Waverley Cafe in Blackpool

We were visiting Blackpool and looking for somewhere to stop and have authentic fish and chips! Popped in here for lunch and the portions were small. Fish was ok but would say a medium portion is small. The consistency of the chips just wasn’t right. Charged for ketchup when sitting in (under why for take outs but when you are spending for a family meal sitting in then it should be included). Popped to the loo and went through part of the kitchen (with fridge/freezers) to an outdoor toilet which had only cold water and no way of drying your hands. Avoid!

Utterly vile, ignorant staff.poor service and food quality IF YOU LIKE SMALL PORTIONS OF MICROWAVE FOOD....THIS IS FOR YOU! WE HAD CHIPS AND WATER CURRY...EVEN THE SEAGULS WERE AVOIDING EATING IT! We witnessed small portions and a few shocked customers recieving their dine in meals! What a shambles SO MANY BETTER ESTABLISHMENTS LOCALLY

What an excellent cafe, it was raining and we called in for lunch with our chihuahua, and we got her a sausage to eat and the young girl cut it up for her and put it in a bowl for and also gave her a bowl of water, Great service, Thank you, from myself and from Duchess.😃

I went in poor attitude and manners very dim and the chips weren’t cooked properly and the gravy was not nice and overpriced

Ordered large chips for 3 50 got a small plate size of an extra small chips, as we waited for food we sat only to be told we had to eat outside would not reccomed chips was not cooked and curry sauce was gloopy

i ordered a cheeseburger curry sauce and chips for £7.50; my sister ordered a sausage and chips for £5.45, my mum and nan both ordered tuna sandwiches & salad on the side we also got a cup of tea and 2 cans of soda came to £28.65. First of all; it looked amazing on the signs and the outside looked great! All a lie. False advertising. Ordered our food, waited an hour for it to come. Cans of soda were £2 EACH. Asked for ketchup, 35p for a squeeze one, worth about 10P at most. food was horrible, chips tasted as if they'd been microwaved several time. Tasteless food, and as for the adults, tuna was vinegary as if it had been left out for too long. The salad? 2 pieces of veg at most. Would not recommend unless you like overpaying.

Had our lunch here on our first day absolutely lovely not massive portion sizes but enough will use again next time we visit

We visited this cafe on Sunday 09/08/20. We was totally disgusted when our daughter got her dinner. She got a sausage and bacon barm, there was 1 sausage and one rasher of bacon on it, and we was charged £3.95 for this . Me and my partner had 2 toast each , a cup of tea and a latte and the bill come to £11.05. As you can imagine we will never visit this cafe again avoid because you will be disappointed what you get for your money.

This place was amazing. Being gluten free in Blackpool has been incredibly frustrating however this cafe was a breath of fresh air, I asked about something being gluten free and they actually had a book filled in. Most places don’t in Blackpool and it’s incredibly frustrating! So this place made things so much easier (so much so we went back for dinner!) thank-you so much guys

Fish Special £3.95 I would not give £2:00 for this the portion size we got was absolutely horrendous to the point we went somewhere else to eat they should say this is a child's portions the fish was so small got about 10 chips and 4 was very hard the fish was the same size as a teenage would I recommend this place not a chance in hell ps not Disabled Friendly had to leave the mobility scooter out side she was in so much pain trying to get in this place then i heard someone say they can not put a ramp out side crap ------ The Disability Discrimination Act was passed in 1995. It came into force in different stages. For instance, obligations on web site operators to make their sites accessible have been in force since 1999.

Went for a meal after a day out to Blackpool and ordered the beef roast, portion size was plenty for my partner and I and the price was good too for what you got! My partner ordered the beef burger meal which he said was brill too. The roasts made the meal though as they were so tasty! Would recommend!

Been here twice now 1st time gave them benefit of doubt the portion size we got was absolutely horrendous to the point we had to go and eat somewhere else an hour later so so poor Second visit was worse than the first the portions Was that bad I couldn’t believe my eyes I even asked for large second time knowing how bad the portions was first visit I counted my chips I had 7 My partner had 5 and my 2 daughters had 5 I’ve spent close to £60 on my both visits there never again they should be ashamed to sell food that poor

We visited this cafe on passing it was clean and tidy and looked very welcomingMy wife and sister in-law had sandwiches which were fresh and delicious whilst I had a home made pie with chips peas and gravy all of which were server with a smile by the staff and tasted very good

I came across this little cafe while in blackpool with family we all had the lamb roast dinner and oh my gid the lamb was to die for it just melted in your mouth the boiled potatoes peas and carrots were spot on and the gravy well what can I say its just LUSH will definitely be coming back for a piece of that home made steak pie chips n gravy soon

Food was disgusting ordered a lamb dinner the slices of lamb looked like a fanny flap been I'll ever since and I didn't even eat it my stomach has churned since it's disgraceful avoid this place if u don't want to be sick wouldn't eat here if it was last place on earth

Visited here yesterday after visiting Madam Tussauds - thought it would be good value, couldn't be more wrong. Ordered four plates of chips with curry and one gravy for myself, my partner and two kids, with 3 cans of pop - came to £16.95!. Took a seat and waited - the food came pretty quick on what I can only describe as side plates with about 10 chips on each! We finished the 'meal' in about 5 minutes still starving. The guy who served us was full of gold - we now know why . Avoid.

This place is shocking I strongly recommend you do not eat here we as a family sat down ordered our food and were all disappointed the kids meal was nuggets as hard as a brick with a few bits which were supposed to be chips I ordered the fish and chips the fish was more like a fish finger and I'm not exaggerating 8 chips at the most the mushy pea sauce I got had never seen a pea and it was expensive what a complete and utter joke I thought blackpool would be serving great fresh fish and chips but not this place it's an embarrassment to blackpool I would never ever step foot in here again we left our food and went elsewhere tough as old leather boots is an understatement you could honestly loose your teeth and that was my young daughter who was brave enough to try a nugget please don't make the same mistake as we did and visit this place go elsewhere avoid avoid avoid read the other reviews save your money tour health and your dentist bill DON'T EAT HERE

It was signage that got us into this place...When you’re looking for a breakfast and see “full English - £3.49” you do not turn it down.We were welcomed and seated by a lovely lady who took our order and advised us on the menu. Within minutes we had our drinks and breakfast and it was brilliant. Tremendous value for money too - I would not have had any qualms had it been more expensive.The cakes at the entrance looked amazing too. A proper cafe with proper people who love hospitality. Highly recommended.

Went to see the illuminations, we first went to two other restaurants which were over an hour wait, there was 10 people in our group, so decided to walk just around the corner. Most of us had fish & chips good size portions not to big, it came quick it was hot & we all sat together, we left shortly after with full belly’s & empty plates, the tea was good too. We will be back. The staff were most helpful too

This establishment is one of the worst I came across in my weeks visit . Breakfast on menu buy told you can't order breakfast but can buy most of the ingredients on a roll . Kids menu is rubbish value giving 3 chicken nuggets and around 20 chips and the adult portions were not much better . The jumbo sausage left the child size (for adult poration apparently) plate greasy the teas and coffee are rubbish value . People were conplain in and asking for money back and staff refused . When the staff were asked for a manager they were told he was not around and they refused to contact the manager . Eventually the staff gave the managers number to the customer to contact the manager themselves . I advise everyone to avoid this eatery like the plague

We came to Blackpool for the day and we came across this fish shop so me and my friends went in.the staff are polite and the place is very clean.i do recommend this place for something to eat

My partner and my self visited Blackpool for the day,we decided to nip into this establishment for some dinner. On giving my order to the lady at the till I didn't feel welcome at this point, not a smile or a hello to be had,she took my order and and it came to over £16 for two of us,she gave me my ticket with number 36 on. I went and sat down,after afew minutes a blonde haired lady shouts out our number I shouted back on 3 occasions, she went to a different tabled gave our meals to someone else, they obviously told her it wasn't their order so I shouted again,she then took the plates and brought them to us. When I looked I couldn't believe it, the size of the portions wouldn't have filled a child the chips where 'scrag ends' the crispy bits at the bottom of the fryer they looked like, my veggie burger was well done on the outside and cool inside, my partners chips was the same and the sausage was like rubber. We asked the blonde lady if they had ketchup, she didn't answer so we asked again she replied there 10P a sachet. The tea was cool and the coffee not much better. Never will I entre this establishment again £16 down the drain I wouldn't have paid £5 for any if it. Customer Service needs looking into too,not a smile or a thankyou from anyone.

Came here after visiting the sealife which is very close to this cafe. We ordered tuna sandwiches and toasties which was ok. I ordered the fish, chips mushy peas and bread special. It was around £4 for this meal. I wasn't expecting a massive fish but the one I got was a joke. All batter with a tiny amount of fish in the middle. Wish I paid the extra and got a proper fish. Shame because the other meals were good.

After walking around Blackpool on Sunday with my family we looked for a nice Fish & Chip shop to eat in. Somewhere not too busy and reasonable in price. We saw this ‘cafe’ that shown a ‘specials’ board outside saying (fish & chips with mushy peas and bread and butter) for £3.95. We decided to give this place a try as we were all very hungry and cold. I myself spent £15 on 2 specials and a childs meal with 2 cans of pop. When it came out my 18yr old lad starting laughing. Honest to god the plate of food came out on what I can only describe as a side plate that looked like it had been bought from mothercare baby section of a small fish and approx 10 chips with a spoonful of peas and 1 extra thin price of bread. We asked the sour faced member of staff to come over to ask was this a child’s portion we had been given as it was so small he replied with ‘it’s a special that’s what you get’ I said that my 3yr old that had 2 small sausage and chips had more chips on than ours. I said to him that’s not acceptable to have 10 chips on a main dish. He never once offered to add too or replace what was clearly missing from our plate.

We stumbled on this little cafe and were all very pleased Had the scamp with fries and salad, fish n chips and the meat pie All very nice Clean Staff not particularly friendly but certainly not rude, it was close to closing time.

I am a (not by choice) Vegetarian, who suffers from not being able to find Cafes that can fulfill my choice of foods, as not only can I not eat meat, but Fish, Herbs and Spices can damage my health. All I ask is for Most available Vegetables. But in Blackpool This seemed impossible Until I went into the WAVERLEY CAFE ON CHAPEL STREET.

although a chippy they serve lovely roast dinners, salads and other hot meals that you don't normally find in Blackpool. Not everyone wants chips with everything !

Fuimos una familia de cuatro en una noche de viernes. Estaba todo muy tranquilo, muy limpio! Tres de nosotros tuvimos el pequeño pescado y patatas fritas y uno tenía una grande. Todo llegó rápidamente y eran deliciosos. Sólo una pequeña cosa sería que no había mucha diferencia en las porciones grandes y pequeños. Nos encantaría volver a visitar de nuevo.

Well it was a bit of an experience calling into this place following a log walk looking at the Illuminations. The Chap that served us had a dry sense of humour and I could understand that some "sensitive" people could possibly find him a little...

It was my first time to this fish and chip shop. I enjoyed my fish and chips and curry sauce. I would come back again.

Grease, grease and more, soggy food, unpleasant staff and not very clean. would never go here again.

Had a lovely cheese and ham toastie with chips and gravy and a lovely hot chocolate out of the rain and in the warm nice and cosy aswell

retro looking,place..excellent food, good value for money.sadly the loo was being repaired so we had to use an old one in the back yard, should be better by now though.

I had some fish and chips in here and coupled with the surroundings, it was passable. I've had better fish and chips and I've had worse. To be truthful they felt a bit bland. Inside felt more like a cold burger bar, not really very inviting. Staff seemed friendly enough but it was nothing special and having found better places in Blackpool at similar prices, am unlikely to return.

Firstly I'm not getting this cafe (?) mixed up with the one across the rd as stated below! I actually called in as this establishment was supposedly established in 1935!!I paid the best part of £20 for four sausage, chips and gravy.The guy behind the counter did his best to divide what turned out to be the warm chips that were already cooked, into four very small portions. He then added sausages which quite frankly tasted disgusting (as though they had been kept warm for the best part of the day!)It was probably the worst food we had tasted from a fish and chip shop in a very long while, and all four portions quite literally went straight into the bin!To add insult to injury he even charged me 40p for four flimsy plastic forks!!DON'T GO THERE!

Adults fish and chips were lovely, nice big fresh fish, and also we found the cup of tea was good too, no cheap tea bags!Only bad point was the kids meal, skingy portion of three chicken nuggets and a minute serving of chips. We had to give her some of ours to fill her up

It seems people are getting Waverley cafes mixed up as there are two this one is across the road from happy days it is a fish and chip shop and its the best in Blackpool in my eyes so I think before you write a review please make sure its the right Waverley as this one is getting a bad name for no reason.

It seems there maybe some confusion on TA as to which Waverley Cafe is which with 2 being listed in Blackpool. I can only say I've visited this one which is on the road opposite the central pier and across the road from the main central car park and police station. I visited with my partner, 2 daughters and mother in law after a trip to the beach. Not wanting the typical fast food we decided on a cafe near where we parked. It's clean throughout with enough seating for a few families. The menu was extensive with choice for everyone. Once we paid and ordered the food arrived within 10 minutes with enough to fill you up. Everything was cooked brilliantly with no complaints. I would recommend the chicken curry as it is unique to what I've had before but tastes wonderful. Would definitely recommend if after a quick tasty meal that doesn't break the bank - £25 for 5 people with drinks.

First of all, this place is a fish and chip cafe so those moaning about steaks and coffee & cake do not do this place justice.There are 100's of chip shops in blackpool and the town is not known for them being any good really. There is no magpie cafe equivalent as at Whitby etc.That said, this place is pretty good. They cook your fish fresh, it's skinless and tasty simple food. Been around since the year dot and easy to see why.If you need some fish and chips and your in blackpool, you will do a lot worse.

The Waverley used to be home to some of the finest steaks in Blackpool, but oh dear, oh dear how this place has gone downhill since I last visited about 4 years ago. The menu is just so basic and it is now hardly more than a fast food outlet, and for what you get it is overpriced.

After walking the Golden mile we needed a well deserved coffee & cake. A order of 1black filter coffee ( tasted of cleaning fluid) 1cappuchino, a paper thin slice of fudge cake and a dried up cherry scone we had the privilege of paying £10.80!! Nothing is priced and upon closer inspection the cake fridge which displays the whopping cakes is not actually plugged in so the cake is sat in direct sunlight & heat all day. When I commented to the staff regarding the chemical coffee she did offer me another ( which I declined) but still charged me for the one I left untouched. We will not be recommending this place to anyone.

This café would never be eaten in by myself or others that I know. I witnessed a member of staff picked up some ice cream from the silver tray on the machine in what looked like a dirty cloth and put it back into the machine again. Also their cakes are outside all day in a glass cabinet and I personally think this is a Health and Safety issue especially in the summer and the hot sun. The pigeons are all around the tables on the outside of the café when people are eating and drinking. I did not have my camera on the day of the incident I have mentioned so could not take pictures. This is my sole opinion of this establishment.

There are large cakes outside this establishment when you study them it just about sums the place up no quality just large and vulgar. I went on a Sunday to meet friends i was a few minutes early so i sat down outside , about a minute later a blonde woman came flying around the corner with a large blender full of scrambled eggs looking perturbed "You just going to sit there till we open ' she yelled at me it reminded me of Enna Sharples auditioning for Coronation Street. I would of left at the point but i had friends coming and I pressed for time. About ten minutes later i went in asked could i get some tea, only to be barked at again by the sharp tongued lady who had never heard of charm. " We are still getting ready" A few seconds later a girl came out i asked for brown toast and scrambled eggs she just moved her head side to side "Only white " my friend asked for mint tea and you would of though she asked for something odd . Avoid it's a shame they have that prime location as it's wasted on them . But i guess they make a fortune on the ice creams ….

We were looking for somewhere to sit as a family (2 girls aged 4 and 2) for Icecream and pasted this place. Sat down and went to order Icecream. The girl clearly saw me get up to get the icecreams and instead of telling me she went to my wife and said we couldn't sit there for Icecream. Therefore I had icecreams 2 young girls to deal with obviously a disaster. More to the point what poor customer service, no one sat down so not as if waiting for tables and worst of it stood there laughing at us. Happy to take my Icecream money tho.

I had spotted the display cabinet of deliciuos looking cakes outside when we were in blackpool 2 yrs ago but could nvr seem to get the place open when going down for walks, so i vowed this time i would get some cake !!!! There didnt seem to be set opening times went down 4 days at different times then on our last day noticed it was opened!! Big sign up saying giant eclairs were £2 so thought cake cant be much more expensive ??!!??!! Chose a chocolate gateaux the lady put a reasonable sized slice in a polystyrene box told us to leave it for while as was in a chill !! When i asked how much i nearly bloody choaked ........£4.95 jeeso i could buy a whole gateaux for that!!?? But i was on my holidays an i was treatin myself x x so i left it for about 40 minutes to come to room temperature then opened the box to begin my treat !!!! Bowfin!!!! it was gross !!!! The one side was all hard and stale where it had been sitting already cut at one side ! It was so off putting and of course they had put that side face down so i couldnt see!!!! I never ate very much of it then threw it in the bin !! What a waste of a fiver !!!!

Visited this cafe on 29th March 2014 whilst in Blackpool for the weekend, what a mistake!We ordered 2 cheeseburger meals with 1 coffee and 1 tea and had to pay straight away. When our drinks arrived they tasted like dishwater, the coffee was just like milky water and the tea hadn't even seen a teabag, so as you can imagine we weren't exactly expecting much from the food...and we were right.The food was utterly shocking, the chips were just deep fried cheap frozen chips and the burgers just tasted like cheap supermarket value branded rubbish that were flavourless, bland and as thin as pancakes, we only had a couple of mouthfulls, looked at each other and just thought 'let's just get out of here.' We just got up and left the food and walked out. All round it was a truely terrible experience, the worst meal we've ever had and it cost us £11.60. This has to be the worst cafe in Blackpool and as the title says avoid like the plague!

We visit this place every year when we visit Blackpool and have done so for about 4 years now. We were tempted in by the delicious plethora of cakes on display outside. Up until now the food has always been pretty good until I tried their 'Fleetwood Fish & Chips' - All I can say is 'Where was the fish?'. If you take a children's portion and cut it in half, 4 mouthfuls and it was gone - not good for £8. Such a shame as it looks like they are aiming at 'One time only' visitors to Blackpool', make money and never see them again.

My family ate here during a day trip to Blackpool. The whole cafe is immaculately clean - including the spotless outdoor toilet out at the back! We didn't wait too long for our food, and when it arrived, we all thought our portions looked tiny. However, it was truly deceptive as we all felt full after eating. The quality of the food was very good and cooked perfectly. There was quite a large step up to get in so not perfect for wheelchair users, but, once inside, everywhere was flat and smooth. A good option if you're looking for quality rather than cheap.

Thought this place looked ok from the outside. Once settled inside and placing order the staff were certainly not thinking about customer service. The food ordered was absolutely disgusting staff were not bothered by complaints and disregarded the m. Never would I set foot in this place again.... Avoid at all costs

I have always found that eating a roast in a restaurant/café/pub is never the same as a home cooked meal - until I visited the Waverley!I had lamb and mint sauce, and enjoyed it so much that I went again a few days, and I shall be going every week from now on.home cooked food just like my nana used to make, with friendly, fast service. very cheap too at £5 for a roast.

Saw the wonderfull cakes as i walked past, and had to stop. Had a delicious strawberry pavlova with extra fresh strawberrys and ice-cream for £3.95. My son had a giant chocolate eclair which wasnt so good, but they had lots of other gateau's that looked lovely. Staff were fine, not rude or ignorant like other reviews say. Would definately go again.

nice food and spotlessly clean, we loved the choice and avalibilty on the menu and the staff were very pleasant too.

From the outside this places looks great for somewhere to go for an ice cream snd coffee, however looks can be deceiving. Speaking to the ice cream vendor outside, he tells us its waitor service, so we go in and take a seat. We wish to order 2 ice cream cones and are told they are for outside only, so we chose a table outrside and order 2 cones. My son and I precide to eat the cones, to be advised by the manager that we are not allowed to sit here as these are for cutomers and ice cream cones are take away only. If we wish to carry on sitting there we would need to have our ice cream in a dish. Which most people when they are by the seaside don't do, also try explaining that to a 4 year old who wants it in a cone. The woman is very rude in her tone and when my husband offers to purchase some ice cream in a dish he is advised that she will not serve him. The woman also was very derogatory to the man sell the ice cream regarding his nationality, which in this day and age should not be allowed. This is the worst customer service I have ever experienced from a coffee shop / cafe trying to be 'up market' but failing miserably. Any way like anyone else is likely to sit outside on damp seats on a cold November day.

Excellent cakes displayed with excellent tastes for only a couple of quid a slice never had a problem with this place been last few years :)

Went to Blackpool for the weekend to visit the illuminations, to start with we visited the pleasure beach and was pleased to have a lovely day and to of visited a reasonable priced cafe where we all had coffee and cake for £8, the following day we walked the prom and stopped off at this cafe-the cakes looked nice in a glass cabinet outside, we thought we would treat ourselves. They were priced £2 for an eclaire which we thought was a lot but we wopuld treat ourselves, we ordered 2 and 2 coffees and the kids had an icecream and a choic fudge cake. When the food arrived we were so dissapointed, the fudge cake was so so dry we all had a taste and it was horrible, my partner and I had an eclair and they really were as hard as bericks with what tasted like evaporated squidgy cream and my daughetrs ice cream did not taste right-the coffees were just ok. When I went to pay, I commented on the cakes being dry and not great and the woman just looked at me as I was mad did not attempt a refund or money off, nothing, they could tell we hadn't enjoyed due to the waste surely????? Then,,, the price,, £17.50-I nearly fainted-they had added on a pound per horrible cake of theirs, just to sit down-I nearly fainted-felt like I had been robbed, was mortified, especially as we had eaten the day before in the pleasure beach for £8 coffee and cake and lovely service, this was just horrible-would never ever try this place again, big rip off and bad customer service!!!!!!!!!

Came to this cafe last few visits, and never had a complaint about the food, the decor may be all formica, but the food isntWould say this is good for a quick bite in if you dont want a big or expensive restaurant

We've been dining at the Waverley for years and were not disappointed. Great atmosphere, friendly prompt service and the food was lovely. See you again when we return.

The food we had here was brilliant, lovely big portions and excelllent value for money, am looking forward to my next trip to Blackpool to eat here again

Had my lunch here Sunday, 30th October, 2011. I had the roast beef and yorkshire with vegetables and gravy, for just over £5 this was excellent value for money and it was delicious - I cleared my plate! My partner had a muffin and a cup of tea which he said were fine. I would recommend anyone to eat here for a good value lunch.

Was in Blackpool last Sunday went into the Waverley cafe for bite to eat,and am been honest would not feed my dog it, fish and the smell was unreal and my old socks smell better,so please keep away for your own sake

We had veggieburgers at this cafe. It was clean and airy inside, and the service was prompt. We had to wait for the burgers - they had none warming - and they were OK, although they got a bit mushy towards the centre. They were probably cooked fully, but definitely hottest at the edges. Maybe if they'd pre-cooked a few then they'd be evenly done.
