On arrival the lady said its menu had "misprints" on so you didn't get your free coffee. She was vague at best about the so-called deals on offer. In the event a breakfast with latte came to just under £17. Seventeen quid! It had better be good! Alas what was labelled as "Cumberland Sausage" was not the coiled, seasoned delicacy we all know and love but was bland, straight and obviously deep-fried. Other portions were small, if there was more than one mushroom they must be small ones and the bacon rashers were scrag ends. Plus the coffee was mediocre at best, although allegedly large size it was quite obviously only one shot with frothy milk to make up the size. As the lady asked how my food was I politely expressed my doubts, only to be told it was "definitely Cumberland" and fetched the chef/owner who stormed in with a pack of items in question. In a scene reminiscent of 'Fawlty Towers' she pointed out its title, but unwittingly confirmed this was frozen and, for what it's worth, the manufacturer was 'Chef's Larder'. At these prices you'd expect fresh delicacies from a local butcher and full-flavoured coffee. No wonder it was almost empty.

Went today fir Afternoon tea. 21.08.24 It was beautiful. Home made pies' sandwiches' cakes etc. Staff very friendly and attentative. Definitely recommend.

Absolutely superb full English breakfast and great freshly ground coffee. Quality ingredients and preparation. Also really friendly nice lasses work here which makes a difference keep up the good work!

Quick spot of lunch. Discovered Wendy's just by chance, Awesome tasting food,and good service, definitely would call in again as they have a good menu, we sat in ,it was just nice, not to hot or cold. Plenty of space, and cakes to blow your mind. I was in food heaven, highly recommend giving this cafe/Bistro a go. Well done Wendy's.

We called in for brunch. We had a couple of tasty omelettes. Plenty of fillings, nice and hot too. The coffee was of also of good quality. Great value and very friendly staff. Will definitely return when we’re next in Sunderland.

Dropped in for lunch this week and was OK. The ladies running the place were very attentive and friendly. Mrs got a panini which she said was canny, I got the steak and cheese burger but unfortunately wasn't anything out of this world at £13. Chips were tremendous. I was a bit put off about being asked to tip via card before even getting our meal.

Hi, Popped in to have a breakfast with my daughter, too late for that, so had a lovely brunch. Really nice ladies working in there, with a lovely meal before I went to the stadium of light, as my team were playing Sunderland. Cheers

Really friendly and helpful staff, and excellent food. The lamb and mint roll was so tasty. Cakes also looked lovely, but we were full after the savoury course. We will be back.

Breakfast | £20–30 Got the mega breakfast and a regular for the other half and we really enjoyed the food we waited about 20 minutes for both food came out piping hot and plenty of it will definitely go back again fully recommended staff and I believe it was Wendy are very attentive to everyone's needs.

There was a lot of choice on the menus for adults aswel as on the boards. Good selection for kids too. The food was good quality and big portions too. The staff were also very friendly and helpful. Can see myself going back

Hidden gem in Sunderland, food was really tasty and the potions were huge for the price. The cafe is spotlessly clean and very cosy. The staff are so lovely too they came round and had a chat before the food arrived and were really great with our little girl who was made to feel very special.

I was part of a group of 11. We turned up un announced and we all ordered a cooked meal. We did arrive just in time as it got quite busy. . The staff were warm and welcoming. Considering the size of the group the food arrived promptly. All the food was tasty and hot and we all enjoyed our meals. Definitely added to our places to revisit. Thank you. Next time we will call ahead.

Found this gem of a place a few years ago and if I’m in Sunderland city centre this is where I go for food. Firstly the staff are so friendly and nice. The food is home cooked and so good yum. I took my mother and she had the quiche I opted for mince pie which was large portion and came with a drink. My mother wanted the smaller plate with her quiche. All the food was amazing especially the chips, proper chips. They also serve alcohol my mother had a Malibu and coke. It’s easy to find it’s round the corner from the bridges opposite the flannels shop. Only thing I would suggest is the option of a gravy boat instead of the gravy poured onto the meal as some people prefer to put their own gravy on or dip the chips like my daughter does but It was fine for me. I love Wendy’s place and will definitely be back 😊

We called into wrndy,s for lunch while shopping. Both selected pie chips mushy peas and teas. Staff very friendly and place clean and very nice. I selected large and wife selected small. Meal was good with home made chips. Only down side was it was a bit pricey for the size of the dinners but very welcome on a cold and wet day

I visited Wendy’s Place today and had a very nice lunch, what I like about this place Is the lovely staff and great atmosphere. On top of that the food was very tasty and the prices were reasonable. I would highly recommend a visit to Wendy’s Place you will not be disappointed.

My friend and I had a window seat this lunchtime. We both had a bread bun with chicken and stuffing, gravy and a few chunky chips. Delicious and very filling. Staff are great and very friendly.

Popped in after walking past a few weeks ago. Had a menu on the window prices seemed reasonable so headed in. Place was clean and well presented. Ordered a jacket potato and was very pleased with the portion size of the meal and the service presented. The women came over and offered my partner a extra free topping as he had a larger jacket potato.Will defo return again

I'd passed this little cafe last week and as I'd already eaten decided I would return this week for breakfast..When I arrived the place was empty and there were no menus on the tables and no staff at the counter.There was a blackboard on the wall displaying some of the food and drink prices and while I waited I checked it out and decided on a full english breakfast and a hot drink..Eventually someone came out from the kitchen and I ordered and handed over my cash. As it seemed to be more than expected I asked if the prices on the blackboard were correct, to be informed No they were the old prices!!I then told her I wouldn't be bothering and would just have my money back.It's not the price which is the issue but it is one of my pet hates when shops, cafes and restaurants display prices lower than they actually are. On a matter of principle I would never return to any retailer or cafe who would think it was ok to carry out this practice.The cafe is in a great location and looked clean and tidy. The welcome wasn't one of the best and it seems strange to have no menus on the tables and to have them stacked at the till.Unfortunately because of the less than friendly welcome and the practice of displaying incorrect prices, I won't be returning or recommending this place.

Called in here for the first time for a quick cuppa. Lovely decor and very friendly and helpful staff. Ordered ham and pease pudding sandwich and have to say it was the nicest sandwich I've had in a long time. Tea and coffee was piping hot, just the way we like it. Will definitely be returning.

2nd time visiting Wendy's. Must say, the cafe is really lovely inside. Ordered a Latte, which was beautiful and enjoyed a lovely catch up with my friends. Lovely set of Staff and service is extremely good.

Went for the first time with three friends on a Wednesday morning. We all enjoyed what we had ordered. Some lovely looking cakes on the counter, so we will definitely have to have a return visit. Interior decorated lovely and the seats are very comfortable. Really nice cafe, reasonably priced and plenty of choice on the menu.

I went to Wendy's Place with some friends, to socialise and to have a good cuppa. I ordered a Luxury Hot Chocolate which came with a FREE Creme Egg. The hot chocolate came with cream and marshmallows with a couple of small biscuits on the side, the hot chocolate was beautiful but wasn't mixed properly as all the chocolate powder was gathered at the bottom. But apart from that the interior and the atmosphere was lovely. Will definitely come again. The prices vary depending on what you order. All in all very quaint little caf'e.

Called into Wendy's Place today, not quite sure what to expect but the friendly service, quality of the food and the price were excellent. I had a BLT sandwich and a latte, my wife had cake with a cappuccino, it couldn't have been better.

Called in for tea and cake on a wet afternoon & we were the only customers, but we were welcomed by some of the staff who were very pleasant. We both chose the Jaffa Cake which we have had before & we were delighted.

Lovely food, modern facilities, friendly staff, bang in the middle of Sunderland. Well worth a try any time of day
