Wetherspoons in Bedford

Two of us went to The Pilgrim's Progress late afternoon/early evening. One of us was vegan, but we both chose from the vegan menu - and why not?! The reason why not quickly became clear... Both of us ordered the "Beyond Burger"...and it was certainly "beyond" something - belief in this case, and not in a good way... One of us had it as it came, and the other asked for it without the bun. Before anyone says anything, the "bun" is a fairly pathetic and undeniably tiny brioche roll. Presumably brioche is cheaper than a proper bun, which is no doubt why Wetherspoons use them...but there should be a choice. The only saving grace there was that it may have been crap, but at least there wasn't much of it...which is ridiculous in itself. Anyway..."no bun" seemed to become translated into "no bun and no salad"...oh, and I think that whoever the salad kleptomaniac was had also stolen half the chips off of both plates. It was a very large plate, with a very, very, small meal on it. I'm not even sure that either of them would even have met the Trading Standards requirement to have been sold as a child's meal! Did I mention the burgers? About the size of a large tiddly-wink each, if tiddly winks were made from cardboard... and barely thicker. There was no saving this "meal". When called over a staff member did apologise, and bring a tiny amount of salad and a few more chips...and at least had the good grace to appear to be embarrassed at what his employer was asking him to provide customers with...but his (poor) "solution" just emphasised how badly Wetherspoons had failed. I've included a photograph (taken quite close up or you might have struggled to see what was presented!) of the bunless, saladless, and fairly chipless "meal".. Before that I've included an actual Wetherspoons picture of a non-vegan burger meal, to allow some comparison, even without a bun. Wetherspoons - you did a crap job.

Enjoyed my jacket potatoes tuna and salad, including a cup of tea Well recommend. Fair prices. Thanks all chef were on duty today. All staff are helpful and polite .

I always say this is a great go to pub, for food and drink at great prices, however my last couple of visits that included food wasn’t quite as good, the food was not as good? What’s changed guys?, I had the madras curry yesterday, the naan was overdone, popadums under done, and the rice and curry not quite on it, has something changed in last couple of months? I’ve always thought that this particular pub was excellent for food. So come on get back to being great.

I just wanted to ask why the majority of bar staff are so rude and miserable? You order bucket of sparkling wine, she brings to table and plonks on table with no comment like “enjoy” or “thank you”, Look on trip advisor and compare the excellent marks to the poor marks and no difference. Clearly management at this establishment are unmotivated that rubes off on staff team. Horrible experience with rude staff.

Attended with my Children for Dinner As we Have A Meal out together on the anniversary of their fathers passing And I can not praise enough how good the food was, The place was very busy but our food came Very Hot and So Beautiful. Will Definitely Be Back. Thank You

Returned here after a while to see if it had improved after making a number of complaints about catering staff practices to jd Witherspoon head quarters to find not much change having been in the trade for many years to be served a mixed grill with uncooked mushroom tomato that was still fridge cold in the middle and most of the rest was lukewarm at best when we practice a minimum of 76degrees on our food leaving the kitchen you may be busy but that is no excuse for pore quality

Very disappointing experience, went out for Boxing Day drinks/food with a group of girl friends. It was pretty empty, staff (particularly management) were very rude to us as costumers. My group are all newly 18 so excited to go out for drinks together for the first time, management definitely used this against us- confiscating drinks we had payed for, refusing to serve our table despite us showing valid ID. One person in our group unfortunately only had a photo of her ID because her license had been taken as she’d just passed her driving test the week prior, however she doesn’t drink anyway and just ordered a J2O with her food! Even after explaining this management treated us appallingly, threatening to pull up CCTV, telling my friend they would ask her to leave, not allowing any of us to order drinks (even those who had valid ID), refunding us whenever we ordered which will now take time to be processed (I still haven’t had that money back) and rushing us out at 9pm with no manners. We then left and went to a much more friendly over 18s bar and were served and ID checked with no issues and treated like actual adults. Staff definitely wouldn’t have spoken to us or behaved like that if we were an older group of people, please learn to treat younger customers with some respect- we are adults too.

So we ordered drinks 2 woo woo cocktails and a beer getting down the cocktails we noticed black particles in the ice knowing we had been drinking this decided to show a member of staff who said he had no idea what it was then he walked away thought he was going to get another 1 for us no he came bk and said what are you waiting for which i replied can I speak to the manager who also said he had o idea what it was and done nothing about it

Staff were friendly. Two meals with drinks served quickly & came to about £20. Good choice of well kept real ales. Excellent value. I shall be going back soon.

Busy & quite noisy for early evening wednesday. Ordered via app and service was prompt & good. Fish 'n' Chips good, Steak good & well cooked.

Visited last week and had the worst customer service experience so far! The servers really need to be trained on managing their time better and be nice to customers

Great food and drink , spoled by sill queueing at bar. Chicken tikka marsala is superb. Drink and food prices great. Use the App to avoid silly queue. Annoying to be TOLD to queue then watch people get served instantly by going directly to the bar.

Literally been going here every weekday for the past 4/5 months and bought breakfast with a hot chocolate each and every morning. Today I went and unfortunately did not reach in time for my usual breakfast order (busy work morning!) - but had already paid 2 hours parking. 1 hour into my stay, a SWEATY, rude bar team member stormed up to my table blurting ‘are you gonna order anything?!”. I’d never seen him in my life, probably new. He then went on to say several other things with a bad attitude which immediately got my back up. I went downstairs to complain to a lady who’d seen me atleast 80% of the times I’d gone there in the past, thinking she’d allow me for the ONE TIME ID NOT ORDERED FOOD. No help. No such thing as being a regular here. I appreciate you need to make business, but I’m clearly supportive as I’ve spent over £200 during the last 4/5 months (yes - I checked my Monzo!). Horrible bar staff! Will never go again. Also the tables are ALWAYS dirty but I overlooked this! The kitchen staff, however, are lovely. Especially the elder blonde woman with short hair and glasses!

The food is never that long to wait for, the service is ok, the food is always hot and the drinks are always quick overall I’m quite satisfied I would go there more and more. Prices need to stay how they are because it suits each meal served! That’s how customers are created from pilgrims from the pricing it’s all accurate and not overpriced! Happy girl 😊

Went for drinks and dinner after work. Portions of food were tiny. The condiments table was full of empty broken sauce bottles. Nadine the waitress was rude as she has been the last 3 times

Food okayish, service abysmal. Ordered on the Wetherspoon app. Ordered wine with ice and coke no ice and a straw. Coke came with ice no straw. Wine came wit no ice. There were 6 in the party, 3 children and 3 adults. All in a good mood as just attended Winter Wonderland. Childrens' meals came with one set of cutlery. Adults meals came with no cutlery. I asked the waitress for the rest of the cutlery. Waitress came back and dumped the cutlery wrapped in one serviet on the table. We then had to ask for additional serviettes. When thes arrived these then we replaced more politely on the table in contrast to the cutlery. Service at this Wetherspoon was never good but this time it was appallingly poor. What is wrong there, management poor?? Unhappy staff?? Will not visit Pilgrims Progress again.

Happily surprised doesn't quite cut it! For the budget price of £62 for a Friday night, I wasn't holding out for anything special, however, from the polite and helpful receptionist who checked us in, to the spotlessly clean, quiet, comfortable room and en-suite and finally, the respectable 11am checkout time, everything was as good as a premium hotel chain. In fact, I have paid far more to stay in far shabbier rooms. Clean, comfortable, air con, a piping hot shower and surprisingly well sound proofed considering our room overlooked a busy road outside, which, conveniently, was directly opposite a multi storey car park, which cost £11 from around 17:30 on the Friday, to 11:00am on the Saturday. If you are looking for a good, cheap, overnight stay, with great access to Bedford Town centre, then look no further. In fact, the only downside, was the drunken octopus in the bathroom l, that looked like it fancied a fight! (See pics)

Terrible experience! Visited with a group of friends. We all went to the bar, I was the last in my group to be served and I was refused service. The lady at the bar falsely accused me of being drunk which I definitely was not. I then found myself surrounded by the door staff and was asked to leave. They didn’t want to listen to reason, I felt discriminated against and the situation was very unjust. I would recommend avoiding this place to spare others from this horrible experience.

We had just finished eating at 9pm and were told we had to leave as 1 of our party was 17 and according to the manager it is the law that under 18s cannot be in the pub after 9pm. This is not the case legally so when questioned it changed to local policy to keep their license.. Will not be back in a hurry due to the way they treated my group of 5, that's 5 families that now will not be going back there. If you want a quiet meal it is not going to happen when the staff dont want you in there

Popped in just for food with wife and friends. Ordered at bar, when meals arrived two were very lukewarm and two weren’t what we ordered. Cue stroppy apparent senior member of staff, very rude thinking cos we are old we are dozy. Easy to dispel that myth, sharp as they come we are. So two of us eating our already cool food (deffo already cooked and hanging about because it came inside minutes of the order) and two waiting for what we actually ordered (we got order repeated to us by barman when made and it was fine so clearly kitchen problem). Half way through two meals we had rude one returns waving a receipt and demands £1.30 extra. Once more she is interrupting the two who were eating their already cold food. No apology for fact we were all having to eat at different times due to their incompetence. I gave her £1.40… she didn’t bring the 10p change lol. Police were in there earlier and I did wonder if she’d upset someone else. Demeanour was appalling in my honest opinion. Perhaps company need to consider a managerial course. By the time we left the night staff had come on and happily were much more friendly and cheery.

The Pilgrims Progress pub is Bedford town centre. Very close to the shops and bus station and the main railway station is a short walk away. I am not aware of any parking facilities however there is a multi-storey car park across the road.If you have ever been to a Wetherspoons pub you will know what to expect. When I visited the pub was clean and tidy as were the toilets.

Upon arrival I was left with a gift of durex lubrication from the previous guests. I didn't complain until I was left with a smoking fine for 100 pounds for smoking out the window. When I called to complain about this ridiculous bill they said that they had a very strict smoking policy. I response I said I have a very strict lubrication policy! Never again for me!

DO NOT STAY HERE UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. PEE STAINED MATRESSES THAT THEY HAD TRIED TO COVER WITH A DUVET THAT WAS THEN COVERED WITH A SHEET, SOFA BEDS THAT COLLAPSE. AND WHEN WE ASKED IF OUR ROOM COULD BE CHANGED WE WERE TOLD WE CAN BUT HAVE TO PAY A FEE EQUIVALENT TO ANOTHER NIGHTS STAY. MANAGEMENT JUST IGNORED OUR COMPLAINT AND TOLD US TO EMAIL IN ON MONDAY. WE ENEDED UP CHECKING OUT A DAY EARLY BUT WERE TOLD OUR MONEY WOULDNT BE REFUNDED.The pull out bed kept collapsing so 2 of the guests had to sleep on the chair. We were charged £69 per night for a room that is not upto standard. I have pics, It seems that what we were promised will not be upheald. Asking us to send an email with our complaint and then point plank refusing to refund our money for the night we didn't stay is a joke.The poor receptionist had tried to get a hold of management numerous times during the day and was completely ignored. The only thing we were offered were some extra blankets and pillows, a clean mattress was put on and then covered with a mattress topper that had burns in it, honestly I couldn't make it up, then the housekeeping staff tried to imply that we were smoking in the room, (im a non smoker) and then changed it to say she was just informing me there is a fine if found smoking (one of the guests with us does smoke and she had seen the tobacco on the table), clearly this was because i had complained about the mattress and the state of the room just then she had found Someone's brush full of hair under the sofa bed (a previous guests) and quickly threw it outside the room which makes me wonder if it was actually cleaned. The receptionist that was in training and left by herself also had agreed with my comment that if I am being charged the same price as the Ramada or queens then a certain standard is expected to be upheld.Im shocked an appalled by the service we recieved. Absolutely ruined my friends birthday weekend to the point they wanted to just leave and has caused nothing but arguments between us. Never again what a disgrace.

Wanted to meet someone and eat, but rumors was that entrance staff is more involved into harassing people and politics than food, it was true in my case too. Not recomended.

Upon arriving at the restaurant the lady at the door asked about track and trace and I showed her that I did it on my phone, she then asked my partner to do it as well and I said I already put on mine that there was two of us. She said all members of the group had to do it now which isn't true because I work at a restaurant and it is only 1 member from the group that has to complete it. When I tried to tell her this she was really rude and kept talking over me and raising her voice when I was just querying it.

The service was exceptional, one of the waiters named Lewis was very kind to my table and he helped us if we had any questions, and he was very passionate about his job

We were told that within a month they would only be taking orders from the app and that there wouldn't be table service with cash or cards. We had to sit near the bar and whilst there lots of people coming to the entrance were turned away being told that table service would be about an hour's wait. I couldn't believe this, it wouldn't take a lot to serve at tables. I don't see the problem. I think this public house will lose a lot of customers and therefore a lot of money.

Im usually a fan of weatherspoons but was disappointed with my lunch here. I had a bacon and cheese panini, was literally one piece of half cooked bacon in alot of bread.

Good value and better than expected The hotel is above the Wetherspoons and if I’m being honest I was not Expecting much, it was however very good value we paid 44 pounds for a room which given the location was very reasonable, parking is a bit of a problem but there is a 24 hour car park opposite Fairly good choice of restaurants around the area and if push comes to shows Wetherspoons is downstairs we had. Few pints in there after going out for a mealBack to the hotel it was very clean and we were happy with our one night stay

Went for breakfast there with friends. Good choice on menu. It was quite quiet, weekday morning, and didn't have to queue at the bar to order. The service was quick and the food was nice. I appreciated the choice of brown or white bread. Got a nice glass of orange juice, too. Good value for money and a good start to the day. Good choice for brunch, lunch and dinner, too. We also went there for an evening meal. It does seem popular and can get busy in the evening. Like others, we ordered via the app to avoid queuing at the bar as the pub seemed full. The food and drinks came quickly. For someone who's very hungry, the portion might not be enough but it was nice.There is an upstairs area with limited seating.

A large JDW, fairly busy with a mixed clientele. Staff were good, friendly and served promptly. Usual good choice of drinks, and the 3 for £10 menu was served quickly, well cooked abd great value for money.

The Pilgrims Progresst has a great bar scene in what was originally a furniture store! As you would expect from the Weatherspoon’s brand is has excellent bar staff with very reasonably priced drinks. An excellent menu with food and drink packaged offers – super beef chilli con carne for less than £6. The Pilgrims Progress also offers accommodation. Recommended.

This is a reasonable pub offering the standard good well priced food and drink you would expect.There was an excellent range of well-kept real ales and a good gin selection.The pub was clean and we could not complain as the staff were friendly and helpful.

We live roughly equidistant from 6 Wetherspoons, and visit the Pilgrim's often. Nice pub, friendly and professional staff, but;They constantly run out of several food and drink items. Busy pub? Okay, but they all are, but the others do not suffer this issue on such a regular basis. You can't sell what you ain't got!Tonight the range of non/low alcoholic beers is halved. We actually called in for fresh fruit and ice cream plus Heineken 0.0, both out of stock. The thing is that we were not surprised. More fool me for coming back.

A very large wetherspoon named after the book by Bunyan. Typical spoons with good selection of beers at reasonable prices. It is also a hotel.

Visited as part of our annual Wetherspoons weekend... this was a nice one with pleasant rooms although not the absolute best we’ve stayed in!! Great staff and a nice location near the river.

Only popped in for lunch having been very impressed previously. Staff overstretched and not very helpful as I am gluten free. My steak medium was awful very dry and tough. My husband's trio of chicken was fine. Nothing shown as g/f now on the menus just vegan or vegetarian! Certainly wouldn't recommend or return.

The salad wasn't fresh, it was quite tragic. Hardly anything for the money, and the service is irritatingly American. Every single time a staff member serves something, even a tragic salad, they instruct you to 'enjoy'. This is presumably a corporate comment they are told to say, and it's very annoying. The real ale selection was poor, as most options had sold out, which is a reflection on the management. I'll take my business elsewhere in future.

Last 2 visits to this venue have been very disappointing on food.What I originally ordered food and drink they did not have. The sirloin steak was full of grissle and not cooked as I asked. The breakfast sandwich I had on another visit was cold. It is advertised as having 3 rashers of bacon only got 2 and 1/2. I know they don't normally have sound on the telly but when the England rugby was on it took several attempts to get anywhere and actually get some sound on. Very poor customer service that day

Very cold and draughty. Not a pleasant place to spend an hour or two. Whenever I order a guest ale from the Wetherspoons app it seems to have run out. Microwaved curries not very nice, and it should be stated on the menu that they are microwaved, because it's not entirely open and honest. Plenty of dropouts can be found in this pub, and that's not the fault of the pub, but it does drag the atmosphere down. There are plenty of wonderful pubs in Bedford that are much nicer (and much warmer) than this place. On the plus side, it's cheap and the steak is nice, and the beer selection is good (when it's available). If Spoons stops supplying European beer abd wine, I'll stop going, as I don't approve of business people meddling in politics and taking choice away from their own paying customers.

Ordered via the app which is quick and easy. Ordered our drinks and main meal which arrived within 10 minutes. Our chicken and beef burgers were fine, doubled up of course. Staff friendly, checked that we were happy with our meals. No problems.

Stopped by simply for a quick sit down and a soda water with lime cordial. Quick service at the bar despite it being a fairly busy lunchtime. Good atmosphere, the food looked good - especially the burgers which seemed very popular - and all the usual draught beers available as you’d expect from a Wetherspoon. Standard experience, you know what you’re getting from a J.D.

My mum drank in pilgrims progress(witherspoons) in Bedford for 10 years, she passed recently and I asked if we could hold a wake there( being she was a long time regular) the managers just laughed and stated” we do not serve sandwiches in this establishment “ then continued to say how much they loved her and would attend funeral, this was not well received by myself. We found alternative venue and was very happy with it . However, the managers decided not to allow staff to attend funeral at all. This is not a friendly family place, there are many lovely places in Bedford who would gladly welcome family’s and I would recommend the Ship on st cuthberts st to be a better option all round.

A very big town centre pub. Usual Wetherspoons menu so average food but good prices. Friendly staff and quite cheap drinks. Decor nice small beer garden at the back. Worth a quick drink good place to meet friends

Enjoyed our meal and drinks on this busy sunny Saturday Bank holiday.Using the Weatherspoon app, I ordered the drinks ( 2 x Pints of Fosters) and the food ( Nachos , British Chicken Wings , Spicy Coated King Prawns & Ultimate Burger ) to our table.Portions were huge even the starters ones. Very prompt service .

Had dinner and breakfast here. Yes it's cheap and cheerful but the food was hot, tasty and there was plenty of it. Staff were cheerful, pleasant, attentive. It was packed for dinner but we didn't wait long for the food to arrive. Not many customers for breakfast, food still good. Don't go there expecting the world, Weatherspoons is similar in most places that's the reason their customers keep going back. They do cheap beer and food and in my opinion they do it well.

This was a cheap curry night and we had a good curry and drink for less than £9. Not far from Greyfriars car park (free in the evening). I liked the atmosphere and quick service.

Had lunch here all ok for what you pay staff were friendly and service was good. Did not have to wait to long for food.

We came to stay for the night and it was a great stay. The room was so clean and the bathroom and everything you need was here. Toiletries 2 bottles of water one still one sparkling and decaf coffee as well as tea and other coffee cheers guys. We ate our meal here and the staff were friendly and helpful and it was a pleasure to sit and have a few drinks as we only had to go upstairs. The only problem was no parking but the multi story was so close it didn't really matter. Breakfast was good as we had a good sleep in the huge bed in the good bedroom. Would stay again.

One of the better Wetherspoons pubs I've been to.Clean, spacious, food is always good. Drinks are dispatched quickly and poured well.The garden is a concrete jungle as most are but all in all it's nice.Toilets always clean.5 mins walk from the river.The Wetherspoon hotel upstairs is very nice also. Reasonable prices, nice rooms. All good!

Wetherspoons' meals are OK and reasonably priced. I know I'll always find something to suit me any time I go in, and find an interesting beer to wash it down, but, while the meals are formulaic, what makes the experience better in one than another is the staff. The "Pilgrim's" staff were all great yesterday. Bar staff who knew who ought to be served next, and then served efficiently. That's a mark of good training, and well chosen staff.The staff who served our food were great, too, and the table was clean when we arrived. Too many tables elsewhere have sticky glass rings, left after careless cleaning.Lose the sticky menus, though, guys, (but I do know that's mainly down to sloppy patrons)...

It always seems to be busy here but it’s not surprising given the central location at the end of the high street. There’s plenty of seating across the ground floor, with normal tables, booths and high tables near the bar area. There’s a small upstairs section which also leads out to a terrace which is a lovely sun trap in the summer. A small garden area on the ground floor is also present.In true Wetherspoons style food is served quickly and of the same quality you’d expect. The full stocked bar copes well, even during the busiest of evenings and there’s usually a good vibe. The large toilets are always clean. There’s also a hotel upstairs here which is decent. There’s plenty of other pubs nearby but this remains a good choice in the town.

Agreed to meet up with family for a drink after shopping,ordered drinks online,pretty slow service but the pub was busy, staff friendly and helpful.

We have enjoyed food at Wetherspoons in many towns and cities and they are always good value for money. The premises themselves are always interesting and I like looking at the old photographs. As usual, the food was great.

Should never have closed the other Wetherspoon on the high street. Struggle to get a seat anytime on any day! Never ever staff, bar management a joke. Yes its cheap but the service is poor. Food is also hit and miss with sometimes things not on the menu and they can even screw up the humble jacket potato.

Love this place the food is excellent value for money, served hot and fast!Free pint with my 10oz gammon and chips and it was very good.The lads always have food and drink and it doesn’t cost a lot.Well done to weatherspoons keep up the good work

Great staff, great service, cracking peas. I am a pea connoisseur. Great peas every time. Will be back for more peas.

Sausages quite nice, presentation 'thrown on the plate', mash stodgy, peas 'tired', gravy tasty, but not enough, so the meal is quite dry. Service is still below par, with staff twice asking if everything is ok, but walking away before I could respond. The staff here don't take any time to interact with clients, and prefer to laugh and chat among themselves, which is not very professional, and not what they're paid to do. I believe this is a management issue, and doesn't appear to be improving. The entire experience at this Spoons is 'take it or leave it'. I might leave it.

Visited with my 18 year old son after we both finished work at 8pm, had a meal each and he had a cider, ordered on the APP and when it arrived the girl politely asked if he had ID , which he didnt, but he was obviously well over 16, then I asked the manager Nash or Tash, why he couldnt be drinking Cider as it was allowed by LAW, she then told me that it was a pub and NOT a restaurant. I went on the Gov.uk website out of interest more than anything else, and found that by law he was allowed to drink if he is over 16, if he had a meal with an adult from over 18. She then got the 2 doormen (these 2 were very professional unlike their manager) to throw us out. When I left I asked her name which she refused to give me as I want to esculate it. Are Wetherspoons above the law, Im not sure. She told me they have different rules, but surely they must stick to licensing laws and not make tgem up as they go along. I will contact their head office next week to get clarification on their licence laws being as they are different to the Government ones.

Using my Wetherspoon App , I did the order at the comfort of our table. Enjoyed our Sunday Lunch ( Lamb Shank and Tennessee Beef Burger ) and our drinks ( Hooch and Red Merlot ). Very price competitive. Staff are good.

Every time I visit the Pilgrim's Progress, I am taken aback by the high level of service displayed by the staff members. Each and every one of them speaks with a smile on their face and with perfect manners. They are all also incredibly efficient at their work, getting on with the jobs required in a timely manner. I cannot fault the team here, even when customers make their jobs more difficult than they need to be, the staff adapt and handle the situation with respect and professionalism. Keep up the good work!

5oz gammon, egg and chips not available, so I had to spend nearly twice as much for 10oz which was comprised of 2x 5oz gammon steaks! What a con. The drink finally turned up once my meal was complete, and the chips were soggy and not nice. One token mushroom, and some very tired looking peas and a tiny piece of tomato completed the culinery misery. I could not finish this meal, as it was so below par. I won't be eating here again. Best avoided.

Fast service, great value for money. Hard to get seats as it's so popular, but worth waiting for. Good pub grub

I regularly meet friends for a drink and for some repartee and we usually meet hear.The repartee is good but the service could be improved. There appears to be a degree of casual approach to customers and care needs to be taken to clear away empty glasses and plates as quickly as possible. Standards have recently been dropping. There appears to be a staff reunion each time we visit with laughing and boisterous behaviour.

This is a large Wetherspoons pub and hotel in Bedford town centre. It is located close to the river and the railway and bus stations in Bedford. This review is for the pub.The premises underwent a substantive amount of work a few years back to add the hotel rooms and renovate the bar area. The bar was moved. Ever since that happened, for whatever reason, the service when trying to buy a drink has become frustratingly slow. Because the owner of Wetherspoons Tim Martin has, in my opinion, poorly thought-out and objectionable gammon opinions I've made a point of largely avoiding Wetherspoons pubs since June 2016, but I had to visit there for a meeting with someone on a weekday evening in January 2019. The service here was every bit as slow I remembered it being in the past. Throw in the usual Wetherspoons clientele of red-faced pension age career drinkers and even the low prices are not enough to tempt me back in a hurry.

3 of us popped in at 6.30pm on Saturday before Christmas on the off chance. Found a table and ordered by phone. (very easy) . Drinks arrived very quickly and the food soon followed. Food very tasty and the service very good. Recommended. IS

Love this place, 4 of us went out last night and had a really good night, food again was very good, 10oz gammon and chips with free pint lol, big plate full of tasty foodDrank beer and double vodkas and only spent just over £30 You must try it out

JD Wetherspoon are a brilliant chain of restaurants. Our local one, The Pilgrims Progress is always clean, warm and a great place for a meal. Every single meal we have ever had here has been really good. The selection of foods and realistic prices is wonderful. I feel it gives a really good service to ordinary people who do not like to overspend in other places who charge very steep prices for food and drink. Staff are unfailingly courteous and meals come really quickly after ordering. Whenever we go away we seek out a J D Wetherspoon, as it make our stay away so much more affordable.

My son had chosen Pilgrims for a family birthday meal but we were told that we could not actually book, even though we were a large group. We were told to arrive and simply move furniture around to make eating together possible. We were also told that the information would be handed over so that the staff knew a large group would be coming. When we arrived we had to build a table of any size to eat at, surrounded by small numbers of people spread out around the restaurant, reading etc. It was a major DIY job and robbed the occasion of the joy it should have had. I really felt like giving up but it was too late to change our plans. Nobody offered to help us unfortunately and it was clear that nothing had been handed over. When we finally were able to sit down and order we experienced a couple of very good staff but we really could have done with some help earlier on. The food and drink was good and reasonably priced but I felt this was no way to treat paying customers and the no booking rule was a real own goal.

Popped in for quick bite to eat with my wife and granddaughter, again great food and reasonably priced always served fairly quickly and hot,

Stayed in the hotel on a business trip clean and tidy ,hotel staff very helpful would recommend,no parking at the hotel however 24hour parking across the road.

Had breakfast here ad one evening meal. Cheap and cheerful, good quality for what you get. Staff very attentive and friendly. Nice to have proper sauce bottles on the tables. Went with the steak which was cooked perfectly.

Food is always good, never disappoints. Staff are lovely as well. One of my favourites! Definitely a recommendation if you are looking for good cheap food!

Wetherspoons food varies a great deal. I have had some bad and some good meals. They are very cheap prices and I think normally good value for money. At the moment the Bedford Wetherspoons-The Pilgrims progress is worth going to. Just been to the Thursday curry night. I had beef madras. The pub was busy as normal on curry nights. The food was served quickly by a very friendly server. Food was hot and the curry very tasty. Plenty of food including rice, poppadoms and naan bread. A pint of beer included in price. £7-95 a bargain. Great, well worth the money.

This is an average spoons good value for money the only difference is the open plan kitchen a first spoons I've seen this.

The Pilgrims Progress has nothing bad about it but it's not remarkable in anyway other then range and price of drinks. Not a must visit by any means unless you are looking for a cheap drink or their is a large group of you as the pub is quite big.

We previously visited for lunch which was most disappointing, lunch was almost cold. Plates were cold ! Consequently refrained from visiting for a while.Couple of friends and eldest son " sang the praises " so thought would give another try ! No improvement whatsoeversoever.Only thing hot was the coffee ! Very politely Told waitressso, suggesting that that to help, the plates ought to be heated.She apologised Felt very sorry for her s it was not her fault. Obviously will not be visiting again in a hurry

Heel mooi gedecoreerd biedt dit Wetherspoons een grote keuze van gerechten aan. Mixed grill optie en huisgemaakte pizza's kan ik zeker aanbevelen. Er is een standard vaste selectie van bieren maar je kan ook een biertje van de tijdelijke offerte proeven. Er zou nooit te druk zijn om een vrije tafel te vinden maar als het weer mooi is, ga even naar het buiten zitten - op het boventerras of in de tuin op de achterkant van de kroeg.

Went to the pilgrims again for lunch with my mates, all ordered a mixed grill, with free pint of course lol, it was served in good time and once again hot and tasty!The staff are always excellent and on the ball, as usual spent most of the afternoon in there eating and drinking and having a ball.Came home later fully satisfied a little tipsy but lots of money still left in my wallet!Great day out again well done

Ordered a drink at 12.50, 10 minutes before last orders. Harassed by security at 1 am to drink up. Security smash my drink on floor at 1.05 and pushed out of door contributing to assault.

We came here as a family group after a pleasant afternoon by the river. The menu was quite extensive with a range of foods on "special" which meant that they included drinks with the meal. My wife and I had sirloin steaks which arrived only a few minutes after we ordered them. They were cooked to perfection and I was surprised that they included two fried eggs. Personally, I would have preferred peas instead of the eggs and one our party did, indeed, exchange his eggs for peas. He had been there before, but I didn't realise this was possible. My steak was tasty but was a bit gristly in places - at the price though it was still good value. The temperature in the restaurant was initially pleasantly cool (it was around 30deg C outside) but during our stay it gradually became uncomfortably hot. We, therefore, went up to the first floor for after meal drinks, where it was much cooler. We were surprised to see that the area opened onto a pleasant roof terrace. This is good, honest restaurant serving good pub grub and we'll certainly return there.

So many negative comments about this place i.e. went in for a cheap meal then they moan? why?. This is cheap pub grub & drinks!! the meals are very good for the price and the meal deals are excellent. Curry night is great value both quality and value. This particular Wetherspoons has large indoor bar & seating area and there is a very nice garden area. This outlet also offers hotel rooms and is located in the heart of Bedford. For value, family with young kids, great beer selection Wetherspoons offers the best value as long as you are not going in for a gourmet surprise. My 90 year old Dad loves Wetherspoons albeit he only visits with family, this visit was with myself, grand children and great grand children, the large eating area means you can get good size parties seated well order your food and it is quick!. Overall, Wetherspoons offers great value & quality for your money, just don't expect fine dining and silver service!!

Why does it deserve five stars? Because it’s an old style honest pub (albeit part of a huge chain) serving up affordable food and excellent drinks (it has a cask mark award) at unbeatable prices. There is nothing pretentious about this place, and that is reflected in the price. At these prices one can’t expect gourmet food. The food isn’t amazing. But it is priced honestly and anything I’ve eaten here has been great for the price I’ve paid. You do know what you’re going to get and it’s at a consistently reliable standard and price. The staff are friendly and some of the guys here go above and beyond one’s expectations.If you want a Michelin star experience go elsewhere. If you want fairly priced, well presented basic, tasty food with very well priced drinks then is the place to come. We didn’t even have to queue at the bar, we sat at our table and ordered via the app. Drinks came quickly and food was delivered in a timely manner. We both enjoyed this, and every other previous meal. They even have Cholula hot sauce, and for that alone they earn an extra mark from me!

Great place this, food is very good and so is the price, this place is a bargain gem, you must go enjoy !!!!👍

Well we went to this Wetherspoons for a drink. Getting served at the Bar wasn't Quick. We got Drinks on the App which were bought to our tabl Quite Quickly. But we had the Manager serve us on the App and the pictures show how bad the Service can be when the pub is busy. Too much rushing and not paying attention. These Drinks Carlsberg were meant to have been full Pints. This is how they ended up below.

La primera vez que fui a esta localidad fue por casualidad que encontré este establecimiento y me causó una muy grata impresión; por varios motivos: Rebosa "anglicidad" por los cuatro costados; el exterior ya es evocador e incita a la entrada, las habitaciones muy agradables, cuidadas y limpias, y con un curioso decorado como de pintura "roída" de un edificio viejo. De lo mejor, el pub que está abajo muy bien ambientado y con buena comida, a un precio fabuloso (el hotel también tiene un precio razonable), un encanto disfrutar de unos minutos en él. Repetí.

O restaurante tem muitas opções de cerveja. A comida é muito bem preparada e o serviço é rápido e eficiente.

Drinks were good . My husband is disabled and we asked where the toilet was, 2 if the door staff looked at each other. One said to the other one do you know where it is and have you got a key. The answer was yes. My husband was taken into the gents by one of them , his wheelchair barely fitting into the cubicle . On his way back he spotted the disabled toilet . Come on wetherspoons sort it out. Signage on walls would be good . Then we wouldn’t have to ask and e made to feel like an inconvenience!!!

Called in with some friends for a bite to eat, and although it was quite busy soon found a table. My food was good but, my mate had the wrong veg, and chips instead of mash potatoes, but they soon changed this. A good atmosphere. because we stayed talking till early evening. Nice place for a quick meal.

Fancied a steak all day so decided to come here. Ordered a 13oz Steak Medium rare took ages to come out half my friends had almost finished their food. The steak was Medium-Well Done. They had no peas so I said I’d have another egg instead; I don’t know how they fry their eggs but there was a thin paper like layer of whatever under the eggs. Was not happy at all I’ll just stick to the drinks their that are reasonably priced.

Once again we all descended on the pilgrims pub for our eat and drink day out, and once again we had excellent food and great fast service.Would recommend the pilgrims for its value for money on both their food and drink.The place has certainly changed since the old days.10 people all having different things all served quickly and efficiently, and everyone enjoyed it.Well done

It was on Tuesday steak club. I ordered steak and onion rings for extra side. The food wasn't hot, and too dried and onion rings too greasy. Good location location in town centre. We didn't stayed in this hotel

What an awful place. Poor quality food. Dried out chicken. Who one earth chose those plates? I know - they are a Wetherspoons bulk (cheap) buy.

Just wanted a quick, cheap lunch during a shopping trip to Bedford. Should know by now to avoid these places. This one is no different to the average Wetherspoons, sticky floors, dirty plates and cutlery, barely edible food. I've got no-one to blame but myself...
