Been going here for years! Always consistently good food and the eat in upstairs restaurant is excellent, modern, clean and great atmosphere. Food brought out quickly and efficiently by friendly staff. I will continue to eat here for years to come. Thank you

Wow never had such small fish in my life apart from the ones you win at the fair..can’t afford to eat there again as it does not fill you up..I got a fish for me and one for my son and if you put them together they make up 1 whole fish so you only get half a fish for the price it should have been better but lesson learnt and won’t go there again

Superb fish and chips! Always absolutely gorgeous. I’ve been many times and they’re always fresh and hot, never refried. 10/10.

This isn't a review about the food as due to their ridiculous booking policy we couldn't try it !!! Having enjoyed good food at their Guisely branch before my child and I wanted to eat here while in the area. No way to book online so called the number a few times and kept getting same message saying they don't accept bookings for groups smaller than 8 but to just turn up. We drove a long distance specifically to eat here, to be met with a ridiculous queue stretching down the stairs and along the pavement. SORT YOUR BOOKINGS OUT !!!

I wish I lived nearer to here! My family and I went for lunch today and absolutely loved it. Every plate was fantastic and portion size was great. We all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and hopefully will be back soon!

Love using the online ordering service here just gets a bit confusing when collecting as not clear.

They lost our order ,after 15 minutes of waiting they didnt bother to ask us what we waiting for considering we were the only clients in the shop

Been a few times and won’t be going again, almost £20 for two fish & chips and what I had actually bought was mainly batter & chips. A small tasteless fish encased in a thick coat of greasy batter on top of loads of average chips. It was still busy for a Monday night though.

Been coming for a couple of years now and the fish and chips used to be beautiful, now the chips are dry and the fish has thick over cooked batter...not nice. I like a light crispy batter. Just couldn't eat the fish

This review is for the fabulous service we received by Connor H (name on receipt). He is an absolute credit to the Whaler team and should be applauded. He was clearly under pressure, due to a shortage of staff, but he went about his business methodically and was so polite to every customer. This is why I have given 5 stars. The food was excellent and of high quality, although disappointed to see you now pay for bread per slice and at 30p a slice it does seem excessive.

Como familia hemos utilizado esta pescadería durante años. Recientemente descubrimos que la calidad y el servicio ha resbalado. En particular, un joven miembro del personal no era comprensivo para mi hermano discapacitado! Junto con las opciones de calidad y valor han perdido un cliente habitual de más de 25 años. La formación sobre diversidad e inclusión del personal puede ser un comienzo.

Excellent Haddock and chips at a very reasonable price for us over 60's including a pot of tea or coffee all served in pleasant surroundings. Plus on a very cold January day it was comfortable warm

Visitamos el restaurante el sábado por la tarde estaba muy ocupado y nos dijeron que tendríamos que esperar, pero que nos sentaríamos en breve no tuvimos que esperar mucho antes de que nos mostraran a nuestra mesa. Tuvimos nuestro pedido tomado por un joven muy servicial y el servicio durante toda nuestra visita fue excelente. Sin embargo la comida llegó pedimos dos pescados regulares con papas fritas, mi pescado parecía más un dedo largo de pescado y la masa era suave y no muy crujiente, aunque muy oscuro mi esposa era ligeramente mejor, pero todavía no muy bueno! Las patatas fritas estaban bien y tuvimos un tazón de curry que también estaba bien. Por £ 30 me decepcionó mucho.

Wetherby Bridge Club held a fish and chip and bridge evening. We ordered fish and chips x 42 portions which was prepared, packed and even helped to load in my car. Everything was lovely. A big big Thankyou to all the staff who made this a great experience.

Quick efficient and tasty, called after a family event locally. The staff were friendly and accommodating. Even gave the kids a little gift. Visited many a time and never been disassociated.

Something has happened with that old British favourite, fish and chips. Perhaps they have become rarified or fancified - but the price has gone through the roof. Wetherby Whaler, in the charming town of Wetherby, is truly a local institution. Whilst prices have risen (where hasn't?!), this place still has lovely fish and chips at a reasonable price. The restaurant is cheery and clean - and the staff are friendly. Overall an excellent place. I'll be back ... you can't beat a classic.

Nunca he estado realmente impresionado con la comida que decidimos darle una oportunidad más, conseguí una salida el domingo y debo decir que la comida era horrible. Conseguí dos culotes de patatas fritas y eran horribles, las patatas fritas parecían estar cocinadas el día anterior y estaban frías, por favor vea la foto que he adjuntado. Nunca volveré a visitar este lugar de nuevo, de hecho estoy considerando contactar con la agencia de estándares alimentarios y reportarlos.

Nice, clean restaurant with friendly professional staff and comfortable seating. Good variety of food on offer, the chips, peas and onion rings were to a high standard. The trifle for dessert was delicious. Staff weren't trying to hurry you along so you could enjoy your meal in peace.

Sorry to have to say not very good fish very small chips really greasy, a shame really it was once the place to go to for a decent portion to take away, but it's seems that all food outlets have gone down the pan of late

No he visitado por unos años, pero estaban encantados con este restaurante. Excelente lugar, muy acogedor en un día frío, impecablemente limpio en todas partes, incluyendo los baños! Pedimos el eglefino y las patatas fritas (una porción escalfada) más guisantes y un poco de pan. La presentación fue genial. El pedido incluía una buena olla de té Yorkshire con una recarga de agua caliente. La comida era deliciosa - platos totalmente vacíos. El personal era excelente también. Realmente amable y la cantidad justa de atención. Volveremos muy pronto.

El tiempo era una salida del Wetherby Whaler era un evento que esperaba. La generación mayor de nuestra familia que vivía en Wetherby acogía los sábados días de ‘fish and chip’ y el Ballenero siempre era la fuente. Nunca nos decepcionó, el Ballenero se convirtió en el patrón por el cual todos los demás restaurantes de pescado y papas fritas fueron juzgados. Lamentablemente, a medida que la generación mayor se reducía en número y como consecuencia las visitas al Ballenero se reducían en frecuencia, lo que significa que la última vez fue hace bastante tiempo. En memoria del último miembro sobreviviente de esa generación mayor que murió recientemente, decidimos que sería bueno honrar su memoria almorzando con pescado y papas fritas mientras estábamos ocupados en despejar la casa. Lamentablemente el saque fue de lo más decepcionante. El pescado, que era un «especial» , no era de la mejor calidad, era grande pero con pescado pobre y masa empapada eso no era realmente una compensación. Las patatas fritas eran realmente horribles, muy empapadas e insípidas. Es triste cuando una institución de este tipo sale de ebullición. En un momento consideramos que valía la pena el viaje de Harrogate a Wetherby solo para saber que nuestra salida era del Ballenero. Ahora no, hay tiendas de pescado y patatas fritas mucho mejores en Harrogate, así que seguiremos siendo locales.

Excellent chippy in Wetherby. The quality of the food is superb; had fish, chips and curry. Nothing was greasy, and a glass of merlot to compliment it. Second visit; will be going again. The staff are friendly and jovial. If you're in the area this is a great eatery.

Stopped here to eat on way to Lake District. Fish and chips, rather grey haddock in very dark and salted batter. Disappointing.

My husband always tries to have fish n chips on a Friday so as we was in Yorkshire we must have them , our daughter who has had them from there when she worked in Harrogate & told us she only had the take away but they are the best she has ever had , she wasn't wrong thay are very very good , the young girl that served us was very professional & they was very busy but still chatted a bit to us which was nice. The restaurant is upstairs but we noticed there is a lift & a ramp between the different part of the dining room so very goodfor people who can't manage the stairs .

A delicious Haddock n Chips with mushy peas. The batter was nice and thin and crispy, the fish cooked beautifully flakey and moist. And a Black Sheep beer, happy days!

Fish was a skinny tail end, chips were okay, not worth stopping off if your on the A1, used to be. Just another average fish shop.im out.

The fish the size of a small batter sausage, Yorkshire fish cake with not much fish in it at all yet plenty of fish bones 🙈 crazy ! Mildly warm mushy peas, not great this time and we are pretty regular here sadly won’t be coming back for a while now. The fish has halved in size since we last came a couple months ago.

Portion size as got ridiculous compared to months ago yet still the same price but half the portion £20 spent and a waste of money hungry an hour later. Will not be returning again!

when we arrived we were shown to a table that was only suitable for one person not two the staff were miserable the fish batter was so hard the waitress took it away and brought me another which was almost the same where is the crispy batter seen in the photographs chips to be fair were good but you now have to pay for bread and butter over all not a good experience and we will not be going again

What you would expect. Traditional sit down Yorkshire fish and chips. Cup of tea, glass of dandelion and burdock, bread and butter. Go for it.🤗

Another great visit to Wetherby Whaler after a nice day out. Now fully refurbished and it looks great. Well finished and with good AC too made a comfortable meal with good service and great Fish and Chips.

Called into the restaurant for a table of 8 including 5 kids. The server rolled her eyes at us when we walked in. Then said we could only have 2 tables of 4 which was fine. She got some menus and walked away. Came back a few seconds later and said "what are you doing? Are you coming or not". I said well you didn't ask us to follow you so are we just guessing? She rolled her eyes again and grunted at us to come to the tables. Chucked all the menus on one table and walked off. We ended up leaving and getting a takeaway. Supposed to be a family restraunt and we most definitely weren't welcome.

Food ok but expensive. Avoid going by car as nearby car park have hefty fines run by external companies. Family get together for a couple of hours cost over £300.

We had never been to wetherby before but it had been highly recommended by my brother in law who highlighted the several excellent butchers shops and especially this chip shop called the Wetherby whaler. He described the fish as being huge and in his words like a whale. He was right. No wonder the place……no pun intended……is so popular.

Absolute top notch food. Service was ok. Friendly, but a little slow for a chippy imho. Had to remind the fella I wanted scraps (he’d forgotten) had to remind the fella I wanted ketchup (he’d forgotten) was not disappointed with the fish chips mushy peas etc for the 3 of us at all. Would definitely buy from there again.
