Our go to coffee shop in Hull. Very pleasant staff and wonderful coffees. Only criticism is- please don’t put out packet mince pies (6 for £1.25) and sell them at £2.50 each. It really is insulting. Get a local bespoke baker to make you some. Then you can charge £2.50. As most people are counting pennies it really is bad to blatantly upset people. A local baker will make you a dozen with real steeped mincemeat for maybe £6/7 .You would also be helping a small business. Dissapointed, and everyone in the queue, and the cafe, was making comments.

The coffee is the best for value in town, still under £3.00 a smart move when you consider Costa and Starbucks current prices for similar products. AND ... you can tell the Baristas take pride in their efforts. The consistency is good. Pete and the Manageress are particularly friendly others have their moments. For me this is so important for repeat custom and more often than not how i decide where to go. KEEP IT UP ALWAYS A PLEASURE!

As a family we love book shops and can spend hours in them, so to find one with a coffee shop as well meant we were already happy. We'd (family) spent about an hour wandering round the ground floor of Waterstones, so things were getting tiring and we all felt thirsty. We decided to check out the upstairs cafe (1st floor but they have a lift). Once you've climbed up the staircase you will find yourself facing the cafe area which is set to one side of the top floor. It's a mix of comfy seating (sofas and chairs) plus tables and chairs, that can fit any number of people as required (we were six so we pulled a few extra seats in to our table). The comfy seats are just that, especially after a few hours walking round shops. It's a self service set up, you grab a tray and then choose a light bite from the chiller cabinet (sandwiches, toasties, panini's etc), with cakes on the desk next to it before you reach the till. They offer the usual range of tea and coffee options with extras like hot chocolate and chilled drinks. It's a good cafe set up that allows you to either sip a hot/cold beverage and have a light bite to keep you going. We had a mix of cakes and hot toasties with soft drinks and coffees. The service is very friendly and if ordering hot food they will bring it to your table. Cost wise it's about average for the area and the type of cuisine. You get a variety of people sitting there, some read books while others simply chat, it's a fairly easy going atmoshere. You can go to Cafe Nero, Costa or any of the nearby coffee shops for the same fare, but the addition of the book shop makes it slightly more special. People who go there are prepared to take their time so you can relax without being squeezed or pushed by others rushing in and out. It's well worth a visit, and you might also find a good book to read as well...

Agree with previous reviewer; decent coffee, really good fresh scones, and can vouch also for the toasted teacake. Inspection copies of books are scattered around to look at. Staff are helpful, and it's a peaceful quiet refuge from the hustle of town., even though it can get busy.

We were looking for an afternoon tea and treat and found the cafe by accident, and were certainly not disappointed. As late afternoon, in a cafe you purchase a scone it is usually made that morning and hard but took the chance and glad that I did, the cherry scone was so fresh and very yummy. The Victoria sponge was delicate and very tasty. Well worth a visit if in Hull and after browsing the books.
