We came for Sunday carvery when we visited Dawlish. The food was good, although the beef was a bit chewy. The Yorkshire puddings were huge. Service was quick and friendly and the Covid-19 set up was good. We would return if we came back to the area.

We were unsure what to expect due to Covid however the facilities were fantastic especially as my dad is in a wheelchair. It was easily accessible and plenty of room inside. Plenty of sanitising. We had scampi, lamb shank and steak and ale pie and found the food lovely and reasonably priced. Staff were welcoming and helpful.

The staff were doing their jbest they could, but place and food was SO mundane. It was on a par with corner shop cheap takeaways. When we arrived the overflowing drains from the kitchen should have been an effective portent of the sad excuse for an evening out. It was probably the side effect and over reaction from the management in respect to the Covid pandemic. But basically the place was understaffed and unkempt resulting in a service that created an environment that was depressing.

What a disappointing place to eat.The starters were the garlic mushrooms ,soup and the prawns which we all enjoyed but all 4 main courses were so basic for the price they charged was a definite rip off.The bottle of Sauvignon Blanc was the cheapest they could buy and they charged £17.50 a bottle yet another rip off .The waitress needed intense training in service it was so bad ,just one example whilst eating our main meal she came and asked did we want the bill.I could go on with a long list but I think I will sum it up by saying don’t go there.

With lots of choice on where to eat we chose the welcome inn and booked a table before hand. When we arrived we went in and was shown to that table and told to go up to the bar and order our food and drinks so we did. We was ordering and paying in 3 groups so 3 of us got up and went to the bar to order. We was advised to please move back as we was too close as the bar man didn’t want to die. Bit insensitive and confusing as the person before us was stood right at the bar. We was then told we had to sit down as only one per table could come to the bar which we wasn’t told. So we had to try and organise ourselves in the middle of the bar where the front door was located and people trying to come in to work out what we all wanted to order but we managed and then sat down and was told we could then all go up to the carvery. We all now stood up and walked through the bar and the queue to the carvery area stood in between rows of tables almost touching them. We got the food and sat back down on our table and it was very nice. The Yorkshire was burnt but everything was clearly homemade and tasted good. The price of the child carvery of £8/99 was a bit expensive for 2 slithers of meat and a couple of potatoes and the choice of veg wasn’t amazing but was all cooked well. Would we come back ? Yes for the food but the service just seemed to let it down a bit with what you can actually do or don’t do it wasnt clear and the regular customers who were seemed to be known to the staff seemed to Recieve a much better service.

We have used this pub on previous holidays and have never been disappointed. There is a decent choice of food and it is beautifully cooked - the grandkids ate all their food and the home-made chips are to die for. As far as frills go this place isn't the Ritz, BUT, it is at the top of the "will come again" list and beats the opposition across the roadby a country mile. Social distancing wasn't a problem and whilst we were having our meal we could have a conversation without being drowned out by background music.

A pub of such a name, I would expect somewhat of a warmer welcome. I understand that times are difficult with covid, but a smile and hello would be ‘welcome’. The drinks were lovely, didn’t have food, but wouldn’t. Seems reliant on people to sit outside (fair enough, but would suggest a lick of paint and clean). Inside was dark and dreary, just glad the toilets were clean. We didn’t exactly feel comfortable, which wouldn’t be a hard fix in my opinion. Great location, needs a bit of work.

Don’t get me wrong... the food is still great. But the change of owners and change of process baffles me. They have gotten rid of table service and moved to ‘order at the bar’. That wouldn’t be so bad if all the staff mucked in and helped.... but there is one bloke behind the bar who insists on doing everything while the waitresses stand around doing nothing in between running food and drinks. He’s behind the bar doing everything by himself. Serving drinks Taking food orders Taking booking Answering the phone. This slows down the whole process having everything go through one person. We were stood for 10mins outside tonight as we waited to book a table and the waitress said he would be with us soon... but he was stuck serving an ever growing queue. In the current climate you would have thought table service would have been the better option. Such a shame. Food 10/10 Service 5/10 (compared to last years 10/10)

went to the welcome Inn as there website doesn't say need to book. The lady refused us entry sayiìng they were full and couldn't fit us in. The place looked empty and the car park had 3 cars in it. Hope this place goes under after August because doesn't look welcoming and the lady at the front desk isn't welcoming. Clearly it is only interested in old people who they can rip off rather than a young family. RIP the welcome inn.

Decided to eat here to take advantage of the governments eat out to help out scheme, everyone in our party enjoyed the food and service was good, the one negative was the wine that was served was warm. When it came to paying our bill at the end it seemed expensive considering they said they were participating in the government eat out scheme and we was informed that they were participating when ordering the main meals but we asked to settle the bill at the end. The bill was queried at the time and we was informed that the discount had been applied but when I added up what we had the discount had NOT been applied to our bill, we never received a breakdown of the bill just had to settle the bill at the bar. We had a nice meal but left feeling disappointed and ripped off.

Having spent the morning on the beach we decided on an unscheduled stop at the Welcome Inn for a bite to eat on the way back to our accommodation. We were welcomed by staff who found us a quiet table. The staff were very attentive and friendly. The food was good quality pub grub. I had the burger which I would definitely recommend. The portions were a good size and quite reasonably priced. It was a busy pub and when the rain started, it filled up fast. There was good social distancing in place and the venue seemed to be kept very clean. Anyone looking for a quick snack to a three course meal would not be disappointed here. I didn’t think to take a picture of our meals, it looked so delicious we all tucked in straight away.

Visited this monday (bank hol) whilst on Holiday. Drink ordered and served prompt. Food ordered. Arrived pretty quick. Kids meals came with huge chunky dry wedges which were left by said child. Steak pie delicious. Hake nice but the overall meal dry with the very strange new potato cake and huge salad would much better match with new potatoes and veg. Then it went wrong. We sat and waited and waited .... table not cleared. Waitress shouted to bar man was off for cig snd walked past us twice. Tried eye contact with bar man to no success he then was found around corner on chair feet up on table on his phone had to ask to have our table cleared as had been sat there for nearly an hour then waited another 20 mins for kids desert. I guess scooping one vanilla and one chocolate scoop must take serious skills ???? We were give. A drink whilst waiting for deserts but no discounts offered and then sad kids as missed main part of entertainment at holiday park. Overall a real shame as was a treat to go out spoilt by this completely sub standard service

Had a great family meal in here during the school holidays. The inside of the pub had been refurbished (painted and generally brightened up with extra lighting around the bars). The food was top quality. I had Chilli Con Carne and my wife had Fish Pie. My only complaint, which stops me from giving it a 5* is it's lack of ale, with only one on offer, and it's very limited wine choice, which is cheap and cheerful.

I visit here every month or so to meet up with a friend, its half way between both of us so an ideal spot for us to catch up. We always have food when we go, and I have to say I've never been disappointed as it is decent pub grub. Standard prices around £11, although pricier for steak etc. The menu isn't huge, but I'd say that means what they do offer is better quality. Only change I personally make would be to include a few more vegetarian options. Having said that, the spinach & mushroom pasta was absolutely delicious! They always have specials available as well. The pub has a nice relaxed atmosphere, with 2 beer gardens & a pool table. I have found it to be clean, tidy & homely in the winter with an open fire. Staff are always friendly, helpful & accommodating. There is also a function room with another bar when it is the busy season. They also have live bands on fairly regularly, a great way to spend a saturday evening. All in all, I like the place, the food, music & ability to sit outside which is why we keep going!

We were staying in Dawlish Warren for a couple of weeks and some friends came to visit for my birthday and offered to take us out for a birthday meal,. We have been visiting this area for many years now but have never tried the Welcome, so I suggested we went there to see what it was like. I was surprised by the size of it, but we eventually made our way to the restaurant part, we were met by a very pleasant lady, who greeted us and asked us where we would like to sit.. I had scampi and chips which was very tasty and the others had gammon, the portions were very good. But the best part of the meal was the dessert. We had chocolate brownie, which was absolutely delicious. The staff were very attentive and even answered my question about who supplied their ice cream. We would definitely go there again and can't wait until we are next in that area so I can have another chocolate brownie. We had visited a few times previously and had lovely meals, both from the carvery and off of the menu. Unfortunately on this occasion we were very disappointed. As a couple, we ordered 2 meals plus 2 side orders. Only one meal arrived -(albeit minus the potatoes) and we were told that we had only ordered one meal. We produced the receipt to prove that 2 meals had been paid for. Having told them that the potatoes were missing and that there was also tinfoil in the meat we suggested they took that meal back and brought them both out together when the 2nd was ready. They refused and brought out a dish with the missing potato only. By this point it was the only thing which was warm. The 2nd meal did eventually appear but we were not at all pleased with the service.

Have been coming here for a carvery yearly with the family since I was young I’m now 27 decided to go in today for an Easter Sunday carvery.... walked in looking for a table asked the manager who was working behind the bar about seating there was a big party of us so she asked the numbers and how many was eating however been four different families and not everybody eating I said I’d order a drink while they decided .... she was very rude and then replied “well what do you want then” I understand it was very hot and busy so gave her the benefit of the doubt and then went and sat outside while everyone was deciding on who was having what to eat.... whilst doing this I asked one of the young waitresses where the high chairs were whilst holding my 12 month old she said at the end of the building didn’t offer to show me or bring one to my table .... just very dismissive and didn’t want to help.... we all then decided what we was having so I ordered two children’s carverys one for myself as I don’t eat meat so just wanted veg and one for my 7year old I went over to the carvery counter where a LOVELY male who was cutting the meat served us he offered to get me a bowl for the baby so he can have some mash gravy etc! Then whilst I was helping my son do his food an older lady with short brown hair was so very rude and in front of a line full of people came over and said did you just pay for two children’s carverys I explained I asked the gentleman I paid with if this was okay as I didn’t eat meat and there wasn’t a massive selection of veg! She then sniggered and walked off.... I then went over to the manager who was at the bar ( blonde short hair ) and explained how uncomfortable the lady had made me feel in front of many people she said sorry and that it was her fault as she had sent her she also apologised for been rude when I had first came in and said it’s been a hectic day. So I continued and went to eat my food with my two boys the half way through eating the lady who came and questioned me at the carvery counter came out and stood right by my table to watch me eat I looked up and asked if everything was okay once again she sniggered and walked away.

Booked in here for mothers day for 11 of us. The food was amazing, staff were friendly and helpful. It's the best carvery we've had for a long time, if only we lived nearby. We all agreed it's the best. We would highly recommend this place and we will definitely be back

My wife, daughter, grandson and I were staying in Dawlish Warren in order that we could visit our grandson's other grandparents and their family. They had previously visited the Welcome Inn for a birthday celebration so I decided to book a table for 12 people for an evening meal. I read previous reviews and they all appeared very complimentary. i was not disappointed on the night, we had a lovely meal which was enjoyed by all. The staff were very pleasant and efficient, the waitress read the order back to us and when the meal arrived everything was as ordered. Good portion sizes and well cooked. As previous reviewers mentioned the chef came out to see if we enjoyed the meal which is a nice touch. I was a bit dubious about ordering a pint of 6X, which was the only real ale on, as not yet in peak season but it was very good, clear and tasty. The only problem we had was a delay in the desserts arriving as aparently the chef lost the order. This was a bit surprising as the restaurant was not busy but not too much of an issue as we were enjoying catching up with the other members of our party. The barman chased up the sweets for us and couldn't apologise enough. We are back in Dawlish again in August and will definitely visit the Welcome again. Looking forward to it already.

My parents and I visited this place with some family friends at the weekend as we were looking for somewhere that was serving food before Easter. It was quiet when we arrived but we received a warm welcome both from the wait staff and the chef.

After visiting the area many times this was our 1st time going to The Welcome Inn. Avoided years previously due to bad/average reviews but noticed all the good reviews since new management arrived & thought we'd give it a go. I can honestly say that we both were so glad we did. Both said we had the best meals of the week here - we had been to 4 other local pubs previously in the week. Large portions of tasty, well presented & good food. The chef even popped out to see if we were happy - nice touch! We also found the prices for both food & drink very reasonable.

The food was very good. At first we were the only diners but then a few more came in. It was a very pleasant evening. I had the fish pie which was absolutely delicious and lots of it, enough for the others to have a taste. One had the turkey etc. pie and one had the cod loin and both said how much they enjoyed it. We also had starters and have to say that the pate was really lovely. I think that when word gets around you must make a reservation or else you will be bitterly disappointed.

Lovely food, classic pub grub but done well and reasonably priced. Liver was excellently cooked, slightly pink and soft and packed full of flavour. Service was good, we were checked back on, meals came promptly and cleared when finished. Nice cold wine and kids meals substantial for the price! Only marked down one star as bar is always busy (not a bad thing), but just makes it sometimes awkward leaning over drinkers to order food. However, always highly recommended for both food and drinks.

Sorry to say the service levels are not what they used to be. A welcoming smile would be nice.

Bovey Castle is certainly a beautiful and interesting location. However, with all their grounds parking spaces are a premium. Eventually, we were offered a space in a coned off area. A very well appointed building as your would expect for a Five Star Hotel. We began with an aperitif 'Gusbourne English Sparkling' which was superb. A absolutely delightful bar. Smith's Brasserie! Well, let's begin with the positives. Excellent welcome and staff were fantastic throughout our Birthday lunch. Extremely unimaginative menu to say the least. A nice enough starter. Perhaps would have expected freshly made mayonnaise, not from a bottle, in such an establishment. Pleasant enough bottle of rose, although there was a choice of ONE. My wife (Birthday Girl) and I opted for pasta dishes. Absolutely clueless when it comes to pasta dishes. Packet spaghetti with prawns (four small ones) and a Provencal sauce? Very little of it too. It is an Italian dish and the sauce requires mixing in the pasta. Tagliatelle, again from a packet, with some type of utterly non-descript cream sauce at the bottom of the dish. Totally unseasoned dishes. The cooking water needs to taste of the sea. Therefore, seasoned. No offer of cheese or pepper or pangrattato, nothing, and certainly no theatre. Huge improvements required I'm afraid to make an enjoyable dining experience. Dress Code: Expectations, as you would imagine were high. Staff were smart, but could have been better attired for such a hotel. Clientele: Lots of jeans and un-ironed tee shirts wondering around and dining. A pair of football shorts and dirty trainers at one table, others with feet on the chairs in the bar and the final straw was a couple arriving in towelling dressing gowns and flip flops. NO! Sorry. There's a time and a place and this is not acceptable. Unfortunately, this was a lunch to judge if a weekend stay would be appropriate for our anniversary and it simply is not good enough.

It's a pretty standard coffee shop, nothing particularly remarkable about it but the staff are reasonably friendly and service is usually fast. However it is very busy and noisy! I've always enjoyed the drinks here, although the coffee is pretty average and you can definitely get better tasting drinks elsewhere. Whenever I've sat in though, there has been a constant stream of people that come in just to use the toilet and then walk out leaving the door open (and sometimes shaking their wet hands all over the place), so there is a bit of a smell. It's not really the fault of the store but it is off-putting.

The breakfast filled a hole and was cheap, wouldn't say id recommend it.
