We have been visiting this pub for over 30 years and have always been more than pleased with the lovely food, bar staff and young servers alike. Today we went for lunch, ordered from the lunch menu and a mistake was made that I was given the same choice but from the evening menu, it was minus a bun and had a bit more salad, I addressed with the young lady who brought it, and it wasn’t rectified successfully (only needed to add a bun) but I waited a while and the whole meal was re-plated, some chips and salad removed and a bun added, I mentioned that it seemed a lot of change when they could have just brought me a bun, which would have saved my meal being returned cold and my husband having eaten half of his by the time mine was returned. I asked to see the manager (lady in the kitchen) who asked me what the problem was-and not in a helpful way, she was not understanding that it seemed a lot of trouble to re-plate and remove things and did a bit more salad really matter? Unfortunately it fell on deaf ears and the chef wasn’t having any of it. I was spoken to like I was making a fuss and she just wasn’t getting anything I said, she was rude and it was very upsetting. The bar lady (who is always lovely) went to speak to the chef and my goodness the shouting we heard from the kitchen was shocking and unnecessary. We left our meals, paid and after 30 years of visiting our go to place we will not be returning. Such a shame when customer service is so lacking and errors are made by the establishment and the customer has to suffer for it.

Friendly helpful staff in a traditional pub. Great range of real ales and good value food. Highly recommended! We returned for Sunday lunch today. Good and friendly service, with enormous portions. Vegs aldente, pork loin great altho YP a tad overdone. Fish and chips terrific! Beer lovely! A great way to finish a walk!

1st time there and was very pleasantly surprised, great guiness and decent prices on drinks and food with a good choice. Friendly staff and nice atmosphere. Will definitely return to try some of the menu out well worth a visit if in the area.

Really good pub food and excellent service

We went to the rising sun last night for freinds birthdays such a freindly and welcoming place our young male server was fantastic he told us he was fairly new but he couldn't have done more for us very attentive and polite a real credit to your business as are all the staff thank you for making it a great evening the food is delicious and big portions.

Had a lovely roast dinner today. Portions are very generous. The apple crumble desert was yummy too. We eat here quite often and whether they're busy or not, the staff are always welcoming. I would book at the weekends as it gets busy. 🙂

Very warm welcome, keep very food . I had the rack of ribs . Never seen a bigger meatier rack of ribs!! Came with a selection of chips , jackets or roasts, with gravy and I asked for mint sauce.. good selection of veg and I feel very full now.. they have a great and wide selection of real ales. I had the Tribute. Lovely pint. They allow dogs. I brought my Puchon..he got a nice welcome and the customers gave him a few busicuiys which were provided at the bar. There were other dogs in the pub also. This pub has a great atmosphere.. I would love to come back again.

Great value and really friendly service

This pub used to be the place to go for fresh fish and chips. Unfortunately, they appear to have cheapened down and produce cooked frozen food disappointing. I would be quite happy to pay more for fresh quality food.

I recommend the rump steak. mmmm

Lived local for years and have never visited and this was a first. We arrived on a particularly busy evening with lots of reserved tables. The pub was filled in half hour, which they were not expecting the nice lady behind the bar suggested. Even so, the staff were pleasant, service was great and the food exceeded my expectations. I was surprised to see the pub had no chain attached. Good traditional English pub for the locals. I will definitely visit again.

Just got back from the rising sun pub. This is a very special place if you’re looking for real family run pub. The selection of drinks and food our exceptional. All the staff work really hard and make you feel so welcome. Our group had the set Christmas menu. I have to say probably the best food of this type ie Christmas usual I’ve ever had eating out. Hats off to the chef’s it was brilliant. Can’t wait to go back.

We booked a table for 5 people on the spur of the moment we were greeted very warmly had drinks in the bar and showed to our table staff were very freindly and attentive the menu was varied had something for everyone the food was delicious freshly cooked and very hot couldn't fault it portion sizes were generous it was reasonably priced too we will definatly be returning thank you

Lovely local pub with good old fashioned pub grub. Very reasonable price and friendly staff. Children's menu available, cheap lunch menu and good selection on the main menu too. Access is a little difficult for anyone with wheelchair or rollator as steps at the back entrance and threshold at the front with steps just inside. Parking available. Recommended

First class proper pub and restaurant, well done.

Lovely food - fish pie, beef pie and burger. Large portions. Not busy and a bit cold.

Usually pretty good pub grub but have been served under cooked lamb chops on one occasion and black sausages on another.

Great place for a drink on the return leg of a healthy wall. Good home cooking too.

Had sunday roast here today. Absolutely delicious food and for such a good price and massive portion. Really good price for children’s options too, service is always great & everyone is really friendly. Have been in quite a few times now and the food never disappoints.

Went here for a Sunday Lunch. 6 Adults and 6 Children. The staff were brilliant (despite the children wanting menu alternatives - which was no trouble at all plus one of our party knocking a glass of cola over). The food delicious and excellent value for money. The pub was busy, which was no surprise as a lovely ambience for a family lunch. All in all, a lovely family lunch enjoyed by us all.

Had a table booked it was the first time we had been here, was shown to our table on arrival, had drinks at bar added to table bill, very nice 👍 home made food with an extensive menu, service was excellent couldn't do enough for you, will definitely visit again

Fantastic pub. A little worn around the edges but the food was out of this world! Mixed grill was huge. Will absolutely be back.

Went for a group lunchtime meal. The food was lovely & the service was good. I rang ahead as I have dietary requirements. They spoke to me and adapted a meal for me. When we ordered, my meal was already on the order. The venue was lovely and clean and had a lovely atmosphere.

We had a family gathering here and we all chose different food ranging from mixed grill, fish and chips, burgers, vegetarian lasagne and rack of ribs with chicken, everybody thoroughly enjoyed their meal but couldn't have a dessert as they were stuffed as I was there were 8 ppl with drinks aswell, the price was exceptional which worked out roughly to £25 per person great value for money ps we will be returning.

Popular local pub with plenty of nooks to hide away in for a quiet meet. Function room upstairs for a private large space. The biggest issue is the parking. Very few spaces in their own car park and being in a residential location, street parking can be a real challenge.

Brilliant pub accommodating local drinkers and lots of tables in quiet areas for dining. Period features and wooden beams throughout. Great wine and beer selection. Large menu with premium takes on pub and American classics from burgers to bangers and mash. Soup of the day (cream of tomato) was fresh and delicious.

I hadn't been here since before lockdown, but the food is still great! I had the Sunday lunch and the beef was so tender and tasty. There was so much food that unfortunately I didn't have room for a pudding which sounded delicious. The only problem was the service which was quite slow.

The Rising Sun is a fine authentic English pub. The staff is helpful and pleasant. The drink selection is expansive, and the food is very good.

I visited here after a recommendation and I will certainly be returning! The food was really tasty and portions were generous. It was reasonably priced as well. The waitress who served us was incredibly helpful and so friendly. If you can, sit upstairs on the terrace/balcony as it gets incredibly hot inside the pub. My only gripe is that I'd like to see a better range of draught lagers but if you like real ales then you are well catered for.

Very dark upon entering the Rising Sun, perhaps a few lights over tables would be appropriate but the fish pie more than made up for it. Absolutely delicious.

The pub is old and was very pretty. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Very welcoming. The food was mediocre. The vegan chilli was awful, unfortunately, it tasted as though someone had opened a can of mixed veg mixed it with a can of tomatoes and then poured in powdered chilli powder and served it. Sadly it was not edible. We would go back as the atmosphere is good, but not to eat.

I had high hopes for this place however with every step in the building, it slipped lower and lower. firstly our waitress had no idea what drinks the place sold (soft or alcoholic) and just laughed it off. Secondly my food order was entered wrong so when I sent it back, I had to wait 15 mins for my dinner. Eventually when my mains arrived (and my party had all finished) she came over to take dessert orders which was very rude and acted surprised when I asked her to come back. finally when it came time to pay, I felt a little disheartened by not having any form of compensation for my very delayed meal. overall I wasn't happy with my experience here and not sure if I'd come back.

Excellent traditional English village gastro pub. Very excellent food, nice portion sizes, good variety, and children's menus, fairly priced, makes this a pleasure to be repeated. It's lovely inside, wooden beams, seated cosy nooks, and upstairs balcony clean facilities, staff are happy to be there looking, efficient, helpful and knowledgeable. There's a variety of beers, award winning ales and live music. no Guinness tho when I was there. Some of the outside seating spills onto the small ten car carpark so you can at moments expect an engine, tarmac tyres, exhaust and eye lights, momentarily when seated. Distant bin views. However this is insignificant in comparison to the lovely food, the music, helpful staff, and stranger friendly experience. 25yrs since I lived in Potton, it's rare indeed to find a pub where the standards haven't dropped. It's as popular and as busy now as I remember. What an achievement, especially after lock downs. Extraordinary longevity of standards and services of merit. Recommended!

Erm what's happened, this was my alehouse of choice as and when I get out as a busy parent, am sure covid is a factor, hope it gets back to what it was

The rising pub love the place its so cosy the food is so great it lovely and quiet just little music at the back ground the drinks are a great price & lots of choices of ales & beers.i give it 10/10.

Good beer and pub grub but slow service.

Used to eat here before club meetings. It was good to go back after so long. Food was as good as I remembered with plenty of space between the tables it felt very safe in the current times.

Excellent food, value for money 💰 you won't go hungry there and the staff are absolutely great.

Nice place to sit for a few drinks with friends. At the moment book a table outaide and go. It got a bit chilly by 9pm ish and they even provided us with a blanket to wrap up in to keep warm.

So glad to be able to go back to the best pub in Potton! Great service, excellent beer and good food at reasonable prices.

Had yet another lovely meal at the Rising Sun. good food and friendly staff. We’re always made very welcome. The pub has put in good measures during the current COVID pandemic - for instance one way system, table service and plenty of hand sanitiser. Highly recommended

Myself and my family visited The Rising Sun today and we weren’t disappointed. We were greeted by a member of staff straight away and was seated in an area of the restaurant that was very quiet. Our food and drinks arrived relatively quickly on what was a very busy evening. Everyone’s starters and mains came hot and tasting to perfection. Myself and my 6 family members couldn’t stop saying how wonderful everything tasted, even the salad! All staff were friendly and approachable, they made sure everything was good by checking in occasionally but were never intrusive. The food was reasonably priced and worked out to be even cheaper with the 50% off ‘Eat Out to Help Out’ scheme. We will definitely be back in the future.

We are regulars there. Especially on a Monday Lunch time when they have a full menu of food freshly cooked on the premises.

Very nice 👍 good staff clean toilets excellent facilities for social distancing and useful local knowledge, the beer 🍺 wasn't bad either.

Had the veggie burger with halloumi, not exaggerating but this burger was THE best I've ever had, meat eaters don't know what they're missing, talk about tasty, I can't praise it enough, a rainbow of flavours, highly recommend and a real asset to the menu, will definitely have it again, if you've not tried this then do, so much flavour, absolutely loved it!

Had a really good post lockdown dinner. Quick attentive table service due to covid. Great food with generous good value portions and space for pudding too. A reliable dinner out.

Absolutely beautiful food really enjoyed our roast dinner today & we both agreed it tasted just how our mum's cooked it. Well done to the Chef & all the staff that work here, the price was very good too so why not try it for yourselves.

We've eaten here on many occasions and the food is generally pretty good, however this Sunday the food was a real let down.I had a lamb roast and the meat was really fatty, the roast potatoes were leathery and my meal was served lukewarm - shame really. I shall visit again as every one has an off day.
