Food is fantastic they were extremely busy the day I went but service was still very very good

Had a lovely family meal here today. Landlord Tony managed to fit a booking for 9 in although the pub was already busy. Food fab service fab everyone very happy to make sure we had a fantastic time. Thankyou Tony Iona and the staff. We will be back soon . Best Sunday lunch around . Recommend this pub highly for any day of the week

We have been eating here for many years and we are never disappointed.

Good food and relaxing pub to eat and drink.

We two Adults & two dogs spent 4 nights at a Lodge nearby late September 2024 it rained a lot, this pub was a good 2 mile hike to get too which was good, it ensured both dogs were tired/well-behaved when we arrived. The pub was very clean & nicely decorated, the staff & locals were very warm & welcoming to all of us, the food was amazing, we tried different things on each of our 3 lunchtime visits that week, we can't recommend the whole experience enough. Except the hike back, was more like an endurance test, what with the food & liquid refreshments. We will be back next year.

1st time, going here, manager went above allowing me to have salmon with a roast dinner as an alternative as there is no choice for vedgeterian or pescateran, unfortunately the chef forgot my Yorkshire and stuffing, x better selection of veg is needed, but thats a personal choice,staff need to be more informed of the menu/ alternatives ithink , but all in all a nice pub, friendly atmosphere, made to feel welcome, x would reccomend and return.x

Lovely pub. Good menu choice with lots of specials available. Were able to change items with meal. Good well and served together. Very busy at lunchtime so would definitely book. Suitable for wheelchairs.

Tony and his team are fantastic. Friendly and welcoming atmosphere, delicious food and there's a lovely beer garden if the weather is good.

The ale was great, until it ran out. Food mediocre at best.

Great meal with friends and family easily managed to cater for the 10 of us. Great meal huge portions. Really friendly staff.

Service was very rushed, was a bit rude tbh with comments by the guy running things. Felt sorry for the waitresses that were being pushed for us to order pudding. Despite there being loads of free tables. Food was very bland. Felt very uncomfortable. Won’t be going back.

Booked a table for a family gathering and glad that we did as it was very busy place for a weekday lunch, the car park was full. There was a varied menu but I choose the Seniors Menu which was very good 2 courses £9.95. Cottage pie with a tasty cheese crust was very nice, served with fresh veg, followed by apple pie custard. Staff were friendly, helpful and efficient. Highly recommended. Well done Five Bellz,

Food is excellent. Restaurant kept to.a high standard. Staff are excellent. I ha e been arranging meals for 10 years at the Five Bells. We have never had a complaint . Today we took 2 friends and they were delighted with their meals. They have the menu and will be back with some of their friends and their company. Thank you all. We are booking the group in for Christmas. The standard of food staff cleanliness has always been excellent for over 20 years. Tony and his team are amazing.

Nice place to eat great service, only down side sweets very expensive at £7.35, and a very small portion.

2 visits both enjoyable no complaints we will be going back very soon

Been here a few times now and the place just keeps delivering. We can’t fault the food or portion sizes or the pricing. The staff are amazing and very helpful and have great speed I couldn’t recommend this place enough

Great food, we were a large group of 9. Food came out quickly and was a good standard. Couple of food allergies in the group and they weren't a problem at all. Would definitely go back and definitely recommend.

Seemingly nice village pub but let down by food & service e.g. sausages and mash (the mash didn't taste or look like real mash), kids' spag bol had not much bol sauce and no flavour, etc. Also my friend ended up paying twice for her main course because they said she hadn't paid when she had (she could show the transaction when she'd paid by phone but hadn't asked for a paper receipt). Big garden and kids' climbing frame.

1st time to this pub. We had a fantastic meal tonight, I had chicken katsu curry and my husband had the steak and Guinness pie. Couldn't fault the food or the service. Would recommend and we will return

Went there for a drink and was going to get food and changed my mind. The staff are trying their best but seem to be short on numbers. The organisation from management seems lacking, staff delivering food to garden, the walking by empty plates and glasses on tables? Ordered a snack instead which came up quick and was adequate. It’s Green King so always going to be editable but it’s not going to be something to rave about. Mentioned to who I assume is the manager about the mess and was responded back in a very stern way. Not something to make me feel perturbed as I grew up round pubs so seen it all before but it’s not the way to speak to customers. If you want a quick beer then it seems ok but decided to leave due to the manic service and rudeness. Just to reiterate, the staff seemed like they were doing their best, felt sorry for them. Trying to be fair it could have just been an off day 🤷🏻‍♂️

Nice and simple Sunday lunch. Not so huge as to make me sleep for the rest of the day. Happy smiling staff.

Had ploughmans the other week. Absolutely lovely,loads of it and very nice,since then 2x ploughmans has gone to a very small helping. Great place,but inconsistent.

Currently working in the area, lovely pub very clean friendly staff cracking pint of Guinness, yet to eat here but judging by the amount of people that are the food is good too.

It's the staff which make this place, all lovely and friendly. The food arrived hot but not really anything to shout out about. Typical pub food. Sometimes a salad isn't really needed on a plate of food, curry and salad on the same plate ? Or maybe that's just me.

Eaten three times .. wouldn't recommend the so called steak medallions as its more like beef in gravy that comes out of a tin ..and the roast beef is definitely not normal beef joint has it had a weird taste, very much microwave food ... felt rushed out from kitchen, only warm ..

First time In the pub nd was welcomed by Joe, the four of us got food and it was really good, really good atmosphere and nice locals to chat to. I will definitely be back

Lovely family pub, well cooked food and very good service.

Ordered chicken roast. Ate a bite and it instantly smelt and tasted revolting, very dry and had a strange taste and smell as though it had been left out and re heated a few times. Service was fine though, vegetables and mash ok, no Yorkshire included. They asked if food was ok but only looked at my husband who was polite, I made a face but didn’t get a chance to say as the server had already turned into another room. They did take feedback and offered to take off chicken but I said we always pay and give feedback. Afterwards, once home, I read another similar review and actually wish I hadn’t paid as it seems a known issue they have not fixed!

Classic pub with great pub grub. We reserved a table by phone, when we arrived we were met by a member of staff who was very friendly and helpful. The drinks order was taken at the table and served quickly. Once the food was ordered we waited a few minutes and it was delivered. Fast efficient service. We did not feel rushed, the only bad thing was that we were too full to have a dessert. 😀 Thank you for a great lunch.

What a bargain lunch. £9.95 for a Pensioners lunch for 2 courses! We were with a walking group and the pub was buzzing! Spotlessly clean and lovely efficient staff.

We were staying at another local B & B for three nights and upon arrival we ate there for our first night but then decided to try another venue. We liked the look of the Five Bells and were very impressed with the staff , food and service.,our meals - sea bass and medallions of beef were excellent . The proportions were very generous and although we liked the choice of desserts just could not manager to eat anymore. We would highly recommend this pub and decided to eat there again the following evening . This time we ate fish and chips with a huge salad and poached salmon fillet with garden peas and new potatoes. The huge choice of menu was so impressive particularly as there were so many alternatives to the normal “Chips” with everything! Real value for money !!

Have been to the Five Bells a few times and have always had good food and good service, we recommend to anyone wanting a nice meal.

Lunch with the ladies, 14 of us in total. Lunch was served all together, piping hot and delicious and good size portion on Senior menu. A lovely few hours with good food and lots of chat.

I was on a business trip so dining alone. I was made to feel very welcome by the staff and the food was lovely. I would recommend this place.

Have been twice for a meal which was excellent. Sadly our third visit for lunch was disappointing. Service was poor, we waited ages for our order to be taken and then waited ages for our food, which was very poor.

Have eaten here on several occasions as it has been a location where we meet friends who live some distance away. In the past the food was very good but today I ordered the chicken curry which was disgusting. The rice was stodge and the chicken as tough as old boots. Did not complain at time to save embarrassment. Very disappointed but will give a further chance at our future meet ups.

Ok. I need to apologise to the 5 Bells. I have just looked at the opening times and they do indeed shut at 9:30 on a Monday 😊 so I shouldn't have been surprised 😊 First visit in years to this pub. The food was good and the staff were great. But there weren't many people in so the atmosphere was a bit flat. And at about 9:30 we were politely told that they were closing. I admit we hadn't order a drink for a while, and we were the only customers at that point, but I was surprised that we were asked to leave. Maybe it was just that night.

Had lunch. Very busy at 13.00 and lucky to find a parking place. The Rack of ribs was excellent (and massive!) Friendly service.

Edelweiss Chicken was very good. Sunday roast was disappointing - no roast potatoes although listed on the menu and generally not up to last year's standard. Chocolate and brandy torte was delicious however. Service was pretty good and friendly but a point off as we object to being referred to as 'guys'. Perhaps we are just old fogies! Nevertheless good value for money overall.

We met our friends for a Christmas Lunch, choosing Henlow as half way between our homes. The atmosphere was warm and cosy, the staff very friendly and the food very tasty. It was the Set Meal, plenty of food without overdoing it, served hot and each course in good time. A good value delicious meal enjoyed by all of us. We will consider returning for another meet up in the New Year.

I had a lunchtime meal yesterday 15th November. I was very disappointed. The service was very slow. The waitress not happy. I had ordered the salad and requested no bread but could I have the ham and cheese instead. Previously this was provided and I was happy. This time the salad was not as good and the cheese delivered in a mini ramekin, one you would use for sauce. Very dissaponted.

Just moved back into the area after 10 years so went to the Five Bells for dinner. Still the first class quality food and lovely atmosphere.

My God, this is the worst Sunday Roast we have ever had . The starters we’re a joke. My daughter ordered spicy chicken wings at £7.75 and got two wings. When the roast dinner came out, we had two tiny roast potatoes, 1 teaspoon full of mash potato and a couple of spoonfuls of veg how they can serve this up and expect people to come back God only knows. We explained to the ladies at the tills when we were paying and they just apologised. I really wish now that we hadn’t paid.

Good value. Efficient service from staff who want to be there to give a great experience. Customers vote with their feet so expect it to be busy.

An excellent dinner on a Monday night. The restaurant wasn’t too busy. The service was good, the menu was varied (including the blackboard specials), and the food was delicious. I had the sea bass, which was moist and beautifully cooked, with a crispy fresh salad and a mound of crushed new potatoes (too many to eat). Other party members had a lamb and mint pie (a blackboard special), and the lasagna. All meals were beautifully cooked, well presented, and delicious. Pity we didn’t have room for dessert, but the dinner portions were generous.

We always take our visitors there for a brilliant meal but this time a little disappointed as dogs where at our next table and when our food came the dogs where sniffing at our table our guest where not impressed

The food served is good value and the staff are very accomodating

As you can see all five star for food, service and atmosphere and we had the oap meal with desert. The down side was the wine glasses, size,type and condition. The condition concerned me most , they've been washed so many times they are in urgent need of being replaced. Well passed user date. Will use pub again but take my own glass. Brian Butcher.

Lovely pub, yummy food. We booked last minute for a table on a Friday night, easy. The menu was great, lots of choices and for children too. Service was great. The food was delicious, good portions and all home cooked at great prices. We would definitely eat here again. Lovely inside, staff were friendly, toilets clean and nice.

My first time. Meeting up with friends. Seemed like a nice enough place.only had drinks so can't say much more about it.

Loved it there. Had a table for 7, Quick service, hot food and good value for money.

Managed to squeeze like 10 of us in together for a quick lunch, portion size pretty fair I couldn't finish my food. Still managed dessert though, lovely staff and a clean table next to a window on a hot day. Lovely :)

I never write reviews and don't normally moan about food but it was absolutely horrific all microwaved my daughter had two bites and wouldn't eat anymore and I wouldn't of fed to my dog it was so bad went somewhere else after no flavour to anything could tell everything had been microwaved from frozen

Had the pie, really tasty. Wife had the black / blue chicken which she enjoyed. Lots of choice.

Rather crowded and a noisy group at the next table meant we found it difficult to hold a conversation.

Lovely pub. Food was not so good this time but they were minutes from closing the kitchen. Onion bhajis were burnt and the mash was lumpy. A bit disappointing but hopefully next time will be better.

This place is a real gem, absolutely the best place to eat in Bedfordshire (Henlow). Good portions and lovely helpful staff, could not fault this place!

A local pub with standard good pub food. A wide menu and I must admit I really enjoyed my Mixed Grill (but was more than I could finish, which is really saying something). Tony and his staff do a great job!

Had a birthday meal with my son,his partner and her little girl. The service we received was amazing as was the food. The landlord came around and asked if everything was good. And it was very nice to be asked by him. It was excellent food and at a very reasonable price.

Popped in for dinner but would recommend prebooking, we managed to sneak a table for 2 as it appeared to be a wedding party in the main pub area so was very busy, the food was good old fashioned pub grub but for me the portions were far too large and neither hubby or I could finish. Reasonable prices and would recommend
