Walter's On The Beach in Cornwall, Isles of Scilly

As we were staying in Carbis Bay (and having already really enjoyed The Ugly Butterfly) we chose to visit Walter's as well. Booking by telephone was easy and I was impressed that the person taking our booking asked about dietary requirements. We were, however, less impressed when we arrived at the restaurant and the staff appeared both disinterested to see us AND confused by being asked what for a gluten free menu for my wife. It took several minutes for them to manually mark up a menu with a pen to indicate what was gluten free, something we would expect to be ready at a venue in this price range. The food itself was very nice, which is the rescuing factor for this review, but when we pay this sort of price for food we also expect a nice ambience and friendly welcome. This contrast is made especially clear by our having eaten at both adjacent restaurants during the same stay (Beach Club and Ugly Butterfly) where both the staff and the vibes could not have been more friendly, welcoming and fun. We would not choose to return to this restaurant with both these alternatives being only a matter of metres away.

Staying in Carbis Bay so thought we’d try Walter’s. Great service from Frankie, really welcoming. Ambience was good, a good buzz. The food though was good value. The chowder in a large bread roll could have been spectacular as the chowder was excellent. However the ratio was just wrong. Far too much bread and little chowder. At £15 (plus 13%) really not great. The tandoori monkfish was really good. Very spicy and a meaty texture. Portion could have been larger. The cauliflower steak was good with very creamy potato puree. Couple near us had issues with orders which seemed to spoil their evening. Overall, average for the cost (£100 inc service with a couple of beers), it could have been so much better.

We were staying in the local area and popped down for an evening meal which was fabulous! The staff were very attentive and the food was unique and just wonderful! Would certainly recommend and be back during another trip to Cornwall!

Visited Walter’s whilst staying at Carbis Bay hotel - this was my favourite of their restaurants in terms of menu options and service - I recommend and would return. They also do an amazing dessert ice cream thing which looked and tastes amazing !

Great atmosphere, wine & views. Unfortunately the food was not a good standard and overpriced. 6 of us ate and only 2 liked. The monk fish came out cold and took 20 minutes to serve again but we all had already finished eating. The fillet steak was small, I'd guess 5 oz for £40 ! And was chewy. Cocktail was great but for £18 each I would expect that. Wouldn't return.

Wow what an experience. ion our cocktail maker was making a drink - when I asked what it was he said it was a pina colada old fashioned - all of us thoroughly loved it and kept ordering throughout the day. We even came back the next day for more. As regular goers this drink needs to be on the menu. It’s fantastic and the only thing that makes it better is Ion wonderful service. What is not to love! Phenomenal food and phenomenal drinks! With amazing staff! Thanks to Frankie and John who were so welcoming and friendly, making your visit amazing. They also make the best cocktails! Oh my and the views! The Pork Belly, fillet, sausage roll with potatoes puree was HEAVEN! Our favourite place ❤️ You do not want to miss paying this special place a visit. We can't wait to come back in May.

An amazing meal for our wedding anniversary. The service was excellent, nothing was too much to ask and they were so attentive, our wine glasses were never empty as they are constantly scanning the room to see if anything is needed. Special mention to Ion and Andrea who were our main servers. Now to the food. For starters we had the fish cake and beef ravioli in squid ink pasta, mains were fillet steak and rack of lamb and for dessert we had the autumn still life. Followed by a little cocktail too. Quality ingredients and superb atmosphere for the dining experience. All in all highly recommend

Such a beautiful location, we had a table in the window and it was lovely sitting watching the twinkly lights over the bay. We had a delicious cocktail to start, followed by a lovely starter and main. The wine list was great with a good range for all budgets.

We were staying at the Gannet sister hotel and had booked a stay with one meal at Walter’s on the Beach. It entitled us to a 2 course dinner. It was a real treat and did also order a side of tenderstem with almonds to share along with cheese on toast snack instead of a starter. A bit different from the usual bread & butter. The wine was lovely and ended with Walter’s on The Beach special twist on the expresso martini. All in all an evening we won’t forget in a hurry. Would highly recommend

There were 8 of us that visited the restaurant for a 50th birthday, nothing was too much trouble for the staff. The food was amazing and no one could fault anything. We were looked after very well, thank you to all the staff! We will definitely return when we visit again.

We were staying on a deal at The Gannet Inn. A two course meal at Walters was included. We loved it. Upon entering we thought it was ABIT dark but the lighting is actually just right. Good music, not too loud, nice atmosphere. Waiter Frankie was amazing, friendly, attentive, knowledgeable and put us at ease. All staff were lovely. Food was superb, scallops to start, we paid the supplement for the supur Cornish fillet beef and a dark chocolate dessert recommended by Frankie and delightful. Best meal we've had for a while, washed down with some lovely sparkling Devon wine and a bottle of red. Not a cheap option but in our opinion worth every penny for a treat.

We were given such a warm welcome, the setting is simply stunning and inside the restaurant the ambiance is relaxed, decor is modern and comfortable with beautiful attention to detail. Veve was attentive and gave great recommendations, the service was on point with good timings between courses. The food was exceptional quality and cooked to perfection, such an elegant dining experience. Everyone in my party agreed we had a fabulous evening at “Walters on the beach”and would highly recommend. Also complimentary parking is always a bonus in Cornwall and literally steps away from the restaurant

Beautiful location, very welcoming. Mixed reviews on the menu, I struggled to pick, my husband could have ordered everything! Food and drink was of high, good quality standard. Shame they don’t do a proper children’s menu. We managed to pick a few bits off the menu for our daughter but it worked out expensive. Lovely cocktails but, again, very pricey at circa. £18 each.

We LOVE Walters on the Beqch. We’ve been visiting annually since it opened and always have the most excellent time. Ion’s cocktails are amazing - try the Angostura Expresso Martini or the Banana Smash. We worked our way through both the cocktail menu and fabulous food menu - so many excellent dishes to try. It’s always lovely to get a huge welcome from Frankie who together with Ion looks after us brilliantly.

Enjoyed winter lunch special with my wife and it was very special. £22.50 for lunch main plus a drink is a steal, we added a shared cheese on toast starter for £8 and it was delicious. I had an excellent pork trio and my wife had the equally excellent ( I tasted ) Korean chicken . You must visit to enjoy the decor, views and overall feeing, it’s gorgeous .Frankie was attentive and a joy , it’s so nice to have superb service with a smile . Couldn’t recommend more highly
