We had Sunday Lunch to celebrate our Wedding Anniversary. I have only paid more than the cost here once in my life for Sunday Lunch ( I am 69 and eat out regularly) but this was real value for money. Every course was a treat, Roast Beef was superb, Roast Potatoes excellent, Yorkshire Pudding Great, even the vegetables were special. Service was superb. The Dining Room is a delight. We were able to have after Lunch coffee on the outside terrace overlooking the glorious gardens. I have wanted to try Luton Hoo for a number of years. I am really pleased that I finally had the chance to enjoy it. As I said it is not cheap but worth every penny.

We were assigned to stay at Luton Hoo resort after our flight was delayed. On our last night we decided that fine dining in The Wernher Restaurant would be our choice. What a good choice it was. The restaurant located in the Manor House--- once one of the grandest estates in the UK---is simply grand. You are swept back to the elegance of " Downton Abbey". The menu is extensive and has a unique flair. You can choose a la cart or a Price fixed " Tasting Experience" for 75 pounds. I chose the Tasting option and my lady chose a la cart. All courses were served by a duo of waiters how were highly knowledgeble and explained each course as it was presented. Our Team of Ahmed and Jigar were Brilliant. My courses were, Duck Ragu, Salmon and Tuna Sashimi, Lamb Crepinette, and Snowdonian Cheddar Souffle. My lady had the Devonshire Chicken. All courses were superb and creative. Head Chef Matt Long is to be congratulated. Magnificent experience and absolutley the best lamb I have ever tasted in all my years. The wine list is solid with some fabulous values. We had a Chilean Red wine for 44 pounds which was Delicious. Whether you are staying at the Resort or live in the area. The Wernher is a MUST. Bravo. Brilliant.

Went for afternoon tea, service friendly. Tea selection good but very average aray of afternoon tea goodies. The cakes looked great but the Victoria sponge was solid the other pastries were lack luster. The hotel itself is tired and needs a bit of a refresh. Beautiful grounds, history is so interesting. Worth a visit ... yes!

Had tea for two yesterday a present for my 60th birthday, after being seated we had to wait about 15 until being asked what we would like to drink we ordered a tea abd a black coffer. The tea came up 10 minutes later, we waited nearly 1 hour for the coffee after asking how long it would be, the food was nothing special, the scones and cakes were hard, not a good experience and feel very disappointed, and to crown it all had bad stomachs since. Don't think we will be returning.

I thought all the staff were absolutely wonderful; from the lovely doorman, Chris, to Pooja and the staff in the restaurant - highly professional. That said, I felt sadly disappointed at the food which was really average and priced at an eye-wateringly expensive £65 for Easter Sunday lunch. Not something I would do again.

So this is a five star hotel with this restaurant offering 'fine dining'. Well in my opinion the offerings are more gastro pub than fine dining and the menu just doesnt tie in with what you would expect in the lovely surroundings. I had houmous with flatbread and ribeye steak. The starter was average at best and the steak dry with an odd grainy texture to it. My friend had scallops and a burger. The scallops were drowned in a very spicy sauce and the burger was dry. There was no decaf coffee available either. Such a great disappoint in such a lovely hotel - wont be returning.

Lovely food - we got the fish and chips and the truffle Mac and cheese (love to do half and half) and both were delightful - especially the fish and chips! Lovely staff - our waitress Angelika was very attentive! Only downside is we weren’t that hungry so had atleast half of our max and cheese left that we would’ve loved to have had boxed up and takeaway but unfortunately they said they couldn’t do that!

This is truly the most magnificent hotel with lots of history attached to it aswell as being a blockbuster film location! The restaurant is amazing with marble panels everywhere, beautiful chandeliers and tapestries. The service is second to none! Very attentive well turned out staff! But then there’s the food! At best I would say it’s average and doesn’t align with the surroundings or atmosphere! Being an old English Country Estate you would expect some top quality trad English dishes or a comprehensive a la carte menu with items such as sole menuir and chateaubriand but sadly it’s more like a pub grub deal but not as good as pub grub sadly!

What an earth has happened!!?? we used to be a member of this hotel until 2020 when the service really started going down hill however even though the service was bad we recalled the food in this beautiful restaurant was always fantastic. My husband decided to book a table for Valentines with a special Valentines menu with champagne, oysters and Chateaubriand sounded great........on our arrival there was no doorman, nobody to greet us anywhere. We waited to be seated in the restaurant...it was full yet we only saw 3 staff to serve everyone. We sat down and were given a menu without much interaction. The waiter walked away...we were both very shocked to see a very plain menu consisting of steaks, risotto, salad and a beef wellington...we called the manager to ask where the Valentines menu was which they advertised for Valentines day when booking, to be told it was sold out and the manager just walked off, no apology or explanation, he didnt even seem to care!! We pondered on this for a few moments and decided we would not stay as this was not the wonderful menu offered on booking, was just plain pub food and clearly the service had become even worse! We got up from out table and waited by the door without any staff even noticing. We explained to the manager we would not be staying as we did not want to eat from this menu and he just said 'okay'...again no apology, showing no concern for the customers or willingness to be in his job or do it well. Our journey here takes 50 minutes and 50 minutes home so we spent most of our Valentines evening in the car followed by toast when we arrived home....lucky our love is strong but what a complete waste of time......not sure how this hotel will stay open; what was once a stunning restaurant with ambience, sommelier, fine dining and friendly staff has turned into a haunting sham for this wonderful mansion with so much charm and history to offer if managed by the right people. Do not waste your money or think you will get a special meal here; there are plenty of much better places to eat and stay not too far away.

I visited here with my fiancé as hotel guests and we ate at this restaurant on two consecutive nights and had breakfast on two consecutive mornings. The breakfast experience was absolutely fine both in terms of the food and the service. The evening dining experience was lacking however. We had high expectations from this 5 star hotel, as its top restaurant. On the first night we both ordered the Hoo Burger, I felt something was off when we weren’t asked how we wanted it cooked. Mine was totally overdone, dry and brick hard, my fiancés was ok however and cooked medium. The restaurant was quiet and our waitress was friendly, however at no point were we asked how our food was, either during or after the meal. At £20 for a burger I felt it was very overpriced. On the second night the restaurant was much busier, we booked for 8.30 and on arrival were told our table wasn’t ready, we waited about 10 mins to be seated. Once seated we were asked if we wanted water and we ordered this and also said we were ready to order food, we were told that our waiter would be over soon, he didn’t appear for 30 mins, we were starving by this point. We finally got our food at 9:45pm and whilst it was lovely, I think the tablecloth would have tasted lovely at this point! Again no one seemed to care. Whist this would be acceptable for your average place to eat, I would expect so much more from a restaurant of this calabre (and price tag). I think as hotel guests we were a captive audience so it wasn’t important to go above and beyond in any way. Such a shame.

My husband and I just had the most wonderful birthday lunch . Firstly the setting was beautiful, and service was impeccable. Binu and his team made us feel very welcome and did everything with a smile and attention to detail. The food was exceptional, we had the Sunday lunch and chose the beef. Beef was tender and cooked with perfection, the sides were perfect, and we could not be any happier. As it was my birthday , Binu and his team came singing Happy birthday, which was a lovely surprise, and the happy birthday gesture was very much appreciated, so thank you to you and your team. We went to the Wernher at Luton Hoo for a very special occasion. We had been before many years ago so we're expecting a super experience. On arrival we were left to our own devices to try and figure out what to do. We were early for our dinner booking and there were no members of staff around to provide assistance. Eventually we just walked into the restaurant uninvited. At this point we were finally met be a member of staff who showed us to our table. From the disappointing start though when the food started to arrive we could tell this was not ordinary cuisine in fat it was EXTRAORDINARY. What a treat for the taste buds even if I couldn't pronounce pretty much all we ate. It was delicious to say the least. Not for the faint hearted if you expect inexpensive, it is far from that but as a special, one off occasion well worth it. Wernher just needs to consider first timers who can be left confused, frustrated and a little angry not knowing the protocols to follow.

We decided to dine in this grand hall as a Christmas treat. Upon reserving a table, we were not informed that they were only offering a seven course tasting menu. Priced at £75 a head, it would have been good to know in advance. There was no accompanying wine flight for the menu either. When looking at the menu, there is a huge variety of dishes available. 4x4 matrix of options - completely over the top and too complicated. The dishes themselves tasted great. Lots of attention to detail and flavour. What was lacking was the front of house - no story telling, no description or detail about how the dishes were created when the plates were presented. The waiting staff were pleasant enough. However, for the venue and type of menu and experience they are trying to create to warrant charging the prices, they are severely lacking what is needed.

We had an awful dinner here whilst staying at Luton Hoo for the weekend. Whilst staff were kind and friendly, the food is some of the worst I’ve had in a restaurant marketed/priced as being “upmarket”. Everything we ate was pretty flavourless despite presented nicely. I ate some Arancini that just tasted of nothing. Also had a tomato and goats cheese salad and the tomatoes were chilled and again utterly flavourless while the goats cheese was overwhelming and the entire dish was off balance. Even the bread we were offered was stale. Such a disappointing dining experience at a huge price tag. I would strongly recommend people avoid

Had been here several times for Afternoon Tea which was great so decided to go for dinner to celebrate our anniversary. On arrival we were asked if we would like a drink and shown to a large public room where it was just us which was surprising for a Saturday evening. Lovely ambience and our table was overlooking the grounds and we were spied upon by a gorgeous peacock. We found the menu very disappointing. Limited in choice. The rolls offered were hard, and it was served with I think truffle butter which we did not like. We decided not to order a starter and went straight to the main course. Apart from Lamb there was no other meat. My husband ordered this and I ordered the Turbot. The lamb was tough and he ended up leaving most of it. My fish was tasteless, but overall with the sauce was okay. I ordered the summer vegetables. These were raw and I could not cut them with a knife so gave up. For dessert I had the roast peach but this was okay but no wow factor. The meal seemed very brown!! Service was good but no-one checked if we liked the meal. I like the history and ambience of the building, but would not go back again for dinner which was very expensive and was certainly not worth it. Stars are for the ambience!

To be told with precisely 26 hours notice that the Werner restaurant is to be closed and our booking moved to the Brasserie (which in our opinion is not at the standard, from both an ambience and menu perspective) is totally unacceptable. This was to be a 92nd birthday celebration with a guest flying in from Australia who wanted to host us somewhere fitting for the occasion. To say we are devasted is an understatement. So far I have had no return call from anyone in a position of responsibility to give me any suitable explanation. Now to see if somewhere else is available to host our meal with just 24 hours notice. Be warned - it's one cancellation rule for us and another for them!

Really poor experience. It was our first time in this lovely restaurant but right from the start there were worrying signs. It took us 20 minutes to order a bottle of bubbles in the lounge bar. We then went into the restaurant for Sunday Lunch. Starters were good and well served. The roasts then arrived which were just about warm. No one came for ages to ask if the food was OK so we just ate it. We mentioned when plates were collected that we weren't happy but nothing much was said. We ordered the desserts and coffee at the same time. Coffee's arrived luke warm and the desserts never did arrive before our taxi came to collect us. We raised the issues with the restaurant manager who made a complete hash of dealing with our compliant. They did take some money off the bill but I wouldn't go back and I wouldn't recommend this place for the high prices charged the service doesn't match.

Haven't eaten at the Wernher restaurant for a few years and was really looking forward to our meal in the lovely grand old house, having had very good experiences in the past. We had arranged to meet our friends in the bar an hour before our 7pm booking, for a drink first. The service in the bar was slow, even though there appeared to be more staff than guests, but maybe they were taking drinks orders through to the restaurant. Our friends who had arrived five minutes after our drinks order had been taken, were left waiting for their drinks for at least 10 minutes. In the end, he had to go and remind the staff that they were still waiting for theirs. Then the wrong order came out! Not a good start. We were seated in the restaurant nice and promptly. A friendly polite chap came to take our drinks orders but for some reason, he disappeared very quickly after only one drink order given so we then had to wait until he returned with that order before we could order others. Most of the food was very good, although my Barnsley lamb chop was mostly fatty and therefore chewy but the rest of the courses were good. Unfortunately there was no cheese and biscuits on the menu which was rather surprising for such a top end establishment. When it came to coffee, we ordered two floater coffees and a calypso coffee. Only to be told they "didn't have all the ingredients" to make any of them. Which was interesting because ten minutes prior, we had seen one being taken to another table. All in all, not the same experience we were so looking forward to and had received in the past Would we return. NO.

Our table was situated with clear view of the back of house facilities shielded by a screen. . My first course of Crab was gritting and had shell in the meat. despite being at £5.00 premium . Myself and my wife’s beef very tasty but reminiscent of beef and two veg ? Again at £8.00 additional premium . My Pimm,s jelly was similar to a giant Harribu ! We have dined here many times over the years, and have always had enjoyable meals and nice experiences. However, on this occasion we were overcharged on the bill. I didn't notice it on the night, just paid the bill, but we were charged for a fourth course that we didn't have. I called the hotel the following day (12/06/22) and was told that a manager would call me back to discuss it. Now mistakes happen, and thats not a problem, but it is how they are dealt with that's the important thing. The manger did not call me back, I left two further voicemails, but again no reply? I then emailed the general manager who apologised and said he would pass my details to another manager who would contact me, you guessed it-No contact! Nearly 10 days later and another email to the GM, I finally get a call from another manager (22/06/22) who apologised, and agreed to refund me. I would have thought at the very least, that some sort of good will gesture should have been offered for all the wasted time, and inconvenience I was caused. Unfortunately that wasn't forthcoming.

On arrival we were directed to our table (he pointed to our table) however my husband had to manoeuvre between two serving stands which were being used for nearby tables .Then when we ordered drinks the waitress had to go to another room 3 times to find out what soft drinks were available. A very limited choice was offered having only one drink available for our diabetic being diet coke which he doesn't like, so he had to settle for water. The 1st course was left on the stand in the sauceboat allowing a skin to form while the staff chatted. When the mains arrived, we had difficulty understanding the waitress, so asked her to just leave them. The original waitress then removed the covers from the 4 fish dishes before going to get the 2 chicken meals by which time the fish dishes had cooled We were amazed with the dessert choices for diabetics, with the only option being cheese and biscuits and although tasty, carried a surcharge of £4. Surely a smaller portion could have been provided as part of the 3 course meal. We never even got offered coffee! My brother was disappointed when he saw that a service charge had automatically been added to the bill as the vouchers had been bought as a Christmas gift

Booked in for a 6:30 dinner. Prefer to eat early. Restaurants closed however and invited to wait in lounge with menus. 30 minutes later finally invited back into the restaurant. More delay. At 7:15 they took our order. Not to difficult to choose, 6 starters, 6 main course and 6 puddings all in for £52 each. We'd had 45 minutes with the menus by then. Nothing else. But for £52 it should be amazing. Or so I thought ... Then an age awaiting our first course. 8 p.m. in fact. 90 minutes after our booked reservation. No drinks, only water. Food highly seasoned. Always a sign the chef is rushed and too liberal with the salt. At 8:45 we've eaten. Bill arrives more promptly than any of the three courses had. Now the shock. Not £52 each. £79 each. Would you believe they had the cheek to charge for the vegetables served with the main course. Not extras I should add, these were the vegetables served on the plate with the chicken fillet. So nothing we'd ordered - just something that was dumped on the plate with the meats. Plus a compulsory 10% service charge. So kept waiting. Slow in all respects. Very average food, over-seasoned. Tiny portions. Hidden charges for vegetables that were never ordered. £160 for two? Never again. The Wernher should be ashamed of themselves. Chandeliers alone do not justify mega prices. We expect good food too. On the way out I was informed the kitchen had been staffed by only one chef and a trainee assistant. With over 50 covers. Save yourself a journey. Hugely disappointing.

Recently had dinner here with a friend and we were both unfortunately left feeling very disappointed with our experience. We arrived early and I will say, Rob who greeted us was wonderful. An absolute asset to the team and more than happy to take some photos and was a pleasure to talk to! Our dining experience however was not what we expected. The starter arrived promptly, however it took 50 minutes for our main to come out. We raised this and the waiter was aware we'd been waiting a long time and tried to find out what was going on. Our main then came out, but wasn't hot, the beef was warm, however the rest of the food was cold. Our wine then arrived after we'd finished eating. We had to wait a further half hour for our dessert to come out. We tried on several occasions to order drinks, and get the waiters attention, the service was not good. This was further made worse by the majority of staff preparing for breakfast the following morning whilst we were trying to place orders, and felt quite ignored and just in the way. I did try to call to discuss the experience and asked for Jonathan, as advised by Rob who kindly asked how our meal was at the end of the evening, however was left on hold for 20 minutes and eventually hung up as no one was answering. I do not think this is what people generally experience based on the reviews, however we will not be returning.

We still loved our evening but it is quite obvious that the service is far from being pre-covid. We could not have drinks on the terrasses as every single table had dirty glasses on it. It took 20 minutes to have our drink order taken in the lounge. The 4 drinks did not get served on a tray but in 2 lots of 2 by hand. No citrus slice on the cosmopolitans. Food was delicious Considering how little service we get because of covid restrictions the 10% service charge is too high. These details need sorting as they are not ecpected in such a high class hotel. We had the same experience a few weeks ago...

Wonderful unhurried service and perfectly presented dishes in a magnificent opulent marble laden pillared walls with high ceilings overlooking the spectacular rear gardens of the Mansion. Sunday lunch was perfect, every morsel of food was incredible with the best Yorkshire puddings we've ever eaten out! A well cooked lunch, beautiful fresh asparagus starter and well presented caramelised Apple tart was the perfect dessert. The petit fours were a lovely end to a delicious meal. Service was initially a little slow because of COVID restrictions and a very busy service but the staff were so lovely despite all of the extra tasks to keep us all safe so patience is a virtue at the moment. The room is very warm so recommend you dress appropriately. I had a pashmina which I didn't need once seated and was glad I wasn't wearing a warm outfit. If you are looking for an indulgent Sunday afternoon or dinner, highly recommend. Only open Wednesdays to Sundays. Advise booking early especially for Sunday lunch as it is very busy. Fish and vegetarian options are available but I would let them know in advance if you are vegan so they have the best options available for your visit.

Booked this treat for my mum who celebrated her 79th birthday during lockdown. This was supposed to be a relaxing celebration of her birthday & getting through scary COVID times .I booked a corner table and advised my parents were both lactose free .There was 4 of us in our party when we arrived we were shown to a table laid up for 2! Although the rest of the restaurant was fairly empty at 7pm!The waiter then started to make up the table with two if us seated and the other two standing waiting for chairs to sit!The waiter then came over with additional cutlery and put his hands all over the forks and knives!! Bearing in mind this is supposed to be a 5 star hotel!! We complained as my parents were squashed together on this table..We were moved to a corner table and given menus Bearing in mind this was dinner 3 of us were given luncheon menus and only 1 dinner menu. The waiter then arrived with canapés - asking which ones were la lactose free only to find out none!! He then changed them Cutlery was missing from the table so when each course came we had to wait & ask for correct cutlery to come, thus made our main course cold...By this time I complained to the head waiter who apologised but advised me that staff were new, only started tonight etc but I pointed out that they should be well rehearsed about food allergies .. & I am dining at a 5 star hotel not the local cafe !! They should know better I pointed out it was my mums birthday celebration and it had been ruined - just an apology- no glass of champagne for my mum to make up for this bad service and no one wishes her a happy birthday even though they knew on the booking!!

We had our Wedding at The Cross Keys in May 2024, with around 80 guests in the day and 100 total at night. The experience from start to finish was fabulous - Paul made us feel welcome by offering us a drink when we came for planning sessions, Kathryn was completely open-minded for any of my crazy ideas and offered the knowledge/support when needed (thank you for putting up with my 101 E-Mails), the girls who worked behind the bar and served our food on the actual day and before/after are all so lovely and worked so hard to give us the best day - we will always remember your kindness! We were given the Paddock Marquee the day before to set-up, day of, and the day after to take everything down (this is unheard of in many other places, and we felt that the value for money was un-matched!) All tables, table cloths, plates, glasses, cutlery etc provided by the pub and we just added our stamp by using our own decor. We were given our choice of colour around the top edge of the marquee, we chose to keep this white, but if you had a specific colour theme this could be a nice touch. We opted to have the starlight roof above the dancefloor, which looked amazing at night and broke up the space a little into a separate area. The marquee does have separate male and female toilets (like fancy portaloo type) and they had a space to provide bathroom baskets for guests. It was nice not to have to walk round to the pub to use the toilet and have one close by. We had a BBQ as our Wedding Breakfast (chicken, burger, sausage, steak, halloumi etc), cooked and served by the pub, and we paid corkage to provide our own drinks during the day. We had an external caterer for our evening food at no extra charge, and the bar in the evening was stocked with every drink you could want. We also had a dessert table provided externally at no extra charge - we found the flexibility to have internal/external catering really helpful to make sure we could have what we wanted on the day. There were fridges and freezers to store food/drink the day before the wedding. We had a bouncy castle, live singers, outdoor Photo Booth etc on the day - one side of the marquee was opened up to allow for a relaxed atmosphere where our friends and family could wander in and out as they pleased. Everyone commented on how well the day flowed and how chilled the environment was. Please note - 1) The venue is a registered camping site, great to offer to your guests, however there were lots of people on the field camping on our wedding day, which we were not made aware beforehand would be the case. It was not really a problem for us, but if you are looking for complete privacy and the entire space to yourself perhaps worth enquiring about. 2) We had alcoholic shots as our wedding favours - with non-alcoholic alternatives for children under 18, pregnant women and non-drinkers. Unfortunately on the day, despite providing a detailed table plan, these were handed out at random and we did have a 12 year old family member given a vodka shot (a funny memory for him, but maybe would not have been so funny if given to one of the other non-drinkers for other reasons, as we had an ex-alcoholic at our day!) Just worth noting to really emphasise how important these small details are. Overall we had an incredible day and would recommend The Cross Keys to anyone looking for a slightly lower budget Wedding, we have already passed on the details to some of our friends. Thank you to all of the team - Clare & Nathan x

Popped in as was close to where we were staying. Unfortunately although we enjoyed our Steak burgers and chips we do not feel it was value for money and the menu was very limited(possibly as we understand it is under new ownership?). Would we go again if we are back in the area? sorry that would be a no - however this pub seems to be very popular with some of the locals.
