There's a choice of outdoor seating and ground floor next to the service area, or upstairs (where dogs aren't allowed). They have very nice coffee (I would say exceptional), but their cheese scones were not fresh (they had the possibility of being good had they just come out of the oven).

Wanted a coffee and fresh air before doing our canal walk great coffee the best ! Lots of shade and seats in and outside great place definitely go again will take a coffee to go next time too Banana ice cream was tasty too had a cheese scone to take away for later Duck food was useful too for the canal walk

I think the prices are very high for what you get. £7 for a scone and latte. Both were average. Location is nice right next to canal.

Lovely place to sit in the terrace

Undercooked stodgy scone. Burnt tea cake that took over 30 minutes to arrive. When it did eventually arrive, no butter and no knife.

Good coffee and lovely helpful staff. There is excellent upstairs seating, smaller downstairs and a large covered area outside with picnic benches. A limited food offering for lunch but well done. Takeout available too if you are picnicking in the public areas nearby

Idyllic cafe at the end of the Cromford canal. Nice tea and coffee choices plus the usual sandwiches and breakfast. Sells duck food and prepacked kids picnics.

Great place for a hot or cold drink and a bite to eat. The service is quick and friendly and you can sit either in the cafe or on a good day, outside under the canopies. The choice of hot drinks is varied but we haven't tried the food yet but it smelt delicious on our last visit. Situated by the Cromford canal it can be an idealic place to sit and watch the ducks and other wildlife.

Nice location but thats about all this cafe has going for it, staff were more interested in chatting with a young foul mouthed guy than getting our order correct. Tea was bland & scone was like a rock cake. There’s much better choices nearby if you want a good cuppa & nice food.

Oh dear. Not a great first visit. We queued for around 30 minutes to order food and drinks despite it being relatively late for lunch. This said, the serving staff were working very hard in very stressful conditions. It seems the system is the issue. The food was, at best, average in quality and completely overpriced. We ordered the quiche which had obviously been heated in a microwave (the pastry was quite rubbery) and was served with a salad (not dressed and with very hard, unripe tomatoes). We also ordered the roasted vegetable ’salad’. This consisted of a few mushrooms and peppers on undressed leaves with coleslaw and a minuscule amount of hummus (a very strange combo but still succeeded in being completely lacking in any flavour!) The waiting staff were quite surly which added to the unpleasant experience. Lastly, it is worth mentioning that there is only one loo for all customers which is situated upstairs so also inaccessible. Needless to say, we will never return.

There is more duck poo than coffee cups and yet, you kind of don't mind... A random and welcome little find by the canal. 🦆

Painfully slow service despite only being at 50% capacity. I only wanted 2 cold drinks. Tired tableware, there’s much better choices for only a short walk.

We decided to call in again Sunday as walking down the canal. The staff did not seem happy the chef was moody and snappy. The manager was awful with the staff. 2 young males were treated very rudely by the manager, who was aggressive, nasty tempered, and being very rude to all her staff. 3 times we've been here now and 3 times no one seems happy 😕 someone needs to step in and control the manager and maybe send her on customer service course. Coffees were hot and tasty as always food was ok but had better.

Great view from upstairs sofa along canal. Food reasonable. Can be crowded in summer.

Called in with our dog, the area down stairs and outside was dogs friendly, but it was cold so we wanted to go inside. Upstairs was relatively empty, but we couldn't take the dog up there. Down stair where we could was full with people without dogs. If there is a dog friendly area please put signs on the tables asking people without dogs to leave these tables free for people with dogs, would have understood if the place was full. We left and went somewhere else.

Long due waiting to order pleasantly greeted on ordering que again for hot drinks eventually our food arrived.... highly delighted... scrumptious ..... PANNINI..... was actually CIABATTIA

What a spot to sit and have a cuppa and some cake, the beautiful canal and historic buildings all around you with a spacious car park to the side.

Nice area with a good car park, toilets and an eatery. You can then walk along the Cromford Canal.

It was ok. We came for lunch. Tables hadn’t been wiped clean. The food portions were generous. My flatbread with sausage, onion and cheese wasn’t very nice, as it was mainly bread and onion and soggy in the middle. The canal setting is always nice.

Average food, small portions for size, limited options for Celiacs - person taking the order didn't even know what that meant.

Visited on two occasions this week following walks along the Cromford Canal. We enjoyed our coffee on both occasions in the upstairs setting which was quiet and relaxing at this time of year.

We didn't have food this time, because for a bitter cold Monday it was very busy and the staff were a little rushed, but the food that drifted past looked fab. The coffee was good and it is a lovely spot at the Cromford end of the canal. You just have be brave enough to ask people to move their rucksacks, coats etc. so you can sit and share a table, not the cafés fault, obviously.

Such a cool building. The upstairs area was very quiet. Food was also lovely.

Best breakfast in a while. Lovely setting. Warm welcome & most of all great food. We had the Mill breakfast and the oatcakes were delicious. We didn’t have to wait long and in particular the young guy Oliver that made our coffees and served them gave service with a smile. Would definitely come back and we had the added bonus of a walk around the shops at Cromford Mill. Lovely day!

This is our second visit following one in Oct 2023, and our thoughts have remained the same. Food is good but customer service remains poor. We sat at an empty table but the table had a previous customer’s tray and debris on it. No one came to take this away and disinfect the table. We also asked for a high chair and was told to look under the stairs. The high chair was difficult to reach as it was stored behind other spare chairs. When we finally extracted the high chair ourselves we found it was dirty and had obviously not been wiped from previous usage. So as in our previous visit we ended up trying to clean our table and put the previous customer’s tray on the floor 🤷‍♂️ Staff need to be more aware of when tables are vacated and make sure they’re cleared and clean for the next visitors.

Food good, 3 staff serving on a quite busy lunch time. Disappointed everyone who were eating had to overhear, what should have been private conversation between staff, they even carried on talking while serving customers. No need for this.

The young staff do an excellent job! Great place for lunch and a chat after a walk around Cromford. Food is made locally or on-site. Plenty of outdoor and indoor seating, including level access. + Just updating my review (above) from 2 yrs. ago. Still a great place. All the staff and especially the chef work very hard.

been here several times Usually have a toasted PANNINi...... its always served in a bread roll other than a PANNINI roll.... sometimes tastier if using a different bread to that advertised the please inform the customer

Stumbled across this lovely cafe whilst recc'ing a walk for our group next year. And what a find it was, the staff are very friendly and couldn't do enough for us. The food was excellent with a wide choice and plenty of space to sit in. We will definately be bringing the group back here next year. Thank you.

Excellent hot drinks and cakes.

We call occasionally living locally. Called yesterday with friends it was busy downstairs and a few upstairs. The queue for service was slow and when it was my turn a lady took the order and a young girl after a few minutes asked me if I was being served. I told her my order had already been given she turned and picked up a tray which had already on it 4 saucers and milk with what I had ordered. She proceeded to make the drinks to start and put on the tray 2 americanos I said no 2 cappuccino 1 americano 1 tea. The lady came to her side and quite abruptly told her to read the order tab. I felt a little sorry for her as I take it she was reasonably new. It did not stop her reading the order correctly and by the time I was served there was quite a queue and no one else serving.

Arrived to find plenty of spare tables available but all needed clearing and wiping. We sat at a table expecting table to be cleared in a few minutes. Ordered food at the till and requested hot drinks to be brought with the food - but was told this is not possible - we had to take hot drinks direct from the till area. When the food came (which was fine) the table had still not been cleared and cleaned. The waitress somehow found space to drop our 3 plates down and said she would clear the table - BUT SHE DID’NT! We cleared the table ourselves. Staff need to be more aware of when tables are vacated and make sure they’re cleared and clean for the next visitors.

Had tuna panini which came with salad and delicious homemade coleslaw and a Pumpkin latte worth a visit

Our favourite coffee stop on the Cromford canal great coffee and very good gluten free cake selection. Had caramel slice today and you could not tell it was gluten free. Great staff an all round good experience.

Yes, it is very good indeed, and I had a coffee and cake came to £6.50 which is not that bad. But to park in the car park area for 2 hours that came to £ 2.50. Me and friends meet here.

We visited yesterday afternoon and wanted a bite to eat and a hot drink. We had a bacon and Brie sandwich between us. I had a coffee and my wife had a pot of tea. The sandwich was very tasty. The pot of tea made three cups.

When we go on a staycation we like to end with a locally sourced fresh produce breakfast. Found the Wheatcroft’s Wharf Cafe after Googling. Initially no menu on table as there was meant to be. No cutlery available, had to request after receiving order. No basic salt and pepper on the table. The breakfast’s were meant to be local produce but IMO it was not. Requested a fried egg which was served burnt, the presentation was as if it had been chucked on the plate. My partner had a sausage bap, however the sausages were undercooked and looked anaemic. We ordered lattes which we wanted after breakfast but staff were unable to do and were advised to order these separately. Overall this was a terrible experience and resulted in us getting a full refund. We would not recommend.

Good food but can take a while to get served. Could redesign operations to reduce time required to serve each customer.

Good range of lunch dishes. We had quiche and jacket potato which were both good. We sat outside by the canal where most of the tables were under cover. Very handy if you are walking along the canal or just want a quick bite.

£27 for 5 small coffees and 4 cakes. Then we sat upstairs surrounded by wasps and marvelled at the mould on the top of the green canopies outside. Will take a flask next time. Hate being ripped off.

Lovely place to grab a bacon sandwich and a coffee on a fine summer morning. Staff friendly. Lovely vibrant environment with lots going on - Kids canoeing, narrow boat trips, pottery store and Cromsford Mill across the road.

Had a tuna panini priced at £8.25 and it was a rip off with hardly any filling . Could only think it was a way of maximising profits- sorry if you want returning custom you need to be fair.

Best Bacon cobs in the area. Severed by pleasant staff . Good place to stop if you are in the area. Will visit again

Lovely gem of a cafe on canal side. We had fabulous home made tomato roasted pepper and bacon soup for lunch. Service was excellent as were the prices.

I gave these guys a great review four years ago. Only the service speed was lacking due to the system (not the Staff). Went again this weekend and the service speed is not better - despite less customers - but the prices have taken an overnight hike. £5.35 for a cup of tea and a scone. Really? A shame. The place itself is clean, pleasant and staff friendly. Well laid out inside and out but at these prohibitive prices I can see why folks are having second thoughts. Another mid-walk venue to swerve and all due to greedy profits. Ah well. Short term gains, etc.

Beautiful place. Can be a little pricey for a few items but it's always great and a new favourite when we're in the area.

Stopped off for a little drink and snack. Seating outside right next to the canal. Lovely places but can get busy on nice days.

Nice and friendly and a real tranquil location, the menu was great if you like cheese, even the soup had cheese in it, unfortunately I can't eat it and the only non cheesy item was a simple sausage roll which left me a little underwhelmed (and hungry) my companions really enjoyed what they are and thought it good value.. So I suppose it gets a middling mark because of the lack of variety on the menu

Good old fashion customer service. So very friendly and genuine hospitality. Very nice coffee too.

Called here Monday as passing through. Wanted a lovely full breakfast. Never again. The hash browns were hard and overcooked the sausages couldn't even cut through and the full breakfast was disgusting. Had a refund on both from the lady serving. She was lovely and happy to assist. The coffees were lovely and the girls were helpful and happy. The cook was awful his attitude towards the other staff was shocking he was absolutely vile and spoke to one member of the staff absolutely disgusting. Been a few times but never again. The cook ruined it for us. Never known such dis respect against young women.

Arrived early for coffee, staff had to collect fresh baked scones from the mill site opposite. Very tasty. Enjoyed sitting outside watching the ducks and the canal

Tuna sandwich rushed out and tasted of nothing, scone dry, latte terrible, but wife’s Mocca was nice… £18… will never go back - Staff seemed in a rush to leave !

Both Managers Breakfast, (not THE actual manager's breakfast, as that would be stealing 😉) and the coffee was very good. Everything else we saw looked good too. Cafe itself was very atmospheric and well renovated. Good views from upstairs seating.

Shocking ordered ham and cheese panini. Came out big thick chunk of toasted cob. Ham and cheese ??? Tiniest bit of very thin tasteless ham and the cheese had melted so much it was none existant. Definatetly won't be going back.. if you want decent...

Terrible toasties...all bread...no filling...expensive for rubbish food...will not go again

Had lunch for mother's Day , food shocking bread black over done, it was terrible they served it to us, told the staff member he said they are busy and over worked, he wasn't that keen on changing it but we insisted, he brought us another one that was terrible as well no filling inside it. Well done Wheatcroft,, you ruined a mother's Day lunch.

Lovely cafe at the end of the Cromford canal, opposite Cromford Mill. Food is excellent and quick serving and well priced. Room downstairs and upstairs for a cold day and outdoor seating for warm summer weather. Staff are friendly and helpful and the setting and outlook is great

Just had the worst baked potato ever. Must have been re heated several times. How can someone manage to cut this open and think it is acceptable to serve up, beyond me.

They used to do the best cherry and walnut scones packed with pieces of cherry and walnuts. Now seem to be machine rather than hand made with what little fruit & nuts are now used are blitzed to nothing, Almost no fruit visible. Shame.

Had a fabulous big breakfast in the upstairs room. Our food was served quickly considering it was a busy Sunday morning in the cafe. The sausages and bacon were good quality. Good value for money and friendly efficient service.

We've not been to Cromford for many years and it was nice to see this place open when we took our walk. We were originally planning to get some fish and chips in Cromford or Matlock but thought we'd have a breakfast for a change, although it doesn't look massive it as more than I could eat - some very nice sausages, much better quality than many, the usual accompaniments of hash browns, fried egg etc. all washed down with a nice Latte (plus a dog sausage for our dog). Definitely made a highlight to our walk and we've already said we'll come back and do the same again. A great place to visit, super service and a lovely breakfast.

Great location on the wharf of Cromford canal. An old wharf building converted into an equipped cafe/ coffee house serving breakfasts through to lunch. Been a few times and always had good food and beverages. Coffee is a great blend. Prices are reasonable and the place is warm in the depth of winter. Plenty of outside seating for the summer and dog friendly. Great selection of cakes, light bites and daily specials.

Extortionate price for cakes. The smallest shortcake I have ever seen for £3.25 which is the east value I have ever come across in 100's of coffee shop visits. Very poor choice as well but coffee just about ok.

Had a fantastic family get together on Sunday, 11th December. Steve and his team arranged a delicious buffet- hot and cold selection of tasty savouries - wraps and ciabetta with gorgeous fillings and toppings, quiche, toasty hassleback potatoes and moorish pigs in blankets. A wonderful...

We have been to this lovely little cafe beside the Cromford Canal several times now. It always seems to be quite busy but there is usually plenty of seating inside and outside and takeaway drinks are available. Had a seasonal special today, a Pigs in Blankets baguette which was really tasty and perfect for a chilly day and a deliciously naughty Black Forest Hot Chocolate! Great place to eat or drink while taking a stroll along the canal at any time of year.

Great location alongside the canal. A great spot to watch the local wildlife.

On a wet miserable day of visiting Cromford mill the cafe there was full so in need of lunch we visited the wharf. It was a lovely location even in the drizzle and dog friendly. The menu looked interesting if a tad pricey. My potato...

November 1st around 11 30 - My experience - lot of staff around - only one person serving - one couple in front of me in the Q - they asked for a tray - another staff member came to explain they couldn't take their purchases "over the water" - not very politely and lacking a "happy face" - the wait went on until this got sorted - it appeared to be a staff gathering (no one else in the cafe) - a non uniformed lady was clearly running things and was not quietly spoken - I eventually got served and sat at a table- then a "Walky Talky" - screeched into life and a LOUD inane staff conversation followed for everyone to hear - I turned round a number of times in the hope that the lady would realise the concern but to no avail - it just went on and on - did I enjoy the coffee and food ? Yes ! What a shame that some of the staff (the walky talky user in particular) were not able to conduct themselves with a little more consideration
