I have today visited for the first time with 8 other family members one of which being my 102 year old grandmother in a wheelchair. On arrival at about 1230 there were only 3 or 4 other tables in use and we had booked with plenty of notice. We had taken a small birthday cake to give to my grandmother as it was her birthday today and we had intended to give this to her after lunch. On handing this to a member of staff who we later found out was the manager ( NEL ) who was less than helpful stating " WE DON'T NORMALLY DO THIS " and then saying she couldn't help us as she didn't have a lighter. Her whole attitude and total lack of customer service and courtesy was the worst i think i have ever seen in a hospitality environment. We decided to ask for the cake back and thought we would enjoy this later in the day when back home. Some time later NEL came to our table and with the same total lack of interest asked if we were ordering when i enquired about the possibility of my elderly grandmother just being able to have a cheese sandwich again NELL stated " WE DONT DO THEM " and " YOU HAVE THE MENU THERE HAVE A LOOK AND CHOSE SOMETHING FROM IT " The rudeness displayed by NEL was such that I had to take a couple of seconds before I spoke to one of the other family members and asked if we really wanted to stay and eat in this venue to which they felt they didn't want to. At this point I asked "NEL" who held the licence as I had intended to speak to the owner/manager and I was amazed to find out that this same person "NEL" was in fact the licence holder. I explained to NEL that we would not be staying to order lunch and that her attitude had been disgusting and that she should know far better when communicating with customers. She told me that she had been stressed and that they had been busy which if this was the case and causes her to react in this way then perhaps she needs to consider if she is best suited to running this type of business . It is a shame that now following on from the pandemic and being able to welcome customers back to these sorts of venues that a manger/owner of a business would want to treat customers in such a poor way.

I went in here feeling very hungry after playing two hours of tennis. I ordered the all day vegan breakfast and an Americano coffee. The food was terrible, swimming in fat and overcooked, like it had all been cooked in a deep fat fryer. I was so hungry I ate it, my big mistake, as for the rest of the day and evening I had bad indigestion and nausea . I complained to the manager who was polite and listened and apologised before going to talk with the 'chef' . I was offerred no refund, no offer of a replacement meal cooked properly, nothing. It is expensive here , and at £12.95 you expect reasonable quality food, and at least to be cooked properly...I used to be a breakfast chef in a 4 star hotel so I think I know a little about cooking breakfast. To top it all was a piece of hard toast just plonked on top of the meal and oozing far too much margarine, added to this the coffee was really weak and tasteless. A really bad overall experience with no offer of recompense in any form.

We moved to Portsmouth 4 months ago, and have been trying out all coffee and breakfast places. This is our best so far.. what makes the difference is quality ingredients (I had a breakfast bap, my wife a veggie burrito) and both were spot on.. we so often get flat white coffees filled large like a latte but these were perfect. The waiter was very pleasant and staff friendly. Only niggle was the tinny radio sound from the kitchen.. our dogs also liked the free treats! Good job and keep up the standard 😃 we might also join the tennis club as a result

Had a Latte too and that was lovely & smooth too. The whole experience was top class. 100/100. Highly recommend :)

Having visited this venue many times and often saying I will not go back due to awful attitude of some staff. This weekend was the final straw when the manager for that day was aggressive, confrontational and extremely rude. One member of staff had told us we could move a table when we asked ( he was lovely and very polite) but she came storming over to us and grabbed the table and was so incredibly rude, not listening to us when we said we had asked permission and been told yes it was ok. Her aggression was alarming to say the least and quite honestly I have never seen such awful behaviour from someone in hospitality! Never again will we return

The worst service I have ever experienced. Admittedly we were a large group and we sat outside, however we waited 45 minutes for a takeaway cappuccino and a slice of shortbread which were at the counter. All that was required was to put it on a plate. We had to remind the staff over and over of our order before it finally came. The staff appeared disorganised, no structure to how they were delivering their orders and were quite rude when we were questioning where ours was after 40 minutes or so. I wouldn’t return.

Some training required. We wanted sugar in our tea. The waitress brought a sugar container, (glass jar with metal funnel), and proceeded to attempt to put the sugar into the cups herself. Never come across this before. In any case, a) the funnel was bunged up and the sugar wouldn't come out and b) there were sugar sachets available which it obviously hadn't occurred to her would have been more sensible to offer us. Never mind. The food was excellent.

We go here quite often and have always enjoyed it. It is a lovely setting, especially in the summer when the roses are in full bloom. We thought it would be a great venue for our wedding reception and booked it 18 months in advance; pre-covid. With so much uncertainty about whether it would go ahead, how many people we could have, could we mingle etc, it was a nervous time but Nell was absolutely brilliant, patient and very flexible so that even with changes on the day before, everything went perfectly. We decorated the place and a hired marquee ourselves and the team were on hand to help with all of that to make it look really lovely. The food was excellent, fairly priced and cooked perfectly on the barbecue. It was impressive that everyone was served at the same time with really lovely meals. They also managed to accommodate a wide variety of specific dietary requirements. On the day itself, things could not have gone better. The attention to detail was spot on and the staff were always on hand to make sure everyone had what they needed. We are very grateful to Nell, Tilly and the team for making everything so perfect.

After standing outside for 15 mins i went in as i presume they had forgotten us, they hadn't. Was asked to wait outside again. The people outside then started getting their coffees and food. One poor lady in front of us waited 30 mins for one cup of tea!! we had to wait 25 mins. It was laughable, if we weren't in a rush i would have got my money back. The place was totally disorganised. I had visited the previous week and felt that the food wasn’t very good. However, my husband and I decided to give them a second try. We took a seat in the garden and were told by another couple seated on the next table that it was table service but that ‘they weren’t very quick’. We decided to be patient but waited at least 10 minutes just for a menu despite there being only a few customers as it was late morning not lunchtime as yet. Since no one even looked our way we gave up and had to shout over to a waitress at another table to ask for menus. We ordered, then waited an age for coffees which came with no sugar. We asked for sugar and the waitress simply forgot to bring it out to us. We then waited a further ridiculously long amount of time for the food to arrive (a bacon sandwich and a breakfast sandwich). When it arrived it was cold and the bread had clearly been stood for an age as it was dry. The bacon was rubbery as though it had been put in a microwave. Throughout all of this the person that we discovered later was the manager was talking on and off with friends and ignoring what was going on around her. We did complain to the manager who took the money for our sandwiches off the bill which was fair enough. However, we are unlikely to return and as we are locals this is a shame and we certainly won’t be recommending them to friends.

First my coffee was spilt by my waitress and they didn’t make any move to replace what was spilt and if lost about a third of the cup. Then they bring out the wrong food (the same plate was paraded around several times) we kept saying we had ordered pancakes not a bacon sandwich. They insisted it was our fault even though the girl at the counter read my order back to me at the time of ordering. They then made my boyfriend go inside to pay the £1 difference. Once they came they were just not good. The pancakes were too thick and dry in the middle. The bacon was undercooked. Also who serves back bacon with American style pancakes!?! Overall we didn’t even finish one portion between two hungry people and were sorely let down.

I informed him it wasn't and that the chips were uncooked. He said nothing; just gave me that look of "Do you really think I'm bothered." Unfortunately this is one of those places that you pay in advance and get served by people on minimum wage. Of course they aren't bothered. Never going to extract another penny from my pocket!

As it was a midweek lunchtime the place was full of small babies and children but surprisingly it was not 'manic' as places full of children often are.

Very disappointing, the table was sticky pointed out to waitress who said it had just been cleaned, she did do it again, but was still sticky, whole table, we had to put down napkins, and they stuck to table, we had ordered drinks, tea was insipid tasting, my cup was filthy, pointed this out new cup bought over, milk jug looked grimy inside, luckly I had ordered black tea, although milk bought, there was food on floor, door for entrance was grimy with dirt, toilets untidy, paper all over floor, didn't look like they are checked throughout day, handle sticky, gardens unkept, looks down at heal all over, menu's were easy to read which is a positive, staff pleasant, but wouldn't inspire me to return,i think it doesn't represent Portsmouth hospitality in a positive light at all,

We have visited Watkins and Faux for breakfast on a number of occasions now and are never disappointed. The menu has plenty of variety with a couple of twists without being weird. Staff are very helpful and service good - if the food is going to take a while ( when busy) they tell you.Food is very good ( The "Big Breakfast" is!) and the pleasant surroundings contribute to making the whole experience great - for kids and even dogs (bowls and free biscuits!!).Only minor observation - cutlery is very "cheap" and uncomfortable and doesn't match the rest of the experience.

A lovely, classy venue, in a superb location and serving excellent food. Breakfast is always a winner! For those who have found the presence of children a problem, this is a family cafe and there is a splash pool located right outside - that the place is family friendly really shouldn't come as a surprise. It's a lovely spot on a bright summer's day, highly recommended.

Nanny and Grandad popped in here with our 9 month old grandson after a dip in the nearby Splash Pool. We were hungry, he was hungry, so once we had ordered, we gave him the beginning of his lunch, because, as you know, kids of this age do not tolerate slow service. Thirty-five minutes later, the grownups had still not received their meal. The lad's food was gone, and all he wanted to do was to move onto life's next adventure, and was consequently becoming extremely frustrated. Nine month old babies have a range of effective methods of conveying this. After questioning the staff, our food at last arrived, so we rapidly bolted it down, and got on our way. No apologies, no explanation. We have a case here of either simple incompetence, or the not uncommon error of prioritising takeaway orders over sit-in orders. The restaurant was scarcely one-quarter full, and other family customers were demanding to know when their food was coming. Wouldn't take kids in here until the management can assure Trip Advisors that today's delays will not happen again.

Nell and team couldn't do more to help craft the perfect evening (despite our regular changes/updates) and put together a plan and a menu to suit the occasion. The food was absolutely spectacular, some of the guests said it was the best they have ever had! The venue looked beautiful and the team made sure everything came together perfectly. It was a sunny Sunday morning so we decided to sit outside and have our breakfast at Watkins & Faux. We were staying at the Queens hotel but I had seen this place and Tripadvisor so we thought we'd try it out. Only a 5 minute walk from the hotel we came across this lovely tennis club. We ordered a big breakfast, eggs royale, poached egg on toast and toast and jam. We also had 4 cups of tea. All together it came to about £33 which I thought was quite reasonable. The portions were a good size and we all came away very satisfied after a tasty breakfast. The menu was very varied and I would definitely recommend a stop here especially on a lovely sunny day.

I called in for some lunch to be greeted by a friendly face who was quick to pass me a menu and point out the 'Specials'. Dilemma time. What do I choose? I opted for a Breakfast Sandwich - So glad I opted for the Sourdough bread! The sandwich was so thick I chose a knife and fork to avoid dripping the orange egg yolk down my tie. As for taste it was sublime, everything was full of flavour - herby sausage, bacon that was well cured and not full of salt, an egg that as I mentioned previously had a yolk so orange if it wasn't free range I'd love to know what the chicken was fed on! Then the bread, oh the bread... Baked locally cut thick generously buttered with proper butter it tasted like bread tasted like when I visited my grandparents as a child. I've probably lost some readers by now but if you've lasted this long next time you visit Southsea / Pompey this is a MUST. It isn't cheap but I do think it's fairly priced given the quality of the food.

This café in the tennis courts at Southsea has a great menu and very good service. My wife had the fish finger sandwich, which was outstanding in sourdough bread. My son and I had the quesadillas which come in a range of flavours, and both of ours were excellent and very flavoursome. The smoothies, named after tennis stars, were also an interesting alternative to our usual Diet Cokes! The building is quirky and pleasant, and the service was great and friendly. The toilets, which are apparently run by the council (probably as this is a former tennis pavilion) are the only thing that lets the place down, but forewarned is forearmed, so you won't be surprised! We would definitely eat here again regardless.

After a long wait 2 children's breakfasts came out, and the kids made short work of them, they were a very good size and the bacon and sausages were a very good quality. After a little wait the rest of the food came out. The club sandwiches were huge although we all agreed that it would be better served without the third slice of bread, as there was so much. The quesadillas were unfortunately incredibly greasy, It took 2 thick napkins to soak it all up! I'm not really sure why they were so much more expensive than the normal sandwiches on the menu? They didn't have much filling in them and we're really the only thing that let the experience down. The kids loved the play area!

We experience five dogs who were all very good, I wouldn't bring ours as no guarantee of good behaviour!Childrens play area and family seating area looked really good for those with younger children - mine is eight so had out grown it.Great service, food was fabulous and reasonably priced, Fantastic coffee the best Cortardo I've had for a long time! Someone clearly came to work infectious.PS The toilets (which do clearly state they are run by the council) were HORRIBLE.

Its usually busy with lots of families with young children and I love bringing my grand daughters here. I joined some friends to celebrate a birthday. I have been here before and was disappointed at the size of the smoked salmon and scrambled egg breakfast. I decided to have the veggie breakfast asking for scrambled eggs. This was repeated back to me and I heard the person taking the order again repeat the order whilst putting it into the till. We were advised there would be a 20 minute wait. This wasn't a problem as we were all chatting. When my meal arrived it was with fried eggs, not scrambled. I said mine was with scrambled eggs and the server disappeared. She reappeared with the same plate of food and said the chef was too busy to rectify the error. She said it was an error between till and kitchen. I appreciate they were very busy, but I would have liked an apology. I felt that it was like it or lump it, hardly the way to get repeat business. i could see the server was very busy, but the offer of a free cup of tea wouldn't have gone amiss and I probably wouldn't be writing this review. Other members of our group were also disappointed with their meals eg avocado on sour dough no chilli oil as advertised.

We popped in today for our lunch and it was lovely. The staff are very friendly and helpful. It was very busy but the staff was on the ball. We ordered 3 adult meals and a kiddy ham sandwich for a very fussy little girl. The sandwich that came looked really good, but she did not like the ham as it had mustard on it, so my daughter asked if we could change it for a poached egg on toast. I was quite prepared to pay extra as it was our grand daughter who did not like the food and nothing wrong with the dish. The staff insisted that there was no extra cost as they had used the mustard ham rather then the childrens ham. Our food was excellent very tasty and nicely presented and the food was served really quickly considering how busy they were. Full marks for the polite staff and tasty food.

What I love about this place is that you can take your kid there and if they are having a meltdown, no one cares. Because everyone's kid is having a meltdown. But somehow when everyone's kids are whining in harmony you kind of stop hearing it. No one casts an agitated look your way, so you get to eat in relative peace. The food is good, I'm one of those vegan types and I never struggle to find something tasty. Good beer on tap, lovely location...tennis courts and a sweet little kids water park thing. We basically go every Sunday and have a gay old time. I dropped a star rating because of the ventilation....can get a bit smoky if it's busy, but it's not like you're there for hours on end, you can stifle through the food fog.
