We stayed here for 1 night whilst walking the Cotswold Way. The property is now run by the White Hart next door and is in reality in need of complete internal renovation. Whether that is possible or not I do not know. The rooms are dated, the curtains don’t fit properly and whilst it was clean and the bed comfortable the surroundings of the shower mouldy. The only saving grace for us was that we were at the back of the building and had a balcony. Overall, it offered a resting place for the night but wouldn’t want to stay for longer.

Used to visit this venue quite often, great food and location and for me it’s just down the road. Seems now it only caters for events (No 5 will be happy with that), looks like they are aligned with the Royal Oak. Whilst the Royal Oak is in a wonderful location the menu is questionable. Sincerely hope The Wesley opens its doors during Spring through to Autumn. Regards

It is not very practical for parking. The library car park is some way from the accommodation but you can leave your car in the square after the restrictions are off until 8am with 2 hours parking after that. The room was comfortable enough but small The fire escape was in the room with FINAL EXIT painted on the ceiling which we did not like. The breakfast was fine and we found the pub next door has good food but best to book in advance as it is busy at the weekend.

Went in for a coffee. Lady in charge gave impression that we were an inconvenience as there were no other customers (around mid-day). Coffee wasn’t great, cups were small and price far too high at £4/cup. We had a much nicer coffee in the garden of the antiques centre just along the road a few days ago so highly recommend there. Cheaper too!

We ate at the wonderful Wesley House on two occasions during our stay in Winchcombe this October. We were actually staying at another accommodation in the town but found this place to be far superior in every way, The service was very friendly and efficient, and the food wonderful and great value for money. One of the many reasons we did not eat where we were staying was because the background music was terrible, far too loud and intrusive. Restaurants and bars that feel they really must play background, should ask The Wesley House how it is done. We are members of Pipedown - an organisation that reports back on the scourge of background music, and we will make sure that your establishment gets a jolly good write up in our next edition, we will send you a link when the article in published. We will certainly be booking to stay with you on our next visit to Winchcombe.

We were a group of friends who meet up once or twice a year for a long walk followed by a really good meal together. The Cotswold Way fulfilled the first requirement; Thw Wesley more than met the second. Eleven people must be a challenge and the chef and staff coped admirably. The meal was just perfect for both hungry walkers who want to fill up and discerning ‘foodies’ among us who are discerning diners. We all agreed the meal was absolutely delicious and a much, much higher standard than we expected. The service was excellent and atmosphere relaxed and informal. Lovely real fire when you walk in too, we would unhesitatingly recommend this restaurant to visitors to Winchcombe.

My wife and I both had Partridge, she’s French and likes good food (as do I), in her words it was “fantastic”. In fact all three courses were superb, the duck parfait was so smooth it was almost like foie grois, the scallops delicious, the chocolate tort superbly rich but balanced by the salted caramel ice cream and the cheese board had five cheeses and three types of crackers. I can’t find enough superlatives, just go there!!

Today I ate two very good quality courses for lunch. The smoked salmon starter was delicious with mini capers and a devilishly hot horseradish cream. The roast cod with buttery potatoes and a light cream tomato sauce was really good. Many of the party opted for the roast beef which was tasty though difficult to cut due to dull knives. I tried the ravioli and was unimpressed, drastically under cooked and bland...needs improving team. Altogether a very pleasant visit, thank you.

We were very excited to go to this restaurant as part of out stay at Buckland Manor Hotel (separate review for that experience). The ambience is quintessential Cotswolds charm. One is presented with wine lists and menus to peruse and they then take your order in one of the delightful lounges before ushering you into the beautiful dining room. A carpeted, elegant room which allows for a delightfully quiet dining experience - rare these days in many places with hard furnishings, loud (awful) music and raucous clientele. What unfolded however did not meet expectations. The menu was limited, consisting of 4 options for each of the 3 courses on offer. There were 4 of us so we sampled everything on offer. It was all excellent in terms of taste, BUT the food was tepid at best and the portion sizes ludicrously small - especially for the price. I thought perhaps we had ordered from the children’s menu, but these portions would not have been enough food to satisfy even a child. The service was also rather limited. There were only three other tables of guests and the 3 waiters were nowhere to be seen much of the time. This left us to pour our own drinks and at one point having to wait for a waiter to appear so we could get the remaining white wine served - they had not left the bottle near our table for us to help ourselves. The cheese course was supposed to feature 6 cheeses but only 5 were presented as the 6th had run out and no substitute was offered - the price didn’t change despite the depletion. This restaurant and chef may well be dreaming of a Michelin star but they need to meet some standard of excellence in value for money ad well as taste of food. This might be the first time you need to bring a doggy bag of food with you into the restaurant as you will definitely not have food left on your plate to warrant leaving with one.

Great little cafe, with some gluten free cakes too (and not just the usual brownie). Plenty of dairy alternatives available. Portions are generous and the stuff was friendly and welcoming. I would come back again.

Great food, great service, what more can I say. Well worth the drive from Cheltenham to eat at The Hobnails. See you again soon.
