West Bay Tea Rooms in West Dorset

My wife and I stopped off at 'West Bay Tea Rooms' after an enjoyable Saturday morning shopping the markets in Bridport. We went for the Cream Tea and the two fruit scones were freshly made, generous in size and delicious. Jam and clotted cream was provided in generous portion sizes too compared to what you get in many tea rooms. The staff are very lovely and the ambience was nice too. Highly recommended.

We were a group of 43 people and they accommodated us totally, a trip worth taking and absolutely great scones. Thank you for the experience

Dashed in here for hot drinks after being caught in a downpour. Nothing was too much trouble, staff were friendly, polite and just lovely. Food was AMAZING, our group had a variety of cake/sandwiches/ savoury etc and all of us were delighted. As someone who bakes cakes myself, as I find most shop cakes not up to scratch, I can hand on heart say this was one of the nicest cakes I ve had for some time! Would definitely come back, and we are in fact hoping to pop by before we go for some take away cake! 😋

Absolute gem of a coffee shop. My husband and myself orderd a cream tea each and for the price we paid at £6.95 for 2 scones, clotted cream ( huge amount) ,loads of jam and pot of tea it was the best we have ever had. If you are visiting in that area you have to go, we will be back

Busy little place. Food portions are very generous and the tea cakes are amazing. The ladies are lovely and can’t do enough to help. Definitely rate it.

Popped in for a cup of tea and was thrilled to be able to have a slice of gluten free Dorset apple cake with clotted cream, absolutely stunning and great value for money! Would highly recommend and will be back to try their gluten free scones next time. So lovely to have a choice of lovely GF cake 🎂

Such a shame the service doesn't match the food! They had a cream tea offer with one scone or two, we wanted a scone each so chose the 2 scone option but were then told we're not allowed to share the scones and had to order separate if we wanted one each, the cost was £6.50 for 2 or separately £5.20 each, not only does this confuse people it makes paying customers feel like they're being ripped off! A couple then came in and asked if they were still serving breakfast, the staff member sarcastically said "no not at this time" then sat down to eat her lunch of cheese and beans on toast.....is this not a breakfast? Whilst a guy on another table was eating bacon!! Covid hurt a lot of businesses,prices have increased and when you have decent people wiling to pay and support your local business, it's always nice to be nice! Or even polite would have been ok

Lovely Cream Tea, home made scones and plenty of jam and clotted cream. We had to take one lot home as there was so much. Provided us with a box for the scone and little pots for the remaining cream/jam. Nice touch. Nice place and lovely friendly staff. Do not pass this by.

Booked afternoon team here for the wife’s birthday and have to say the food and service was amazing. Highly recommended.

Lovely tea room with a good selection of food and cakes. We had the ploughmans and a jacket potato with cheese and beans. Good service and large portions. Handy location next to car park. They also sold salad dressings, jams, chutneys and biscuits to take away. You are also able to pre-order afternoon tea (min 24 hours notice)

Excellent lunch. We chose this cafe based on reviews and it didn’t disappoint. We all had fabulous food. It was a perfect place to go prior to walking up the cliff. The only downside is that we were too full after our mains to enjoy a delicious looking piece of cake!

Mother’s Day afternoon Tea - excellent choice of savoury and sweet, wouldn’t change any of it. Liked the added touch of fresh strawberries and grapes and the little bag of fudge to take home. Hope they do it next year!!!

An excellent find with some of the best scones you’ll find. The Dorset Vinney particularly good. The soup was equally excellent. Staff very friendly despite being busy. Overall, a real find and worth the walk from the main centre.

We’ve had an extremely generous afternoon tea for two, delivered. Generously filled sandwiches with delicious fillings, large sausage roll, large scone with plenty of jam and clotted cream, strawberries, cakes, bottle of juice, tea bag included. The whole thing could not be faulted!

We popped into the tea rooms on the off chance, and were seated straight away, with a smile and explanation as to how to order. I had a cream tea, that came with two scones, plenty of jam and clotted cream and a pot of tea for one, priced under £5 for that. My sons both had their special hot chocolate and loved it. All in all, great good and an enjoyable time spent.

We visited this tea room Sunday 25th October and we a absolutely loved it! We didn’t book ahead and got seated within a few minutes, despite lower capacity than usual. You can call ahead and book a table if you want to, which is a good idea as the tea room isn’t huge, so book to avoid disappointment!The tables are spread a good distance apart, hand sanitiser is available as you walk in and you can check in with the track and trace app which is really handy.The staff were all extremely friendly and welcoming, service was speedy and the food was amazing, one of the best cream teas we’ve ever had! You get a choice of plain or fruit scones (which are huge!), these were still warm when they came out and were accompanied by a mountain of clotted cream, strawberry jam and a pot of tea. We struggled through as the portions were so generous, and left with full bellies and smiles on our faces. We would definitely book a table to come back if we were in the area again.

We had a fabulous takeaway afternoon tea. It was ready and waiting when my husband went to pick it up. Service great & the afternoon tea fab. It contained a bottle of juice, 3 different type of sandwiches, personally wasn’t keen on the coronation chicken, but the cakes were fabulous especially the scones.

The two people with a normal sandwich and cream tea had a great lunch I on the other hand would say if you are gluten free or have any intolerances I would avoid this place . The cream tea was inedible and when quizzed on this I was informed yes ‘it’s gluten free ‘ ‍♂️they did change it once I had suggested that so we have a little bit of success .

My partner, myself & another couple booked a table for 4 for afternoon tea. My friend's partner & I had the savoury cream tea which was red onion & cheese scone with cream cheese & a what appeared to be a mild curry chutney; was delicious. It came with1 warm scone so my friend's partner ordered another, which he could not eat. The other 2 had the sweet cream tea; all were delicious & great service; thoroughly enjoyed it

My husband and I ordered a savoury and sweet cream tea. Both were absolutely delicious. You have to have a cream tea when you come to Devon, so if you're looking for the perfect cream tea, then I highly recommend West Bay Tea Rooms. The ladies who served us were really lovely as well.

Sat on outside table, my husband ordered a cream tea and a cup of tea, it arrived cream tea in a box and paper cups for the tea, the notice on the table did say takeaway service, which we became aware of after we had ordered. I asked the waiter why we had to have it in a box, while the table behind us had food served on plates, he was very sarcastic and asked had we not heard of corona virus and the table behind had food, when is a cream tea not food?i told him even if you sit outside at Morrisons you still get a proper plate and mug,he then asked how many places had I eaten since covid started, another sarcastic remark and if we had eaten inside we could have had a plate.

There was a knock on the front door and there stood a smartly pinnied lady with a Father's Day treat, ordered by an up country daughter! Open the box and WOW! An array of goodies to tempt the glutton within anyone which turned out to taste even better than they looked, which did not seem possible! Thank-you so much, 'Team WBTR'. Presentation, range, textures, flavours and home delivery service with a smile; gold stars all round.

Came on a cold day and got amazing tea and scones, The staff were able to accommodate raspberry jam rather than strawberry, felt thoroughly happy and stuffed.

Pleasant on a miserable day. Came in for coffee and cake and both were well provided for. Service was ok - a bit begrudging - but the cake and coffee were good.

Friend got shouted at to sit down and wait for table service. I had a tuna sandwich which was very salty and not edible. I mentioned a couple of times but I was told there was nothing they could do, so I had to pay £6.70 for a sandwich which I couldn't eat. Such a shame because I used to like this place. Will not return.

Delicious visit to the West Bay Tea Rooms, definitely worth you dropping in particularly if you are after the South West delicacy of a Cream Tea! Very friendly staff

They are not trying to reinvent the wheel, but what they do they do very well. All seems to be home made and we were more than happy with our choices (soup and a baked tatty with coronation chicken). The menu also helpfully lists all allergens for those that require it.

Lovely food in this cafe, where the staff are welcoming and very hospitable. We had baguettes packed full (bacon for my husband, and egg mayonnaise for me). They were delicious! The accompanying salad was fresh. When we ran out of tea in our pot we asked for hot water and low milk and the waitress did it straight away. The food came promptly but was clearly fresh. We were really pleased we chose to eat here. The windows were streamed up because of the cold day but don't be put off, inside is tidy, clean and very friendly. If we lived locally we'd be there all the time. Thank you for a lovely lunch.

Popped in here for lunch on a very cold morning . Service very fast , place looked lovely , very friendly . but sadly our panini ‘s let it down , we had the Mediterranean veg and cheese panini , the cheese was melted but the veg was cold , the texture funny and well the taste odd , my friend said hers tasted funny so removed it all , I said that’s how it’s meant to be and I ate it !!! How wrong was I , it really upset my tummy later that day , I was quite bad , not sure if the veg was frozen and not properly decorated or something but it made me bad , my friend had belly ache as ate some , but I ate it all and was quite poorly . So sadly not a successful visit so prob will not visit again . I’m sorry to mark you down as such lovely staff and great cakes , but not good on this occasion sorry .

Stopped here for lunch on a cold November day. Lovely warm room, friendly service and wide range of offerings on the menu. We chose bacon baguettes with tea. Could not believe how much back bacon they managed to cram into the baguettes, simple salad to go with the baguettes. Great value.

Came here last weekend for lunch and had baked potato with salad and home made coleslaw. Portions were generous and good value. Waitresses were really friendly and the place was clean and cosy.

We had seen the cream tea advertised outside and decided to visit after a day out. It was about 4pm and another couple entered before us, it looked suspiciously like they were closing as floor was being mopped etc but we were told no there was drinks and cakes available,cream tea no problem.

Having read the positive reviews online, we were keen to visit West Bay Tea Rooms, and it was well worth it! The tea rooms were lovely inside and the staff were very friendly. It was pleasing to see several vegetarian choices and the menu catered for all tastes/appetites. Between us, we had the homity pie and a panini (the biggest panini I’d ever seen or eaten!) Both were very nice and great value for money. We just about managed a cream tea afterwards - the scones with jam & cream were delicious! It’s easy to see why these tea rooms have won an award! Would definitely recommend eating here if you’re in West Bay.

We visited for tea and cake and were not disappointed. Slices of homemade cake were generous and I was impressed that decaf tea was available (not always the case). Pots of tea were served with hot water ‘top ups’. Tables were cleared quickly and staff were friendly.

It is easy to walk past the West Bay Tea Rooms en route to the buzz of West Bay and all that it offers. However, on our first visit to the tea rooms on Saturday we soon realised we had been missing a hidden gem, On arrival we were advised to take a seat and our orders were taken a couple of minutes later. We chose paninis, tuna/cheddar/spring onion and bacon/brie/cranberry, both of which were larger than expected, piping hot and ram-packed with delicious filling and complimented with a fresh crispy side salad.. We had large lattes which again were hotter than hot and of high quality. The premises were spotlessly clean and the staff were most welcoming and super efficient. So much so that we returned the following morning for Sunday breakfast after a dog walk on the beach before returning home. We both enjoyed bacon/sausage baguettes and lattes. Again the baguette fillings were of the finest quality and of ample quantity that nothing more was eaten before evening. The service once more was most efficient which was a little surprising given the tea rooms were bursting at the seams with customers who were enjoying a short break from their coach trip en route to Bournemouth.

I had read good things about this place and it definitely didn’t disappoint. The cream tea is amazing and we also had the carrot and Dorset apple cake which was equally as good. Lovely friendly service.

Really loved the calm and relaxed atmosphere of this tea room, which is situated right by the big car park just before entering Bridport, close to the Car Boot Sale. If you don't like the sometimes heaving crowds in West Bay Harbour, this tea room is an excellent escape!!

Situated right next to a large car park as you enter West Bay from Bridport, this tea room is great. Many wander by on their way to the quayside, and, perhaps visit the Cornish bakery there. In my view that would be a mistake. Don’t get me wrong, the Cornish bakery is good, but more expensive. The cream tea at the West Bay Tea Room offers two scones, fruit or plain, jam and cream, with a pot of tea for a great price, £5.50 at time of visit. The jam and cream portion is fantastic, and two cups of tea from the pot. The tea room is clean, modern and the staff friendly. Don’t wander by, or if you have parked at the quayside, wander around the corner, 50 yards, and visit this lovely restaurant, you will not be disappointed.

My wife and I walked around West Bay looking for a bite to eat and found this tea room/restaurant near the large car park as you come into West Bay, very friendly staff and the food is excellent, great range of lite bites and savouries plus one of the best cream tea's we have ever had..

I have been to the West Bay tea rooms several times and I have always received delicious, well-presented food and service with a smile, Good choice for vegetarians. Menu clearly states allergens and it makes a refreshing change to have some nut-free options in the cake selection. The millionaires shortbread is a particular fave. Love the selection of Clipper teas and your also able to buy teas and other condiments from local suppliers.

We stopped here on the way back into West Bay as we had read many positive reviews. They were not wrong. We ordered the tuna, cheese & spring onion panini and the pulled pork, BBQ sauce & apple baguette. Both were very satisfying and generously filled and came with a fresh if basic side salad.

Had lunch here today with friends and the food was amazing! Best bacon and Brie panini ever, and the savoury cream tea was delicious! Cheese scone, tomato chutney and cream cheese - a perfect combo.

A nice lunch menu just the right amount, well presented and we ate the Pork Bagel with apple very nice with a pot of tea great value

I can honestly say that was the best jacket potato I have ever had. A very large potato and plenty of salad. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

Stopped her for lunch on a very wet Sunday. Friendly staff, clean and tidy and a wide menu. We chose bacon baguettes and could not believe how much back bacon they managed to cram into the baguette - really great value for money. Nice pot of tea as well. Highly recommended.

A lovely warm welcome awaits at this café and the service is excellent. We had two large bowls of genuinely home made soup which were absolutely delicious and very reasonably priced. A small place but with a big heart!

We found this place after looking on trip advisor and really enjoyed a cream tea. It was a very generous portion with plenty of jam and loads of clotted cream. The staff are all friendly and sociable and we left with cakes for the journey home. Its's only 100 metres from the harbour side - do make the effort to look them out! You won't be disappointed.

On the hottest of days, when tempers are easily frayed, it was lovely to come across this tea room on a corner. Baguettes, pasties and salads all hit the spot and staff were not only helpful but thoughtful and kind with assistance offered and chatting about the impact filming Broadchurch had on the town even though they must have had the same conversation hundreds of times before.

Stopped for two coffees and a tea and it's all came to around five pounds. That's so cheap! Lovely tea room and the food was reasonable.

We went for cream tea at the West Bay Tea Rooms on our last day in West Bay after reading the reviews. It was absolutely fantastic. The scones were warm and the cream and jam were really tasty. It was really reasonably priced too. Definitely worth a visit.

My husband and I visited the tea room today. We have been here once before and our second visit did not disappoint. Hubby ordered cream tea and he said the scones are just about the best he has eaten. I had the coffee and walnut cake which was very good. This tea room does not accept dogs which we really appreciate as we find so many people allow their dogs to sit on chairs and up at tables in cafes it's not pleasant if you don't own a dog.

We stopped for a light lunch and were not disappointed. We all chose the Higgidgy Pie and a Latte. It was superb. They have a wide menu so we will call again to sample other delights. Service was excellent and the cafe was very clean. Definitely recommend if you are in West Bay.

Visited on a rainy Easter weekend with my wife and toddler. Shared an amazing cream tea (plenty for two- big scones and lashings of clotted cream and jam) with my wife and got a kiddies sandwich for our daughter. Everything freshly made and really tasty. Friendly, helpful service and great food helped make an otherwise dreary day very enjoyable.

This tea room is on the approach road into West Bay. Therefore there is no coast views from here but is still very popular. The reason why is clear - the service, food, friendliness and cleanliness make it a very pleasant visit. 4 adults and 2 young children were well catered for. Highchairs were available, as were children's food portions. The variety of food was enough to please all.

Even though I’ve lived here nearly twenty years I’d never been in this place before so as daughter and boyfriend visiting from London and wanting to take elderly mother out we decided to try this place as it was very local. We had a range of food from jacket potatoes to paninis and baguettes. We were all served with our food in a decent time. All the portions were a very good size and tasted fresh and delicious. Prices very reasonable. So much so that we all decided to have a cream tea for afters. Not disappointed at all. The scones were huge (I wish mine rose that much) with a choice of plain or fruit but the best part was that this is one of the rare cream teas you actually get two scones for under £6. Most places you only get one! We all left very full up and the whole bill for five of us for 5 lunches, drinks and 4 cream teas was only £59 which I think was very fair for the quality and quantity received. Highly recommended
