Visited solo with my dog on a drive back. It was lovely sitting outside in the sun in the orchard under an apple tree. Nice unusual choice of ice cream flavours, good quality and unpasteurised milk to purchase too. Dog friendly ice cream tubs available. Large indoor seating area where other foods are served. Park for the children. Donkey food can be purchased to feed the donkeys. Ample parking

Got parked easily. Lots of large tables so can accommodated families easily. Charming staff smiling and helpful. Bacon buns - fresh bread but bacon thick and coated with what was probably burnt fat - hence 3/5. Need to improve these. Coffee very good. Ice cream excellent. Great for ice cream if you're on a family outing.

Visited here a good few years ago before Covid …….we were going to Hexham and thought here would be a good place to stop off for a bit of lunch. It’s a popular cafe and quite busy even though it’s kind of in the middle of nowhere really. A lovely garden to sit in weather permitting. It also sells ice cream which was very popular. It has a little shop there too . A nice place to visit.

This place is a firm favourite of ours. The little play area is great for our daughter and allows us to sit and sample the delicious coffee and cakes whilst she plays. The orchard is gorgeous in the summer, with a swing/slide and chickens, donkeys and cows to visit. Great ice cream, very cute gift shop and lovely staff that go above and beyond.

Facilities are good and have been used before however yesterday despite being booked (table of 10 for 10.30am) with assurances there would be ample cakes, scones and mince pies there were no cakes and no mince pies!! Scones also were depleted before we left. Most disappointing for our family pre Christmas get together.

Lovely location for a family get together just before Christmas however, we were very surprised at the lack of cake and mince pies available. Only a few scones and biscuits available. We will have to look elsewhere for future meetings, somewhere that has festive fare available.

We were all very disappointed with what was on offer food wise, A member of the family pre booked a table for a family get together and was apparently told that there would be a good selection on the menu, However, when we arrived this was not the case and everyone ended up with tea or coffee with the exception of one of us managed to get a scone. Sorry Wheelbirks but on this occasion you didn’t meet expectations .

We come to Wheelbirks very often, I’ve just had a baby & it’s my favourite place to go for a coffee with her to sit and relax, especially by the fire in the snug. We visit every season, my favourite is the summer in the beautiful orchard where you can enjoy ice cream while the children play in the garden, they love feeding the donkeys Hamish & Dougie. We’ve been to many events from open farm days, halloween hunts and Santa’s grotto where they each got a lovely gift. It’s a fabulous place to visit and you can spend the full day exploring inside & out. The food is all fresh & deliciously homemade with lots of variety for the kids. Come rain or shine there’s always something to do with the indoor pre school area. The staff are always very accommodating helping me to my table with our drinks tray when I have my hands full with 5 small children, the staff are always friendly and patient as it takes the little ones some time to decide which gorgeous ice cream to chose, they are never rushed to pick from all the lovely homemade flavours. Whether we want just coffee and cake or lunch we are never left disappointed, we always go home after a fabulous family day! For an extra little treat on the way out there is a huge range of adorable jellycats to chose from, my children are always admiring the cute teddies! My camera roll is full of days out at Wheelbirks I’ve attached a few from over the seasons as a snippet of all the fun had by all!

Visited with a friend for a catch up, what a lovely atmosphere. Had a coffee in the snug next to the fire, was lovely and cosy especially with it being cold outside. Treated myself to a scone, the staff were accommodating and warmed it up for me, will definitely be coming back for another one soon. Staff were very welcoming. Had a browse through the cowshed, their jellycat collection is amazing! Would highly recommend to anyone wanting a new spot to catch up with friends and family.

Decided to drive out for lunch today with our 18 month old. Were told there was a 40 minute wait for food which seemed strange as they weren't busy. When the food arrived (before 40 minutes fortunately) it definitely wasn't worth the drive over for. The loaded fries were ok but the bbq sauce tasted cheap. The frozen bought in burger was embarrassing looking and tasted revolting. The jacket potato was ok but no butter on or offered. No animals to see in the barn other than a few chickens and the donkeys in the field. We had ice cream afterwards. All flavours tasted the same and all of those were bland. Was a very disappointing visit and sadly we will not be returning.

What has happened to Wheelbirks? It used to be so good but now it appears that quantity has got in the way of quality. Today we ordered 2 specials from the board but within minutes of sitting down 2 separate servers tried to deliver a bacon sandwich to the table! When the correct food did arrive the 'beef sarnie' was tough and chewy, saturated in gravy and with the plate overwhelmed with chips. When we did complain to the person who served us he said that he knew nothing about food or cooking but would pass our complaints on to the kitchen. He was a nice lad but sadly he was totally useless and out of his depth. The cafe has got to rediscover the food appeal which it used to deliver because today's attempt is just not acceptable.

I came at the weekend with my two children aged five and seven . We had a fabulous first time visit at Wheelbirks. The farm has a lovely vibe to it. The old stone buildings are fantastic and you couldn’t wish for a better setting in the countryside. We all had ice cream which was sublime. Lots of flavours and very reasonably priced. I had a lovely strong cup of coffee too. The staff are very attentive, polite and hard working. It was busy yet the staff were not phased by it. The place was spotlessly clean too. Wheelbirks is clearly a well managed establishment so all credit to the management. The outside area is such a wonderful place to experience, especially when the weather is good. The kids loved observing the animals and having fun with the other kids. I wish I could have stayed there all day…. But I needed to head back to watch the match !!! ( which I deeply regret ha ha) . Really looking forward to visiting again over the next few weeks.

Unfortunately there were no choices for a gluten free snacks other than a very dry pre-packaged raspberry and almond tart which was overpriced. A GF scone would have been great, also service was quite poor (take it or leave it and no helpful suggestions of a sandwich for example). I’m always looking for savory snacks and there was zero choice. Constructive advise. Please extend the snack menu for those who are restricted as generally pre-packaged gf products are very poor. On the positives, it was nice to get a pot of hot water with the tea as standard as I often have to ask for this.

We love it here and come here often. My son loves the ice creams so much. The seating area for kids is lovely and separate from the rest of the seating, and it feels relaxed there. It can be very hot in the kids area on a hot day due to all the windows, but there’s lots of seating outside. The toys do often need updating/a clean but there’s a mix of bits there for the kids. More would definitely encourage more visitors though! The outdoor area has a slide and a swing and it’s beautiful. Lovely for the kids to see the animals and the view is stunning. The staff are always polite and helpful, we have visited countless times and I have never had anything but positive interactions with the staff. You can purchase drinks etc here to consume at canny crafty which is handy. They do serve sorbets but their menu in general is a bit limited for some dietary restrictions. We had some vegan friends who really struggled to choose a lunch that they would enjoy. We had paninis which were vegetarian which we enjoyed. I do wish they did a child’s portion of beans on toast, but we don’t really mind ordering the big one (it’s huge!). The milk isn’t pasterised but they do sign post this, so anyone with a weakened immune system/pregnant etc will be made aware. We love wheelbirks and think it’s a great, chilled day out. There’s some nice gifts in the shop too.

We go to Wheelbirks quite often. It’s lovely inside and also has an outside seating area which is great when the weather is good. Lots of space for children. We had an impromptu family get together on Saturday and phoned at 10 am to book a table for 11 am for 10 adults and 2 children in high chairs. Three of the family were over from Australia. They arranged two big tables for us all and we had a great time. The food was lovely and arrived quickly, as always and the staff looked after us really well. Topped off with 2 single scoop ice creams… loved the lemon pavlova! Staff team appeared young but super experienced and attentive. Wheelbirks Parlour today for a quick early lunch. Really disappointed. Pulled pork fries were frozen cheap fries, hardly any pork and had just been microwaved so fries all soft. Quite expensive for the quality and portion size. Bacon sandwich was £6 and tasted like cheap bacon with the bread covered in thick margarine. Ice cream was nice but cone was soft. Again for the price pretty poor. Table was dirty with thick amounts of left over food in table groove and dead flies on the window. Would not recommend.

We decided to give this place a go after seeing the sign and checking our trip adviser. When we arrived it is clear it is a working farm but out the back is the entrance to the restaurant. Inside it was nice but beyond this we saw a beautiful eating area and park outside which was ideal. However dogs were not allowed in this area despite it being outside so we had to sit out the front which really hasn’t been made into anything special so we didn’t get to experience the potential of the place. We ordered soup, a panini, chips, a child’s meal and a sandwich and with some soft drinks the bill came to £50. Was the food nice? Yeah it was okay. The soup was not great ( broccoli and Stilton). The panini with ham and cranberry and Brie was the best as the ham was ham hock. Was it £50 nice? No. Far to expensive.

Called mid afternoon during school holidays. Not our 1st visit but the 1st time it’s ever been sunny . It was really busy but lots of parking available. We found a table indoors easily but ordering food was a bit stressful as the ice cream q is long and it’s not obvious that you can bypass it to order at the till. The staff are friendly but I think they were just overwhelmed with the amount of customers so lacked the extra touches of making us feel really welcome, such as no meet and great or explaining activities or the extra menu boards. The food was good and service was quiet fast. Jacket potatoes were full of fillings with the right amount of salad. The kids meal had the right amount of kid friendly vey and a good potion of pasta great value for money. The ice cream is the star of the show delicious flavors and generous potions. We ventured out into the orchard to eat them and what a beautiful setting lovely space for kids.

This place is absolutely stunning. I’ve never been to a place with such welcoming staff and such an amazing atmosphere, not to mention the stunning interior of the parkour it’s self. Lucinda Richardson, the manager of the Parlour, was the most delightful person to speak to, she happily answered many questions about the farms history and the modern farm today. The cows looked incredibly happy in the fields and the lambs were such a delight to feed!! The staff are so friendly and helpful and the food was absolutely amazing. The ice cream was on another level of brilliant. I cannot award of this place enough, so much effort and work has clearly gone into Wheelbirks Parlour and it pays off as it is the best restaurant/ice cream parlour I have ever visited! We have been here several times now - the food and service is good and the building nicely appointed, although there always seems to be a rather chaotic queue around the ordering counter and cash register. The main problem here is that unless you go during term time, mid week, the place is inundated with kids who seem to take over the place. The noise levels are horrendous and really not condusive to a relaxing meal / coffee. They do have a 'no kids' seating section but the place is open plan, so if you'd rather not have your experience hijacked by squawking kiddies I would not go weekends / bank holidays / school holidays.

On previous visits I have only ever had ice cream but this time we had a light lunch and then ice cream. I had a bacon sandwich which was as good as I have had, and my wife had a delicious cheese and ham panini served with salad and coleslaw. We also had a small bowl of chips which I would have called a large bowl of chips. In summary the food was excellent, well presented, and the staff were friendly and efficient.

Wheelbirks is set out pleasantly with plenty of seating and child friendly areas. The meal was nice and very reasonably priced, unfortunately the ice creams all had the same blandness. We had visited twice so each person had different flavours but disappointed about the flavour on both occasions, however it is still worth a visit if in that area.

I called in to the parlour for a treat after a hectic day. When I ordered my cone I asked the server not to use his hands but to wrap the cone in a serviette. It was lifted out with a serviette but then placed in his hand for the scoops to be put in.

My wife and I popped in hear for lunch and found the food to be very good indeed. Generous portions and reasonably priced, what's not to like. The staff were friendly and helpful too. I would be more than happy to visit again when we are in the area.

I love it here and if you get to visit when the weather is nice the gardens are fantastic! It can be a little expensive but the staff are all great and you pay for the quality you get! Now really although there is food and coffee it's all about the ice creams and the milk! There's plenty of choice and it's yum yum yummy!

Ordered the steak sandwich with red onion chutney and fries and horseradish. Fantastic, filling, delicious home made lusciousness. Best chips I’ve had in a long time. Start of school hols and was clearly getting busy. Not many people walking. Do it. Lovely route up from Riding Mill.

Our family met there for a light lunch after an exercise filled morning on a lovely day. A table out in the orchard was ideal and the menu was simple but varied enough to meet our needs. Service was good and the food was great to the extent that we were all happy, and jealous of what the others were having - daily special, soup and sandwiches! The wonderful selection of home-made ice-cream was an added bonus at the end!

Visited with a group of friends but would be an ideal place to bring young children and families. It was a beautiful day and lots of people were enjoying the garden, sitting under trees in the shade. We sat inside and enjoyed coffee followed by delicious ice creams. The surroundings are comfortable with ample seating, service is good. There is an indoor play area for small children. Customers are welcome to see the cows who provide the milk for ice cream and rescue battery hens roam the gardens which provide eggs.

Our first visit and pleasantly surprised. A pretty orchard park for the kids and tasty ice cream. Sadly, Morwick near Warkworth wins the ice cream contest though.

This was our second time visiting Wheelbirks and will be our last. I went with my daughter and Grandchildren last week had to take my Coffee back because it was cold. My Granddaughter got Cheesy Pasta. When it came it was a small amount of plane pasta with the tiniest amount of cheese on the top served with a tiny drink of apple juice for the sum of £5 . Today we were there for opening time ,i got my coffee and when i drank it it was sour. When i was in the queue the lady who i think was in charge was telling the girl to make sure she put everything away on a night. She must have left the milk out all night. Now i will get to the lowest point my 3 year old Grandson got an ice cream sugar cone and while his mam was paying the sugar cone disintergrated in his hand and it fell on the floor. The girl serving gave him a tub to put it in for him to eat !!! He would never be allowed to eat anything off the floor . We will not return after todays episode which is a shame its a beautiful setting.

I run a walking group called "Interesting Walks" and we approached Wheelbirks Parlour to enquire if we could arrange a visit for 33 of our group.. The response was amazing and the owners Lucinda and Tom along with their amazing staff could not do enough to accommodate us. I thought lunch would prove a problem to organise but not at all. The food was amazing and delicious with a good selection on offer to suit all of our group including very nice vegetarian choices .. Many tried the wonderful Wheelbirks Parlour ice cream and found it a knock out... No wonder that Wheelbirks is on everyone's 'Must Visit' list as the place is a gem and really knows how to look after visitors.. We will be going back again for sure... Thank you Wheelbirks Parlour for a brilliant experience

I am biased I have been getting milk from here since I was a little dot over 40 years ago but now as an ice-cream parlour and eaterie it is my whole family's favourite. Mrs R treats my elderly parents with immense kindness and the food is good tasty simple stuff. Yes it is full in the holidays but what do you expect of an ice-cream parlour when the children are off? It's superbly cosy in the Winter too. I offered my parents a fancy restaurant for their Golden Wedding and they just wanted this place. This isn't so much a review as a thanks especially for last Thursday when Mrs R was so busy she'd drafted in her daughters and still made time to talk to them. The ONLY place to go.

We've called in here a few times and it's just a lovely ice cream parlour with the most fabulous ice cream! My little one (7months old) even loves it, and seeing the calves relaxing in their barn is so cute! The staff are spot on and they do a very good job even when it's super busy. You've got yourselves a forever returning customer here.

Popped in on a Sat morning on recommendation. We had a milkshake, latte and treacle tart. Delicious. It was a gorgeous day so we sat outside in the orchard. Bought a small item from the gift shop, could have spent a fortune! We returned the following lunchtime. Lucinda remembered us and gave us a warm welcome. The place was packed on this occasion, lots of families. The child-free zone was (unsurprisingly) full so we took a small table near the serving area and soon found ourselves surrounded by boisterous children and rude parents. We couldn't hear ourselves think so as soon as we'd finished our food, we took our drinks outside for some peace, the rude parents descending on our table before we'd cleared it! Would return if we're in the area again, but on a quieter day or perhaps the child-free zone could be extended? Loved seeing the calves in the barn, so cute, and enjoyed reading the information boards in the cafe.

Yesterday I visited Wheelbirks for the second time in a week and once again we were very disappointed. I do appreciate it was a very busy day & in this event I think it would be helpful to have a board near the entrance with ice cream flavours of the day on it. However instead like us with children you stand for a further 5+ mins whilst they try to make up there minds, due to health problems I find standing for long periods very difficult. I also didn’t appreciate having someone stood next to the enterance smoking a cigarette, I’m shocked that they allow smoking anywhere on site as this parlour is situated in the heart of a working farm. Our first visit of the week was for food, after seeing several people being served their food before us when they were in the queue behind us. We were a party of 2 they were a party of 6 and they ordered what we ordered. When I complained our food quickly arrived & my jacket potato was cold & over cooked. In all the quality was very poor, there was also spilt food on the floor next to our table which all staff ignored & was only cleared up when the owner appeared & she picked it up immediately. As regular visitors to this parlour as my granddaughter has a nut allergy & they’ve always been on the ball when we’ve told them we were there ensuring her safety at all times whilst serving both food & ice cream. But after our last two visits I now doubt if we’ll return, totally disappointed!

Visited a few times but first time writing a review! This place is a dream!! Ice cream is gorgeous, coffee is lovely, surroundings are stylish and inviting. Staff are so helpful and friendly. Perfect place for visiting with little ones as chickens and beautiful jersey calves to see. I visited most recently with a group of special needs students and we couldn't have been made more welcome!! Will be returning! Well done on this gem of a place

Called 4/2/18 was quite busy but felt very unwelcoming. Looking for a table staff looked uninterested to many large tables when you are just a two. We would never take a table that seats 6/8 people maybe that is where we go wrong we are to considerate. It has a family play area so why not have smaller tables in eating area and why an active table when a player area. Not sure we will be back.

Large chain, standard menu offerings, busy, noisy setting, but good sea views, nice outside area. Food came quickly once managed to order at the busy bar. Burger sauce was the best item. Small burger Pattie, creamy coleslaw, hubby had monkfish scampi, bit over battered. Both sets of chips under cooked, when we were asked how our meal was, our reply was just received with blank stare and no response before waiter cleared our plates and left! Buffet breakfast the following morning as we expected! Basic sausages, overcooked black pudding, the bacon, mushrooms and hash browns ok, had run out of baked beans, but at least you could order different eggs if didn’t fancy fried.

Cool bar with friendly clientele. Staff are smiley and attentive. Love the skiing theme and the Brewdog beer. Great having the ski videos on the big screen aswell. Just a thought, have you thought about showing the live skiing on Eurosport/Discovery+?

It was ok but nothing to push the boat out for. My daughter wanted chicken tikka panini but apparently had no tikka, I asked for a sandwich on brown bread cake but they had no brown bread cakes left. Really?? And this was only just after noon. Nothing special about the ham sandwich which all in all tasted bland. The dog ate most of it.
