Best fish and chips we had since touring the UK.. staff were super friendly, food portions were enormous and the taste was fantastic. Thanks guys.. we will see you next time we are in the country!

Delicious freshly cooked large portions

We have been a few times now and it's always great food at a great price served by happy staff that give great service. One of the best places to eat for a fifty mile radius.I will be back for sure Oh and a lovely cheese burger.

I paid a lot of money for fish, large chips and large mushy peas. Waited for fish to cook. Thought off when counter called, not right, but confirmed it was and didn’t want to call my number as someone was on the mobile phone. Went home with it. A large bag of chips and a pot of an unknown sauce. Had to drive all the way back. Came home with 1/2 kids version of chips compared to large bag, normal fish and some mushy peas. Lots of driving and waiting and returning for little food. Very expensive meal. Will not be returning as it was ridiculous what happened!! I did not pay by card, previously been turned away as cash only. So arrived with cash. Wow, your reply of very scathing and blaming of me for not getting an order right!!! I had to drive 12 miles back to change it. Of course I would not be happy!!! And no apology, so just wanted to leave. Wow, your attitude shows in the review. Very unprofessional.

First time at what is now a local(ish) chippy. Had chips, sausage and curry sauce. Was good portion size and tasty.

We cannot see the size of the portions before we buy. 2. I travel all over the UK and frequently have to rely on takeaways when the situation calls for it. It's not ideal but it does give me a LOT of experience of take aways and consequently I can compare them region to region and yours is very expensive and has very small portions, it's you that sets the price and you that dishes the portions not me, so the review is accurate and FAIR. 3. I don't complain about the price of fuel when I fill up because A. I use a company fuel card so it's not me that's footing the bill. B. The fuel market price is dictated by OPEC so it would be unfair to review a local petrol station on that basis. Whereas you set your price and your portion size, presumably without considering the price of fuel at your local Shell garage :-)

I was on a work trip and placed a really big order, the owners could not have been more helpful! The food was delicious and piping hot, amazing considering we ordered for 27 people.. would highly recommend!!

We had a family get together near Ilminster. We decided the fish and chips would be an idea meal. Our group was 14 with a variety tastes. We ordered our meal for collection, everything was hot, everything was ready. The portion size was generous. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The taste was great. The meal was a huge success. Highly recommend this fish and chip shop. I am sorry to other customers if my order held you up for a couple of minutes.

Best Fish chips for miles; constantly amazed by quality and flavour; Wow!

The cod itself was delicious and hefty but the chips mediocre and the undrained oil from the fish poured through the box and ruined my jeans. This rating is purely based on the quality of fish but be warned..

Amazing (as always) Although this is always busy, the staff are very polite & work like well oiled machines to get you served as quick as possible, never had any issues with quality of food here

Best chips around, dont know what the secret is but these chips are the best. The fish is great too, everyone is friendly and welcoming. Highly recommend

Rather grumpy staff. Disappointing quality, especially the chips which were quite greasy and had to be thrown away (even the dog wouldn’t eat them!).

Horrible person serving had no communication skills and had nothing in apart from a roe and a small sausage chips look like they had been boiled on a radiotor and the shop had a smell of something I can't explain but the pop was nice 🤣😃

Have been a customer of West Street for many, many years. The current owners quality of fish & chips, as well as service and accomodating any special cook requirements is as good, and in my opinion,the best it has ever been. Thoroughly recommend and personally would not consider going anywhere else. Portions are also extremely generous!

Don't bother queuing up, as priority is given to online bookings, and they go to the front to get served despite the fact that I queued for more than 40 minutes just to get to the door. I had already been in the queue for more than 30 minutes when I witnessed one chap arrive, he spotted the length of the queue, he then got on his phone, ordered his fish and chips, and was served before I even got to the door along with several others that had ordered online too. Moral of this story is... order online, because they don't care how long you've stood outside watching people effectively queue jump.... most infuriating.

We're not local to this area so choosing a fish and chip shop can be in the lap of the gods. However, we certainly picked a winner with West Street. Fish was delicious really nicely cooked, batter crispy all over, no soggy bits. Not greesey at all, chips were lovely as well, good portion and still nice and hot when we got them back to our Airbnb. Definitely will have to visit again before we go home. My husband said how well they were dealing with COVID situation.

Good sized portions - started doing halloumi chips recently, which are very tasty. Can be prone to under-cooking the cod sometimes...note to self: ask to cook for a tad longer.

Whilst on a visit to Frogstreet Farm over the bank holiday weekend, we visited West Street Fish and Chips for our Friday night supper. The food was excellent and nice and hot even after our four mile journey back to Frogstreet. Staff were friendly and social distancing was kept.

On holiday in ilminster, googled fish and chip shops and this one had the highest rating. Lovely food but their online menu is out of date.

We went about a month ago and now go back every week. Very good value and delicious fish and chips. They will even cook the chips longer if you ask!

Found this fish and chip shop via Google on our way back from holiday. What an absolute gem! the service was fantastic, the fish was brilliantly cooked and the chips were very tasty too. Well done to all those reviews - you weren't wrong and I would endorse with a five-star review of my own. Isn't the internet brilliant for when you need it. Google maps took straight from the main road to the shop - no problems. If we are ever in the area again will definitely stop by - well done all!

This fish and chip shop not only sell tasty takeaway food but it’s best asset are the owners and staff who work here, even if they are busy they make time to greet and chat to all customers and treat you all like friends.

I was in Ilminster recently and tried cod and chips from this shop. It was the best I've had anywhere for a long time. They even serve it in a cardboard container. I don't normally write reviews but felt this place deserves to be highly recommended.

We have bene going to West Street Fish and Chips for years, even after it changed hands they consistently deliver some of the best fish and chips I have ever had from restaurant or "chippy". The queue outside is sufficient testament to how good this plaice (ahem) is!

The fish and chips here are pretty awesome! They really pile up your chips which is great for the money. The fish is just right, the batter on the fish is in my opinion right the amount and most importantly it's nice and crispy. Now I'm hungry...

Best fish and chips I have found in the area

2 minutes away from house i was staying in . New ownership who certainly were very professional. Thursday evening was as busy as a Friday in other towns . Large portions . I had plaice , chips , two cobs and a gherkin for £7.00 so normal price for the south.

I've used this chip shop a number of times with our cadets and they have our delivery ready for collection but...their phone number no longer works - can anyone please let me know what it is so i can contact them for this year's order? I'm not local so can't pop in.

Decent portions of tasty chips. Curry sauce is good too. The supply of feminist posters and signs have been removed after new ownership. Friendly staff and clean equipment makes for a pleasant atmosphere.
