2 sandwiches ( 4 slices of bread !! ) with a few crisps for my wife and me was £26 unbelievable. And they had the nerve to overcharge me by £6 ( after querying was refunded ). The whole place is terribly expensive , never again.

Knocked 2 stars off as the new conservatory is awful and waaaay over packed with new chairs and wobbly dangerous tables with warnings on them! We liked the comfy ones that used to be there but they've moved them into the main restaurant. As we take dogs we cant sit there. Its also a cold dull area which is not great for my 83 year old grandmother. We visit very often and are disappointed. Edit: Really Fermoys, would you eat this slimy bacon fat. This was 60% of the bacon.

The cafe here is superb, a big variety of cakes and food but with a homely feel. Play area for the kids and heated conservatory to sit with dogs. The garden centre itself is interesting with plenty of stock. The highlight for me was the pet and aquatic section. It's hard to find independent aquatic supplies, staff were knowledgeable and stock very reasonably priced with a good variety.

Been going to Fermoys for years as I have a half acre garden so in constant need of soils, plants etc and on a whim garden features. However, I won’t be going back again due to an extremely rude worker in the outdoor plants section (don’t know his name but he had a brummie accent), who needs to realise that customers have a choice as to which garden centre they go to, and there are plenty of others, where they will not be insulted and embarrassed. Yes, my dog did scent mark in the outdoor plant section, but it does not matter if he had done it in the middle of the indoor shop, on his leg, you do not treat customers as he did, shouting out to his colleague how disgusting we are, ensuring all other customers could hear and see us. If he wanted to say something to me, take me to one side and say something quietly, not in the cowardly way he did. He may not care that his employer has lost our and all our friends custom going forward, or the negative feedback across social media, but would perhaps have acted differently if it was his livelihood that depended on customer retention. Looking forward now to exploring some of the other local garden centres and nurseries!

Rather disappointing 😞 I've been going to fermoys for years but today just felt disappointed with it over all. I took my son to the toilet, the disabled loo is shabby, old, dirty and honestly made me want to go home. The doors to the toilets which are meant to be white are so dirty, they are disgusting. Because they are wanting you to look at everything in the shop they are making you walk around the whole building to get to things instead of the little bits where you could cut through, great marketing sense but really annoying for customers. It was disorganised, prices on various things couldn't be found and it was difficult in general to get to where you wanted to go. We went in the cafe, they have done the conservatory in a lovely way and it was a nice place to sit but the cake ,we had a gf one was not really fresh and a rather small piece for nearly £4. So many area's not great. One thing I will say is in general the staff were helpful, kind and fairly smiley. Just a shame because it's a place we used to go a lot but I'm not sure I'd make much effort to go back to as it was.

We visited on 6 September 2024 having visited several Blue Diamond Cafes and Garden Centres. We were VERY disappointed! We ordered a Prawn Baguette which is normally around 10 inches long and filled beautifully with a lovely crispy top. What arrived was a basic long bread roll around the size of a hot dog roll about 5/6 inches long! I complained and was told they had changed suppliers and these were the new baguettes but that there had been discussion about them and it was hoped they would be changing supplier again. On a positive FAY, who I believe was the restaurant supervisor did her best to explain and was very understanding.

I wanted to take some Devon fudge back to friends after our stay in Abbotskerswell. The food produce section did stock fudge. A very expensive Devon fudge (£10) and fudge from: Scotland, Cambridge, Dorset. Perhaps Tabitha’s cakes would do? Made in Leicestershire. 😖 There are plenty of Devon fudge makers in Devon! Please stock local! I did however manage to pick up a fennel plant and a sage plant, guided by a very nice garden section assistant.

I have always used the Newton Pet and Aquatics shop based at Fermoys for buying bird food. Unfortunately this morning I was shocked to see that the pet shop had been made smaller, and Fermoys had put shelves of their own bird food and feeders directly in line with the superb pet shop. I think this is a dreadful, deliberate use of the pet shop (who sell bird food) to sell their own bird food. I won't be spending money at Fermoys any more. I will continue to support the pet shop.

What on earth are you doing? I am a regular visitor to your garden centre, restaurant and to Newton Pet and Aquatics, a local business based on your premises. Visited today and horrified to see that you have not only reduced the size of the space rented by this local business, but the space you have 'reclaimed' has been filled with wild bird food in direct competition with them. As a large business, surely you should be supporting small local businesses NOT competing with them under the same roof. Local people will vote with their feet!

Easy to find and park, lots of beautiful things to look at and the food in the cafe looked inviting. However, the prices are high, even compared to other local garden centres. Another customer was talking to us and said "they seem to hike the prices up, because WE have the money" referring to being a pensioner. So, I know it's not just me that thinks it's a bit much. Saying this I purchased a sale item, 3 lanterns. When I got home they were broken and rusty/flaky - so returned them. The staff were pleasant and helpful, but on looking at others on the shelf, they were also poor quality and condition. So obtained a refund. It's a pretty standard coffee shop, nothing particularly remarkable about it but the staff are reasonably friendly and service is usually fast. However it is very busy and noisy! I've always enjoyed the drinks here, although the coffee is pretty average and you can definitely get better tasting drinks elsewhere. Whenever I've sat in though, there has been a constant stream of people that come in just to use the toilet and then walk out leaving the door open (and sometimes shaking their wet hands all over the place), so there is a bit of a smell. It's not really the fault of the store but it is off-putting.

Bovey Castle is certainly a beautiful and interesting location. However, with all their grounds parking spaces are a premium. Eventually, we were offered a space in a coned off area. A very well appointed building as your would expect for a Five Star Hotel. We began with an aperitif 'Gusbourne English Sparkling' which was superb. A absolutely delightful bar. Smith's Brasserie! Well, let's begin with the positives. Excellent welcome and staff were fantastic throughout our Birthday lunch. Extremely unimaginative menu to say the least. A nice enough starter. Perhaps would have expected freshly made mayonnaise, not from a bottle, in such an establishment. Pleasant enough bottle of rose, although there was a choice of ONE. My wife (Birthday Girl) and I opted for pasta dishes. Absolutely clueless when it comes to pasta dishes. Packet spaghetti with prawns (four small ones) and a Provencal sauce? Very little of it too. It is an Italian dish and the sauce requires mixing in the pasta. Tagliatelle, again from a packet, with some type of utterly non-descript cream sauce at the bottom of the dish. Totally unseasoned dishes. The cooking water needs to taste of the sea. Therefore, seasoned. No offer of cheese or pepper or pangrattato, nothing, and certainly no theatre. Huge improvements required I'm afraid to make an enjoyable dining experience. Dress Code: Expectations, as you would imagine were high. Staff were smart, but could have been better attired for such a hotel. Clientele: Lots of jeans and un-ironed tee shirts wondering around and dining. A pair of football shorts and dirty trainers at one table, others with feet on the chairs in the bar and the final straw was a couple arriving in towelling dressing gowns and flip flops. NO! Sorry. There's a time and a place and this is not acceptable. Unfortunately, this was a lunch to judge if a weekend stay would be appropriate for our anniversary and it simply is not good enough.

Sorry to say the service levels are not what they used to be. A welcoming smile would be nice.

Lovely food, classic pub grub but done well and reasonably priced. Liver was excellently cooked, slightly pink and soft and packed full of flavour. Service was good, we were checked back on, meals came promptly and cleared when finished. Nice cold wine and kids meals substantial for the price! Only marked down one star as bar is always busy (not a bad thing), but just makes it sometimes awkward leaning over drinkers to order food. However, always highly recommended for both food and drinks.
