st time using today, food portions were OK for a child, chips were definitely not fresh (frozen) liver was rubbery, fish was gooey, £38.85 for food for 4 people disgusting £1.20 per carton of apple juice although they are from a supermarket in a 6 pack which cost £1.69 absolutely disgraceful it says not to be sold seperatly, staff members well I've seen happier tortoises stood there staring whilst we ate would not recommend at all food not fit for a dog

Awful customer service, old / drab cafe, awful staff & overall awful! Would never visit here again in this life. I thought the person serving was rude / obnoxious, angry, miserable, unwelcoming & so did the rest of the patrons. Couldn't finish their blistering hot cup of tea fast enough & get out of there. Maybe she should retire, again?!! Absolutely atrocious service. Less than -1 star. Nil to be exact!!

Went here for tea, had offer on the board fish and chip mushy peas bread and butter, so I order it twice 2 can drinks, shocked at the price £15.70 when the offer was £4.50 each, I asked about this, the fella who give us the food just said, oh she’s given you the high price one. Child’s meal sausages and chips. Chips warmed up awful, the sausage was also warmed up and hard, ( I wouldn’t even give it to a dog.) I know the fish swim in the sea but didn’t know he swam in oil on your plate. Chips been well warmed up. Not nice at all. What I did eat of the fish and oil repeated on me all night. Spoilt my night

Do a favour to the Staff and dont visit this establishment. No custom equals no business and this simply leads to more dignity of people working somewhere else. If you decide to give it a try watch carefully the manager. This will lead you to the conclusion from the post title. Food seems to have cash & carry quality, taste and orgin. Nothing to do with homemade (home warmed up rather) Sparklers served with kids ice cream are NOT atested for children. Eclaires with no fresh cream. Just do not visit for your own sake.

Visited this cafe with my family last night and was shocked at just how low the standard was. We ordered meals for our children and were ushered to the back of this place. Now I understand that utilising space for maximum profit makes good business sense but I had my plate pushed against my chest and so did my wife (and we are both average sized people). The staff were friendly and the manager was pushy and abrupt. The prices were excessive and anyone with an ounce of sense would realise what ridiculous profit margins are being achieved here. To the owner: for God's sake put some investment and effort in, including performance managing your inept Cafe manager. To the customer: do not allow this establishment to leave a bad taste in your mouth when thinking of Blackpool.

We were 2 adults and 3 children, 1 in a wheelchair and 2 in a double pram. We wanted to order drinks and cakes, but as we weren't having a full meal, they refused to let us sit down. With lots of empty tables outside, and the space we needed with the pram and chair, maybe put a sign up, rather than quizzing people what there having then refusing service. not good.

Having seen the amazing looking cakes on display outside the cafe 2 days ago we came back especially to treat ourselves this morning. Biggest waste of £15.80 ever (2 cakes, tea and hot chocolate). The cafe is very disappointing inside - looks like a greasy spoon which is fine if you want an all day breakfast but when paying almost £5 for a slice of cake I expect somewhere much smarter. Cake was very dry, hot chocolate with brandy and cream disappointingly presented.

I have just read some of the 'terrible' reviews and wonder whether these people went to a different place to me. First of all, it's on Blackpool seafront so it's unlikely going to be a Michelin-starred eatery but I found the place to be cheap and cheerful. The staff were nice and smiling and my piece of gateau was the size of Trinidad and Tobago.

Was a freezing day so myself and partner went in for a cuppa to heat up , decided to get something to eat also!! Well. They said it was a chip butty. But two cheap slices of bread with chips threw on top hardly counts as a butty?? Also the cakes are overpriced and the actual seating area is ridiculous. Better suited to a park. And the toilets were filthy, and the elderly lady who served us was decidedly rude and barked orders at poor staff. Avoid if you can

Visited The Waverley Cafe today with my partner for a bite to eat. The lady and young man who served us were both very nice and help ful, but the woman who appeared to be in charge spoke rather abruptly to a staff member in front of people. Menu had a few different options ranging from light snacks to full meals. I opted for the chip butty and my partner had the cheesy chips. Both were priced at £3.95, portions were small and I felt for what we had, both were pretty over priced (as were most things in the menu.)......nit sure I would hurry back here.

After having walked out of another cafe (see review on The Sea fish and chip promenade) we found this little gem just a few doors down. It didn't have the modern appearance of others but the menu looked good. I had the special which is small fish, chips and peas and bread and butter all for under £4. The battery was light, crispy and melted in your mouth and not at all fat laden. The fish was white and flaky. The chips and mushy peas were lovely. My friend had fish and chips which I think they called the Fleetwood. When it arrived the fish was huge with plenty of chips. You could also take away. They also did breakfasts, home cooked meals etc. A little treasure of a place

We love Blackpool, but the same type of food gets old, so when we passed the Waverly it seemed to offer a good alternative. We ordered three coffees, on tea. Two baked potatoes with cheese, cheesy chips and a slice of cake. The drinks and cake came quickly. They were fine. One baked potato came on a chipped (massive chip) dish. Upon eating the other a piece of raw bacon fat was found in the coleslaw. Other than that, the cheese was cheap and side salad was warm (but that was understandable). That wasn't the worst though. The staff all seemed nice enough with the exception of an older lady behind the counter. She constantly told off the rest of the staff (who seemed to be working quite hard). She, on the other hand, seemed to only be preparing hot drinks - and making many errors. One staff member (Robert) got the brunt of her bullying. He was working harder than the rest but was constantly getting shouted at (in public) and being told to do more and more work as she stood and watched on. He had good hospitality skills - you can do better than this place Robert!whilst we were there at least two other meals were sent back. I don't know why.

We were enjoying the breakfast and coffee, that we had ordered, when a bird pood while flying over going in our coffees and food, my friend called the waitress over and told her what happened, she looked like a scared rabbit so we said could we have another coffee and we said it had gone in the food, (admittedly my friend had eaten most of hers while i hadn't even eaten half of my breakfast), the waitress brought out coffees over and took our food away, never brought anything back so when we went to pay for our drinks and breakfasts, my friend said to the member of staff on duty i'm sorry we couldn't eat all out food at breakfast because of what happened, the woman turned round and said well its not my fault a bird crapped on your food, we have inside seating you should have sat inside, my friend said i know but we were sat outside, the woman repeated and we have inside seating you could have sat inside anyway we paid the bill of just over £13 quid and i reckon we got charged for the second cups of coffee because the breakfast was only £3.95 each so that was £7.90, so 2 cups of coffee couldn't have come to £5, not in a tiny little cafe, surely she should have either offered us what we hadn't managed to eat or knocked some money off just out of courtesy but no we just got rudeness, we will never eat here again or have a coffee again and my advice to you is that you either eat inside or take your business elsewhere to a more friendly place and no we are not holiday makers we happen to live here.

We visited the cafe on bank holiday Monday, as my partner (who's favourite food is cream eclairs) was gutted we forgot to visit in October. So we arrived, it was cold so we decided to sit inside, the giant eclairs are marked up in a glass display cabinet as £2.50 so we thought coffee and cake great. Or so we thought. We ordered 2 giant eclairs, 2 fruit shoots, a filter coffee and a tea. It was waitress service, quick (as it was empty), they bought our order over, the eclairs were covered in some sort of chocolate powder and served with more cream, they were overcooked and stale. They were a total disappointment. I ate half and my partner couldn't finish his either. All of the staff watched us eat and drink, yet when my partner said he wanted to pay the young girl who served us totally ignored him and started chatting to everybody else behind the counter, plain rude! He asked her again very loudly and she went round to the till and told another lady what we had and put it into the till... Fruit shoots £1.70 each! And the eclairs were £3.95 each, making it £1.45 per eclair to sit in! I'm totally disgusted and would never ever recommend anybody goes in there they don't deserve the custom serving rubbish to customers

Instead of the usual Blackpool fare of tea/coffee and something fast food, you should try this place, tucked away and set back from the prom, you can either sit out or eat in. You could say the options are limited for a cafe but what you get for your money is more than adequate. A choice of beverages to suit all, and the choice of cake ...... only about 6 to select from but the eyes have a feast with the choice. Once chosen your cake is cut from the display and presented professionally with more cream or ice cream as options. The establishment was clean and well presented and the waitresses were smartly dressed and polite and attentive without being pushy/uncaring.As a break from walking the prom this was worth the slightly high pricing for the choices and because the portion size was enough to satisfy any sweet tooth, you didn't mind.

I must confess that it's taken me 2 decades to actually sample the delightful cakes that the Waverley offer. So the sense of anticipation was palpable when my family and I sat down to indulge our collective sweet tooth one chill November afternoon. Every cake on display looks incredible and to finally try them was a well worth waiting for. Superb portion size, incredible quality and superb friendly staff. I've read some of the negative reviews on here and some people need to really get a sense of perspective. Restaurant seating is for paying customers - that is an obvious one; they're running a business for goodness sake. Not all places have automated payment facilities - so what? It's a mild inconvenience, but hey we coped for 1000's of years with trading off goods and services before a basic cash system came into place it's not the end of the world. Step away from the internet, put the iPhone down and feel some real money in your palm for a change (no pun intended). BUT seriously, it's a numbers game; not everyone sees the cost per transaction and rental of having a PDA link-up with Ingenico for example and the Waverley - which only opens seasonally, can't afford the unnecessary overhead costs. So there you have it. Perhaps if people saw the bigger picture they'd think before they blink, but then again...I had a good conversation with the owner, who was a charming lady indeed and she informed me that person to credit for the wonderful cakes/gateaus was a retired Austrian gentleman who was indeed a master Patisserie chef. Having found that out after I'd eaten I was left kicking myself for over looking the Black Forrest Gateaux - which looked superb. So if you do find yourself hungry between lunch and dinner I urge you to wander down to 199 Prommenade Blackpool and try for yourself. You'll have to wait until Easter 2015 now though sadly, as it's now closed for Winter :o(

After queuing to be seated for a good 5 minutes we were seated in the outside area (which is also annoyingly a smoking area) I immediately asked the waiter if they took cards or any other type of modern payment methods and was told bluntly cash only and he pointed to the close by cash machine to get some cash (which charges an extra£1.90 per transaction!) No thanks. Get with the times please. From now on in my books establishments that do not accept a variety of payment methods and also do not provide an outside area for non smokers get an automatic mark down from me.

Had breakfast here, pretty good service and not badly priced. Weather was good so nice to sit on promenade with a decent fry up. Just a slightly above average blackpool cafe

Stopped in for a quick bite to eat and a coffee. Was greeted by a waitress who was friendly yet not smiley. We were tempted in by the cake stand outside. The building itself was alright, plenty of room and staff. The drinks were as we expected so that was fine. The cakes were as described in the menu, having confectioners cream as well as fresh. The ratio of which was stated as being 70:30 the majority being fresh cream, although the cake itself was quite nice the cream wasn't very nice as it was very heavy and didn't quite taste right which led me to believe there may be more confectioners cream than I thought in it. I wouldn't get another cake there due to this but would try the food sometime as I didn't get a chance.Give it a try but don't bother with the cakes.

My last visit to the Waverley was a very enjoyable one but I must say this time was slightly different. The food was nice but we ordered the homemade lasagne. My lasagne had quite a lot of cheese which over powered the dish & my husbands was all sauce very little pasta & no meat. The meals may not be to the same standard but the cream cakes are still to die for.

Visited this cafe for a coffee and cake with my family. Cakes were very overpriced and of very poor quality had better and a lot cheaper from supermarkets own brands. Coffee was not much better. Would not recommend this cafe to anyone. Dont be fooled by the big cakes on display outside the bit you get on your plate looks like it was cut with a razor it was that thin. Cost £29.50 for a load of rubbish.

Cakes look fabulous but are made with confectioners cream, not fresh. If you like confectioners cream that's fine. I did have to ask before ordering. Front of house staff were great but owner very brusque. Overall a very disappointing experience and won't be going back.

The staff were friendly and the facilities were clean. We did have to wait a little for our order but only 10 minutes as they were busy, and we were a party of 6 adults and 2 kids. Yes it's £4.95 for a cake and £3.95 for a hot chocolate with cream and brandy but it's worth every penny, if that's to much to pay out..you must pay £2.50 for a giant éclair which you can get take away.

Be careful as cake does look amazing but it's not fresh cream, it's some kind of artificial cream which leaves a nasty taste & feeling sick for hours, not good if your expecting fresh cream for the price. Two hot drinks & two pieces of pavlova cost nearly 12.00.

The manageress was obnoxious, rude and arrogant and didn't help at all with the fact we had a baby with us. She made us feel more unwelcome than welcome and to top it off the cake had hairs in and the response was 'oh'. Have just walked away feeling sick! Stay away especially if you have children!

My family and I have been visiting this place for many years now for cakes as they are amazing and still are. However, we will never be returning to this place again. The Manageress is the most rude and obnoxious person I have ever met. We have always experienced her lack of people skills and her rudeness to her staff but never experienced her rudeness ourselves. Many of the times we have commented on how the staff stay there and work for her as she is very rude and agressive to them and I am surprised she has never had a tribunal case against her for bullying. The staff are lovely and helpful but always seem to be looking over their shoulder for the bullying Manageress who quite clearly needs re-training in people skills and customer service. The manageress is definately not child friendly the staff were helpfull but the manageress refused to help. The menageress refused to heat up the baby food, she complained about having us use the babies high chair and told our waitress to ignore us for a while as we were too busy with the baby and to deal with other customers. We walked out without bothering to order so they lost 8 peoples custom that day and we will never ever return again.A Note to the Manageress - You are Rude, Ignorant and unprofessional!!!!

The best Chocolate Eclairs that you will ever taste go see for yourself. I have never seen portions of cakes so big and if like me you have a sweet tooth this is the one for you. Also, if you enjoy mixed grills, again this is the best one I have ever tasted and again a very large portion, you definately get your monies worth.

Just off the Golden Mile but far enough away that you can have something hearty to refuel in peace and quiet away from too many tourists. The cafe is clean and the food is home-cooked. The service is always excellent from Reece and Glen and his team run a tight ship even when busy. I had the fish and chips which was fresh and hand battered and when you consider how many chippy's there are on this stretch of Blackpool prom I would say it was one of the best. Forget the burger bars and other establishments and go here for a quick stop.

We usually go here when we visit Blackpool for lunch. Can't really fault the service and the hot meals are usually enough for us and well priced. However, we stopped one afternoon for coffee and cakes. Big mistake and will not be doing so again in the future in a hurry. For one small coffee. one small coke and 2 pieces of cake, £11. As the saying goes, one bitten, twice shy. Think we'll just stick to the lunches and find somewhere else for our 'afternoon tea'.

We had pudding chips peas and gravy but waited what seemed like ages but a group of people were been served before us. There is one toilet here which is outside!! Little bit like acorn antiques if anyone can remember it! Small portions for the price I'm afraid. There really is better in Blackpool but there's so many out there so might be an idea to speed up and increase portions!

Stopped for a bacon and sausage barm. I was hoping the sausage wasn't a run of the mill catering type but I was sadly disappointed. I do understand that to keep prices low some cafés have to buy cheaper produce but I'd rather pay a little more for quality food. Staff are lovely but won't be stopping again.

You need this Fish and Chips like a pirate needs treasure. Yo ho ho and a squirt of vinegar and all your dreams will have been answered. Hyperbole aside; best Fish and Chips I've ever had.

We had come to see the lights at Blackpool. We got there early as we really wanted to go to this chippy as we have been going for years as a family and it’s always been excellent. We haven’t been for a few years but still thought it was regarded as excellent. We were so shocked. It was awful to be quite honest. It didn’t even smell like a chip shop when you went in. We heard “what you having” and looked up and realised it was us who was being spoken to. We ordered and immediately regretted it. The fish was small and dry and the chips were overdone and mainly scrappy and burnt. My other half said his battered sausage tasted weird and my children left most of their dinner. It’s not good when money is tight and you go out for a treat and come away feeling like it was a waste of a journey and calories. Sorry to say . A family tradition has ended we will never go back.
