toppings

This bills itself on its burgers and hot dogs, which are alright but not amazing. Their wraps, however, are to die for. The atmosphere is casual: you put your order in at the front and listen for your name while you sit at a table.

Staff was really great. I ate here the last night of our stay and was literally the only place that would take us at 7pm without a reservation. Food being good was an absolute plus!

It's self-service, the food is fast but very good, the salad is delicious, and the sweet potatoes are delicious... the kids are very clever, and the price is low. Fair for the service they provide, but a very good place to go with the little ones!

We loved this place and visited twice during our holiday. Our little girl said it was the best burger she'd ever had (I'd have to agree). Blond female staff member was lovely and spent time chatting to us on both visits. Looking forward to coming back in 2024! Cheers

Cheap burger joint, the citizens are okay, but not special. Unfortunately, the staff is overwhelmed by food intolerances. Just like with tourists who don't have a Scottish accent.

I think it was telling that this place was empty when town was full to bursting. Place was staffed by young students, no obvious manager/ anyone directing the work, had a really chaotic feel. Food was mediocre, staff were disinterested bordering on rude. It was quite cheap, but still resented the cost as the experience was poor. Oh and ps. Don’t ask for gherkins, you won’t discern them , they are diced to a fine paste and you are allowed 1 tsp worth, pointless.

We came here for dinner last night and wished we hadn’t to be honest. We ordered a cheeseburger, bacon cheeseburger, hot dog, two fries and an onion rings. We had two vanilla shakes and a glass of wine. It came to £40 which is expensive but we went with it. However when it arrived it was the worst burgers I’ve ever had. I actually feel offended calling them burgers. They were the thinnest, most pathetic, tasteless bits of brown rubber. The hot dog (although made wrong with a big squirt of Alioli up the middle was awful too. Thankfully they replaced that for my wee boy. Everything was fried within an inch of its life and served in a bit of tinfoil. The staff although helpful clearly aren’t cooks and just young boys and girls clearly being shown how to shove some chips in a fryer and a thin burger on a hot plate. Gutted as it gets such good reviews and we left a decent pub/restaurant to go here. Wine was like vinegar but milkshakes probably the best we have tasted. Won’t be back ever

Solid but not outstanding place (my humble opinion).

We had the most delicious burgers here. The chips are also excellent. The guys behind the counter work very hard making sure everything is cooked, wrapped and served at a great pace. Very reasonable prices too. Blackthorn burgers is now added to our favourites list.

Food for all types of eater that tastes great. Staff are very good, polite and helpful, and go a long way to make it a nice little place to eat in. The 'single' toilet when we were in at lunchtime left a bit to be desired, and I'm sure that a few customers may have made mention of this to staff. But for the toilet needing more attention, it would have got 5 stars as everything else is so so good

Best burger I had in the UK by a lot. They nailed the crispiness of a nice smash burger while not having to be as thin. No idea how they pulled it off, just phenomenal. Shakes looked amazing but didn't get one.

Popped in for food whilst visiting St Andrews for the day. Best burger I've had for a long long time. Cooked really well, sauce was also good. The chunky Chips and onion rings were also best we've had in ages Would definitely recommend.

A really nice independent Burger & Dogs food outlet.

Food was so good in here we came back the next day. Delicious- from farm to shop. We had Rock Ness wraps, asked to put chicken in it instead of turkey and it was no problem. The chicken burger was to die for and my hubbie loved his cheese burger ( can't remember the name). Had a side of chips, onion rings and sweet potato fries...oh Lord they were good! The milkshakes are a must especially the strawberry cheesecake and Rocky Road sundae. Staff were friendly and very short wait for food. Go in, order your food at the bar and they will shout you when ready. Dont miss it! Sorry was too hungry and impatient to take photos.

It's probably the cheapest food you can find in St. Andrews. It's really tasty and simple and the staff is very friendly even when very busy. It's my go-to every time I come to visit.

I've had the chips on a previous visit, they were so good I had to have more on this visit. And I couldn't resist trying a burger, so glad I did, it was succulent and delicious. Seriously recommend this place.

The outside area is a great addition to the eating experience.

From the outside, this cafe looked really good, but the inside let it down. It was very much a paired-down "back street cafe" aesthetic inside. It was very small and the seating was basic and not comfortable. The ordering of food is done at the counter, and your name is shouted when the food is ready. The choice was very limited with no vegan or gluten-free options (burger in a lettuce leaf instead of a bun). I believe the beef burgers were ok. The chicken burger was "fine," and the "fries" were large and tasted ok. It was very much a place for a quick bite and then leave. If what you're looking for is a St. Andrews version of Five Guys/fast food this is it.

Visited their van at the fife show, waited over 1/2h for a very mediocre burger and tastless chicken burger with half cooked chips. I am sure their restraunt is better but they need to take a good look at their van as that experience has put a few in the line off visiting.

Half an hour wait for a simple burger! Took well over ten minutes just to be served (although in fairness we were a big group). When the burger did arrive it was thoroughly middle of the road. Results appear inconsistent, some of my friends had lots of sauce, I had very little. This is likely because while I was waiting the squeezy bottles of ketchup in the kitchen ran out so the staff member making up the burgers took out the catering size tub and just poured huge dollops of ketchup on the hot dogs. When he poured too much on one his supervisor took the sausage and ran it under a tap to wash it off, then reheated it for him to slobber in ketchup again. Obviously stuff like this happens everywhere but having an open kitchen means higher standards of presentation are important. I also saw a couple of orders being messed up and only corrected when the customer mentioned it, although in his defence this guy seemed new. I got the £7 Sunday meal deal which included chips (which were nice but the portion size was stingy) and if it weren't for the wait time I'd consider it good value. However, I could probably have walked to Tesco, bought burgers myself, and cooked them at home in the time this took. Which rather defeats the point of fast food. In summary, excruciatingly slow service for a reasonable quality burger. Go to Saints Sizzle instead!

Nice tasty burger but the staff need some serious food handling and hygiene training. Watched a 'cook' push down on an overflowing bin. His hand came out covered in ketchup. He then used dry blue paper towel to wipe and clean his hand and then picked up some fresh rolls and put them in the grill. I was shocked and quite disgusted and pointed out what had happened to who I believe is the owner/manager. He told the guy to wash his hands and as the sink was just on the other side of the counter where I was stood, very sarcastically showed me his wet hands and asked if that was OK. I pointed out that it wasn't for me to decide as he should know better working in a food environment.

Used to be hit, now it’s miss. Prices up, quality and size down. Must be bulk buying the ends of tomatoes because they consistently use the funniest looking tiny bits. Buns are different, beef is different ever since their butcher Minick went bust. Cashing in on being the only burger joint in town.

As usual, brilliant burgers. My go-to in St Andrews.

Not that impressed. The burguer was nothing to write about and it got lost in a much bigger bun, brioche-style which was dry from the grill. The chips and onion rings were OK, as well as the shake, but the quality of the burguer could definitely be improved.

Was good except customers at next table accepted our drinks as server delivered to wrong table.
