Waitrose Cafe in Redbridge

If you are happy to pay £5 for a single slice of lukewarm toast spread with mashed avocado, this is the place for you. If you would like a nice lunch at a reasonable price, I suggest you try elsewhere.

Staff are friendly but it’s still incredibly badly run. It doesn’t matter if there is 1 person in front of you or 5, it ALWAYS takes forever. One member of staff has to take order, tell the kitchen about order, take the money and then make the drinks! It’s soooooo long winded!

My family shopped in Waitrose, South Woodford a lot since it first opened. Last Monday I went to get a coffee on my way out after My purchase. Their coffee machine now always had low milk warning, sometimes it worked but most of the time not. This time it only dispensed two spoon of coffee and stopped. I saw a staff stood 5 m away near to the flowers. I told her there’s no milk and she called someone to change the milk. After 5 minutes a young lady came but changed the milk in the other machine whilst I was waiting by this machine. She later came to my coffee. She looked very annoyed when she changed the milk. After she finished she told me you can use it now and started to leave. I told her I scanned my Waitrose card already so cannot scan again. Then she shouted at me where is your receipt. I showed her my receipt and she reluctantly scanned her card and told me to get your coffee and get out of her face. I asked her why was she so rude . She then finger pointing at me and shouted just get your coffee and get out of her face a few times. It’s shocking to face a staff who was so rude and aggressive. Was it racism or agesium . I asked for her name(Kelly) so that I can complain about her to the manager. She just told me to get your coffee and get out and she just turned and left. I was very upset and asked the customer service to speak to the manager .Kelly rushed back to me straightaway and shouted at me to get out. I said I wanted to talk to the manager. She said she is the manager and raised her voice to the security man and attracted a lot of attention from other staff and shoppers to look. I just cannot believe this is happening. She shouted to everyone there to look at me and never let me back to the shop. He is banned from coming back. She kept shouted behind me when I was leaving. How aggressive was this woman? She was unbelievably rude. She banned me from coming back so that I cannot complain about her in that branch. I came home and phoned up the head office to complain that afternoon but still have not heard from them. Are they looking at my complaint seriously? How long does it take to investigate? The store senior manager didn’t invite me in to discuss?

We shop in Waitrose and pop in for a coffee no cake. The staff in the cafe are exceptional especially "Chan" who is extremely hard working and a extremely pleasant lady. The cafe manager Sabrina is perfect. My only bug bear is that there is not much for me to eat no vegan options in the way of food.

Quite simply it is badly run. There are too many food choices, which complicates service, and you can watch the staff struggle to locate items on the till. It took almost 12 minutes to get an order placed and there were just four people in front os us. It's a shame because it used to be excellent

Waitrise cafe is predominently run by young inexperienced staff. The counter staff are dismissive. The one older member of staff is extremely rude service is slow an poor. Very expensive not competitive tables not particularly clean. Better to grab a coffee an take out.

When I am shopping in Waitrose I like to stop and have a coffee and maybe something to eat. As I am gluten free I have very little choice if I want breakfast there is nothing for me i.e. toast as the only bread they have is normal. As the cafe is in a supermarket and it is their own cafe there is no reason why they Cannot supply gluten free bread they can easily toast and it can be kept in the freezer so it doesn’t get wasted. It only seems to be a choice of cakes biscuits which are pre-packed for gluten free or rice cakes which are not always wanted sometimes a proper breakfast might be nice like egg on toast. So please, Waitrose there are many many people in the area that are gluten-free please cater a little bit more for them even, if it is just with “toast”at least it’s possible to have something to eat other than cake or biscuits. Another matter is your coffee it is somewhat bitter and not always enjoyable.

Very disappointing lunch here. None of the toasted sandwiches were available apart from a rather overpriced and unimpressive fish finger bap. Abrupt staff served us. I know it was busy but still unacceptable to be so off-hand. Not what I have come to expect from Waitrose - disappointing.

Not sure what people were expecting? Its a cafe inside a supermarket....How good is it going to get? Breakfast is tasty and filling, a lil expensive but tasty. Tables are filthy......Typical average cafe! 3/5

Relaxed friendly staff. Generous portions. Never rushed. Lots of elbow room. And the place is just the right size.

Soup. How hard can it be? Waited 5 minutes to be served, only 1 other customer in front of me - 2 staff discussing where a tea pot was and both searching for it. I finally interrupted their fruitless activity to ask for soup. I then waited for a table to be cleared but the guy became distracted and headed back to the kitchen. I cleared it myself. Soup arrived, carried by Mr Distracted. No spoon. 'On that counter, downstairs,' was the response. He left ( walking empty handed past 4 dirty tables). Soup was fine but I was so frustrated I left most of it! Could be a gold mine, such a waste of prime cafe space.

Service was very slow and there were no napkins . All that was available was a kitchen rolll where you pullled of a sheet. You would expect more from Waitrose . The coffee was very bitter but when we complained we were told that they served coffee with two shots and very quickly replaced coffee with only one shot.

Visited the cafe today to order few teas and a cake. Unfortunately the wait is just excruciating, is this place understaffed? The staff seems to be taking their time and not taking the job seriously. I had to wait to order at least 15 minutes, which is 12 minutes too long, fix this guys please... It's a nice location but the waiting time is just awful

As it is always virtually impossible to find a table that has been cleared, I stacked the pile of plates at the side of the table and waited for my lunch. It was served by a very pleasant lady who is clearly overworked. The fishcake was small and the chips only one step away from cold. Unusually salt and pepper were already on the table; usually you have to hunt for them on other tables. This cafe is in a great setting and should be so much better. The store management really needs to take a very careful look at this section of the store because it is really letting down the Waitrose name.

Other reviewers have it right. Never seem to have enough staff. The latte was truly terrible and the tables were dirty. Seems only to be a place for people to get their free wait rise coffee or the old folks to take a rest from shopping.

Service is slow, personality behind the counter is lack lustre... However I can't get enough of the chicken, bacon and Brie flat bread dish...close your eyes and pretend your somewhere else..it's delicious 👍🏻

A typical Waitrose restaurant at the end of the supermarket that is visited by regulars to use their My Waitrose card and read the free newspapers for hours on end. Queues can be long and frustratingly slow to move if you visit at a busy time and facilities are not always available e.g. serviettes, teaspoons. However, if you are exhausted after a long shop it is worth sitting down and enjoying a pit of tea and one of the cakes.

Being Waitrose I was expecting a treat, a veggie breakfast all freshly cooked for me.

Standard Waitrose Cafe offerings in the South Woodford branch of the upper end supermarket chain. Unfortunately it is evident that management have not correctly resourced the cafe and all too often, tables do not get cleared and service is very slow. Ok if you have nothing else to do and prepared to wait. Also good if you have a 'My Waitrose' card to get free coffee. Not really worth paying for the experience. Other coffee shops in the area are better. Waitrose clearly using the cafe as a loss leader to attract shoppers into the supermarket.
