Popped in to the Hockley Heath Wedges for supplies. Was immediately put off by the so-called manager who was speaking, or should I say shouting and swearing at his staff. The staff; a young girl and a guy, were lovely and couldn’t do enough to help me. The manager, however, was disrespectful and quite obnoxious. I will not return to this Wedges again. Not a good experience.

What can I say?! AMAZING! Great freshly made bread and sandwiches, lovely picnic food too. The quiches are incredible and scotch eggs were fab too. Only thing I probably wouldn’t order again was the sausage roll as the sausage meat inside was a bit cheap tasting, I was expecting better quality meat. Other than that it’s an absolute winner for our family.

We try to pop in once a week whilst my daughter is horse riding at the local stables. We have only ever had good experiences at the bakery, the food is always delicious whether we have take away or eat in and the staff are really friendly. It would be nice for the food to be priced up so you can make a decision before choosing your options as you buy everything blind and it soon mounts up, before you know it you have spent £50.

Have been steering clear of Wedges bakery for some time now as the last time I shopped there the food was tasteless. Tried again today hoping for some improvement but was let down. The pies were awful and only half full of filling. The cakes pastry appeared very dark and burnt and tasted so - to the point that was all I could taste. Complete waste of money and won't be visiting there again, which is a shame as the food was brilliant years ago. A real shame!

Sadly this was a really poor experience. We arrived for coffee and cake. No items had a price on them this makes buying anything difficult. We ordered coffee and cake to sit in. We were handed take away cups and the member of staff pointed at a coffee machine to make our own. The cakes were put in bags. The cakes were good quality but the coffee is awful. Won’t be visiting again. Have used wedges for years but think is dramatically gone down hill.

Popped into this very nice bakery after golf. They had a wide selection of sandwiches that were reasonably priced plus plenty of other goodies such as home made scotch eggs, pastries and, of course, coffee. Spent £20 on the 2 of us; that included 2 granary bread sandwiches, 2 coffees, a flap jack, scotch egg. Coffee was lovely.

Has gone massively downhill . Used to be a great place to eat/drink. Loads of dirty tables . One guy behind the counter was barking at the young lads serving saying ‘if you’ve got nothing to do you can do this’ and ‘are any of you serving?’ when they quite clearly were whilst he was just wandering round the shop saying someone ‘must have been on the weed’ charming. I never spend another penny in places who talk to their staff like dirt in front of customers so this will be my last visit.

Oh dear how disappointed were we to pop back to our local cafe! What on earth has happened?? Queued for 10 minutes before being served - it wasn’t even busy. Staff all looked so fed up no one greeted or said hello. Finally got to be served sullen young girl took order - I was shocked to be served our cakes in paper bags and then had to wait another 12 minutes for our tea to be made in disposable cups ( couldn’t bear to ask for anything else given how slow they were. Been there a lot after Covid when we got a decent pit of tea and nice cups n plates. Come on Wedges, surely you can do better than this. Gave it a 2 as food was decent and it is a nice setting.

Food looks good but the hot cross buns were hard and very little fruit and over priced. “Serving” coffee in disposable cups and from a self serve machine also very poor. Not a good flavour at all and again far too expensive for such a poor quality. I think this establishment needs to decide whether it is a bakery/shop or a cafe - it is currently trying to be both - badly.

Brought a homemade farmhouse fruit cake to use at a family gathering a few days later . When I went to use it I found out that the best before date has expired the day before I brought it . The cake had turned soggy and the sugar on top had started to turn Googy and sticky. I'm not one to leave negative reviews but having contacted bakery about issue and had no response on what was £5.49 wasted I'm not impressed . Maybe me own fault not to check date just assumed it would be fresh . Went out of my way after a visit to NEC to visit this places as I had read such good reviews wished I hadn't bothered and saved myself money.

I made the mistake of buying an Apple Strudel at your bakery today. Not only was it over priced at £2.69, it was totally disgusting with inedible lumps of recycled stale bread amounting to 50% if the entire cake. Whats the lump of soggy white bread running up the middle? Why is there bread in it at all? Totally DISGUSTING, you should be ashamed of serving such revolting food to customers. Id like a refund of the £2.69 that I spent to literally feed the birds!!!!! Look at the attached pictures, especially the one in which I have place a pound coin to help visualise the scale of the bread in this so called Apple Strudel, its more like a soggy bread pudding with few lumps of apple. I will happily supply my bank details for a refund!

We very often visit our local branch of Wedges on Dovehouse Parade on the Warwick Road. But as we were in the area we decided to call in for a cup of coffee in this branch. It was interesting to read the history of the building and the bakery and we sat in a pleasant outside covered area. Unfortunately we were not impressed with the coffee which came out of a self operated machine. Sadly it was not close to the quality of the barista style coffee which is made in the other branch. However the bakery did look to be offering some good quality bread.

Have just ordered from wedges in Deliveroo as working from home and don’t have time to pop out and get something, usually when I order from here the food is fantastic, however today was very different. I ordered a meal deal and asked for no onion, as I’m allergic. (No ability to put a note to say I’m allergic, just didn’t tick the box that had onion when building the sandwich) which I’ve done every time before, unfortunately onion came on the sandwich. There were also pieces of ham when I ordered chicken tikka. I also ordered a loaf of bread as I love their bread and asked for thick cut slices, however it wasn’t sliced at all which doesn’t seem like much, I know but I don’t have a lot of strength in my arms due to illness so the sliced bread would have made my day a little easier. Sorry Wedges, this time around I wasn’t happy but hopefully it was a one time thing.

When wedges first opened it was great. So lovely to have a cafe and such delicious food nearby, especially as Sonia's Bakery before it, had been such a high standard. But I have watched Wedges deteriorate slowly since my first visit. The staff are all quite young now, and non of them seem to have any urgency about them. Waiting for food is slow. Today I bought a takeaway sandwich... simple cheese salad. Usually these are cling filmed wrapped but I was just handed the sandwich in a paper bag - I didn't notice til I got home and the edges were already starting to curl. The tomatoes were green, which the girl would surely have noticed as she cut them. It seems that the produce to make the sandwiches isn't up to standard either The cakes used to be delicious but now are very 'samey' and people's favourites, such as custard tarts and doughnuts are not usually available. I was told they no longer do baguettes, which is a shame. The thing I noticed more than anything in Wedges is the fact that if you buy bread and ask for it to be sliced, the assistant slices it and then takes your money. All without wearing plastic gloves. Surely this is just basic food hygiene. Wear the gloves to handle the bread, and take them off to take the money., or use fresh ones after one transaction. The general atmosphere which was once cosy and pleasant, is now not the same. One of those places where you know, that you could do better yourself.

Came to wedges bakery for the first time, my order was a cheese salad sandwich as I'm a vegitarian or I eat only halal diet. Told the girl who was making sandwiches to please change the board on which you make sandwiches on as I could see meat sandwiches being made. I stated I am a vegitarian. Her reply was yeh yeh that's what we are doing. I was watching them make my sandwich and the man that made it didn't change his gloves or chopping board to meet my requirements. When he gave me my sandwich I asked him did you change your gloves he paused and said oh yes. Total lie. Didn't change gloves or board to make my sandwich. Really disappointed and a waste of my money as I did not eat it due to how and where it was made. Just took my sandwich and left as it was so busy no one listens to busy just taking orders

My wife had a ricotta and spinach pasty which was not nice. Eventually I was offered a salad and this was ok. There were also NO toilets available. I felt this was really strange for a cafe come bakers. (I say this as the majority of visitors were eating in). Disappointing and won't be going again in a hurry. Would have been 1 star if the salad had not arrived. As 10% of the population have some form of issue with gluten - potentially you will be disappointing 1 in 10 people coming in through the door...

Having frequented this Cafe on Dovehouse Parade for a long time, since its inception and using the bakery for years when it was called Sonia's Bakery. Today was the last straw in that the quality, quantity and freshness was lacking, in fact the bacon (2 rashers) in the sandwich was tough, cold and had probably been a long time being kept warm. Pre-Covid the food was outstanding and delightfully fresh and plentiful, not anymore. I've been three times in the last two weeks and noticed a decline in all the sandwiches I've eaten, none of which were as well filled as they used to be. I never write reviews, but was so disappointed I felt it necessary to comment.

Why can't you price the items so people know what they are spending also why are the receipts not itemised. I like to know what I'm spending. Not having to guess what it might be. Also the staff do not have patience so to ask how much each individual cake. Bread. Or sausage would be, I think would really pee them off. Please make these simple changes.

Visited today, 20 October 2019, as staying with two friends locally. Arrived at about 1.45 pm for lunch. My friend was in front of me in the queue and ordered, she turned to ask me if I wanted to be included in her order, but as I was purchasing bread (lovely bread) I said I would pay and order separately (server aware of this). Server went into the kitchen and I stood there for 10 mins while another staff member hoovered crumbs out of the food cabinet with no acknowledgment; she finished and came to ask what I wanted. I asked for a sandwich and she said the kitchen had shut. I explained that I was eating lunch with the person who had been in front of me in the queue and she just said no the kitchen is shut. Went and sat down with my friends while they ate. To her credit the waitress bringing the food out looked taken aback and said she would make me a sandwich, but we were on the way back to Yorkshire and I felt put out so declined. I would recommend the lovely food but the customer service was shocking and I will not return.

I live round the corner from Wedges on Dove House Lane. We have almost stopped using it completely as our experience is so hit and miss in terms of staff getting our orders wrong. My husband popped in today to get us sandwiches at lunchtime. 12.30pm and they had almost completely run out of baguettes and rolls....but are a bakery and deli establishment open until 5pm?? Customers were being told to arrive earlier (its lunchtime...). My husband managed to nab the two last baguettes. He waited 25 minutes for the take out order. Finally he gets the food and on the way out the lady shout to him that she's got the order wrong and has put butter on the sandwich. He just left as wanted to get away. Then at home we have to swap sandwiches and remove fillings and after we finally start eating we realise they are full of salad cream. We've never ordered salad cream in our lives! We both sat there eating our sandwiches feeling really peeved off. Not going there again. It's not cheap but we are happy to pay for good food and a good service. This was once again a poor service and disappointing. My husband has just piped up "getting the basics wrong time and time again".

Used to love coming to Wedges at School Lane, Hockley Heath, but alas no more. The Full English breakfast used to be excellent and one that i looked forward to devouring. But to say the quality has dropped, would be an understatement! Where you used to get a large plate with plentiful food (2 of eveything) on it, it now seems that they have chosen to serve you a small plate with less food on it (go figure ). On my "LAST" visit, I was served up a breakfast that was warm, the exception being the sausage that was stone cold. On informing a member of staff, they duly said that they were terrible sorry and they would rectify it. On returning, the member of staff reiterated how sorry they were. On looking at the plate, i realised it was the same breakfast that i had returned! The only difference being, the sausage had been re-cooked and the rest of the food was still warm. Now at the price of nearly £8 and not wanting to upset a customer, i would have thought the least they could do was deliver a fresh hot (customary for a cooked breakfast) plate of food. On returning the afore mentioned breakfast again, i asked to receive my money back. Which i received with a polite apology. It seems the busier a business gets, the quality tends to suffer. Until such times, where the quality of breakfast returns to the standard of the past, I wont be back!!

Went for lunch. Seating area was very cold, with a tiny electric heater - totally inadequate. Ordered soup + roll and toasted cheese and tomato sandwich, with two drinks. Drinks arrived minus hot milk that we ordered. Sandwich (very dull, no garnish) arrived; soup was tomato so we returned it. Took ages to replace with vegetable. Realised we had been overcharged for the sandwich and a cake which we wanted to take out. Shared our concerns on all of the above with staff and were met with belligerent indifference - one staff member, after arrogantly stating that the price list on the wall was only for takeaway (it actually has both takeaway and eat-in prices) and generally being very dismissive of our concerns, grudgingly said they would 'sort things out' but then didn't return. We left and won't be returning either.

My bakery of choice. Their Granary loaves are superb, and although pricey at £2.08 are consistently good and freshly baked, and warm, when I shop at 9am. Cakes are great, as well as their cooked meats, and they stock Lashfords fine bangers! SS

Arrived at about 14.40, not realising they close at 1500 on a Sunday. Ordered a filter coffee and a tea and a couple of cakes. Was given a table number and sat down expecting to be served seeing as it was almost empty. Nope! We had to get up after about 10 minutes (should have taken 2 minutes, max) and get our order. Filter coffee turned out to be 'Americano', which as usual was a bitter, nasty concoction which is undrinkable black. Nobody told us they don't serve proper filter coffee (which is what we ordered), apparently they just consider anything black and hot to be coffee. Well it isn't, and if you are going to have a massive illuminated 'coffee' sign on display perhaps you should take the time to learn about it, so you don't charge money for the filth you served us today. About five minutes after receiving our beverages, we were informed that they are closing shortly by a stony-faced teenager/student type. Naturally we ignored him, as we had just received our beverages and intended to drink them (the tea anyway, the coffee was undrinkable). However, five minutes later Stonyface informs us again that they are closing and would I like a take out cup? No I wouldn't - if you take our money you can wait ten or fifteen minutes for us to suffer your terrible beverages, or at least inform us before ordering that you are about to close.

Visited today, Sunday 5th August. Menu of sandwiches very nice and I enjoyed the sandwich I ordered. However, atmosphere spoilt by I assume the owner shouting across the seating area at a member of staff and then to find the costs of the food as advertised is not what you pay if you want to eat in!! An extra £1.68 to eat in and nowhere does it say there are costs if you want to eat in! This was confirmed by the young girl who served us when we questioned the bill!! Beware of hidden costs.

Don't bother with the cakes. Unfortunately a colleague (who doesn't eat cake!) regularly buys them for us. They are huge and therefore look very appealing but they are amongst the cheapest, sugariest, flavourless cakes I've ever had. All size over quality.

Visited here today just before lunch! Not a great experience, two coffees, English breakfast and sausage and egg bap almost £18..... wow! Our coffees came and were half full, the lady said they were large too, shocking! Then onto the food, the bap came with no butter which apparently is standard with hot food, the egg was ridiculously over cooked, verging on an omelette! The full breakfast, looked like a lot thrown on a plate, the black pudding fell apart and my friend said overall wasn’t great! Expected alot more, charging a premium for a below average product!

We regularly use Wedges in Olton and that has become our benchmark for good service and great food, but every time we visit the main branch in Hockley Heath we are disappointed by slow service, errors in order, lack of routines and consistency and so on. Today, we waited the best part of 20 minutes for 3 sandwiches, while staff were seemingly taking their time over everything and at one point, after being told off by a senior member of staff, bickering amonst themselves. This branch should be Wedges' flagship, but it's just not up to scratch.

We often go to the bakery for lunch, have to say the bread is the best you can get and the sandwiches are wonderful, knocks spots of anywhere in Solihull although for a change the paninis and cakes are delicious at Theobroma in Touchwood if you prefer to eat in the centre of Solihull. Wedges bakery also sell loaves of their wonderful bread along with lots of other savoury things and cakes and it all always looks inviting.

3rd time here and I usually love it but it took nearly 20 mins for 2 pork and stuffing sandwiches to come out and they added no gravy and were not hot at all, 2 members of staff were sat doing nothing and we were 1 of two couples in the place. It’s obviously gone downhill. Wouldn’t recommend to anyone as there are much better places close that are better value for money.

Normally drop in here to buy all sorts of bakery goodies, cold meats, pies etc. Attempted to do similar today before going for a walk. There seems to have been a bit of a shift in terms of the items on offer and pricing structure. They make a fantastic banana loaf and I fancied a bit today but at £1.99 per slice, sorry I don’t think so. We decided just to pick up some rolls and I left to go to the car. I was surprised at my wife returning empty handed who stated that they have stepped over the line by charging 52p for a small cottage roll. We generally don’t mind paying for quality but refuse to be robbed blind and won’t be back. This is a pity as there are too few home bakers in Birmingham.

Having always received great food and drinks at their Dovehouse branch decided to try their Ilshaw Heath cafe as it is in walking distance. This time we ordered a pulled pork hot sandwich and a steak and onion hot sandwich - no problem. Asked whether they did decaffeinated cappucino - was told "yes" so ordered one. Noticed that they advertised speciality teas so my wife asked what they had - after ages in asking another member of staff and scurrying round in the cupboard listed three only - not including red berry, which my wife particularly likes so she opted for a normal tea. Few minutes later, waitress arrived with the tea and a black coffee. Suggested they might have the wrong table because I had ordered cappuccino. She came back with the same tray two minutes later stating that they don't do cappuccino, so expected me to drink the coffee either black or as a flat white. Surely a manager should have come out and apologised that I had been given the wrong information and offered me a refund or a choice of another alternative! This kind of service doesn't happen at Dovehouse; and they have a proper espresso machine with a milk foamer - why can't they do it at Ilshaw Heath? The good side is that the hot sandwiches were excellent, which shows what they can do if they put their mind to it.

Never had to write a bad review until today, Id asked for a veggie breakfast and my colleague for made the order for our office us over the phone and then went to collect it. When I received the bill of £6.95, I was slightly shocked but nevertheless optimistic still looking forward to my breakfast. Only then when I open it up I was seriously disappointing and irritated, I wish I had took a picture- this is what I received for 6.95 - 1 overdone stuck to the cardboard container-egg, one hash brown, beans, 2 tablespoons of mushrooms, 1 piece of toast and 2 slices of tomato!! Is this a joke-NEVER AGAIN!! Our whole office of 40 people based in Solihull will not be attending again and will be trying Cottage Farm stables- where there veggie breakfast is £4.50 and I guarantee it wont be as pitiful as this.

The main reason for going in was to use the loo! Which was immaculate. Of course we gad to order something, and as soon as I saw bacon sandwiches on the menu I ordered two on brown bread. They soon arrived. The bread was top quality, the bacon thick sliced and cooked to perfection. And the price was very reasonable. Top marks.

This small local bakery and deli boasts a fine array of fresh baked loaves, cakes, buns etc. Folks eating lunch had fabulous looking sandwiches with large portions. Prices are reasonable. For bakery items, prices are competitive with supermarkets and the product superior. We enjoyed simnel cake and our kids giant easter shortbread cookies decorated with large sunny chicks & cadbury mini eggs. The cakes and cookie were only 99p each. The simnel cale was so delicious we bought a larger one for 10 for Easter dinner- better than are usual M&S; one and bigger too. We often buy our bread and baked goods from Waitrose, but this bakery is so much more affordable and better in taste I think it worth a short drive in the country to get there. Staff are friendly and outgoing. Recommended
