Wah Ji Wah in Manchester

Ordered pav bhaji and vada pav. Had a coughing fit soon after and coughed out a shard of sharp crystal plastic. I consider it a lucky escape. No complaints about the food though (amazing food), wish they'd pay more attention to the goings on in their kitchen. Have ordered from them loads of times but this experience has left me shaken and scared, not sure I'll be ordering from them again in the near future.

They do puchka and vada pav but the only issue i had with them is that it was very small quality. Just 4 puris in puchka and 2 very small vadas for vada pav, did not so justice on what i had to pay The place is super expensive as compared to some other indian places They do have quite a good selection of wine. We had told our server clearly that we do not want any ginger piece on top as garnishing, however we still had a ginger slice in our paneer veg. The server was not apologetic when complained about it and just said, sorry its just one piece. Not something i would accept from a place where i am paying so much money We also had 2 house flies flying over our table.

Food was great. We had chicken, paneer and aaloo with garlic naan. The only thing that upset me was not properly cleaned glass. We can clearly see lip marks probably from the last customer. When I informed the staff at the time of payment, he just said you should have asked for another glass. No any apologies or any mention. Apart from this the food was delicious. If you are planning to visit the restaurant then just make sure regarding hygiene and check your plates/glasses as staff won't care much regarding it.

Unlikely to have visited without the recommendation from a friend who lives locally, so glad I did. The food was delicious, no complaints about any of it. They do some really unusual tasty street food style starters. The poppadom basket was also a cut above most, very fresh with tasty accompaniments. The Sheesh kebab starter was the star for me, delicious. Very well priced for Manchester. Decor is nice, I also liked the open kitchen which we sat next to. Only slight issue as noted by the ladies was they only have a single toilet for all, which could be an issue during busier periods. Well worth a visit.

Went prior to visiting the AO Arena as it was roughly equidistant from our hotel, not too expensive and had good reviews. Food and service both very good. Menu is more eclectic than the usual chicken/lamb/prawn bhuna/jalfrezi/madras type of place and also had some interesting side dishes. All the food was good, had a very spicy lamb dish and a Goan fish curry advertised as medium but actually pretty hot (a good thing).

it’s one of the best Indian restaurants in Manchester their biryani and butter chicken is literally to die for. I always order from here but one day I’ll come and for diner.

Three of us in tonight, we ordered: dal makhani, murg lababdar, roast lamb lazeez, with amchoori kaju karela and keema pau to share as sides, plus a naan/roti each and drinks. All of the curries were delicious, particularly the dal which was so creamy and flavourful. The meats were tender and their sauces were gorgeous mopped up with some bread. We had just come from a bar round the corner as I had fancied a cocktail but the drinks here were just as good - cobra on tap and my passionfruit mojito was perfect with all the food. Being early January, it was pretty quiet, but it’s not hard to imagine it being very very busy at other times of the year. I really recommend this restaurant and will be coming back for sure!

Delicious! We ordered 1 of everything off the street food menu between 3 of us & everything was delicious, we were stuffed but very happy! The food is super affordable for how tasty it is. Will be a regular on my list when I fancy Indian in Manchester now.

Good food located in the heart of city. Dal options are very good and so are other rare veg options like saag (I mean good quality saag in UK!). Ambience was good cozy and service was quick and welcoming. Good Value for money/

We had a great evening meal here, quick service and great staff. We started with the Chicken Wah ji Wah and then I had the Murg Lababdar, both delicious! We will definitely be going back, highly recommend!

Lovely owner, very welcoming and great service from all staff. After my first two proper curry’s being at dishoom, I thought I wasn’t a huge curry fan, but this has definitely changed my view. Nice laid back atmosphere, highly recommend. I personally had the tika masala and chicken wah ji wah as a side, look forward to trying other things on the menu, will defo be going back!

Called in on the off chance they could fit us in. Fortunately they were able to. Wow, this is the best Indian I have been to in years. I had chicken jalfrezi and my wife had the murgh chicken. Both dishes were fantastic. The service was impeccable. What a find. Would strongly recommend this restaurant 👍

Nice clean super tasty foods. I have only been here once so not tried many of the foods, but the menu looked great. Restaurant had a nice feel to it and the staff were great. Food was big portions and had loads of flavour. Reasonably prices and a lovely place to get together with friends of a special occasion.

My son and I enjoy lovely curry. This is not your usual Indian food but personal to the chef I had a version on methi chicken and my son had a version onf chicken korma. Each was slightly different to the norm and better for it

The taste was good, delicious. The quantity was good as well for the main course. The quantity for the starters was too less, but the taste was good.

The portion of food is very less. They just give 4 Pani puri for a higher price. Veg pulao was not at all up to the mark. Just boiled rice with green peas and lots of salt. Disappointed.

I visited Wah ji wah recently and unfortunately, had an unpleasant experience. We ordered two teas, but what stood out the most was the unprofessional and rude behavior of the staff. Instead of feeling welcome, we were treated with disrespect, which completely ruined the ambiance and enjoyment of our visit. And in fact your staff charged us extra compare to menu and order and when we mentioned after that he changed the amount. Then he asked for cash, it should be mentioned that you are accepting cash and not cards so that customers get prepared themselves for situations like this. Though we ordered two tea it was not for free, i can understand it was Saturday but definitely it was not busy at all, in fact only one table was occupied inside rather than us. I can see other reviews about your restaurant and no wonder this can happen again. Its just acceptance who makes or breaks the things, i politely mentioned the counter person who was continually staring to us, that it was rude but then he started arguing with us. See even though whatever we ordered nobody was asking for free. It was paid. And at 5:18pm if you dont want to sell tea just mention it outside to your restaurant that you are so called busy. So that customer like us wont visit you anyways. Also the taste of the tea was not good at all, just water and milk was mixed, so no doubt we wasted our time and money too. From city center we walked towards your restaurant so that we can get good tea but you guys disappointed us in all aspects. I would strongly encourage management to look into improving customer service, as this experience left a negative impression, and I am hesitant to return unless there are significant improvements. The staff charged us for Pot of tea instead of 2 cups of tea which is incorrect and two different menu’s. About service charges after all this also we paid service charges. And if you cant serve 2 cups of tea you cant serve anything. Just accept it as a feedback. We tried to tell you politely before too ,but i dont think so its gonna work anyways but all the best for your attitude lol. Very rude staff. Continuously staring while we sat there also charged us extra. Would not recommend at all due to poor hospitality. Would not even let me type a reply for this. Firstly it wasn’t even busy and every customer needs to be respected no matter what they order. To be able to call having 2 tables occupied as busy you will surely need to learn how to respect customers irrespective of what they order or else this is how your busy will look forever. It’s rude how you want only those people who order beyond a certain limit. Well I hope you flourish well with this behaviour.

I have to say, my recent visit to your restaurant was a complete disappointment, mainly due to the shockingly poor etiquette and rude behaviour of your staff. From the moment we walked in, it was clear your employees have no idea how to treat customers. We were also charged incorrectly for the order that we had placed. When we brought up an issue with our order, instead of addressing it politely, the staff chose to be condescending and dismissive, making the entire experience even worse. The guy working on the till acted as if he purposely had charged us more and had a weird smile on his face. Frankly, it’s unacceptable for a restaurant to treat paying customers this way. You seriously need to get your staff in check, or you’re going to lose more customers. The lack of professionalism was appalling, and I won’t be recommending your establishment to anyone. Speaking about the order. The tea I had at your restaurant was, without exaggeration, one of the worst I've ever tasted. It was bland, poorly brewed, and lacked any depth of flavour. Really sorry to say but even the water tastes better then the tea you serve at your restaurant.

The manager's behavior towards guests was highly disrespectful. When we requested a seat and walked in, he rudely instructed us to "sit over there" in a harsh tone. Throughout the visit, he kept staring at our table and making remarks to the waiters. Overall, the experience was terrible. If it were possible to give zero stars, I would. They judge customers based on what they order, which is not the kind of treatment one should expect from a restaurant.

Hey guys i will suggest dont go here as they dont serve just tea or any other drink and owner him or her itself is so arrogant that you wont expect anything nice for other staff members too, they are so so fine dine that they forgot how to serve people 😂, i must wonder that they ever went to any other 5 star restaurant even. He is telling me about how they are paying and there are so many expenses dude , we also earned money with hard work and we respected each and every person it was you who was bothered because we ordered tea, and staring us since long and charged us extra and calling it service charges, we paid service charges plus he was asking us more 😂 bro no need to say anything i got it you cant change . The manager has a disrespectful behaviour towards his guests. Simply the best and most authentic Indian food this side of India. I've lived in many places like New York for over 10 years, Singapore, Malaysia and more. This is by far the best Indian food I've tasted anywhere. Suffice to say it even tastes better than what I get in some restaurants in India.

Small restaurant with narrow frontage so doesn’t stand out as you walk down the street. Smart and tasteful inside with open kitchen at the back. Service was welcoming and friendly, great choice on the menu and also a good separate vegan menu. Food was exceptional, everything was really fresh and full of flavour. It is definitely the best Indian food we have had and by far the best in Manchester.

Food and ambience is good but I have been here twice with my friends and every time we have to wait a long time for food even though the restaurant is not busy and food quantity is not value for the money as I was surprised to receive a wing and leg piece for ordering a half chicken. Management and chef has to look into this service issues.

Have been ordering online for a while, but visiting there in person with the family was totally worth it. Treated warmly by the staff, the ambience is soothing and makes you comfortable sooner. The menu is diverse with a lot of vegetarian options. We ordered Samosa Channa Chat, Lacha Aloo Tiki, Puchka, Dal Makhani and Paneer Butter Masala. Accompanied with Khameeri roti, Garlic Naan and my personal favourite Aloo Onion Kulcha. All worth it, prices are within budget, taste and presentation is superb, staff and chef did an excellent job. Special thanks to Sahil who served us with smiles and great hospitality.

This is a restaurant we were aware of but have had never been to before. We visited early on a Wednesday evening and had a wonderful time meaning it will now be visited by us many times in the future! From the moment you are welcomed into this Lovely restaurant to when you pay the bill and leave everything in between is wonderful. Just off Deansgate it is also handy for spinning fields so is extremely well located. The staff are professional, attentive and friendly and add to the evening as well. Most importantly the food is exceptional. The chef came out to see if we were enjoying our meal and it turned out he worked at the five star Taj Hotel in Delhi as a chef. The quality of the food bears testament to this and it's some of the best Indian food we've ever had. It caters well for vegetarians but also people who eat meat and the spice is just perfect. We ordered two side dishes with two main courses and every individual dish was simply top class. I've no idea how they get the flavours as deep and tasty as they do but that's what brings you back to the restaurant. it isn't expensive either and put one or two of the more expensive Indians in Manchester to shame. Its name literally Wow and you can understand why after eating here. Highly recommended.

Was walking around Manchester looking for food with my mum and we came across this place. It was a wednesday night and was very quiet. The service was great and staff were very helpful and accommodating. As the place is located in Manchester, the price was very reasonable as the food and drinks were very high standard. The starters and food are homemade and fresh which taste very good and there is a good size portion. Highly recommend this place ignore bad reviews.

Chicken biryani is a great choice compared to meat, a distinct Indian restaurant

We have been coming to wah ji wah for over 4 years now. It’s the only restaurant in Manchester I find amazing quality and authentic Indian food. Every time I am in Manchester and cannot dine in, I try and do a take away! We have tried pretty much everything including vegetarian and non vegetarian options and love everything. Goan fish curry is one of our favourites and the mix platter with paneer tikka. Love it.

The only place in the city we would go for a curry! Fantastic food every time - the tandoor rooster is amazing!

Came here to try their Kanda Bhaji and Bhuna Gosht, and it was a good experience. Their foods have good portion sizes and their menu offers a wide variety of curry dishes. The restaurant location was initially quite hard to find for me as it's a little bit tucked away. The service is good at the restaurant, you walk in, get seated quickly and the food also came out fast. The food here can be quite pricey as a starter, a main curry dish with rice and a drink is almost £40.

Overall tasty however a bit pricy. Staff was attentive but not the most friendly. I enjoyed my experience but probably would prefer a bit more chatty service.

Mrs Cheddarwasp and I enjoyed a lovely Sunday afternoon meal at Wah Ji Wah yesterday. You know you are onto a winner when the restaurant has a separate vegan menu which is a big help. We even checked what wines were suitable before arriving and there are plenty. The food was amazing. We have to sample the garlic mushrooms everywhere we go...It'd be rude not to! They were gorgeous. Along with Kanda-palak bhaji and Samosa chana chaat that did us for the starters, soooo good. For the mains along with some steamed rice we opted for the Soya methi palak bhaji and the Achari baingan aloo both excellent. The staff were lovely and the place is just a great place to eat and chill. Wah Ji Wah is a place we shall definitely be returning to. There's still plenty on the menu we haven't tried. Cheers guys!

Came here tonight, 22 May, 4 of us, on a very wet and rainy Manchester evening. Everything we ordered, which was a lot, was perfect. Very tasty and big portions. Ambience was perfect as was the service. We all agreed that we'd be back again.

All food was fabulous. We were a party of three and everyone loved their food. Staff were friendly. It was all very reasonably priced. I really could not recommend this highly enough.

Atmosphere 1 because first ones in there, so impossible to judge. Food. Small plates of lovely spice, tasty, spicy, hot and fresh food. Individual tastes and plenty of vegetarian options. Lamb a bit tough, but the sauce was complimented. Poppadoms a con..jar sauces. Bland, tasteless and watered down passata. No onions or homemade lime pickle. Shame. Service is excellent, attentive and great you can see and smell your food being cooked

We were here to celebrate milestone birthdays for our friends. We ordered vegetarian and seafood for appetizers and main course. The serving plates are quite big with too small portion size making us wondering if this has been a recent change and if they are yet to change the size of the plates. Sizes of pattice, bhajiya and crab were appalling in that humongous plate. Main course items were good but not good enough for us to come back seeking more.

Food was good, but quantity was so less, Ordered a bhelpuri very disappointed with the quantity, never coming back to this place.

Very nice food including street food starters. Service good and unobtrusive. Drank a mixed fruit cider which was delicious. My only criticism was the huge portion sizes, I couldn't finish it, especially the rice. Happy to reccomend it.

I go to a lot of Indian restaurants, and this was up there as one of the best. It’s a small independent place with good service and not your average range of dishes. We had some traditional street food for starters followed by a couple of mains with coconut rice, and really delicious fresh naans! Perfect.

As a woman dining alone this place was lovely (especially as it was valentines evening). The staff were attentive and made me feel welcome. I wasn't shoved to a table at the back facing the wall lol. This made me feel part of the whole evening. Now food. Poppadoms nice & crisp. The dips were delish. I don't normally enjoy mango chutney as I find it too sweet this was just right so I suspect made from scratch. Same with the yogurt dip. I opted for a selection of appetisers rather than a large curry. Oh my goodness!! The sheek kebab was massive but really tasty. The king pawns had just the right amount of spice. Aloo gobi (which is one of my favs) the potatoes & cauliflower had just the right amount of bite not overcooked & mushy and a coating of sauce so you could taste the whole dish as opposed to bland veg slathered in sauce. I had the crab cakes which personally weren't to my taste. Crab is quite a delicate taste so once combined with spicey potato for me it didn't work 🤷‍♀️. Garlic & coriander nann light & fluffy. Gorgeous pina colada. I left a happy if not full lady. Thank you !!

Now I don’t often give Indian restaurants a good review but this place simply deserves it . Freshly prepared by the excellent chef Manish who watches your face as you eat as he actually cares that you enjoy his food. First the mix starters excellent bajji and Malay tikka then the mains mouthwatering succulent lamb and plentiful chicken the tastes are amazing . Will be back bravo Manish

Everything was very close together. Tables seem to be on top of each other to the point you can hear everyone's conversations. We didn't have any cutlery or napkins on our table when food arrived. The starters where nice however the mains where sub par. Lamb was very chewy and not nice. Korma was pretty much a lemon sauce ? Do not be fooled into getting skanked with drinks like we did. 4 single Captain Morgans & cokes came to £34. On top of that our bill was slapped with a 12 % service charge. Despite the fact staff where more involved with uber eats and deliveroo orders. Failing to provide napkins and cultery twice for our meal. Livid.

The food was ok, however the staff seems to be really cold. They didnt had any smile as well when asking and seems to be in rush everytime. There was only one person ssrving all tables and delivering items and other 2 staff members behaved as they are mangers and made the experience very un common and really unpleasant. Raelly really need to work on this aspect if they need to survive in a long run.

I've eaten here a couple of times now. The first time was pretty decent, but this most recent experience has left me feeling squeamish. Walking in with a friend, we were promptly seated and asked if we wanted some poppadoms for starters. Nodding enthusiastically, these were delivered promptly with dips. The usual spicy tomato dip was possessed no spice and literally tasted of passata, the yoghurt dip didn't taste right either, like cheese as if it had gone off. Amongst my poppadoms, I also found a dark beard? Hair. My friend had had a rough day, so I didn't say anything as she seemed to be enjoying herself, so I pushed these things aside. Next, I ordered crab claws and tilapia for the main. The crab meat was tasty with dashes of mint, and the main fish was cooked well and a decent portion. My friend had ordered a fish curry , and the fish tasted fried and added in latterly to the sauce. Overall this most recent experience would not have me rushing back.

Incredible food in a small but nicely decorated restaurant. Service was quick to start but I could tell the two waiters running the whole restaurant were struggling to keep up, not their fault. I'd definitely visit again and it was refreshing to finally get a curry where if you ask for it to be hot and spicy it actually is (Madras) We were in and out with two of us in 45 minutes, you can see the kitchen from the restaurant also, it's nice to watch your food be prepared. Cocktails on offer are great also. Poppadoms, two mains, two sides, rice and naan with a cocktail each between 2 came to £67 Inc the 10% service charge. Very reasonable. Only regret is not taking photos of the food!

Food is tasty, the service is quite frankly the worst I have ever experienced… it’s not just slow but they just seem to serve whoever they feel like first. There more orders going out in bags for Deliveroo than there is going to tables we had to wait an hour for our mains

Amazing food, a serious must-try in the Manchester city centre.

The service was a little patchy with the waiter being new. Food was exceptional I shared starters of Seekh and chops both delicious! The main of Chicken Jalfrezi was the best I've eaten accompanied by beautifully cooked naan bread and rice. Would not hesitate to return.

I love this restaurant. I've been coming to it for years and never disappoints. The food is interesting and tasty and the wine list is excellent. The service is on point and friendly. Last night I had crab fritters, lamb curry with naan and gulab jaman for dessert. All really good.

We came here for a special birthday after hearing good reviews. However, the experience was very appalling; the food was uncooked and when the concern was raised, there was no acknowledgment. The owner/ chef was rude and said that the food is usually made to be “undercooked” and we should have asked for it to be made well done. We had also ordered the snapper, which was also undercooked. When our bill arrived, they still proceeded to charge us for the undercooked food and added the service charge. Even overall, the food came it sightly cold. Won’t be returning and would not recommend.

Quite expensive in terms of Indian food. Not worth the price of the food item. Quantity being very less for the price we paid. Posting this in response to reply on my review: Just to let you know I have not underrated Indian food. But ya definitely underrated the Murg Tikka masala I had from there as it didn't taste as it should be. And to be more precise not everyone wants oily food. That wasn't the meaning of the whole review. And just because you misunderstood us, we were only 2 people not 3. Last but not the least, all the customers who visit you can't provide 4 stars, and you can't make every customer happy, so just be prepared for bad reviews as well. I hope you grow more in your business but try to take inputs from your customers as well, as it is important.

Very lovely food, incredibly tasty, staff friendly and service very quick. Every dish was so tasty. Prices very affordable for the immense quality. Had a lovely time and will be back!

We regularly get takeaway from Wah Ji Wah and absolutely love the food, so decided to try eating in the restaurant too. The food was still really good (if not better) in person, however the service really let them down. We had to ask for tap water for the table three times, and in the end we were charged £5.50 for it. We also weren't given enough glasses for the table and had to ask for more multiple times. We waited for nearly an hour before they came to take our food orders. When the mains came out, one member of our party had to wait a further 5-10 minutes for theirs. There was a Christmas garland on the bar that fell onto our table twice, leaving our plates/glasses covered in glitter. One drink we received had lipstick on the glass. When we were finished we asked for the bill and fifteen minutes later still hadn't received it - when we asked again we received it with a 10% service charge already added onto the bill. Wouldn't have minded this if the service warranted it, but the standard of service wasn't high enough for a 10% tip. It was a shame because the food was so nice, but in future we might stick to takeaway only.

We were a group of 5. The restaurant was empty and the foood took ages to come. The service charge was a bit more , looking at the the level of service. The food was great but the rest was not up to mark. The level of service could be better. If not there’s no point charging service charge.

I really liked the quality and freshness of the food here. The menu is small and refined, which l like as l don’t like to browse large menus. The waiters accommodated a tweak to my starter the Wah Ji Wah platter (as l don’t eat fish so provided extra chicken instead). The starter went down fast it was delicious. The recommended mains Gosht Banjara was also delicious with garlic and coriander naan. My only negative was I’d have liked a little more lamb with the more than ample sauce. I ordered another naan to finish off the sauce and it arrived super quick. Service was excellent and attentive. Highly recommended.

The food is top rate. They have a vegan/vegetarian menu though unfortunately was told that this was only available online. Mentioned to 2 waiters to say that it would be better to be integrated into the main menu or given separately with the main menu as an alternative and they took this constructive criticism onboard. Overall however the food is of a very high standard.

Superb meal and one of the best Indian meals I've ever had.

Arrived for dinner at 6.30 and there were several tables already there and lots of takeaways going out. Very attentive service and the food was delicious from the poppadoms and accompanying sauces to the light, fluffy naan bread and the hot but full of flavour Ghost Banjara. Will definately be returning when next in Manchester.

The restaurant was small but that didn't disappoint us with the food and service. Excellent attentive staff with good knowledge of the food they serve. Highly recommended.
