Came for brunch with friends. Food was tasty and the srrvice was excellent

Lovely stay and would definitely return. Only reason for 4 stars is that the shower could have done with a new or really descaled showerhead to get best pressure and the mattress could have done with changing. I would encourage houskeeping to lie on mattresses to check for scalloping every now and again :-) ! Great pub hotel though with a fantastic team. Really enjoyed and would definitely return!

I stayed here with a group of friends for 3 weekday nights. The bedrooms were all of a decent size and, like the whole establishment, decorated in a rustic style with mostly recycled items. Whilst my room came with most of the usual extras (tea making, bathroom toiletries etc), it had just plain floor boards with no carpet, there was no bedside table, no chair other than a stool, only one electrical socket by the bed and no clothes hangers in the single wardrobe. There were extra sockets by the desk and tea making table. The king sized bed was extremely comfortable. There was no separate door to the bathroom although the toilet was separated by a frosted glass screen and door. The shower in bath provided ample hot water under pressure, but there was no handrail or anti-slip mat provided (no so good for us old folks). The bar and restaurant areas were very nice although some seats were over crowded with big fat cushions. Other than Friday night, the place was very quiet. Whilst the food in the restaurant was very good and value for money, the prices at the bar were extremely high (draft beer/lager £6+ per pint). As far as I could see, the only public toilets were upstairs. There was an extensive seating area outside, some of which was covered. The smallish car park had a fairly tight entrance, but included 3 electrical charging points. There was street parking, free overnight but expensive during the day. The staff were polite and friendly. Whilst it’s a generally nice and interesting hotel, there are too many negatives for me to stay here again.

We had an excellent Sunday roast at D’Parys last weekend. We had a table of 10, including 6 kids, and we were placed at the back of the restaurant, with a nice view of the gardens, and enough space we didn’t worry about the kids making noise, etc. The restaurant has a lovely feel to it, with nice decor, good natural light, and good table spacing. It was busy but never felt crowded. Service was flawless: quick and attentive. The food was very nice. We all had the roast beef and my group all reported enjoying it. A minor gripe I have is that the beef was well done, which I tend to think ruins it, but pretty much all carvery type places overcook their beef, so this is normal! The veggies and Yorkshire puddings were great. After a couple of average Sunday roasts elsewhere locally this felt like a much better experience and so I expect we’ll be back.

Stayed one night at this lovely hotel with family. The room was huge with a very cozy feel. Nice decor, loved the complimentary toiletries and who can resist a Border biscuit! Breakfast was amazing. I opted for the Full English and thoroughly enjoyed, it was cooked to order and there was a decent choice on the menu. Staff (Jack, Drew, Hannah, Alexandra, Mica and Ellie (apologies if I've misspelt any names!) were very attentive and knowledgeable. I even bought a bottle of the "Wine of the month, as recommended by Drew"! Definitely be back!

The food is very nice (truffle and hard cheese chips) and it’s good value compared to other pubs in Bedford. It has a good amount of side/starter dishes with a nice deal (4 for £20)

Booked a room for five at meeting for seven of us, service was great, good AV set up, treated well and happy to come back for future meetings. Food and hot drinks were great. Thank you to Drew and the team.

2nd visit to this delightful hotel. Stayed 2 nights with hubby and dog. Visiting family. Great service, smooth check in and fantastic food! Had evening meal and 2 breakfasts.. definitely value for money! Special thank you to Jake for his spot on drink recommendations! Will certainly be back!

Went for coffee and catch with a friend this afternoon. Ordered 2 vanilla lattes. Gentleman that served us was rude and obnoxious. When he brought over the coffees I politely asked for some sugar to which he replied...it's got vanilla syrup in it. He came back and plonked the sugar down. Unfortunately both lattes were luke warm so my friend went back to the bar to speak to the guy...who responded by saying...huh well they seemed fine to me. He did bring back 2 more coffees but they weren't that much hotter...bitter in taste too so we ordered 2 glasses of house red wine. The lady that brought them over was much more friendly. Final bill was £23!!! Terrible service, terrible coffee. My daughter went there last Saturday and waited 45 minutes before she got served her coffee...will be giving that place a wide birth now. No hospitality, service and it wasn't even that busy. Shame cos the actual place is really nice.

Like to say that today we throughly enjoyed the roast dinner. Was absolutely beautiful. We just like to thank you also two waitress was very polite serving us!thank you very much we will go again soon.

Food was amazing and great value for money. Very tasty and well presented. Would 100% go back. Warm and friendly atmosphere.

We gave it another shot after a dreadful experience on a Sunday where they ran out of everything! This was no better, such a shame, staff are lovely, surroundings are nice too. Undercooked, slimey chicken, we even got the chef out. Very dry un-appetising chicken sandwich.

Excellent service Tasty food and the vanilla iced coffee was amazing. Pork belly very good. The bar staff are excellent and very friendly. Highly recommend this pub.

Saturday 20/07/2024. Reserved Table of four for lunch. No one to greet us. Eventually told we could sit where we wanted. There appeared to be no service outside. Went in to get menus. Asked how it worked told come back in to order at the bar. Did so. Six staff-3 talking together at the bar 1 on a PC oblivious to everything and one kitchen staff talking to a waitress. Ordered drinks asked to pay. Said we were eating so could I open a tab. One person then asked the guy serving me if she could serve alcohol being under 18. Had to go back in to order food. Still no staff ventured outside to the about ten or twelve people out there. Food was fine except the kitchen person brought out the sausage roll but didn’t know what it was. The waitress insisted on giving all the meals to me instead of asking whose they were. Partner went into pay afterwards but they claimed to know nothing of the tab so drinks and food ended up being paid for separately. All in all an utter shambles. Was going to try and book a large family party but that wont happen now. I dont blame the staff at all. They clearly had received no training and had no supervision all the time we were there. You need to sort this out. I haven’t written a review in years but other diners need warning. Paul Flowers

Quite disappointed with the food and slow service. Shame that we didn’t enjoy it as it’s dog friendly which they certainly were. She had a lovely bowl of water and some treats from a lovely friendly waiter from Italy. Initially sat down and given menus. After quite a wait our food order was taken. The waitress hadn’t eaten the food and therefore couldn’t answer questions about it. No drinks order taken - she was leaving our table when I asked if we could order drinks. Quite a wait for food but if cooked fresh that’s understandable. Unfortunately food very disappointing. Lamb croquettes had no discernible lamb taste at all - no clue what is was. Crispy outside unrecognisable mousse texture inside. Scotch egg also disappointing- one of our favourite starters but not that one. Mac’n cheese was ok but couldn’t taste truffles. Overall wouldn’t go back.

I think they need to get someone to check rooms after the cleaners have finished. We had cobwebs behind the bed in the bathroom and window. All radiators in the room dusty and dirty plus dirty skirting boards. The bathroom was also not cleaned very well. The bed and pillows where uncomfortable. Breakfast Took a good 15 minutes before anyone came to see us and give us a menu . Coffee was just luke warm tea was OK but one coffee spoon for us to share as you they had run out of tea spoons.We ordered orange juice which never arrived we had to ask for it again. When breakfast arrived waitress never asked if we wanted any sauces we had to ask. Also she never came back to ask if everything was OK or if we would like anything else. There were uncleared tables left the whole time we were having our breakfast, chief moaning that every one comes in at 10am but it wasn't that busy 5/7 tables at the most. Outside area very unloved overgrown plants couldn't get through the steps to the restaurant with out them hitting you in the face. Dead plants in pots, it's a shame as if cared for would be a lovely area. I would also like to point out,no extractor fan in the toilet so smells enter into the bedroom area. You then have to leave the toilet area touching the door to go into the bedroom to wash your hands. The bathroom door makes a awful noise when you open and close it. I found it quite frightening sounded like the glass was going to break. Very disappointing stay after reading all your lovely reviews.

Me and the family came for a Sunday roast and the portion sizes, quality and taste of the food was brilliant. Service was also very friendly and helpful. I would definitely recommend!

We were at the Summer Sessions in Bedford and used the bar and restaurant at d'Parys. The bar has a great choice of beers and spirits with a local brewery being the main choice. We ate there on two days, and the food was good. Well presented and tasty belly pork, and well cooked salmon. Highly recommend the Cauliflower Satay which was delicious!! The garden area outside is a stunning place to sit and eat from the Bar Menu which has great choices of traditional pub grub!

Lovely atmosphere and good food.

Stayed here for one night for Bedford Summer sessions and can't really fault the place. The room was lovely and very quirky which gave the place character. Fancy bath and rainfall shower. Bed was soft and comfortable. All staff friendly and helpful, didn't eat dinner but the manager kindly offered to fit me in despite not having a booking. Breakfast was very filling and freshly cooked, enjoyed the later check out time on a day for the weekend. I would stay again Only thing I would say is that the rooms are not soundproof and you can hear your neighbours so maybe consider this if you are a light sleeper.

It’s a beautiful sunny day and the lovely barmaid lisa was so amazing when it came to recommendations and on top of it made our drinks so pretty and tasty! honestly it felt really refreshing to have such a warm atmosphere!

I booked D'parys as it looked like a decent option for an overnight in central Bedford but it ended up exceeding our expectations on all fronts. The building has bags of character and has loads of lovely unique touches and funky decor, lots of which has been repurposed or upcycled. Every single member of staff was friendly, professional, welcoming and helpful. Dinner was delicious, breakfast was fabulous and service was excellent for both meals. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend and we will definitely stay again :)

We went for dinner last night and the service was a 10....the food was very good...we ordered hamburgers, fish and chips and sausages and mash....but the best thing was the service from the two girls who were there hall!!! I will be back

My partner booked one of the rooms here for our 1st anniversary. This was our second stay, with the first having been our first date. With how amazing our first stay was our expectations were extremely high and yet again the place delivered a phenomenal experience. I arrived slightly early for check in, hoping to get in early and set up some bits, and I was met with 3 of the best staff of any business I think I've ever met. They were all so friendly and welcoming. Upon hearing of our anniversary they proceeded to give me an upgrade on our room, a welcome drink and even wrote us a card to wish us anniversary. 'Exemplary customer service' would be an understatement. Unfortunately the only name I manged to catch was that of Alexandra, who was an absolute ray of sunshine, however the lady and gentleman I also met along with her also deserve a mention! We'll definitely be back.

Nice hotel in a beautiful neighborhood. As previous reviewers had mentioned, the rooms are a little quirky in that the showers are open to the rest of the room. Still, they are comfy rooms and the staff is very welcoming and attentive. The food in the restaurant is very good. The hotel itself is interesting and comfortable but it is the hotel team that made our stay wonderful. Everyone we encountered had a smile on their face and made us feel right at home.

We stayed last night in an outside room with our little dog. Very quirky warm and comfortable. We had dinner on site. Lovely very quick service. The staff are all lovely. Only complaint, a 50min wait for breakfast. We will definitely be back..

We did not stay at the Hotel but decided to have an early dinner there with our two Granchildren 6 and 2 years. Our son in law and eldest son had poped in on Tuesday morning just for a drink. They had received such a warm welcome from a member of staff called Lisa we decided to give it a try. We were not dissapointed. We were fortunate to have Lisa as our waitress and she could not have been more helpful and kind to us and the children. One of our grandsons is diabetic, Lisa and the chef went to such lengths to help us work out the carbs in his meal. Eating with children can be quite stressful but thanks to the great attention we were given it was a very enjoyable meal. We all enjoyed our food very much and our eldest grandson said his pasta was the best he had ever had. We will definetly be returning after today's experience.

Temporary manager was simply amazing, it's a shame he will be returning to his pub in Stratford, he made our visit here exceptional. Hope he's still there when we return in a couple of months.

I stopped in for some food and to check this out in case, I needed to visit again. It's a really nice place to get food and coffee.

Had come down to visit my friends and was recommended that we go D’Parys. We had gone on a Monday night so the were able to get a table just by calling up ahead. Food was brought through promptly. I would definitely recommend trying the Truffle Cheesy fries and the Steak Burger.

D'Parys is an exceptionally nice hotel and has the best staff I ever encountered. The room I had (Taragon) was lovely. The restaurant serves good food. Some days it was bristling with people and chatter and other days it was more quiet. Breakfast is from a menu, and lovely. I stayed for 4 nights. If I ever come back to Bedford, this is where I'll stay.

We only stayed for one night thank goodness. Stayed in room 11 on the top floor. Free standing taps loose, toilet seat hanging off, poor lighting above sink to try and get ready to go out. We had staff talking outside and walking up and down the loose floorboards on the landing at 2am. Was a horrible experience with hardly any sleep. Even when we checked out the lady just said thanks had no interest if we had a good stay or not. Overall experience was terrible and I would avoid staying at this hotel

Had a lovely meal here tonight, 7th February. Great service, particularly from Lisa & her team. I would highly recommend eating at the De Parys Hotel/pub. Thank you for a great evening!

Excellent, food was great, service was quick and staff very friendly. Helped us with our disabled Grandson. Will visit again.

Very quirky set up. Open plan rooms with bath in the middle and toilet in a glass cubicle. Must confess I prefer a seperate toilet with a proper shower but that's just me. Good location and polite staff. Breakfast was nice. Don't know what you're supposed to do with 2 small pieces of sourdough on a full English ? Glad my job paid for it....I would have cried at £16.90! Overall I liked it but the best thing was the bed was very comfy and I slept like log

Very cosy place, specially winter time with open fire place, comfy armchairs and the perfect design.

Stayed in a dog friendly coach house room. Super comfy and quiet, lovely bath in the room. All the staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming. Always happy and smiling. Had a full English breakfast which was absolutely amazing! Also had Sunday lunch yesterday with family: service again was exceptional. Starters (note that some are ‘bar snacks): pork belly bites- were amazing, perfectly cooked, crispy and soft. Calamari- very small portion but tasty, halloumi fries- tasty but a little small, kofta- very very small but tasty. Roast 3 meats was fantastic and huge portion, cooked perfectly. Fish and chips- best I’ve had in a long while. Cauli & cheesy leak side was very tasty and a good size.

Decided to meet up with the family (6) for breakfast, the staff were very pleasant but after a long wait for our coffee to be served which was only warm (we did return some of them & they were remade), our breakfast was served, unfortunately the bacon must have been grilled on a grill that had the remnants of fish hence it had a strange fish taste. It was a shame that we were not asked during our meal is everything all right otherwise I think 30 % of the food would have been retuned. I have never been to a restaurant that serves breakfast that when the waitress asked if we would like sauce and then said “I am sorry we have no brown sauce only tomato” if they knew they had run out it only takes 5 minutes to go down the road & buy a bottle! Certainly not the best breakfast by far.

It has taken me a few days to calm down so that I write a balanced review. So the food, was awesome. I couldn’t fault the food, absolutely delicious. The issue was the service. It was our first wedding anniversary so wanted it to be special. What we got was literally the worst experience we’ve ever had in a restaurant. We walked in and were seated at our table. We were one of only four tables with people on so it wasn’t busy at all. We then never saw a server! We waited so long with no drinks I walked to the bar, got served and was back at our table enjoying our drinks by the time someone appeared and asked if we were ready to order food. Absolutely no awareness that I had gone and got our drinks. Unheard of!!! We ordered the camembert sharer which arrived quite quickly, and got launched onto the table before the waitress disappeared. Absolutely no mention of ‘enjoy your food’ or ‘that looks nice’ or ‘can I get you anything else’. I walked up to the waiters station to ask for some side plates which were missing. I assume it was the male manager who then fetched these and I returned to enjoy our starter. This got cleared away and as she went to walk away I had to ask for some more drinks. The main arrived and as the waitress disappeared again I had to get up and retrieve some cutlery from another table or I would be eating with my hands. We finished our delicious food and decided to take our drinks to the comfortable seating in the bar area. It is worth mentioning that we were now the ONLY table left in the restaurant and had to sit there listening to one waitress say to the other ‘why is there no guests’? We felt very valued. We felt even more valued when whilst sat in the bar area enjoying our drinks the manager walked to the front doors closing them (it was 20:15 and the restaurant doesn’t close until 21:00). He then boastfully walked past us and announced to the staff that he had ‘locked up’. (Which they thought was excellent). We sat there not even sure if we would be able to get out, and feeling very much as if we had outstayed our welcome we quickly drank our drinks and left. We have never felt so awkward and undervalued as customers ever. We will not return and will not recommend this restaurant. The restaurant looks lovely but I can go to any chain restaurant and be treated much better. I would put the service from the waiting staff down to training, but the managers actions were simply rude.

I phoned up the place quite late on Sunday evening because my boyfriend and myself were desperately for a roast. Unfortunately they run out of Yorkshire puddings at that time but the food was really tasty. The service was brilliant with Maddie and Lisa that looked after us, we will definitely come back on an earlier time!

We came for a family roast.. it was warm when it arrived.. ordered the dessert it took ages to come.. we could see the chef dishing the food up eating a ice cream.. unbelievable to be honest

After a lovely meal here a month ago we were looking forward to returning. Could not have been more disappointed. 3 out of our four mains were inedible. Medium filet steak which was served without a hint of pink and extremely dry. A burger cooked to within an inch of its life and again VERY dry and tasteless and a beef pie with cheesy mash that can only be described as the worst mash I’ve ever eaten. Tasteless, lumpy and definitely not cheesy. Returned to the kitchen to check if the chef had added cheese. Returned to the table and had clearly been microwaved as it had hard burnt but around the edges - still couldn’t taste the cheese. Service wasn’t great unfortunately. 10-15 minute wait for drinks to be bought to our table after ordering (it wasn’t busy) and the waitress quite abrupt (even more so after we complained). Will not be returning!!

We were a bit worried by some of the reviews but thought we’d try it anyway and we’re very glad we did. We waited a few minutes to be seated but they were busy and the drinks took a while to come but apart from this the service was very good. My husband had a swordfish starter which he really enjoyed. Two of us had pulled brisket pies and the third person had duck. All the meals were really good and well presented. This was followed up with 3 peach tart tatins which were also great. We will definitely be back

Lovely guest house in Bedford UK, Located in a beautiful road next to the park. The house is well maintained and provides all you need for cosy break.

Had the fish pie , I can honestly say it is the worst I have ever had .The presentation was awful , the only fish in the dish was salmon , with what tasted like the white of a boiled egg , nothing else it was terrible .Not the standard of food we would have expected , such a shame as the place is great , lovely space outside .The young man behind the bar was great , but you need to sort your food out , certainly does not frlect the property 😞😞😞

Booked for breakfast today, as we had been there before and wasgood, today however was very disappointed, service was good waitress very friendly, but the food another thing, husband had eggs royale, salmon very lumpy, I had scrambled egg,sausage, mushrooms and hash brown, had to ask for the sausage to be cooked more as arrived very pink when bought back still pink,so asked to get cooked further, nit brilliant as other items cool by then.very disappointed. Asked to use the disabled toilet and was given a key to use,toilet was disgusting, broken seat, and obviously not been cleaned, so all in all ,not a good look for the hotel

Popped in for a drink and asked about and food and was met by I am assuming the manager with a comment of well if we anything left and thought wow ok Got our drinks and was given a menu sat outside chose few nibbles Which when came were so so had to ask for the dip that went with one and have been before and was a lot better

This place looks lovely from the outside and is set up nicely inside, but that’s where it stops unfortunately. The food let’s this place down and of course the lack of staff, especially at the weekend - which I know can’t be helped. The waitresses are run ragged and can’t keep up with customer demands (poor things). They’re doing their best! They just need help from their manager who was behind the bar, due to not having staff that were over a certain age to serve drinks. The food itself is average and is served cold , and overdone when it arrives at the table. It clearly sat under the heat lamps for such a long time as the staff can’t get around everyone quick enough. The chefs constantly ring the bell for someone to collect. The owners need to take a hard look at the service of this place and help their staff when needed.

Really poor food, flavourless and overcooked. Drinks very slow and a grubby environment. Busy night in Bedford due to concerts in the park but this was a pre booked table. Staff unhelpful and disinterested when we commented food was under par - left after mains. This was a good venue - real disappointment

Arrived at 730pm for an evening meal with some friends. Not been here for a while so thought we'd try it. Got shown to our table and 2 minutes later we were asked if we would like a drink but hadn't seen a drinks menu which we were soon given. Asked the waitress what beers they had and the response was "errrr beers". Not a great start or response and the options weren't even on the drinks menu, anyway we got around that and got that sorted. Next our food order was taken which was repeated back to us but incorrectly so we had to let the waitress know who then repeated it back correctly. I even joked with our friends that I bet the food arrives wrong. Starters arrived all ok and were lovely. Low and behold however the main meals were a bit of a disaster....1 wrong meal and 1 didn't turn up. My friend ordered the chicken Nicoise however salmon turned up as they'd run out of chicken apparently. My friend doesn't even eat salmon and they didnt even ask if she would like that instead. 3 minutes later a chicken one turns up even though they said they had no chicken so now we're being lied to. I then had to wait about another 15 minutes for my meal as it was forgotten. Take into account we'd been at the restaurant an hour and a half and were only just starting main meals. We also had to take the clean cutlery off the table next to us as we weren't given this with our meals. Inbetween starters and main meals we'd ordered a round of drinks, yet again 1 was forgotten about so had to wait on that again. Another waitress came over to apologise and said the previous waitress was new. That's fine and people always need training however if they weren't competent then shadow them and train them to help get it right. Another male waiter came over to apologise and said he'd talk to the manager to help compensate us for what had happened...that's ok and great. Another female waitress then came over and said the manager had gone home and she was just a waitress and was apologetic again...to be honest she was very kind and I felt sorry for her as it was like she was left to deal with it all whilst others maybe hid. To be clear we didn't shout, but did advise on the disappointment of the service. To cut a long story short we were fairly compensated for the poor service and the food was actually nice when we got it. We did expect however to come to a fairly premium restaurant to get a premium service and sadly we didn't get this. Training was clearly lacking and lack of ownership on the business side of things. I would have much preferred the original waitress to come over and apologise for what had happened...instead it was passed onto a couple of other people to deal with who clearly looked uncomfortable and maybe slightly embarrassed. Ironically there was a table not far away which also had a minor complaint and also it wasn't even that busy so that couldn't be used as an excuse. Such a shame really.

5 start service for our waitress Mallie. She was so accommodating with our bill/ dietary requirements and she went out of her way to ensure we had an enjoyable evening. Our food was mostly very enjoyable - the steaks were cooked to perfection and were a great cut but I have have taken a star rating off as the chicken was over cooked - however this was dealt with very well.

It’s an impressive building from the outside and the decor inside continues that theme; this place certainly has the impression of a high end venue. The staff are all friendly and there’s a good mix of different seating in the initial bar area, from sofas to high tables for singletons and couples. The surprising aspect is the decent prices given the smart vibe. For a special occasion or something a bit more than the usual pub vibe I’d recommend here and will certainly be returning.

Lovely setting and ambiance, brilliant and attentive waitress. Food however mixed: beetroot and goats cheese tortellini delicious; 'luxury' fish pie volcanically hot and totally dried out, bland tasting and practically inedible. A shame.

Had been looking forward to coming for dinner here as such a Lovely looking restaurant. Arrived at 8pm and waited an hour and a half for food. For starters we ordered Camembert which was very nice but had barely any bread with it. Main course...

Stayed overnight sat down at 10:45 for breakfast (which was included and paid for). No one let us know last orders were 10:45. Tried to order shortly after 10:50 “sorry breakfasts finished” Rest of the party turned up and made the journey for special occasion...

I had high hopes for the food here, however the reality couldn’t have been further away from my expectations. When we were seated there was cleaning spray hanging on the back of the chair, the cutlery on the table felt sticky, as did the table....
