Dissappointed. Looks the part on entry. Glasses were dirty and needed a good wash. Furniture looking very tired. Shame as the atmosphere was good.

Really good food including Vegan options. Good range of beers. Friendly staff. We will definitely be visiting again when we're next in Hull.

One of the standout venues on our recent trip to Hull. The lunch menu is great value for money and the food is lovely.

Great friendly place! 🍽️ Was lucky enough to get a table straight away. Ordered drinks and was told there was a 45 minutes wait for the food, which wasn't a problem. Ordered some cocktails while we were waiting, and they were fantastic and reasonably priced. Ate here after work and loved the welcoming lights in the window especially on a cold dreary evening. Had Tacos with fries and a pint of cider ..... Not many folk in at this time but the place had a very calming vibe to it.

The head of Steam is a great pub with a good range of beers. The food is very popular, a good place to call in for a drink or a bite to eat if you're in the Old Town. I've called in for a drink with a couple of friends and enjoyed it, and being with the large group on an evening pre booked a table in advance had a good time. The food was very nice. Friendly welcoming staff a good atmosphere.

Popped in for lunch and a beer. I had the onion bhagi burger with Sri Lankan curry and it was very nice. There is a good selection of beer of different strengths. The staff were very friendly and let you take your time.

The lady who served me at the bar was absolutely amazing she was so personal and made me feel so welcome. Her name was Emily. Fantastic!!!! She needs a pay rise!!!!!

Great place, lovely food with fantastic service

Firstly, let me say. The food was amazing, The people that served us the food and drinks to-night were the best I've ever had. The drink and food choices were amazing. I'm not vegan/ vegetarian but I love how inclusive this place is I plan on coming back again since they serve neck oil

We booked a table for Saturday tea time for 7 people, and the booking stated that one of the guests would be an 18 month old which would need a high chair. We went to the bar to tell them we were here for a booking and when we shown our table we were seated at one of the two high tables in the whole place. There was no high chair set at the table, so I asked for this and they brought the usual wooden pub highchair over, but if my daughter sat at this at the table her head would be under the table, how were we supposed to have a meal with her like this? We asked if we could be moved to a low table, which there was a large one to seat all 7 of us at where there was one man having a beer, and the next booking for that table was 2 hours later, so we would be gone before the next booking. The bar staff said that he couldn't ask the man to swap tables, unsure why, and the only solutions he had was for us to sit at a table for 4 (way too small and cramped for our party size) or for him to swap one of the high tables for a low table, so we opted for this. However, because the high tables were up against a bench seat it then meant that my husband had to be wedged in behind the table so that there was enough space for me to sit down and not be bumping in to the table behind me. It also meant that we couldn't really speak with the other members of our party as they were sat a good foot above us. Safe to say, I will not be recommending to any of my friends, especially ones with children, and we will look for an alternative next time we visit the area.

Walked in to this bar accompanied with some old friends after following their recommendation. Really friendly atmosphere and ambience. Super friendly staff and a really nice place to be. Looking forwards to returning.

I enjoyed my experience at the Head of Steam Hull.

Head of steam hull is delightful and cozy smaller than others of its name like in Leeds the staff are friendly and fun to talk to and the food is amazing. I always enjoy visiting with my partner she loves the vegan options on the menu they always blow expectations out of the water.

Lovely pub in Hull’s old town. The team are lovely and so helpful and the beers and food reflect the spirit of the employees. 5/5 will come again for their excellent vegan range!

Went to this great pub on Friday afternoon, quite busy. Had some lovely "Battleaxe bitter" and then followed with a festive pizza, fries and onion rings. The pizza was delicious and had a lovely cranberry topping, really tasty and very good value. Fries and onion rings were lovely. This is a very good pub to visit. The staff are lovely and very friendly. Well done, Head of steam....

Great pub, interesting beers, food fine staff wonderful

Friday afternoon and the pub was fairly busy and had a good atmosphere. Had several "Battleaxe" bitters, very tasty and a good pint of real beer. I was hungry so had a festive pizza, topped with chicken,stuffing, cranberry sauce it was lovely. Had some fries and onion rings too...massive portion of fries. Everything was tasty and beautifully cooked. The star there were all very friendly and made me feel very welcome. I thoroughly recommend this great pub in Hulls Old Town.

Really great place. Excellent Vegan options on the menu. It was nice to see that the beers were also labelled if they were Vegan which I haven’t seen before. Great service and very friendly staff.

Cracking little pub with Guest ales and fab food.

Head of Steam is usually quite a reliable spot for a good range of craft beer in a nice environment. This pub is nicely laid-out and does indeed have a reasonable selection of craft beer, which is positive. The beer seemed reasonably well-kept, but there were some negatives that impacted the enjoyment. Glassware. Glassware is important. Being served my not-inexpensive pint in a manky, worn-out glass that's at least five years old, has been through the dishwasher so many times the branding has scrubbed off, is the wrong type of glass for the beer and should have been retired before the COVID pandemic somewhat spoils the product. Price. If you're going to charge £7 for a pint that costs £5 elsewhere, you need to do it well. And it isn't done well. Probably resting on the brand a little bit too much at this branch. Could do with a full refresh of the ancient glassware (not one pint of the party of five was served in a decent glass) and a look at the pricing. We're not in London.

Didn't eat but food coming out of the kitchen looked spot on. Pizzas, burgers, tacos,wraps, gyros etc with lots of vegan options. Excellent selection of beers, both on draft and in the fridge. Had local brews alongside Belgian beers, IPA's, international lagers etc so something for everyone. Partner had a decent glass of wine too. Nice bar in a good location. Would recommend a visit.

Walked in unbooked and we were accommodated with no problems. Very polite and helpful staff. The bar and restaurant was very clean and tastefully decorated with quirky features, an excellent choice of beers and a fantastic menu which includes many vegan options. We opted for the bourbon burger and cheesesteak, side of onion rings - faultless with excellent quality ingredients, really nicely presented. The service was excellent from start to finish and the atmosphere was great.

The best spot for food and a beer in Hull! Fantastic vibes. Great food. Lovely staff Happy days! I will continually come back here every time I visit.

Drinks were lovely great selection and customer service was good. Disappointed with the food ordered the triple stack burger for the price paid it didn't live up to expectations: portion size was small and the bun and chips tasted stale and the burgers were small and hiding in the bun. I'd recommend for drinks but with all the options the food does not stand out to be at the price point.

So disappointed with our meal! I had been a couple of times before and the food was always great but last night the burgers were very small the fries were hard and practically had no potato in making them hard to eat, which actually we didn’t. If you wanted to see the burger you had to lift the bun which shows the lack of size. I would have given my feedback at the time but no one came to see if it was ok. The staff were very efficient and lovely on the bar. Sadly we won’t be returning.

We went for tea prior going to the theatre We were very disappointed when the chairs were ripped and filthy dirty!10 of us squashed round 3 little tables two people had to eat their meal on their knees! Food ok but not alot of it two people had the gyros and left half of it dry not dressing the sea food taco was a very small meal! The staff weren't that helpful we had to ask when our food was ready after sitting for half an hour!Not a great experience

Came for some lunch on a Sunday, the place was very quiet (think it was just me and my partner). Food as quick, lunch menu is super cheap! A meal for £8, and add a drink for £2.50. We got a Chicken Gryos and Fish Taco from the lunch menu, the Gryos was nice, but Taco was small as we only got 1. We also got a burger and it was lovely too. Would definitely come back, but just probably not the Tacos. Nachos were amazing, best i've tasted. Cheap too.

A enjoyable afternoon with friends on a catch up. I've picked three of the bars of the numerous we vacated. Must admit we probably need to stay inside, because hull was baking in one of the hottest days for sometime. The camden beer was okay, but I was taken back by the £5,90 a pint charge, I think more as I'd just previously paid £2-34 for my last pint. Is what it is. My friend ate, and enjoyed what he had. It's lovely to sit in the square, taking in the church, buildings, specially on a hot day.

I really like this place. On this occasion it was very quiet for some reason but previously it has been absolutely packed. The staff are extremely friendly and we had a long chat with them about anything and everything. Good decor and plenty of seating inside and out. Good selection of food and drink.

Great location. Great décor. Not too noisy. Good music. Altogether great atmosphere. Tried Grilled chicken Gyro, tasted great! Definitely recommend. Also tried Vegan Fried chicken Gyro, also tasted amazing! Plus pepsi Max and cappuccino. Amazing value, will definitely be visiting again. Dog friendly.

Has a fantastic choice of real ales, but i struggle finding one i liked, food menu is varied, it's pub grub so don't expect restaurant quality, would say it's a great place to sit and chat and chill out, some seating area outside with great view of trinity church.

I'm not vegan but I've tried some of the menu items that are and thoroughly enjoyed them. Excellent beers too. Very reasonable lunchtime menu.

Of all the pubs in Hull I have been to, this is the only one I have been back to. Lovely atmosphere, great beer and delicious food. Takeaway service on the craft beer was a welcome bonus too.

I specifically chose this pub because I needed to meet someone who follows a vegan diet, and I was aware that Hull might not have many options for substantial vegan offerings. To my pleasant surprise, this pub surpassed my expectations by offering a diverse and extensive vegan menu. I estimate that over 50% of the menu consisted of vegan options, which provided a wide range of choices for my vegan associate. It was refreshing to find such a thoughtfully curated selection in a city that may not be known for its vegan-friendly establishments. In addition to the impressive vegan menu, the pub's drink selection was excellent. The variety of drinks available catered to different tastes and preferences, ensuring there was something for everyone. The pub's location in the old town added to the overall charm of the experience, providing a historical backdrop that enhanced the ambiance. Really always love this venue! GREAT atmos. But unfortunately inconsistent recently. One particular member of staff always makes our visit. Female long hair etc we always look out for her! Shes fab, friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. I have been coming for years and 80% of the time it has always been enjoyable. This is by no means a complaint, more feedback than anything. As i realise this is a public forum... etc... It is tough at the moment to balance the expectation from the customer vs the need to allow business to adapt post covid. So inconsistencies are normal. Treats are just that these days and even when having a coffee or a small bite it is what i consider to be a treat. This aside i have come to Head of Steam to treat myself recently and have had some mediocre experiences. :( I orders a soy cappuccino on one occasion that was cold and had no froth, the job was off loaded to someone who seemingly had more skill... but she had to finished her text first before she got to making the drink which was really disappointing... She asked me if i wanted a spoon or out like that with it and then wobbled it over to the bar spilling half of it. By the time i got it to my table i lost half the drinkkk so yeah was just awkward all round. :( I would rather they said you know what i cant make that or might not be so good but i will give it ago, that way i can make a choice. Transparency is key. Went again with a friend last week for food. New waiter asked us to move tables 40 mins before booking arrived. I think this was just panic? But a better approach would have been to say you can stay here for 40 mins then you have to move... We ordered nachos and a portion of vegan friend chicken. Which at 10.00 a piece you think would be relatively substantial. It was quiet obvious that in the case of the chicken dish the chef was economising. the portion was SOOO small and made to look more substantial with some salad leaves really disappointing. Are check backs part of the spec or not? One was done, but after we had finished :( In my opinion it should never have made it to the table the dish was that bad :( A well timed check back is the guests opportunity to highlight any issues. Let them ask you not the other way round or it can just be uncomfortable... I get times are hard and portion control etc... I wonder how much this was following the spec vs how much stock chef needed to save that day : / Chefs always try to get away with this as they are not F.O.H so don't have to deal with the awkwardness of serving stingy food. Anyways i am, rambling. I will keep going i love it! But yeah maybe a abit more accountability for the service side of things... and abit of common sense (the cappuccino) things might improve. Hats of to the female i mentioned earlier, she.... is getting it spot on!

I visited the lovely "Head of Steam" pub in Hull trinity Square today, fantastic atmosphere! Lovely food and Emily at the bar was superb. Highly recommended with a great selection of beers 🍻😉 cheers! Plus table outside on a sunny day!

Just visited the Head of Steam for a late lunch - happy to say still doing food at 3/4 pm and it was great. For beer and music lovers - can’t beat Motörhead Road Crew! Fab pub and staff Emily looked after us very well - will come again if back in Hull.

Really like this pub but once again when I went on Friday evening found it was closed at 9.55 even though website said open til 12. I won't be bothering again.. Very disappointing

Great pub, great can selection and beers on tap, vegan food is amazing.

Overpriced!!! And less than average food!!! I ordered the “turbo” side of cauliflower wings for £9.50 thinking for that price it would be reasonably substantial. I basically got a slack handful of battered soggy cauliflower wouldn’t even add up to half a cauliflower. If you think a cauliflower is around £1 there’s a 800% mark up on this!!!!!!!!!!! An absolute rip off. Also ordered fries for £4.95 which I think is a bit expensive for a small bowl of chips. We won’t be back.

Despite being a chain, this was a good pub. Strong selection of beers, reasonably varied food selection, and the atmosphere was lively but not too intense (especially when compared with most of the pubs and bars on Trinity House Lane this bank holiday weekend).

Food was absolutely incredible!! Had dirty fries and a burger and I must say the dirty fries were some of the best I ever had in my life!! Cosy little setting as well. The only negative for me was the selection of beer but not to worry. Quite pricey but well worth it! Would recommend to try it

First time visiting and I really hope to go back. The atmosphere was great, the food was delicious, a good range of vegan options and a great selection of drinks as well. It was reasonably priced and I highly recommend this establishment.

We did not mind that this was a modern bar. It has been tastefully done. More importantly they had a reasonable selection of real ales served well.

Now here’s a place I loved. All the Belgian Beer I adore. Delirium on draft. The food was brilliant, the pizza, the everything you can see. Highly recommended. Highly highly. If you like beer and proper company. Proper beer

Ordered nuggets and chips for my 1 year old. Chips were over done so the child couldn't eat them. Also the high chair was much lower than the tables we booked. Had to drag a small table and sit seperate to the other party members. The kids menu is not on the app so i had to pay separately. My burger was nice overall. Unfortunately they had 1 person behind the bar the whole time we were there. He was serving behind the bar, Bringing food out, Cleaning tables, setting tables. There would often be a qué at the bar waiting for him Not his fault and did his best. Management should hire more people. Service was slow as a result.

The food was delicious we shared a platter of sliders, chicken strips, loaded fries and nachos. Service was great, we never booked a table on a Saturday night so it did take about 40 mins for us to get seated, but that's not a complaint just a heads up.

Lovely cosy pub, well run, clean, excellent food, large choice of beers ect. You won't want to leave.

Had tacos with pulled beef, disappointed that the pulled beef was such a tiny portion that you could not taste it. Definitely needs more than what it came with. Bring back the mackerel from a few years ago now that was great and you could see it and definitely taste it.

I enjoy going there. Magnificent location and great atmosphere!

Nice cosy feel to the pub but still modern and hipster. Food is great and the place is dog friendly. We went on a Sunday just before 1pm and it seemed quiet but got busier and food took an hour to come. They did say there was a wait, so just check if you are in a hurry. We weren't so it is what it is. Booking a table online was easy. Will be back.

Lovely bar with great selection of ales. Second visit whilst in the area. Very quiet day all in all but good to sit and listen to some decent music.

Always enjoy visiting HoS either to eat or just sample some of the wonderful beers on offer especially if I'm not driving. The place has a lovely warm atmosphere and has very welcoming staff, on a recent visit we were looked after by the lovely Emily.
