Came here with my partner and two young daughters the fish and chips are a must and the service is fantastic with a very friendly atmosphere definitely recommend.

Arrived at 1.00pm to find the venue closed then someone opened the door, told the restaurant wasn't open due to the on-line booking system not working, and everyone had been informed. I stated I wasn't, then told they didn't have a chef so nothing could be cooked. This was the day after the euro cup final. Got back in the car and checked the app nothing wrong with it! All the staff had to do was ring and cancel my appointment, complete waste of time!

absolutly fantastic food was piping hot only waited around 15-20 mins for food full of flavour couldnt fault it staff was very polite and joyful couldnt do enough for us very welcoming nice enviroment really clean will deffo be coming back and recomending to family and friends

Super host, more than decent food Haswell.

Arrived 6.55pm. Ordered food at 7.15pm having asked for someone to do it. Asked at 8pm where our starters were. Told just making them as I had only ordered at 7.40pm, This was atotal lie. I had ordered at 7.15 but it took 25 mins for the order to be placed on the till. Last starter arrived at 8.15pm. Meals were of good quality but staff attitude was horrendus. When I went to pay I was using 30% off voucher and was told it was worth waiting for our food as we had saved £23. We will not visit this venue again.

Shame they don't have much plant based, chilli and nachos, but no burgers. How hard is it to have a plant burger in the freezer. *Thank you for the reply, my annoyance is with Marston's not with any of the staff onsite.

Went to a St Patrick's celebration last night. Two members of staff was amazing, couldnt fault their friendliness. Another staff member was very rude when i attempted to try the food....Food i was told was very tasty, as i didnt have any i cant comment on this. I have been informed that the Friends of Hale ordered this for the amount of food. For the amount of people there, there just wasn't enough to go round. I would like to apologise to Katie for my first review after speaking to her today.....now I know the facts I sincerely apologise....

Polite staff excellent surroundings and food was delicious

When we arrived service was good, our table was ready and our drinks and food order were taken promptly. Drinks arrived quickly and as ordered. Food was average. Yorkshire puddings on the roasts were cold. When we voiced this to the waitress she brought replacements from the kitchen. We were charged an additional charge for each Yorkshire pudding that was replaced. When I questioned this we were told as some of the cold Yorkshire pudding had been eaten they couldn’t just replace it and had to charge for additional. The chicken burger stated it came with chicken gravy - it didn’t. I asked for a side of onion rings which never arrived but were still added on the bill. There was a mix up of which curry was ordered, a korma was brought which wasn’t even on the menu. When we asked it was replaced with a chicken tikka which is what should have been ordered. Granted this was probably my mistake but both curries were added on the bill. The korma was brought to the table and taken straight back with the waitress saying she would sort it. She should have said I can rectify this but you will be charged for both and given us the opportunity to decide what we wanted to do. I asked for half and half with the curry and was told that was fine. What actually happened was the curry was ordered with rice and a side of chips added. I would have preferred the waitress to say, we don’t do half and half but you can order a side of chips if you like. Overall disappointing and won’t be returning.

It was very welcoming, loved the personal touch due to a friend retiring next week, made the table lovely for us. Very attentive and service was very good, only down bit was the menu didn't really cater for my friend who is gluten free, who ended up having curry but quickly returned to kitchen due to naan bread contamination on rice, this was quickly corrected with a new dish brought out. Also my other friend who ordered the chicken, bacon salad didn't get the brown rice, quinoa on her plate either she just had chicken, bacon and spinach on her plate other than that it was lovely and I look forward to returning to u for another meal.x

Lovely food excellent service lots of space for kids not overcrowded very friendly

It was a little quiet for a Saturday night, but it was the second weekend in January, and people are feeling the pinch. All the staff were lovely helpful and friendly. The food was absolutely delicious, the chips were cold, so they gave us a fresh bowl of piping hot ones, not qualms , just apologised, and sorted us out straight away. I was a little disappointed that they didn't have my first choice of meal, or my first choice of pudding, but I honestly, what I chose in the end was delicious and I would definitely recommend. I will definitely be returning in the future!!

Staff were lovely very attentive, service was excellent.. Chicken on mixed grill very dry, advertised as Cumberland sausages and they were like chippy sausages.. especially for the price of the mixed grill you expect top quality produce as it wasn’t cheap.

I can not express how warm a welcoming this pub is ! We was visiting Liverpool and had no where for my son to eat as he’s autistic and very fussy . We walked into the wellington and was looked after my all the staff from the start ! The barmaid even gave my son who is obsessed with floors and rooms a tour of the cellar a function room !! We can’t thank the staff enough for turning a bad day into a lovely afternoon ! The food is lovely too especially the fish and chips xx

Had a lovely meal in the Welly, compliments to the chef, it was my birthday, and the bar staff came over singing happy birthday, how cool, only down side was no back ground music in restraunt, but defo go back, Keith the bar man was propa funny, we had a good laff

Very welcoming village pub, with beer garden and front door tables. Serves a decent pint of mild and for a reasonable price.

Bought and paid for a leak and potato soup, as the veggie menu is poor there was nothing on the main menu that I would eat. They brought me a butternut squash soup (without advising me of the same - I had to ask what soup is this?). I was offered to swap this for something else however I advised that the veggie menu is poor therefore there was nothing else on the menu I wanted. The waitress told me apparently the veggie menu was very good 🤣 dismissing my opinion. I did not eat the soup and was not offered a refund. Waste of money.

We enjoyed having our meal at the Wellington Hotel. The food we ordered was really nice and presented well. The staff are very polite and made us welcome. Definitely go again.

14 of us went for grandson’s birthday, pub was really busy but the staff were really attentive. Food was really nice and great value. Would definitely come back.

Took 4 attempts to give me a clean glass. Not impressed. Beer garden scruffy.

No welcome or greating on arrival despite being walked passed multiple times by staff, I had to queue up at the bar just to get a menu as no menu's are on the tables, The food itself was very nice, the place is beautifully decorated and the prices are very reasonable, I would have liked to have left 5 stars but better customer care is needed.

Lovely friendly greeting nice man at the bar doing the job of 3 no doubt. Knowing things are difficult for the trade I understand that desserts are probably frozen and defrosted to order but I can honestly say that's the 1st time I have actually burnt my tongue on a triffle. Also the rocky road sundae guys the brownies are not supposed to be actual rocks. Obviously someone forgot to turn the microwave to defrost they were mad hot . But these are not the reasons why we won't be coming back ( mistakes happen) that will be down to managments disregard for my complaints getting someone to tell me that the brownies were supposed to be hot.Guys they were burnt best to acknowledge the mistake. No proper apology or offer of refund Poor nice guy who it was pleasure to be served by had to face us. Won't be returning

Really lovely pub inside and out, made to feel very welcome. Good fresh tasting beer and went for lunch menu. Good value for size of portion. Will return next time in area.

Only had a snack , food was tasty enough

Absolutely awful. Came in for a drink and had a rowdy gang of people who I believe to be regulars screaming, shouting and swearing. We couldn’t wait to get out of there. Staff couldn’t give two hoots about the atmosphere for the rest of the pub. Didn’t even finish my drink. Pub also smelt musky and is definitely not inviting. Will not be visiting again.

I was really disappointed, I came to Celebrate my Birthday and on your website you advertised your Sunday roast but on arrival I was informed that you are not doing roasts as it was Father’s Day and would be busy. So we did not dine with you as I only came from old swan for the roast as I had been told by friends that your roasts are very nice and I wanted to try them for my birthday.

Having been here over the years it's now really poor, constantly changing management, food is just nowhere near how it used to be, the atmosphere and people in there has really gone downhill, used to be such a lovely pub but now it's poor, wouldn't go back there at all.

Called in here unexpectedly on the way home from a very stressful visit with my poorly sister at Chester hospital. My mum and I were a bit sad and tired. As soon as we sat down.. a really friendly girl welcomed us and took our drinks and food order and told us she would open up a tab to save us going to the bar. Very kind of her. My mum ordered the fish n chips and as I am trying to lose weight.. I ordered the chicken and bacon salad without the bacon or dressing . The food arrived and my mum LOVED her meal saying it was the nicest, whitest cod she had ever had. That's a real compliment from her as she is really fussy! I was expecting a pretty boring chicken salad but it was the nicest I'd ever had. It had all the freshest ingredients plus the chef had incorporated quinoa and brown rice into it. It was really delicious. The chicken was fresh, delicious and grilled to perfection. I'm definitely going to return here with my husband and daughter as we only live in Grassendale and I know they will love it. Thank you so much to the staff for such a warm welcome and an exceptional meal. it was just what we needed on such a sad day and it really rejuvenated us. We will be back!

Thought nice drive out for pub lunch not.. Told only what was circled on the menu available, fair enough. Picked our food. Told half hour wait, no issue, weather was nice. Waited over an hour, but still no food. Went to ask for an update, Told kitchen closed sorry.... order didn't come through, funny how barman produced order. So I waited a further 10 minutes for a refund. To add to it, I asked for starter mac n cheese to come as a main as I can only eat small portions. Turns out I got charged double for a starter....

Fantastic new landlords Ian and Michelle turned it back into the local we no an love lovely food lovely bar staff Stella on draft at £3.10 a pint plus bingo, karaoke and live entertainment of a weekend ten stars in my eyes👌👍since then 5 more landlords an £4.10 a pint now marsdens daylight robbery and treat there landlords with absolutely no respect and just taken deposits and then getting rid a few months later worst pub chain imo 🤬🤬🤬

After experiencing excellent service and food in two other locations of this chain, we decided to try one nearer, however, this was a huge mistake. The pub was in no way to the standard of the others and this is extremely misleading by association. The food was cooked badly, and the wrong item cooked. The pie was so hard it was near impossible to cut into it, let alone eat it. There was no bottled still water, the coffee machine was broken. These are basic things! The interior needs attention.

Went for Christmas Dinner. First meal was cold sent back second meal same . Asked for Manager but he wasn't bothered even the Christmas pudding was cold that got sent back. My husbands meal was warm my sons the same but thay got on with it £160 Wasted AS I will not eat warm food plus its HYGIENE to test all food it should be at a certain temperature . So health and safty was not in place. SO DEFINITELY WOULDNT RECOMEND I WILL BE SRNDING E MAIL TO PUB ASWELL AS HEAD OFFICE . DOUBT WILL GET ANYWHERE

Nice, quiet place and nice food.

We turned up a little later than the finish time food but the boss checked with the kitchen and we were shown to a table. The waitress was excellent and the food was very good. We will be going back again as we were treated so well and served with delicious food by cheerful and efficient staff. Thank you to the management and staff.

Sorry to leave such a poor score as Kevin and Holly really did their very best as waiter and waitress in difficult circumstances. Management should have informed our party there was no chef and hadnt been for 5 days, and rescheduled our meal

I was disappointed, they didn't have good lager, I asked for a lime + soda + they gad no lime also there was endless amount of kids running round, u cldnt even sit outside for a large bouncy castle

Great pub, friendly people and cheap drinks

Only had drinks and snacks/starter. Cauliflower wings starter was delicious and nice chips. Friendly service but waited quite a while. Only 1 other person in the section of the pub. Very lacking in atmosphere- needs calm background music. Nice decor and quotes on wall. Will definitely come back.

Our first visit to this pub. Popped in for lunch (a Sunday). A warm welcome from the staff as we entered the pub. A nice table. Good beer. Great food ( roast dinner for me & scampi for my wife). Staff were really nice too. We both really enjoyed it. We will be back.

Friendly helpful staff and lovely atmosphere

I randomly chose this place to have a meal en-route to Liverpool (from Birmingham)to return my friends son to University (on Sat. 15th Jan. 2022) after reading their good reviews. We were not disappointed after choosing 3 different meals all of which were better, in my experience, than most other pubs deliver in this price range, i.e. not expensive. The quality of my Scampi was super, the lads fish was “large” and good quality and my friends burger excellent. The accompanying chips, peas, etc , my pint of beer, my friends red wine and shared jug of water, all for £45 was excellent value for the quality delivered by the 3 lovely girls “on duty” and the chef. I can confidently recommend this place to you. They fully deserved the +10% tip I gave in return for their excellent food and service they delivered.

Always enjoy coming to the Wellington. The place has a warm and friendly atmosphere, the staff are great as is the food.

Lots of apologies for the wait for service. After a wait of about 40 minutes got our meal. Not the best. I'm going to stay home and cook my own from now on.

It was a fantastic place. Nothing bad about it. Staff were really nice. Great toilet quality and all tables there are to possibly sit at were amazing. A great place to eat.

Had a Sunday meal at this vibrant village pub the food was excellent a delicious meal served with a pot of gravy...the choice was beef chicken pork or for an extra price lamb shank... other meals are available. Starters looked very good also clean dining area pre booked as plenty of people turn up to dine.. great staff service to .Beer garden, bar with TV good ales beautiful garden as well definitely worth a try 👍👍👍
