Awful fish and chips. Chips were not very well cooked. The fish tasteless, chewy and the batter was soggy (absolutely swimming in grease). Expensive and very disappointing.

Had fish and chips from the takeaway and ate them overlooking the huge superyacht in the harbour. Happy days.

Fantastic food and service. Cod and chips were delicious and generous portions. Kids had Aussie burgers which they loved. One of our boys is intolerant of potato and my wife asked if the Aussie burger ingredients could get mixed with/contaminated by potato, so the chef invited her into the kitchen and took the time to explain how the burger is prepared to reassure her - very helpful and considerate…and the kitchen was very clean! Would highly recommend and we’ll be going back later in our holiday.

Beautiful fish and chips, the kids portion was probably big enough for me (didn't stop me eating all of the adult portion though). Friendly staff and nicely decorated, will be back another time.

The worst chips I have ever tasted. Not cooked properly and not crispy, just a soggy mess. Obviously just catering for the passing holiday trade. Scampi just about alright.

Fantastic fish & chips! The haddock was super fresh and perfectly fried - definitely recommend trying it. The restaurant itself has a fun, quirky vibe too. The signs for the gents' and ladies' toilets were really amusing and gave me a good laugh.🤣

I was pleased I went in: my haddock and chips were freshly cooked. The chips were crispy on the outside and fluffy inside. The fish batter was quite light and very crispy. The fish, as would be expected in Dartmouth, was very fresh. A delicious “light lunch”!

Not the best fish and chips I have had. It filled an empty space. The shop was clean. The food was served quickly. The server was pleasant. The shop was empty. Take away available. Toilets up a set of stairs.

Food and service are really good. Definitely, we will go again if we have the opportunity. Atención buenísima. Los camareros muy amables y muy profesionales. La comida la sirven rápido y estaba todo muy bueno (si apetece pescado es muy buena opcion, pero tienes mas cosas para elegir). Muy buenas opciones para niños. Buena relación calidad-precio.

Very average takeaway fish and chips. Maybe we were just unlucky but none of the 4 of us were impressed.

We had tried a fish and chip shop by the harbour but it was busy, lucky for us though because one street behind we found this little gem, fabulous fish and chips, freshly made and non greasy. Really reasonable too. Lovely staff too. Thank you Wheelhouse

Best fish and chips I have had in years! I have been avoiding fish and chips lately due to the usual disappointment of soggy batter or overcooked fish but the cod and chips here were absolutely delicious! Actually perfect! We ate in as it was quiet, the service was quick and friendly, and it ensured our fish was piping hot.

On our last night we had a takeaway from here, absolutely superb, couldn't fault it. Even though we had to put it in the oven for a little while the batter on the fish was still lovely and crispy, I had chicken goujons which were also really good. Highly recommend

Excellent welcome. Bright clean and comfortable seating area. Lovely staff couldn't do enough to make our meal enjoyable. Brilliant food and good value to. Great location right in the middle of this Devon gem of a town. Thanks to John and his team for making another memory special.

Found this takeaway to be cheaper than the well known place in Dartmouth, so called for takeaway. Order was taken outside and then you have to wait around outside until your order is ready. Bit pricey, but so is every where else in Dartmouth :) Fish and chips were nice and hot, not greasy either

Went in and looked at the menu and we were clearly looking at the menu as we'd only been in their 5 seconds and the women shouted NEXT, when I didn't answer straight away she said "oh am I invisible" does this bitter rude looking women speak to all her customers like this? Food is so over priced for what it is. Over 30 pounds for 2 fish and chips a fishcakes and 3 drinks. Also took 15 minutes to be done. Sure they were doing it on purpose

Excellent fish & chips and amazing GF batter. We'd also been to Rockfish and they are both amazing. The Wheelhouse is cheaper but the staff are no less attentive or the food inferior. Really enjoyed our visit and was more than suitably full on leaving

We ordered two portions of chips and two curry sauces on a weekday evening and waited over 25 minutes! The portion size was good, but the chips themselves were very undercooked. Don’t get me wrong, this place tastes a lot better than Rockfish, but even so, it’s not a great alternative. Extremely slow service, staff acted like they had all the time in the world and weren’t overly friendly. However value for money wise, as I said, the portion was substantial which was good.

Chicken burger and battered sausage were good, but fish batter was very greasy and chips were undercooked and soggy.

People wouldn’t leave when they were done. The waitress took so long to clean up and service very slow. But food is ok. Only come if you have good patience.

Bad service, total chaos, food orders not served in order - wait for food much longer than quoted - shame as food was good but wouldn’t use again

Coeliacs beware ! NOT GLUTEN FREE as advertised. The menu states gluten free options, however when we went to place an order, we were told that the same scoop is used for both gluten and gluten free fryers. And we were told it depends how sensitive you are to gluten. This malpractice means the gluten free will be cross contaminated with gluten and shows a complete lack of knowledge of correct handling of food. Wheelhouse, please remove gluten free options from your menu until you have revised your food hygiene standards.

Best fish we've had in Dartmouth. Great service and reasonably priced

I wouldn't normally comment on here for something as simple as chips but these were about the best I've had in a very long while. Crisp, white and not greasy at all. We had scampi, a burger and a kids meal of sausage...all with the obligatory chips and it was excellent. Competitively priced, we ate in the restaurant area and were served really quickly. Highly recommend this place for a quick lunch.

We have been coming to Dartmouth as part of a family holiday every year since 2016 (Excluding covid) and we've always had lunch in this wonderful little chip shop, best fish you'll taste all year, nice and clean with very friendly staff, for a young family of six it's ideal. One small suggestion I might make, could you please invest a child's high chair, there very cheap and just make life so much easier for a family. Thank you x

Have been here for supper a few times over the years whenever we're in Dartmouth, always been very good fish and chips. Bit of a strange ordering system, everyone waits outside on the pavement, and the staff could do with smiling a bit, but the food is always good and at sensible (for a Devon seaside town) prices.

Had a really great lunch with friends. Was good I could book as didn't want to make the experience stressful looking for somewhere or queuing. Food is freshly cooked and delicious. Enough choice for everybody and good prices. Also good to have a full menu at lunchtime. Our friends had eaten out in Kingsbridge the night before and the equivalent meal was double the price. Great friendly staff. We will be back!

There is a gluten free menu on the wall so I asked about gluten free option. I was told that the food is cooked in the same fryer as the rest of the food. The person who severed me was so arrogant to me about about the gluten free option. So if you u need a gluten free option DO NOT GO THERE.. I hope that they advise gluten free option. It should be taken off the menu.

Such RUDE staff. I asked how big the large fish was. 'We've sold out!' I ordered 2 small fish and chips. The machine was pushed towards me without a word. Every customer who emerged to wait outside were spoken to in a similar way and were muttering about the rudeness. We stood outside feeling like we were naughty children! It was awful. A young girl had been waiting for the last bus so dared to go in and ask if her order was ready. 'I told you - 6 or 7 minutes!' said the other server. The girl, eventually summoned in by a finger gesture only, went to take a carrier on the counter only to be told she couldn't have one and a plastic bag was thrown across the counter towards her, not packed. The two servers snapped and glared. Not a hint of a smile or good service. At £15.90 for large fish and chips, I'd expect better. And it wasn't that great, either.

Excellent fish and chips nice light batter

This place was a lovely place for brunch. Four adults and a child. Bit expensive but deserving for the quality of service and food . Only lost a star because it was noted that children meals were only for children and I wanted a jacket potato and it was only in the children's section. Also not alot of people have great big appetites and the size of their children's meals were good sizes . I know they would like the money from big meals but so off putting. Otherwise I would still promote this cafe as a definite 👍

Great fish and chips. Fish beautifully cooked, non greasy and great chips too. Also tried the mixed platter with squid, scampi and hoki. Squid melted in the mouth, very nice. Staff really friendly and helpful too.

A memory came up on my FB page today of our trip to Dartmouth. And although it was 7 years ago, my late partner and I had a wonderful meal there. I don't eat seafood but I remember the very tasty Chicken goujons meal I had!! I do so hope that one day I will visit there again!
