Ate here on the recommendation of a friend. It's a bit more expensive than my usual kind of restaurant but I'm very glad I came. It's been a tough year for myself and my wife so we treated ourselves. Everything was perfect, very helpful and friendly staff and the food was fantastic. The bubble and squeak starter I had was divine. Treat yourself and pay a visit. You will not be disappointed.

We ate here both night stay in Aspley Guise. The restaurant was big but the bar was small with on 5 or 6 tables. The was a large covered seating area at the front. Unfortunately we couldn’t get the patio heaters to work. They could have done with making some of the restaurant space to be used for drinks. Staff were pleasant and the bar was well stocked. When we cam out of the Anchor on Saturday night the village was deserted. I would suggest that you try here if you are in the area.

Fancied a roast dinner and have heard good things about The Anchor, it didn’t disappoint. We had a table booked for 6.30pm, sounded like they had a busy afternoon as only beef and turkey left, so we had one of each. Fully loaded with veg, crispy potatoes, sweet parsnip purée, delicious thick gravy and huge crispy Yorkshire pudding. Would have loved some pigs in blankets but gutted as they had all sold out, so had a side of stuffing instead. Friendly staff who were very attentive. Will be back but at an early time to hopefully enjoy pork/lamb options.

A thoughtfully curated pub offering considered food. We enjoyed a Sunday roast, and the service, while attentive, occasionally felt a bit slow - likely a result of some organisational challenges. Our group of six found the seating a bit snug for the table, but overall, we had a pleasant and satisfying experience at The Anchor.

What an amazing roast! Just left after passing through, lovely staff, the most amazing roast we've had! And very accommodating as had to take some home as I eat slowly, but nothing wrong with portions, perfect and very generous with the meat. Elegant, but maintains a nice cozy pub feels. Dog friendly. Amazing!

What a great find.We heard it was a great restaurant and we were not disappointed. The pub and and garden had a great ambience. The staff was very friendly without being pompous. The food was excellent and my wife is a vegetarian and the chef had obviously put alot of thought into his selection as not the standard food for a veggie.A big shout out to Ramona and her team who were so friendly and accommodating. We were celebrating out 38th wedding anniversary and they gave us a complimentary glass of presseco and pudding.Would defo recommend this for any special occasion.I would probably say one of the best restaurants in MK and eat out alot.

We ordered the Parmesan Chicken and Ribeye steak with peppercorn sauce, which were both terrible. The chicken dish was actually breaded chicken with mustard sauce, no parmesan in sight, and didn't come with truffle fries. The Ribeye (asked for medium rare) was past well done and very dry. We asked for the steak to be redone and fries to be swapped for truffle fries. This took an age to arrive again and when it did, the sauce was missing. We'd finished our meal after which the sauce arrived. I'd understand some slow service if the pub was busy but it was half full. After complaining, the steak was removed from the bill but even then, this was one of the worst pub experiences we've had both on food and service. Really surprised it has such good reviews. Would not recommend.

Only 6 people in the restaurant, challenged them was told we have lots of people coming in together later but the whole time we were there nobody else came. Just felt like they couldn't be bothered. Also drinks very expensive. In fact more expensive than the best western hotel we were staying in £6.25 for pint of cruzcampo. Won't be visiting again

Called in to the Anchor last night for a table for 2, we sat down next to a couple who had ordered the Seafood Platter it looked amazing however we both just fancied steaks. We ordered Chateaubriand It was the best Chateaubriand we had eaten for many years, medium rare & so tasty & succulent with either peppercorn or bearnaise sauce & a perfect tomato salad. The thought of it is still making my mouth water, (can’t wait for the next one). Service was cheerfully & fast atmosphere great. One thing that did impress was how everything was so clean with crisp a white tablecloth & linen serviettes, not the usual paper ones. This place is obviously looking to serve quality good restaurant type food rather than the average pub eatery

I am in Aspley Guy's for work. Having had a busy day, I thought I'd take the opportunity for a sit down pub meal in the Anchor. I was surprised to see it so empty for 2020hrs on a Friday evening, but to be fair, equally thought, excellent, as least the service will be quick. I was met with very happy smiley bar staff, I enquired if they were still doing food. She quickly went to check, after asking what the time was, I confirmed 2020, she came back saying, " yes, if it's in the next 8 mins".... Again, slightly surprised for a Friday, but I'm easy to feed an like most things. Having had a very quick look at what appeared to be an impressive menu, I settled for quick and easy... IPA fish and chips. I asked could they swap the minted pea puree for simple mixed salad, with fresh garlic in the salad should they have that in the kitchen. Again, the very polite and lovely bar staff , I believe her name was Elizabeth, she was very lovely and polite, checked in the kitchen and came out assuring me that would be fine. I ordered my drink and went to sit outside to await my meal. It arrived, the salad looked " questionable " as soon as it arrived. Elizabeth asked if all was ok, I initially said that I suspected there was no garlic in the salad, but not to worry, it was late, I was tired and needed to eat. Not wanting my meal to get cold. I can confirm, there was absolutely no fresh garlic in the salad, infact, I suspected they had simply shaken over some garlic salt....!!!! Plus the leaves were tired and brown. The chips were undercooked, some of them still being hard / crunchy / cold inside. When I was asked if everything was ok I pointed out the issues, I also suggested that adding salt to people's food when they are not aware of the health of the customer ( who may not be able to have salt ) was in its self questionable. Further more, the chips were under cooked, and when my replacement salad finally arrived I'd essentially given up on my meal. Leaving most of the chips and a small portion of the fish. The fish, tbf, was parsable, until the tail end, all batter, stodgy and unpleasant. I did say to Elizabeth that for the price I was charged, this was absolutely not acceptable, she offered me a drink on the house. I accepted the drink. Apparently, hearing from the few customers that were there , this had not been the first complaint regarding the quality of food for the evening. I can not fault Elizabeth, she was extremely polite, professional and understanding. She understood my disappointment, and agreed with my complaint. Elizabeth looked quite embarrassed and clearly fed up with what would appear to have been a difficult shift. What was I charged for all of this culinary disappointment, ..... £27....!!!! I didn't intimate, suggest or demand a refund. Indeed, I wasn't offered one... Elizabeth did say she'd get the manager, frankly by that point, my relaxing meal in the evening was ruined and a chat about how to cook fish and chips to a standard that would make the meal edible and enjoyable, slightly above that of a Wetherspoons ( significantly cheaper, and at least you know what standard your ordering/ expecting ) was beyond me. A real shame, for my short time here, I was really looking forward to some local pub time. I will not be eating here again, nore shall I be recommending it to family, friends or random strangers. However desperate they may be to eat... Elizabeth, you were fabulous, you clearly had had a tough shift yet you were still very welcoming, polite and understanding. What a shame the kitchen could not be as professional. I hope they appreciate you more than they do the clients who pay nearly £30 for a meal .... And that was one of the cheaper meals on the menu if my memory serves me correctly....!!

Me personally food is hit and miss either amazing or bad, I feel they are losing more customers due to lack of beer choice, peroni, moretti or stella. Most locals would rather walk 20 mins to get different brands of beer (peroni) It's a shame as this pub could be a gold mine, but too expensive on food and beer... and they have not thought about the outside... get rid of the marquee and have a proper pub garden 👌 with nice tables and chairs.maybe some live music here and there. Staff friendly unfortunately have lost some real decent people for us things have changed. We live locally and can certainly spend more and want to here, but until changes are made we will eat and drink in woburn sands.

I would have got up and walked out but had to be polite to guests who suggested the place, but even they were fed up with the wait. When the food arrived it was chicken burger, really greasy and dry chicken from being overcooked or kept warm too long. We complained they gave us two meals off the cost. Avoid this place at all costs.

Booked for a mid-afternoon Sunday lunch for two. Took a few minutes to find someone to seat us but didn’t take long at all to take our orders - and service was so quick that the food arrived before our drinks! Food was all superb; my husband had the roast pork followed by apple tarte tatin, I had the crispy slow cooked belly pork followed by white chocolate & meringue roulade with raspberries & sorbet (to die for!). Only downside was that the pastry on the tarte train was soggy but otherwise tasty. We already have our eyes on things to have on our next visit! Useful hint: leave plenty of time to park & walk possibly a little way to the pub, The Anchor does have a car park but it was full when we arrived, and being a beautiful old village Aspley Guise has limited on-street parking. Definitely worth the effort though!

When we pointed that out, we were met with attitude and “what else do you want then?”. We ordered new drinks and food, but then waited for food for 1 hour. Turns out it was not sent to the kitchen so the order needed to be put through. While doing that, staff moaned about us to each other - about what I’d like to know?? We always have a great meal here. The nachos are amazing and I also love the fish pie and rack of ribs.

Was a lovely friendly comfortable place to eat with a small family. Shame it was closing that same week.

We had our Wedding at The Cross Keys in May 2024, with around 80 guests in the day and 100 total at night. The experience from start to finish was fabulous - Paul made us feel welcome by offering us a drink when we came for planning sessions, Kathryn was completely open-minded for any of my crazy ideas and offered the knowledge/support when needed (thank you for putting up with my 101 E-Mails), the girls who worked behind the bar and served our food on the actual day and before/after are all so lovely and worked so hard to give us the best day - we will always remember your kindness! We were given the Paddock Marquee the day before to set-up, day of, and the day after to take everything down (this is unheard of in many other places, and we felt that the value for money was un-matched!) All tables, table cloths, plates, glasses, cutlery etc provided by the pub and we just added our stamp by using our own decor. We were given our choice of colour around the top edge of the marquee, we chose to keep this white, but if you had a specific colour theme this could be a nice touch. We opted to have the starlight roof above the dancefloor, which looked amazing at night and broke up the space a little into a separate area. The marquee does have separate male and female toilets (like fancy portaloo type) and they had a space to provide bathroom baskets for guests. It was nice not to have to walk round to the pub to use the toilet and have one close by. We had a BBQ as our Wedding Breakfast (chicken, burger, sausage, steak, halloumi etc), cooked and served by the pub, and we paid corkage to provide our own drinks during the day. We had an external caterer for our evening food at no extra charge, and the bar in the evening was stocked with every drink you could want. We also had a dessert table provided externally at no extra charge - we found the flexibility to have internal/external catering really helpful to make sure we could have what we wanted on the day. There were fridges and freezers to store food/drink the day before the wedding. We had a bouncy castle, live singers, outdoor Photo Booth etc on the day - one side of the marquee was opened up to allow for a relaxed atmosphere where our friends and family could wander in and out as they pleased. Everyone commented on how well the day flowed and how chilled the environment was. Please note - 1) The venue is a registered camping site, great to offer to your guests, however there were lots of people on the field camping on our wedding day, which we were not made aware beforehand would be the case. It was not really a problem for us, but if you are looking for complete privacy and the entire space to yourself perhaps worth enquiring about. 2) We had alcoholic shots as our wedding favours - with non-alcoholic alternatives for children under 18, pregnant women and non-drinkers. Unfortunately on the day, despite providing a detailed table plan, these were handed out at random and we did have a 12 year old family member given a vodka shot (a funny memory for him, but maybe would not have been so funny if given to one of the other non-drinkers for other reasons, as we had an ex-alcoholic at our day!) Just worth noting to really emphasise how important these small details are. Overall we had an incredible day and would recommend The Cross Keys to anyone looking for a slightly lower budget Wedding, we have already passed on the details to some of our friends. Thank you to all of the team - Clare & Nathan x
