Wetherspoons', Metro Centre, Gateshead in Gateshead

A great, cheap and cheerful, good value breakfast, as a great break from some shopping in the Metro Centre. It is a big pub, so plenty of tables, including lots of booths which give a nice touch. Between us we had different breakfast muffins, including the bacon and egg, and the veggie sausage - both were great. The veggie sausages were really tasty and good quality - as good as the real thing! Using the app makes ordering really easy, and tea and coffee refills are free. So all in all, a great breakfast at a great price, in a nice setting.

We are fans of Wetherspoons and often pop in to our locals ones. This was our first visit to the Metro centre so decided to eat at the local Wetherspoons. As you would expect it is cheap and cheerful. Good selection of beers, could maybe do with more wine selections. We had a late lunch, it came out quickly, hot and we enjoyed our meals. We noticed it was one of the cleaner Wetherspoons we have visited and the staff very friendly and efficient. Would recommend for a cheap lunch/drink while shopping. Remember! This is a Wetherspoons, it's a budget pub so do t expect silver service 🤣 Overall a pleasent visit

Visited for lunch with the family, food was good service pleasant and quick. My grandson had a wee accident and spilled his juice over his plate. Quick as a flash, one of the staff was over to help us, brought cloths to clean up, and organised a replacement meal for him as "you cant have soggy nuggets" So friendly, and really helpful. She did not need to do this but it really made our day that it was all sorted. We didn't get her name, but she was a star! (Ps all thr other staff were nice as well!)

Honestly I would love to say I enjoyed my experience here but it was mediocre at best, staff was abrupt upon serving (slamming) drinks at our table… we both ordered the large breakfast, the food came out cold the mushrooms felt like they came out of the fridge the only thing that was actually Luke warm were the sausages… I would have happily asked them to pop it in the microwave for a couple of minutes if any of the staff were bothered to check back at our table or let alone look in my direction when trying to call them over… I know I’m not looking for five star service as it’s Wetherspoons but I’m also not looking for a meal that’s just come out of the fridge I would have just grabbed something from Iceland if that were the case

The obligatory trip to the Metrocentre as we were in the area and passing by. Being all touristy and all that jazz. Desperately needed a break and a drink after a long day out and a walk around the Centre. We didn't get one... The place was heaving, jammed. The Centre itself was very, very busy, it was a Saturday afternoon after all and so not entirely unexpected. Tables were few and far between and once people got one they weren't relinquishing them without a fight. Who could blame them? Not I. We ended up with soft drinks and standing around those awful tables that are waist high, for what ever reason. Our drinks were drained and we left, not feeling at all rested. We'd been on our feet longer after we left than before we entered. Was the food nice? Possibly, we didn't get the chance to find out.

Great value for money, but the table service is a bit slow. Overall, it can get busy really quickly, so plan to get there early.

Another canny meal was had here. We had a scampi dish and a ham and cheese panini. Not Michelin cooking choices, but what we fancied. They both arrived in the usual timely manner and were both tasty. My scampi being very nice. Most scampi tastes the same wherever you go to have it in a bar / restaurant, this time it just seemed a little tastier than normal, very nice. Drinks and 2 meals 22 quid, you cannot go wrong.

Was great food, fast service and good service. Cheap and cheerful and one of my favourite places to go for a cheap meal. Had all condiments that you may want or need. Staff were nice and friendly. Would definitely return.

Needed to get some Xmas shopping out the way so thought I’d get in and out before “people” arrived. Can’t believe spoons doesn’t open earlier than 9am was going to have breakfast and then zip round the shops. Seems strange as there was plenty people planning on doing the same.

Absolutely disgusting service, ordered online, got our drinks waited over half hour. Everyone else getting their food so I went and asked. They checked my phone for confirmation stating they hadn’t received the breakfast order but then backtracked, it was on their screen. Food came, barely warm no eggs, apparently notices within the pub but definitely nothing online. No cutlery when food received, had to ask and then no butter with our toast. I was under the impression that you always had to asked if everything okay once food served, well definitely not asked us today. Angry doesn’t even cut it, ignorant staff and definitely not friendly. Absolutely shocking, had 18th balloons with us from granddaughters birthday meal at local restaurant, ordered and paid for drinks but staff wouldn't let 18 year old granddaughter drink hers because she had no id with her. Staff attitudes shocking, Stella lager was rank, toilets not very clean, no paper or roll jammed in 3 of them, will never be back here again

10 Terrible might be the word I’d use to describe our lunch yesterday 27th August.. 5 of us went at 1pm it was really busy.. I asked for a Sunday lunch to be told there was none left at 1 pm “lunch”time.. I settled for halloumi fries. So after not too long the food arrived. My halloumi fries had turned into loaded fries. I questioned this and the very disgruntled waitress brought the bill which meant nothing other than the person taking the order clearly didn’t hear what I’d asked for.. They were very near same price but at no point did they say sorry or offer to change them… To add insult to injury 2 people came and asked was everything ok !!! Well no it wasn’t so why ask.. We often use weatherspoons when we go anywhere as we normally have no problem.. This in my opinion is the worst we have been to and will not be returning…. The other 4 people were not happy with their food either. There was very little cheese on the cheesy chips and chips were soggy..The wings seemed to be the only descent thing we got…

My two granddaughters like their Mc Donald’s so after shopping we went there for lunch. The prices seem to be creeping upwards as do all restaurants, shops etc. chicken nugget meal for the youngest, a chicken and bacon wrap the eldest and a double burger for me as my one odd yearly McDs. Utilising the app, as opposed to queuing meant food was brought to the table much quicker which was a plus.

I am normally a great fan of wetherspoons. But just had a mixed grill which was dry and burnt to within a millimetre of its existence. I have given 3 stars as we had fudge cake and ice cream and that was superb. The pub itself looks a little tired but it's ok and not noisy, the staff seem to be quite attentive cleaning tables etc. But I wouldn't go out of my way for it.

The restaurant was really busy and the staff run ragged, however they were still polite and friendly. I had The BBQ chicken melt with jacket potato and my wife had Cajun wrap with salad. Both meals were fine and came quite quickly considering the restaurant was full to bursting. Good value meals and drinks.

Didn't have 3 things we wanted and wouldn't swap bacon for sausage on the breakfast. Will not be returning. Oh and Elly on the bar could do with getting some manners.

Popped in for a drink while shopping, decent pint but staff seem rough and unprofessional, someone who I only presumed to be a manager of some sort came out of the kitchen shouting for the whole place to hear, “is anyone going to help me on the floor or just f****** stand around” and the lady behind the bar followed her into the kitchen continuing the argument sweating at each other very loudly. Fairly embarrassing, should handle yourselves better.

Food would have been good if I didn’t have to listen to the manager speak to her staff in such an impolite way multiple times… there’s a way to speak to people and that was not it.

Refused breakfast was offered all day brunch for same price. The only thing warm was the chips. Served on cold plates.very poor.

Wary very wary . General Wetherspoon gives you an ok meal at ok cheap price , I’ve eaten out at several restaurant since COVID-19 lock down allowed , staff have masks on tables are decent distance and due to small amounts of clients food has been excellent everywhere I have eaten.....Wetherspoons Metro centre Failed on all counts Staff No masks ,Wrong drink orders3 simple cooked steaks with jacket potatoes, 2 under cooked and tough as shoe leather , Staff and customers allowed to walk freely around and consistently brushing past our table ,Will not be visiting the Metro Centre Wetherspoon again until normality resumes ..

It’s not the complaint it’s how you deal with it and I’ve got to compliment the staff and duty manager for handling it in a very professional way. 100% satisfied. Fast food and great prices but burgers served cold not good - but it’s cheap and cheerful and will be back. Well done - only wish I’d asked for a name.

Great atmosphere, plenty of seats available even though it was Saturday. Breakfast weap delivered to our table within a few minutes of ordering. Staff are very attentive.

My friend and I took his disabled mother for Sunday lunch.we all opted for fish and chips which I think was £9.99 each mmm beautiful.i am quite a picky eater and hate it if you have a Sunday lunch and they use processed meats and frozen veg and yorkies etc however fancied a change and had the fish and chips the fish was big ,succulent and the batter was so light and airy ,peas were perfect as well.You had the choice to have bread and butter which I didn’t but the other 2 diners did.Was served with a nice chunk of lemon.I am making my mouth water now at the thoughts of it .We ended up having a small desert each which was a brownie and ice cream ,also perfect ,small size portion and I think the price was about£1.60 but that portion was just the right size to round your lunch off with as any bigger and it may have been too much for some people as it’s very sweet.Disabled toilets were nice and clean,staff friendly and helpful ,try it you won’t be dissapointed

Nice wetherspoons cosy and warm welcome, nice staff, smaller menu and drinks selection than other wetherspoons. The mark up in price was around 20% which let down the restaurant.

We visited the pub on a day trip to the metro centre, it was very busy, it was a Tuesday, we decided to sit upstairs where it was quiet. Plenty of comfortable seating on both levels. Order food at the bar, reasonable prices, the usual weatherspoons menu. Pleasant staff. Well worth a visit. Refillable tea and coffee and only £1.50 a cup. A decent coffee too.

The service was very quick, it was a very nice pub, and very nice food. They were very quick at serving.

No obvious queuing system , accused of pushing in even though the people in front said it was ok for me to served . Blonde barmaid and friend accused me of being nasty and refused to serve me. Then ignored so we left .

I ordered a grilled chicken burger and chips, the chicken was days old and like rubber and the chips were uncooked, the chef must have very low standards

Just average, the prices are great, not great options for vegans though, I had the vegan pizza would be better with a cheese alternative on it, wouldn’t get it again

Perfect place to leave the partners as us ladies shop. Staff are very friendly. Food is like any other wetherspoons. Toilets weren't very clean, one didn't even flush!

I visited yesterday for late lunch and felt as though I was being a nuisance. I ordered our food at the bar and the man was completely indifferent to the point of being rude. I had to pay separately for the meals and asked for a receipt but before I could ask for a receipt for the second order he had gone off cleaning shelves. I tried to get his attention only to be met with a tut and a sigh as if I was the biggest inconvenience around. His attitude is appalling and I wouldn’t go here again. I have worked in this type of industry and know it can be hard but a smile goes a long way.

Ate here on a busy Metro Centre Sunday. We each ordered a mixed grill. Limp steak, fatty lamb and an anaemic pork steak. Sausage was good though.

My meal was the smallest portion ever tonight, I now wish I had took it back. I think they must of had a shortage of noodles. Bar staff unhappy people

We hadn't been to the metro center for a number of years but what a transformation it has had. It is spacious, clean, loads more shops, but we had our lunch in weatherspoons and the meal was lovely, it was hot, we didn't have to wait long, the staff are welcoming and helpful, we shall call again.

I visited Wetherspoons in the Blue Mall of the Metro Centre yesterday and whilst the food we had was okay and relatively cheap, the portion size and justification for the portion size is ridiculous (I couldn’t confirm the actual costs because I wasn’t handed a receipt despite paying on my credit card).

This used to be a nice restaurant. Me and my partner came today and the staff were miserable. We ordered starters and my partner’s came out first and mine never came until the meal came out. Very slow service. My partner asked for rare steak and this was burnt on one side and barely rare on the other. The mushroom was black and like cardboard. I asked them to do another steak for my partner and they did. It was better but not the best. Overall the service was crap and the food was just a shambles I’ll not be coming here anymore. Waste of money. The place also needs refurbished it looks so dull and old.

Always a good menu and value for money, Bar is clean. However, it could do with being updates as the furniture is looking a little tired.

If you want to sit at a sticky table while eating cheap microwave meals and listen to the chavs of Gateshead talk about how drunk they got at the weekend then this is the place for you.

Called in t.night for drink & met by blond bar staff who looked like she hated her job... asked Wot flavoured gins they had & was told "they are over there... which one do you want " ... not what I expected ... no smile & help at all... obviously this girl is not happy at her job .... so maybe needs to re think her career .....

You always know what you are getting with a Wetherspoon breakfast. Cheap and cheerful. No complaints here at all. Cheery staff, quick service. Clean pub.

We have visited here a few times when in the metro centre and the food has always been fine. It’s convenient and well placed. The kids have always found something to eat (and they can be quite fussy!) It’s not cordon bleu cuisine, but it is quite tasty and doesn’t break the bank!

I've only visited Wetherspoons a few times (the one in Carlisle) and I've had very good experiences and rather poor experiences. So I decided to try the Wetherspoons in the Metro Centre for some food before catching the train home yesterday. I took advantage of the meal + drink deal and ordered a whiskey & coke plus a ham & mushroom pizza for £9.20. When the pizza arrived I could tell straight away that it was made with fresh ingredients. Fresh mushrooms, ham and rocket salad. Absolutely fantastic. I told the waiter afterwards that I was a bit anxious about ordering food after some dismal experiences with fish & chips in Carlisle, but the pizza I'd just enjoyed was one of the nicest I'd ever eaten. Will definitely be back. Maybe the kitchen staff from Carlisle Wetherspoons could visit you for some tips. Awesome - thanks guys.

I had family visiting from the south, so took them for a meal. good menu and reasonable prices. service was fine also had dietary variations available.

Now I am not one for writing bad reviews. And love my food and I am not a fussy eater. But felt I had to review the meals we had hear. Sunday 5th May 2019. It wasn't particularly busy at the metro centre Bank Holiday Sunday the week after the Easter Weekend. In fact we were surprised how quiet it was like a weekday evening. early afternoon we decided to stop at Wetherspoons for a spot of lunch( been to a number of Wetherspoons across the region . ( reasonably priced food, regular portion sizes nothing startling but usually good value for money ) we found a table easy enough plenty free all in need of cleaning. found menu and looked through it. no specials available so opted for burgers ( had them previously in other Wetherspoons and usually very good. ) No burgers were available at all. of any kind we were told, then added we could have a chicken burger. So we opted for that three chicken burger meals and a kids meal. The guy arrived to clean the tables and cleaned the tables round us but not ours. The food arrived and it was appalling a chicken burger and fries. regular sized portion on two plates the third had less on it than the kids portion we had ordered. radioactive plates and dried up just warm chips the salad sat on a hot plate consisted of lettus two slices of cucumber and one slice of tomato all warm. and inedible. The chicken burger was like nothing ive ever witnessed served up in public in my life. A lightly toasted brioche bun white but crunchy . so crunchy on one side Infact it snapped. a grey dried up chicken piece looked like someone had a halved a chicken breast steak and fried it in a dirty pan. It still had little black bits on it I hoped might be cracked black pepper but no they definitely were the remnants of the pan it was cooked in ( hadn't been grilled, no grill marks or browning or colour of any kind on it.) some more warm lettus and my second slice of tomato . Not wanting to put kids off there meals and the fact this with drinks had cost us all around £10 each I tried to perceiver. Putting mayonnaise on it . To no avail it was inedible. A family of four sitting at the table next to us about to order . Witnessed it and said " I would complain" my husband explained the farce we had ordering anything in the first place and didn't seem to think it was worth it . I had been completely put off having any lunch at all by this time. the guy cleaning the tables who heard the entire thing just made himself scarce. Not saying anything. The family next to us opted to not chance it and left. shortly followed by us. Not one of the four of us finishing our lunch and me not eating mine. This was early afternoon. And I am of the same opinion of the husband on the table next to us . Because this Wetherspoons is located in metro centre they can dish up sub standard meals at slightly over inflated prices due to the fact its in the metro centre and tired shoppers will just put up with it. I have never been served or seen served a meal in public the likes of this. And would advise anyone there's better places to waste £40 on something eatable.

Just opened and long queue at till. Staff still checking condiments. Breakfast served quickly but obvious fried eggs cooked in advance as hardened yolk. Staff really pleasant

My eyes were greedier than my stomach for the large full English. Everything well cooked and plentiful. We used the app to order which was very convinient. Very good value for money

I’m a regular to Wetherspoons across the country and this is the only one I’ve came across that’s more expensive. For the deli deals with an alcoholic drink it’s £3 more than any other Wetherspoons, it’s not as if you get more food to make up for the cost. Also the chips were like warm at best. Ridiculous hike in price.

Went in for a quiet drink with my partner today after a busy day shopping,we are staying near the metro centre for 2 nights for his birthday. Anyway sitting in this lovely pub and being stared at by some of the local thugs,making inappropriate comments leering,swearing at us and trying to cause a fight between the 6 of them and the 2 of us was just what we didn't need to end our lovely day! The drinks we had were lovely but, seriously spoiled by the local louts sitting getting drunker and drunker by the minute lowering the tone of the area never mind the bar! Won't be visiting again I'm afraid thanks to folks like these.

What a lovely meal that double skinny burger and sides of salad, peas and roasted veg was! The taste was absolutely beautiful. Highly recommended if you’re trying to be good but want a massive meal that feels like you’re being naughty.

Always get a good breakfast here and very quick service. I can’t say it’s the best breakfast I have ever had but for the money it’s served fast and is good value.

Popped in to get a drink after shopping while we waited for out bus and ordered 2 drinks. That was all. Ordered them on the table service app and 15 minutes later still nothing. I checked we had out the right table on and all was fine. we could see the bar from our seats and it was quiet. there were 2 staff members just standing talking and there didn't seem to be any other staff around. My partner went to ask where the drinks were and got told they were very busy but we will get them soon. we sat for another 15 mins watching the staff just stand around talking until finally someone made our drinks. might as well have gone to the bar and bought them there. when he brought them over there was no apology for the wait at all. 30min wait for 2 drinks is ridiculous. won't be back

Always enjoy going to a Wetherspoons, great choice of food, cheap drinks and fast service. Never disappointed.

its a weatherspoons, what do you expect, cheap pub food, well thats exactly what you get. we called in for breakfast just to see whats its like and got a decidedly average breakfast, egg, sausage, hasn, toms, beans, toast for about 4.45 which again is average in price
