Superb, just make sure to take time for more than just a quickie. A beautiful, beautiful cathedral in peaceful grounds. We (dog Beryl and I) stayed two nights, did the tour (good) then went back and back at different times of day just to soak up the atmosphere; we were never disappointed. Beautiful.

It is quite a while since I have been in such a magnificent building, but it is always a reminder of the skills that bygone builders had to put such a place into existence. Costing £4000 a day to maintain, the entry contribution of £5 is peanuts. Todays construction industry is put to shame. Putting aside the physical marvel of the building itself, there is a feeling of spirituality and tranquility throughout. Lots of interesting places within the building and there is also available either a physical tour by a guide or one of these electronic guides which talks you around the place at your own pace. You are free to walk around by yourself if you prefer. There are some very good free guides as well, plus a cafe, toilets and the obligatory shop. It is a place well worth going out of your way to see. It is also only 5 mins walk from the cathedral into the town centre where you will find shops, bars and cafes.

Had the pleasure of visiting Wells Cathedral this week including attending evensong on a number of occasions. The choir singing (from Wolverhampton) were simply outstanding and I particularly enjoyed the verse sections in the Friday evening setting. The verger was beautifully flamboyant bringing a huge amount of energy to the services earlier in the week. Also thoroughly enjoyed the modern art exhibition - really made me broaden my acceptance of what classes as art. Highly recommend the Toby’s Toe exhibit! Thank you Wells!

As this cafe is part of the Cathedral buildings, it's very attractive, well maintained and has a lovely atmosphere. Calm, friendly, light and airy and the food is great too. My friend and I both had soup. Her fish soup + scone looked good and she really enjoyed it. I think she had the better option as my cauliflower + cheese soup (with a break roll) wasn't quite as good and not much taste really unfortunately - the first time I've ever been disappointed by the food here. It was a strange orange colour - I assume by using Red Leicester cheese but no sign of any cauliflower. But all my previous meals here have been great, so I'll still return. Had a good choice of cakes, scones, teas, coffees, as well as light lunches - toasties, quiche etc. The staff are so friendly and cheery and so willing to help - such a great asset.

The cathedral has a grand facade and inside, the intriguing crossed scissors stonework is unlike any I`ve seen in a cathedral. There are lots of fascinating nooks and crannies, such as the lizards on stonework, the old clock, the beautifully worn steps showing centuries of pilgrimage, the jumbled broken glass windows. There is a well stocked shop selling delightful carved church mice and green man pottery. They ask for a donation,£12 for a couple was suggested which we gladly paid but a lot of people just rudely ignored polite requests for donations, when even a token amount would help to keep this wonderful place continuing to survive.

Stunning. Beautiful. Awe-inspiring. There are too few meaningful words to describe this Cathedral. We had been meaning to visit it for some time and finally got there and what a visit it was! There is loads to see, and there are guided tours with experienced people who explain about the history of the building (it was started in the 1100's). There is an amazing 24 hour clock with just one pointer which moves between the hours and chimes each quarter with a model which strikes cymbals at each quarter.

We visited Wells specifically to visit the Cathedral. The history of the site itself and cathedral was very intetesting and well presented throughout the building. Beautiful front facade of the building and useful information on the dates of the tombs within the cathedral. This is one of England's most beautiful cathedrals and one wonders what the area around the cathedral was like in the 12th century! Wells itself is a beautiful town full of character. You can take dogs inside if it's cold or wet, it has tables outside if you prefer. They sell dog treats and welcome dogs, not just tolerate them.
