The lad behind the bar was brilliant, very attentive on the food orders and service to table. Great value pub food with a good service.

Very lucky to have the Duke as my local/ Adam & the team are always welcoming and always make sure there’s plenty of Stella, my preferred beer! When eating the food is always good and they always save a little extra for my dog bramble.

Great place to go for a bar meal and afew pints. Great food and really friendly bar staff especially lian the manager. Also got a massive beer garden for your summer drink

Godfather burger was fantastic, motorhomes welcome to stay overnight if you eat in the pub. Arrived at 1, parked up, wandered into Kendall, had a few drinkies, (pint of Guinness and large wine was under £9), nothing to add to that 😂 Back to Duke for evening meal, with another few drinkies. Back to motorhome for a decent night's sleep. Cushtie.

Amazing local pub, friendly staff and good food!

Great selection of lager and ale. The bartenders are very welcoming. And most importantly, they have a big screen for the rugby upstairs.

Don't judge a book by its cover!! Looks quite 'gastro' on the outside lovely tables with fire pits and fancy lights. Food wasn't the best...steaks medium rare came grey and looking like they'd been boiled! Ordered food and waited a while to then be told there was no mash for my sausage and mash. Lipstick all over one of the glasses of coke/pepsi...didn't see it until drank some of it!! Some punters were rowdy and had to be told to pipe down and she'd kick him out. Not child friendly at all. It's a shame as it could be a real gem.

Came here whilst car was having new windscreen fitted! Lass behind the bar was lovely, disappeared a lot but she was chatty and friendly. Food was okay, bread was bit stale but maybe due to being mid week and quiet. Had to ask for sauce and vinegar, nice open fire which was good as was cold In the pub! Looked like had a lovely seating area outside for the summer time, great for parking, if my car wasn’t In the garage.

Service was excellent by Jade. Food and drinks are also very good. Great atmosphere a very warm welcome. Defiantly will be reutning

lovely visit, Claire was an amazing hostess, talking and laughing with customers and ourselves, we stopped and had some food today we had the nanchos for starter these tasted great, for mains we had the hunters chicken and smash burger both fantastic the chicken was moist and just enough bbq sauce and cheese, my friend had the smash burger which was just as amazing tasted great. The pints of Madri helped to food slide down 10/10 will deffo be back, thanks Claire for the service and Lian for the food highly recommend

Went for lunch & had to eat with my coat on as it was freezing in the pub. Danny the barman was great but the food was abysmal. Took 30mins to arrive. Overcooked chicken, underdone sausages, awful parsnips & green beans which had seen better days. Will never eat there again. Please note owners. PUT THE HEATING ON!!

The food is delicious, I got a goats cheese and caramelised onion pizza that was amazing and I cannot wait to go back for it again! Also had the camembert which was lovely. Definitely recommend.

I stopped here to get a drink while waiting for my train to arrive. The decor inside is pleasant and their drink selection is good. I wish I had had time for food, as it looked nice.

We came across this place on Saturday looked like a really nice place to eat until going inside 🤨we found a cleaner table even though it was dead inside I decided not to eat because if they can't clean a table what's kitchen like .went to the bar for coffee. No coffee. The bet linch wonabe bar thing was very charming not!!.30 minutes it took for a tuna sandwich to come out and even then we had to ask .the thing said she forgot about it we left .never to return

On arrival miss cleasby met us at the door with a custard cream and a couple of chocolate vol au vents, quickly realised they don’t do custard creams on the menu so miss cleasby obviously brought these from her own stash, wonderful accoutrement to the establishment, food was served with a smile and the custard was fresh as the morning dew 5*****

Took my staff for a pre-booked Xmas Meal and drinks... Very poor service ...not enough staff on duty ....ran out of food. We even had to wait on ourselves ...very poor and won't be going back again ....other than to as for a refund. Just not good enough...👎👎👎

Turned up for a pre booked lunch, to be told we didn't have a booking, he checked all dates to make sure they hadn't booked it for another day, no booking anywhere. Couldn't stay as the kitchen was shut until 2. Needless to say we won't be returning. Couldn't give 0 stars

We ventured out for the afternoon to sample some gorgeous food and drink off the Christmas menu, and couldnt have been looked after better by the whole team! Chef johnny made sure the scran was absolutely top notch! They catered to my allergies and the bar service by claire was was second to none! 10.5 out of 10! 🙌🙌🙌 the manager Lian also made sure we were very well looked after 🙌 It was that good we stayed allllll day 🫣🥂😂

I recently went for Saturday lunch and I wasn't impressed. The pub was quiet yet the lady in the bar was busy playing on her phone not giving a damn about people queuing. It was so cold inside the pub that customers were sitting with their coats on. They ran out of half the menu and I eventually managed to get "pigs in blanket" and a "chicken platter". It was plentiful but the meat was so overcooked almost burnt. To be fair one good point to mention is the drink selection and the kitchen staff came to the table to apologise for the limited menu.

We and my partner came 3 week. Ago on a Saturday they was just opening there was dirty glasses from nightbefore all over bar .I had burger my partner had chicken with bacon in bbq sauce he started with upset stomach sat night and started being very ill on the drive home Sunday morning had been for 8 days ill .went to the Dr's who took a stool sample results came back food poisoning under cooked chicken .He is still not right still upset stomach and on anti biotics and still isn't clearing up .

We had a Brilliant time, we had a lovely roast and kids loved their sunday ice creams. Nice atmosphere, you can't go everywhere and it be child friendly so it was nice to not feel out of place

I can vouch for this, absolutely loved the steak Wednesday offer with my husband, the steak was cooked to perfection 😋 and it was so tasty and affordable, we ordered a pudding each too. It’s safe to say, we thoroughly enjoyed our meal and never had a bad meal or bad service to date 👌

Visiting from the US a few weeks ago. Went to this pub several times and enjoyed them all. We were made to feel welcome. The food and local ales were great.

Lovely Halloween decorations. Food was nice but not wow. Good to see fresh veg. Staff friendly. Atmosphere a bit quiet for lunch time, few more in later towards 3. Very welcoming off dogs. They also had flat cider on draught. Delicious.

We booked the function room for my dad's funeral wake. was asked if we wanted them to do the food or we bringing our own in we said we've got friends that we're willing to do it for us. So they said it will be a £100 for the rent of the room to be paid at the end of the day when we turned up there was Halloween decorations up downstairs and upstairs Rip tombstones ghost skeletons you name it it was up. The room had no heating on as it was a wake you would think that they would be thinking might need a cup of coffee or a tea. But no that was not even on they wouldn't even boil a kettle I paid for the fantastic service they give to us but said it was £120 I told them I was told it was £100 so I paid £100 didn't want to get in to arguement over the crap service and a lovely decorations that they provided. Thanks for ruining our day

Came here with my dad for a meal on a monday night- as you can expect it wasn’t extremely busy. We ordered our food and was told there was no wait however we then sat and waited for an hour with no sign of our food or any indication of if it was actually coming. The guy working behind the bar was too busy on his phone and vaping. Paid for our drinks and left. Extremely disappointed. There is no way 2 meals should be taking over an hour to make when we are most likely only one of 3 tables in there eating.

We used the Duke for our baby shower and the venue room was perfect. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The food provided was very good, everyone was very pleased. Highly recommend

Amazing food couldn’t fault anything bar staff were very welcoming and interacted with us. Jonny made us feel very welcome whilst he took our food order and served us our drinks. You don’t get this experience in any other pubs. The waiting on staff Ellis and Hayden went above and beyond to assist with any condiments etc. They were also very friendly and made us feel very welcome. We will definitely be returning again very soon.

Walking in from the outside parking lot it’s absolutely lovely! But then u come inside and wow! It was so dirty, the tables the menus, behind the bar where the staff stand, chat and use their phones! Here’s my notes we took while sat there having a drink! We were gonna stay for two but decided to leave! The guy with a diamond earing in his left ear who came in around 3:30 can't stop swearing and complaining about a girl and her wanting more shifts! Couldn't read his name as there is more text below it... just got his name is Danny The menus are so grossly dirty and when there's 5 staff stood around on their phones they def could be wiping down the filthy menus! We wanted something to eat but they grossed me right out .... the one I opened on table 7 had a chunk of food on it! The lad with the short ginger (light ginger) hair was so lovely! He smiled every time he walked by, and to be honest was the only one working! And working so hard! And so was the fellow with the spiked hair on top! As well as the super young lad. Shane (only name tag I could read) just kept swearing The girl working the bar was so cold and Uninviting The bathrooms were lovely! Clean and smelt great

After a trip to the lake district we googled a dog friendly place to go and this pub came up, on first impression it seemed like a nice place, The outside heated seating area looked nice but it was quite chilly outside so we decided to go inside and it was very quiet. We checked with the Bar staff if they were doing food and checked if there was anywhere dogs couldn't go, we were told we could sit anywhere. We chose a bigger table as it was very quiet and the other tables there wasn't much room for two dogs aswell. Ordered drinks and food and sat down, after 25 minutes a staff member come over and said could we please move becy a larger party had now arrived and wanted the table, to be honest we were very annoyed but just agreed but thought this was very unfair. We moved outside to have the space for the dogs but it was cold, after 45 minutes our food had finally arrived and in all honesty wasn't impressed by very small portions and it wasn't cheap! cold vegetables and the pier had hardly any filling. We told a staff member how upset we were and he got his supervisor so come and see us. Danny was wonderful, very understanding and offered us complimentary drinks and deserts, his customer service was excellent and dealt with our issue very well. Unfortunately the desserts took ages as well and the coffee was awful. Three is absolutely top in a rating I would give for this restaurant and that is only because of Danny dealing with our issue, for Danny's customer service it would be 5 stars he is a credit to the business.

Food was quite nice. We had fish and chips. The fish was really nice. The chips were chunky and well cooked. Now for the bad but. The pub was a bit rough and ready for my tastes. The decor was not exactly the best. I had to ask for our dirty glasses to be replaced. This was before we even used them. Not sure if the replacements were much better. Staff was friendly especially the ones who brought our food .

Lovely meal cooked by Lian, we had lasagne and the SFC Burger both were outstanding and fantastic value for money. Danny and Shane were amazing went above and beyond and really helpful as well, can't wait to come back.

Visited here last year on a nice summer’s evening and was excellent. This year wasn’t so great. The fire pit stopped working half way through our meal and they couldn’t get it started again meaning it got fairly chilly. Some of the food wasn’t great, left too long in the oven with some tough and hard bits. My meal was excellent, just a shame it wasn’t the same for all our party.

Appalling! Came here for a family occasion. As we were a large group we preordered our food. There was a delay of over two hours despite being repeatedly told the food was coming soon. We realised that rather than prioritising our food and preparing in advance, our meals had been left to the end and meals were being made first for customers walking in. Some guests hadto leave without food as they had a long journey home. This was very disappointing. I was told I would hear from the manager regarding this and yet to hear anything.

Food was okay, but the service and atmosphere wasn't the best. Walking through the door there appeared to be staff rushing around, arguing with family who was in there as customers. Food arrived late which we did get an apologly for but then when going for puddings it was 'kitchens closed' even though it said kitchen was open till 9pm. Did see a poster on the way out about a festival the next day, just wish they hadn't of taken my booking so I could of looked elsewhere

Booked in for a large group at lunchtime and had preordered food, no food came and were told it would be soon. Food came over 2 hrs late in dribs and drabs after chasing several times. Serving staff were apologetic and did give a discount but quite disappointing as it was a special occasion

Had a bottle of Prosecco robbed off me, completely unopened. Sat with the manager for 35 mins, he saw the woman rob it on CCTV to which we have a face. Refused a refund, and on the night had to buy another bottle to replace it so have given them double the cash!! Bunch of scruffs who visit here and management don’t want to replace stolen item(s) or refund you them Best he could offer is if he found the name of the woman is bar her. Awful after spending £170+ on drinks in there anyways. Won’t be visiting again.

We booked for a group of 25 people, plenty of heads-up, we gave orders a few days before. We sat upstairs for 2 hours. As nobody was communicating with us, went downstairs to be informed one of the chefs had walked out, and the other wasn't prioritising our food, so other customers were coming in and getting served before us. All told, half of our group left as they had travelled across the country and the other half got free starters, half price food when the mains came. Friendly enough front facing staff but you really can't give this more than 1 star as it is absolutely shambolic. Stay far far away from this place if you're booking a group, not reliable.

Good food, and helpful staff. A good local for the family. The beer garden is clean and tidy. People bring their children and dogs, which adds to the relaxing atmosphere. Just need the sun to shine a bit more.😁

Popped in for food after shopping just before evening service. Ordered drinks and food no pie available so cancelled food order considering it was being of service thought this was wrong. Also bitter shandy was flat glass was filthy when told young man on leaving got no apology nothing. Staff didnt seem to be bothered about anything

Booked a table for 8 people and got directed upstairs, both big tables had food on it from many hours ago , and was unclean. When we told the bar staff they were not apologetic, we went to sit downstairs and the seats also had a lot of food/crumbs on it. Seems like there was an obvious reason no other cars were in the car park, we had to leave due to the lack of service.

I attended a dog show at the duke and was very impressed 👍. Lovely family atmosphere, excellent customer service , outdoor seating , food served and an amazing range of drinks. Brilliant place ,top staff 👍😎 Well done Duke of Cumberland pub 🍻👍😎❤️

Attended Duke fest with the family....major disappointment all around. Advertised as a family event but all of offer was alcohol.... J2O was sold out by half two and after quing for fifteen minutes to get to the bar they were not serving the usual drinks menu. We have been here over an hr and still haven't even heard a band or dj....major disappointment all around.

We went as a family to Duke fest as advertised for families. We had 2 teenagers with us however after queuing for 15 mins to get a drink we were told that they usually do coffee but wouldn't serve it today at the festival! We order J2O as obviously alcohol was not appropriate....and they had only 2 left in the flavour..... It's advertised as a DJ between sets but we are yet to hear any music.... Major disappointment all around

Excellent pub with an excellent beer garden but the food wasn't.first time I've been here and was really impressed with everything.friendly staff and one of the best beer gardens I've been in but my fish and chips were a big letdown.Thick cut frozen chips which I didn't enjoy at all and the fish wasn't much better.it didn't even look right to me but tasted just about ok.peas were nice tho and my wife did enjoy her scampi and chips.she had no complaints at all..I would come back here but I'll definitely be trying a meal that doesn't come with chips

We went there for our anniversary and the food was disgusting. The staff were great, The chef let the side down. I was a chef for 20years so I know my food.

At first we didnt think we would be able to sit down and have food as there is renovations going on but Danny was very accomodating as we needed a table on the ground floor. The food was amazing and the friendleness of the staff everyone was so accomadating. Nothing to fault at all we cant wait to come back

The beers were the worst we have had today in Kendal. Two different beers, both flat as a pancake. When mentioned to the lady behind the bar she just laughed.

Wonderful place to eat and socialize. Such a clean, done up pub. One of my favorite in Kendal. Lian and the team excell theirselves every single time, the food is always the best quality and quantity. Massively child and dog friendly!

Our family had been at Brockhole on the high wire adventure for a rainy morning and the Windermere area was heaving for lunch, so we decided to stop on the way home for late lunch and happened upon the Duke. The pub welcomed us as a family of six with three dogs and the food was really good pub grub. The shandy was lovely and ice cold too. We left having very much enjoyed the food and good portion sizes so we were full!

Went last week at lunch time. It was pretty quiet at the time so no trouble getting a table. The meal was lovely I had the steak pie which was served in a tin with a pastry top( so pleased it was shortcrust pastry ) the chips were crispy, and the veg Hubby had the fish and chips again very enjoyable. Highly recommended

Visited today for lunch,ordered soup(leak and potato) soup was very peppery,kids burger was ok i guess,squid starter came with very spicy mayo,rest of the food was ok,but not great. Wont be coming back
