Crewkerne Fish Bar in South Somerset

Called in today at lunchtime for some fish and chips. Been before several times but this time the fish was tasteless and the chips a soggy mess. What a waste of money. A real disappointment.

Not used this fish and chips before even after living in Crewkerne for around 2 or so years, second time having their fish and chips, and so far has been delicious. Portion sizes are great, the batter on their sausages are lovely. Peafritters are also lovely, batter is not too greasy.

This is the best fish and chips I've ever had and I've eaten it in many places. It's freshly cooked, nice and crisp and the staff are very friendly.

Soggy pile of limp white chips and a sloppy piece of expensive fish about the size of a sausage. When will this place learn to cook their food longer.

Visitng the area and found this on the web. Quite acceptable, but not the best F&C we've had.

Unfortunately the chips were a fail. I thought on Saturday lunch time the chips would be fresh but only warm and leathery. Not a positive lunch take away.

Taste very stale did not like them at all will not b there again staff looks mean and uninviting !!! Me and my husband are devastated as used to be a good place.

Used to go here all the time and food has always been lovely,ordered 2 burgers 2 large chips and 2 sausages,the burger was way Over done,one of them was missing an egg we had asked for,the chips tasted horrible like dirty oil was not worth the £30 spent on it will not be going back

Had a family gathering in a nearby holiday house. There were 17 of us, so we phoned the order through, and picked it up about 15mins later. Everything was piping hot, portions of chips were huge! All the food was good, no complaints at all

One Portion of chips, portion of scampi and cod. £18.00 . Chips cold and uncooked plaice batter soggy. Complained apparently we are the only ones that have complained. Obviously dont read the review then! AVOID

Absolutely awful ,definitely won’t be going back ! Most of it went in the bin as chips were so dry ! Chicken worst I’ve ever seen, smelt and not edible! The food was cold as we had long wait for such a simple order ! The staff took what was cooked from the oven …instead of giving it to customers first! Even the curry sauce was cold and awful …how can you get that wrong ! Absolute waste of £30 ! Staff footwear looked like mucking out animal boots …Clean shoes /boots when working in a food premises is important!

A lot of waste as chips not very nice ,dry ! Most of the food cold when we got home as not organised and a long wait … chicken awful !

Used to be lovely a while back, but recently the cod has been so thin! Around the same thickness as a piece of plaice! Chips are lovely though. Need to buy in better cuts of cod not the tail ends.

On Sunday the 4th feb I went to this fish bar after a very busy day at work I got fried chicken and chips the chicken was so over cooked the meat was hard and the skin was very burnt and my chips were put in or rather squished into a a small bag I just threw the hole lot in the bin not even given the chicken to my dogs just in case it choke them

I can definitely say that this was the worst fish and chips I have received and I won't be going back. From the way it was portioned, not individual portions like others but all packed together so it fell apart when dishing up and very soggy batter which was unpalatable and chips that were undercooked also they had a bitter taste.

I ordered Haddock and it was lovely. I highly recommend this fish and chip shop.

Always use this fish bar when in Crewkerne, always lovely fish and large portions, very satisfied with service, meal and cost,

Smallest kebab wrap ever. It was also presented fanned out to make it look bigger. When I challenged the person who made it he told me the owner dictates the size, but he will pass on my comments. If I wasn’t in a hurry I would have taken a picture and ask to speak to the owner. Really not happy that the people present could not rectify my complaint. In hindsight I should have asked for my money back. Oh well you live and learn.

Passing through the village unexpectedly and found this chippy. Fish was cooked perfectly and chips were great and staff friendly.

Thought it was about time we tried this place for ourselves. We own an air b n b nearby and our guests rave about it...so off we went and we were so glad we did. We could not believe the size of the portions (and we chose small portions). We couldn't eat it all! Everything was great and we would thoroughly recommend. Staff were supper friendly too.

Went in for fish and chips on Saturday night was disgusted by the state of one of the staff members going by the name of smiler I believe, he was filthy, dirty nails and clearly had no personal hygiene routines a bath wouldn’t go a miss! Needless to say after seeing this guy I chose not to eat from there as I’m not keen on food poisoning!

Went in the other evening, was served by a disgusting, dirty man with revolting dirt under finger nails and generally looked like a tramp. Overheard other people's comments about him and how appalled they were with him - they called him Smiley or Smiler or something. Suggest management seriously talk to him before customers get food poisoning. Will never return.

Always been relatively good, however the pricing has increased by a significant amount. Fully aware that the cost of living has also risen however a portion of chips has risen by over £1

Fantastic fish and chips - best in town! A wide range of choice. Scampi is also lovely. Also does tasty kebabs. Angelo is the main man.

Everything was fine but the only bad point was the chips tasted like lunchtime or night before chips not fresh, would I go again I would but I would go much later and see if the chips were freshly cooked if they are the same again I would not go back for a third time

Used to be the best fish and chips in Crewkerne but our recent visit after almost a year of not coming has changed my mind. The battered sausages could hardly be called battered. The batter mix was completely wrong, it was a pale sloppy mess on the sausage with no crunch. The chips were hardly touched by oil and curry sauce was only just warm. We go to Yeovil now as the drive is well worth the food from a chain fish & chip shop.

With recent new owners, the chips are at last crispy! I am so fussy with y chips, I hate soggy chips. I had a pleasant surprise when I caved in to the wonderful smell drifting down my road, and paid a visit. After a long ago disappointment I was apprehensive, but the good news is that since my previous visit, there are new owners! Hurrah! Crispy chips!

Much better now, they must have changed the oil etc as the food was lovely the other night!

Large portion’s of chips and very friendly staff

I tried Crewkerne Fish bar for the first time this evening. When I arrived a chap was complaining that the chips and food he had received previously (night before) were less than satisfactory. During this exchange the staff were patient, polite and didn't charge him full price for his food. I thought that was quite decent as the story he told and his actions of returning to the same place so soon didn't quite add up. My experience was, that, the food was really good, even after a 20 minute drive home. The staff were great and I'd happily return again.

Called in late after travelling all day. The fish was cooked from fresh, the chips were gorgeous as was the curry sauce, and all at a very affordable price, lower than a lot of others I have used this year. My local chippy from now on.

We grabbed a take away from here on Sunday as it was the last night in Somerset. I have to say the fish and chips was lovely and portions were great. Kids fish was generous and the older daughter had a mega burger (this shops sells everything). It was all fresh made so you wait for your order which is not a problem at all. The fish and chips tasted like good old fish and chips, in London a lot of places remove the skin and here it is not to my husbands joy. My only issue while I appreciate the young girls at the front of the counter shouting the orders over and keeping the gents cooking moving. They were not happy and kept making that clear and were moaning an awful lot. When I walked in being a tourist I asked politely what was in the said burger and was told it was written on the menu and pointed to the wall. I then asked did they do a kids fish and chips and the answer was yes it's on the menu on that wall (other direction). I think a simple yes would suffice knowing there was nearly 10 menus across 2 walls it wasn't the easiest of displays. While waiting they did nothing but moan about the chefs which was quite off putting and if I hadn't paid I may have walked out. I hate saying that but nothing worse than whining staff! Oh and I ordered 3 pickled gherkin and again she moaned getting them out the jar because the pickle stunk! Maybe not quite the right job I feel BUT I am glad I stayed as like I said the food was good.

Have been using this place for years, never had a problem until recently, some weeks can't fault it, but then I end up with recooked chips. Am starting to think of using somewhere else for my weekly chip night.

Sat in and had the Pensioners Special and it was a very generous portion. The fish was huge! Great value for money and very clean. The staff were really friendly and helpful.

Food is absolutely quality prices are reasonable and no oil dripping chips like in some places this will always be our go to chippy love the food highly recommend.

i went there on tuesday! there was a girl and a boy all they did was mess around! worse customer service! i normally come on wednesday and the staff on wednesday are amazing but today it was rubbish i’m disappointed in this place the two girls on wednesday are normally chatty, bubbly and lovely. today i didn’t get that experience. The food is okay but the service normally is 10/10 but this tuesday i give it -1/10 disappointed.

the day we went and got fish and chips for the four of was really nice, the only downsides are that workers with long hair should really be wearing hair nets so hair dont go into food

Just had a takeaway from crewkerne fish bar ,we phoned up and ordered to be picked up for 6-00 ,food wasn't ready untill 6-30 ,it was very overpriced and quite honestly a shambles and it wasn't the nicest either .I definitely won't be going again .

Completely disappointed and disgusted food was not great staff did not have hair back and one girl had really long hair and it was down and going in to food cooking staff go outside the back door smoke then go straight back in without washing hands horrible use to love this shop never crispy batter like it should be all soggy

What an incredible place!!. I had a tiff with the missus, decided on a drive out. As a peace offering I thought I would get us a chippy as we haven't had one for years. Called into the Crewkerne Fish Bar as it was empty & was served by a fantastic bloke. Put it this way, I was so impressed with the service & the friendliness there is no way I would go anywhere else in the future. Thank you so much & very much appreciated what you gave us yesterday. Top man & a credit to your business!!

First Time going here. Never again. Fancied fish and chips as we were on break and was gobsmacked at how much it cost!! £17.40 for 2 fish and chips with coke 2 bottles. Says on the board £4.80 for fish and chips my maths are right that's £9.60 for food so the coke cost me £7? Imagine my surprise at the price. Either the boards are correct... Or I've been ripped off. Chips were not that tasty fish ok but for that price. Never again am I going in there.

Food was OK, although chips were cold, lots of youngster's behind the counter including 1 very rude young lady taking the orders! The staff used to be very efficient and friendly so not sure what's happened. 😒😒😒

Well we bought large cod medium cod large chips and curry sauce with large peas. When got back chips were cold and burnt like been left. Curry sauce was actually gravy. Fish was very nice, but burnt chips didn't enjoy.

Honestly what can I say...fish and chips where amazing as always!!! Every Friday we go there every Friday at around 1.00 fast service the staff there are extremely friendly!! And overall brilliant chip shop!!!

I rang an placed an order so I didn't wait around because I had to be in work, was told order number 8 around 15.min so waited around in the que for a further 10min after arriving and watched order number 9/10/11//12 come and go so what is the point in a number system or placing a phone order when you still have to wait behind people that have just Arrived and I only ordered chips and a beefburger or maybe that's why I wasn't being served becouse others was placing bigger orders ?

Normally they are very good !!fish lovely chips lovely , but last week chips tasted like they had been heated up , rubbery , cod was not cod , coley fish it tasty like , i had to through mine away , my parents did the same , funny thing is my parent had not known mine where not good , as i took mine back to yeovil to eat at home , i delivered to them in crewkerne , so until i said the next day they said the same , sad about this because my parrents have always enjoyed there cod and chips , may be they ran out and used up stuff they had , in that case you should be told and have a chose to purchase them or not !! The time was after 6.15 pm on friday ?

Not the best but pretty damn good. Fish was a little rubbery in places but otherwise very good.

Simply the best in town and the wider district ! Very efficient service just watching them preparing and serving is a pleasure and a lesson in hardwork amazing team and great value meals.Waiting time for non pre-ordered meals is very short due to the professional way every order is dealt with which is a shame I could watch them all day 😊

I been going to this fish and chip shop for sometime now but I have to say I will have to find another the last four times I have been which is weekly the cod dried up an could not eat it , what a waste off money so disappointed. The portion size is great tho.

Had Jumbo sausage and chips, the jumbo sausage was tasty, the chips,however, while you get lots, are so thin that theyre tough . Some are ok but most arent, either thin and tough or just bits . You get so many you can pick out some decent ones but thats not the point! Disappointing , when youre looking forward to it for your tea because youre hungry its a let down!
