Travelling on the NC500 saw the cafe and decided to stop for lunch. First impressions were good however the 'lunch' menu was lacking in what could be seen as everyday items. There was a specials board offering a soup and a roasted pepper dish. I would have expected to see at least an offering of jacket potatoes, something with chips perhaps or a bigger selection of normal sandwiches but they are trying to be too fancy. It may be why only three tables were occupied during a lunchtime. This establishment is not what I would call a cafe but more of a tea and cake room. As there was nothing for us we left.

Really friendly and helpful staff. The portion size for the cheesecake was huge (and it tasted great too). With views of the Loch, outside tables and parking I would highly recommend a visit.

An absolutely magical wee cafe that serves traditional Scottish food as well as their take on some more exotic food. They do fish and chips takeaway on a Friday and sourdough pizza on a Saturday - both are class!

This cafe is a real treat to visit, which certainly can’t be said about all eating establishments in Scotland. We had just finished a short stay in Applecross and were starting our long drive home to South Wales when we were looking for somewhere to stop for breakfast. Boy were we lucky. The Waterside was just opening at 9:30 when we were passing. The staff were very welcoming and friendly and the food was fantastic. We were so impressed that we bought some cakes to fuel us later on route and picked up a couple of packets of biltong to try when we got back. We have just tried the biltong and it is every bit as good as the best biltong we’ve ever tasted in South Africa. If you are ever passing close to this cafe in Lochcarron, you’ll be making a big mistake not to call in and sample some of the wonderful food on offer.

It’s always a pleasure and relief to find a Highland cafe, like the Waterside, which is open on a Tuesday in late November. Even better when we found that Tuesday is ‘Fish and Chips’ day—some of the best fish and chips we’ve ever eaten: melt in the mouth haddock, light batter, thrice cooked chips, and superb homemade tartare sauce. Even the pot of tea was top class. Add to that lovely, cheery, friendly staff, a select range of gifts on sale which will make good Christmas presents and, of course, a lovely view of Loch Carron out the window. And for a further treat, go three miles further along the coast to see the picturesque ruins of Strome Castle.

The sign said 'wait to be seated'. So I waited....and waited.......and waited. Staff skirted around me, the chap behind the counter studiously ignored me and the young waitress almost looked like she was going to acknowledge my existence.... But no. Eventually someone came from the kitchen area and could see me! Only to inform me that the empty table at the back was booked. Fair enough, but why was I ignored for so long. I had a previous bad experience with mislabeled food and only went again under pressure from hungry visitors.

We came across this little cafe by accident, having discovered our intended lunch-stop was closed which led us to drive a little further on into Lochcarron. We're delighted we did though, as we had a great experience. After receiving a warm welcome we ordered two pizzas and two smoothies, sitting inside to escape the blazing sunshine. If you are visiting on a Saturday, bear in mind it is a limited menu so only pizzas plus sausage rolls (which were sold out by the time we arrived). However, we can definitely highly recommend the pizzas; the homemade base was delicious, as was the tomato sauce and various toppings, and they were great value for money considering how large they were. Special mention as well for the smoothies. We both had the Tropical one, which was excellent and very welcome on a hot day. Sadly we were too full to sample any dessert, but the cakes on display looked amazing as did the scones (which you can get with clotted cream and jam). We'll definitely be back next time we're in the area and hopefully leave enough room then to try something sweet!

Food okay albeit a bit bland, service okay and interior of the place also okay, but what takes the edge of the place is the sense that it’s all a bit of an effort for the people who run it and work there. I had just finished a 4-day walking trip with campstove cooking so wanted some good but basic food, most particularly Macaroni Cheese 'n' chips. Service was prompt and staff pleasant. I was offered salad with my macaroni which I declined as I find it personally a poor combination. The macaroni was delicious but a tad overpriced in my book. I then decided I would quite like a cake and whilst there was plenty of baking on offer, I made a poor choice. I am vegetarian and I suspect my chocolate dime bar cake had marshmallows (they contain gelatine) in it but it ,was my mistake for not checking. The texture was dire. It was like eating rubbery tyres and although it was chocolately it definitely didn't hit the spot. However what really put me off eating was the excessive and unwelcoming signage on every wall, including the doorway to the toilets (very clean by the way). Fair enough the cafe doesn't provide wi-fi. fair enough they do not want people coming in and charging their mobile phones over a 2 hour 1 cup of coffee break whilst the place is heaving but there are less obstrusive and more customer friendly ways of dealing with this.than repeating that it on every wall using words like " this is our office space" which immediately made me feel I was stopping them working! This signage was in contrast to friendlIiness of the staff but I still felt that I needed to hurry over my meal (I was in and out in 45 minutes) or I would be accused of table blocking even though there were empty tables. A simple "no wi-fi" on the end of the menu woiuld suffice and if people are table-blocking advise them, politely but firmly, that their table is needed.

Was in Lochcarron for the week with my husband and visited this cafe a few times. Had the breakfast which was cooked to order and plenty of it, filled us up for the day and tasted very nice indeed. Another day we stopped and tried lunch again lovely. Homebakes also available (we tried the jammy dodger which was lovely). Great coffee as well. Worth a visit while in the area folks.

Stopped on our way over Bealach na Bà to Applecross. Small family run inn, we enjoyed a full Scottish and coffee. Service was good, food excellent.

We visit the Larder each summer on our west coast trips. We opted for two savoury and two sweet pies to takeaway. One smoked haddock and cheese sauce, one chicken and haggis with sauce, one peach and apricot and one apple and blackcurrant. The smoked haddock pie was amazing, the best ever. The pastry was lovely too. I’ll definitely keep my eye out for this tasty pie on future visits. The chicken and haggis pie was lovely too, both pies moist and packed with filling, great sauces in them. I’m not keen on sweet pies but we enjoyed them too. The peach and apricot pie was perfect for me. Price wise the savoury pies are about right for the weight. No shortage of fish and meat in them.

A star on the north coast and a must visit. Gorgeous views over the Kyle from the outside seating. Family run with great service and great chat, the food was fantastic. We had lunch and had to add the sundae to celebrate the sunny day.

We know the Tongue area very well, and like to eat locally, so it was obvious we would decide to eat at the Craggan, and i'm happy we did! The restaurant area is welcoming and clean, staff friendly, and the car park was easy even with a big van. The only problem was choosing from the menu! So many tasty things - i wish we had more time to visit again.. All three of us enjoyed our food, and we shared everything so i know it was all delicious. Thank you for making a rather wet evening so special..

Dirty tables. Dirty menus. My daughter was served a mouldy panini. Cheese in panini was plastic. Very dry tasteless cheese scone. Drinks not too bad.

It was such a pleasure to visit this cafe and a welcome contrast to the pre-paid accommodation ran by some racketeer at Ivy Cottage. We took one look at what was on offer and fled to next ferry to Mallaig. I went to school in Inverie in 1948- 49. when the priest had an affair with our teacher. He wnt on to become bishop of the Westrn Isles while she became an un-married mother
