Whilst walking in Arnside we decided to call into The Wagtail for a latte. The owner served us at our table and was very friendly ,our coffee was lovely. On leaving I bought a freshly baked Beef n Potato pasty to take home. Served at home with some mushy peas,I can honestly say it was one of the best pasties ive ever had. Plenty of large pieces of beef with chunks of potato in a well made pastry. It tasted fantastic. I believe that you can have the pies delivered to your home, frozen and ready for the oven. Would I return ... Yes definately.

I'm struggling to find anything good to say. Oh yes, the view out of the window is good. I feel sorry for the staff and it's not their fault we had a terrible experience - the fault is entirely with the owners. The two young staff were inexperienced and lacking in training. As a result the food was terrible and slow to arrive. The people on the next table had a worse experience. I was in a good mood so I just laughed at it all.

We arrived the day after lock down measures were put in place. The staff don't seem to understand that table service means that you do not order at the counter and that staff come to you at the table. They seem to think that it is beneath them. The drinks we had were in tiny plastic/paper cups and the slice of cake was wafer thin. Judging by the comments from the owners, they obviously do not like honest feedback.

Lovely little gem of an establishment. We only had drinks and light breakfast which was great. The biggest plus was the super friendly owners, we had our Black Labrador with us. And when they say dog friendly that’s an understatement. Owners were also genuinely chatty and welcoming. If like us you were visiting Arnside for the tidal bore then a visit to The Wagtail is a must and certainly won’t bore you.

Visited for lunch today. Clearly a popular place. We ordered just before 12 which is the cut off time for breakfast orders. However my husband was able to order the breakfast which he really enjoyed. He thought the ingredients were good quality. I had a simply delicious plate of falafel, pitta, hummus, and a choice of 2 salads of the day. Also excellent tea and coffee. Hope to be back soon. Service a little slow but didn't bother us as not in a hurry. Got the impression everything prepared fresh on order.

Really good food. The pies are home made and packed with plenty of filling in a really good pastry case. The quiche and choice of salad is excellent and their salads are different and really delicious. The café is very small and is kept very busy but is a real favourite for lunchtime.

I popped here yesterday for coffee and cake. The coffee was lovely but the scones a little flat, almost rockbun shape but tasty. My family had pies and salads wich they enjoyed. Busy cafe, tightly packed, perhaps smaller chairs needed and the wall seats replacing with something lighter and brighter.

Service was slow and ponderous. However, the coffee was good as were the cake and the person preparing food in the kitchen was eating, which is not really good food hygiene practice.

We had the most delicious lunch here. I can't remember the name of my dish but it was perfect - all the flavours I love and really healthy - half an avocado, roasted chickpeas, black olives, spinach, beetroot, red onion, courgette strips. I just wish I lived a lot close as I would be here very frequently. My husband loved his soup which I tasted - delicious. An added bit of fun was that a siren went off which warns of The Bore (the tide comes in very quickly as a wall of water) approaching. The sea is just on the other side of the road from Wagtail so you may get to see The Bore. It had a very nice friendly feel too. I didn't sample the cakes as I was full from my lunch but they looked amazingly and homemade. They made a perfect flat white too. Full marks from me and I hope to be back one day.

Well, I've been back in Arnside helping out with my sick father. Last time I was here I was in a bad place as I had to find a care home for my father who'd fallen ill and just needed somewhere to sit with my laptop and check on local care. But after reviewing this place I got rather a crappy reply, telling me to get off my laptop and enjoy the surroundings! It not good to judge people and why they are in your premises, they could be there for all sorts of reasons, so I was very upset with the response I had. Having said that, I had a much nicer experience this time around and the staff were a lot more attentive to me and made what is a difficult time a lot more easier for me. I left a review on another cafe's site this week as I had to put up with hearing the owners problems. I don't expect to go to a place and spend my money to hear the owners life story, so it was nice to be somewhere where I could relax have a lovely cup of coffee and this time after I put my laptop away, enjoy the view from this well located cafe. Thank you. I didn't have a pie though, but they looked amazing!!

Fine, honest and genuine independent cafe. Friendly, professional staff. Very dog froiendly. The scones were light, fluffly and very moreish. The Borrowdale Tea Bread was delightfully sticky. I thoroughly enjoyed the fine leaf tea - excellent quality and flavour from a blender I've not come across before. All in all, and excellent afternoon tea. Well done to the Wagtail

We ordered 3 sandwiches and they arrived an hour later! The cafe was not overly busy and we had a three year old to pacify. When asked what the delay was we were advised there was only one preparing in the kitchen. When the order came there was a ham sandwich rather than tuna. She did offer to sort it but we had waited too long already. That aside the food was very good.

Disappointed. Maybe expectations were too high. Only place we have ever been where the wife disliked the Pinot - vinegary! She did enjoy her Lamb Shank though to be fair. Service was OK. My meal was OK, not brilliant, even though it was the highest price on the menu. Service on the night was excellent with pretty much all main courses being served at thd same time. However... was not amused by being told to book at least two courses each ("as we would be taking most of the place"). We had already paid a large deposit and it turned out that they had so many other customers one couple had to dine in the overflow area. Basically two of us are not really starter/sweet diners and in the end the second course I chose (cheese and biscuits) was extremely disappointing for the price. Overall - I probably wouldn't recommend, which is a shame because everywhere else we ate or drank at in the area I would definitely return to. Parking is extremely difficult so if you can walk there, I would suggest doing so.

Second visit in a couple of months. Food is so flavoursome, it’s great to be able to try the different dishes rather than have a plate of food. Staff are knowledgeable of the food they are serving and make suggestions of things that go well together. Beetroot & goats cheese a favourite, hummus - delicious 😋 Will certainly be back for more and keen to try the new brunch menu. Well done team L’al 😃
