One hour and 15 min wait to get a burger! Then staff had the nerve to asking the food was OK, waste of time and money. Go elsewhere!!!!

Visiting from the US a few weeks ago. Went to this pub several times and enjoyed them all. We were made to feel welcome. The food and local ales were great.

Wanted a tea but the drinks machine was out of order

Lovely Halloween decorations. Food was nice but not wow. Good to see fresh veg. Staff friendly. Atmosphere a bit quiet for lunch time, few more in later towards 3. Very welcoming off dogs. They also had flat cider on draught. Delicious.

We booked the function room for my dad's funeral wake. was asked if we wanted them to do the food or we bringing our own in we said we've got friends that we're willing to do it for us. So they said it will be a £100 for the rent of the room to be paid at the end of the day when we turned up there was Halloween decorations up downstairs and upstairs Rip tombstones ghost skeletons you name it it was up. The room had no heating on as it was a wake you would think that they would be thinking might need a cup of coffee or a tea. But no that was not even on they wouldn't even boil a kettle I paid for the fantastic service they give to us but said it was £120 I told them I was told it was £100 so I paid £100 didn't want to get in to arguement over the crap service and a lovely decorations that they provided. Thanks for ruining our day

Came here with my dad for a meal on a monday night- as you can expect it wasn’t extremely busy. We ordered our food and was told there was no wait however we then sat and waited for an hour with no sign of our food or any indication of if it was actually coming. The guy working behind the bar was too busy on his phone and vaping. Paid for our drinks and left. Extremely disappointed. There is no way 2 meals should be taking over an hour to make when we are most likely only one of 3 tables in there eating.

We used the Duke for our baby shower and the venue room was perfect. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The food provided was very good, everyone was very pleased. Highly recommend

Amazing food couldn’t fault anything bar staff were very welcoming and interacted with us. Jonny made us feel very welcome whilst he took our food order and served us our drinks. You don’t get this experience in any other pubs. The waiting on staff Ellis and Hayden went above and beyond to assist with any condiments etc. They were also very friendly and made us feel very welcome. We will definitely be returning again very soon.

Walking in from the outside parking lot it’s absolutely lovely! But then u come inside and wow! It was so dirty, the tables the menus, behind the bar where the staff stand, chat and use their phones! Here’s my notes we took while sat there having a drink! We were gonna stay for two but decided to leave! The guy with a diamond earing in his left ear who came in around 3:30 can't stop swearing and complaining about a girl and her wanting more shifts! Couldn't read his name as there is more text below it... just got his name is Danny The menus are so grossly dirty and when there's 5 staff stood around on their phones they def could be wiping down the filthy menus! We wanted something to eat but they grossed me right out .... the one I opened on table 7 had a chunk of food on it! The lad with the short ginger (light ginger) hair was so lovely! He smiled every time he walked by, and to be honest was the only one working! And working so hard! And so was the fellow with the spiked hair on top! As well as the super young lad. Shane (only name tag I could read) just kept swearing The girl working the bar was so cold and Uninviting The bathrooms were lovely! Clean and smelt great

After a trip to the lake district we googled a dog friendly place to go and this pub came up, on first impression it seemed like a nice place, The outside heated seating area looked nice but it was quite chilly outside so we decided to go inside and it was very quiet. We checked with the Bar staff if they were doing food and checked if there was anywhere dogs couldn't go, we were told we could sit anywhere. We chose a bigger table as it was very quiet and the other tables there wasn't much room for two dogs aswell. Ordered drinks and food and sat down, after 25 minutes a staff member come over and said could we please move becy a larger party had now arrived and wanted the table, to be honest we were very annoyed but just agreed but thought this was very unfair. We moved outside to have the space for the dogs but it was cold, after 45 minutes our food had finally arrived and in all honesty wasn't impressed by very small portions and it wasn't cheap! cold vegetables and the pier had hardly any filling. We told a staff member how upset we were and he got his supervisor so come and see us. Danny was wonderful, very understanding and offered us complimentary drinks and deserts, his customer service was excellent and dealt with our issue very well. Unfortunately the desserts took ages as well and the coffee was awful. Three is absolutely top in a rating I would give for this restaurant and that is only because of Danny dealing with our issue, for Danny's customer service it would be 5 stars he is a credit to the business.

Only popped in for a quick refreshment staff were very polite and chatty.

Food was quite nice. We had fish and chips. The fish was really nice. The chips were chunky and well cooked. Now for the bad but. The pub was a bit rough and ready for my tastes. The decor was not exactly the best. I had to ask for our dirty glasses to be replaced. This was before we even used them. Not sure if the replacements were much better. Staff was friendly especially the ones who brought our food .

Lovely meal cooked by Lian, we had lasagne and the SFC Burger both were outstanding and fantastic value for money. Danny and Shane were amazing went above and beyond and really helpful as well, can't wait to come back.

We were in the room upstairs for a hen do! Brilliant room, lovely food, great service. Will definitely book this room for future use :)

Visited here last year on a nice summer’s evening and was excellent. This year wasn’t so great. The fire pit stopped working half way through our meal and they couldn’t get it started again meaning it got fairly chilly. Some of the food wasn’t great, left too long in the oven with some tough and hard bits. My meal was excellent, just a shame it wasn’t the same for all our party.

Quiz night when I was there. Plenty of outside spsce. Beer good.

Food was okay, but the service and atmosphere wasn't the best. Walking through the door there appeared to be staff rushing around, arguing with family who was in there as customers. Food arrived late which we did get an apologly for but then when going for puddings it was 'kitchens closed' even though it said kitchen was open till 9pm. Did see a poster on the way out about a festival the next day, just wish they hadn't of taken my booking so I could of looked elsewhere

Appalling! Came here for a family occasion. As we were a large group we preordered our food. There was a delay of over two hours despite being repeatedly told the food was coming soon. We realised that rather than prioritising our food and preparing in advance, our meals had been left to the end and meals were being made first for customers walking in. Some guests hadto leave without food as they had a long journey home. This was very disappointing. I was told I would hear from the manager regarding this and yet to hear anything.

We booked for a group of 25 people, plenty of heads-up, we gave orders a few days before. We sat upstairs for 2 hours. As nobody was communicating with us, went downstairs to be informed one of the chefs had walked out, and the other wasn't prioritising our food, so other customers were coming in and getting served before us. All told, half of our group left as they had travelled across the country and the other half got free starters, half price food when the mains came. Friendly enough front facing staff but you really can't give this more than 1 star as it is absolutely shambolic. Stay far far away from this place if you're booking a group, not reliable.

Booked in for a large group at lunchtime and had preordered food, no food came and were told it would be soon. Food came over 2 hrs late in dribs and drabs after chasing several times. Serving staff were apologetic and did give a discount but quite disappointing as it was a special occasion

Had a bottle of Prosecco robbed off me, completely unopened. Sat with the manager for 35 mins, he saw the woman rob it on CCTV to which we have a face. Refused a refund, and on the night had to buy another bottle to replace it so have given them double the cash!! Bunch of scruffs who visit here and management don’t want to replace stolen item(s) or refund you them Best he could offer is if he found the name of the woman is bar her. Awful after spending £170+ on drinks in there anyways. Won’t be visiting again.

Good food, and helpful staff. A good local for the family. The beer garden is clean and tidy. People bring their children and dogs, which adds to the relaxing atmosphere. Just need the sun to shine a bit more.😁

Popped in for food after shopping just before evening service. Ordered drinks and food no pie available so cancelled food order considering it was being of service thought this was wrong. Also bitter shandy was flat glass was filthy when told young man on leaving got no apology nothing. Staff didnt seem to be bothered about anything

Booked a table for 8 people and got directed upstairs, both big tables had food on it from many hours ago , and was unclean. When we told the bar staff they were not apologetic, we went to sit downstairs and the seats also had a lot of food/crumbs on it. Seems like there was an obvious reason no other cars were in the car park, we had to leave due to the lack of service.

I attended a dog show at the duke and was very impressed 👍. Lovely family atmosphere, excellent customer service , outdoor seating , food served and an amazing range of drinks. Brilliant place ,top staff 👍😎 Well done Duke of Cumberland pub 🍻👍😎❤️

Attended Duke fest with the family....major disappointment all around. Advertised as a family event but all of offer was alcohol.... J2O was sold out by half two and after quing for fifteen minutes to get to the bar they were not serving the usual drinks menu. We have been here over an hr and still haven't even heard a band or dj....major disappointment all around.

We went as a family to Duke fest as advertised for families. We had 2 teenagers with us however after queuing for 15 mins to get a drink we were told that they usually do coffee but wouldn't serve it today at the festival! We order J2O as obviously alcohol was not appropriate....and they had only 2 left in the flavour..... It's advertised as a DJ between sets but we are yet to hear any music.... Major disappointment all around

Excellent pub with an excellent beer garden but the food wasn't.first time I've been here and was really impressed with everything.friendly staff and one of the best beer gardens I've been in but my fish and chips were a big letdown.Thick cut frozen chips which I didn't enjoy at all and the fish wasn't much better.it didn't even look right to me but tasted just about ok.peas were nice tho and my wife did enjoy her scampi and chips.she had no complaints at all..I would come back here but I'll definitely be trying a meal that doesn't come with chips

We went there for our anniversary and the food was disgusting. The staff were great, The chef let the side down. I was a chef for 20years so I know my food.

At first we didnt think we would be able to sit down and have food as there is renovations going on but Danny was very accomodating as we needed a table on the ground floor. The food was amazing and the friendleness of the staff everyone was so accomadating. Nothing to fault at all we cant wait to come back

The beers were the worst we have had today in Kendal. Two different beers, both flat as a pancake. When mentioned to the lady behind the bar she just laughed.

Wonderful place to eat and socialize. Such a clean, done up pub. One of my favorite in Kendal. Lian and the team excell theirselves every single time, the food is always the best quality and quantity. Massively child and dog friendly!

Great place, great atmosphere, food was fab and so are the staff. Handy that there is a generous car park to the rear of the pub. Also best beer garden in town.

Our family had been at Brockhole on the high wire adventure for a rainy morning and the Windermere area was heaving for lunch, so we decided to stop on the way home for late lunch and happened upon the Duke. The pub welcomed us as a family of six with three dogs and the food was really good pub grub. The shandy was lovely and ice cold too. We left having very much enjoyed the food and good portion sizes so we were full!

Food OK but service quite slow, took 20 minutes to get a drink at the table

Went last week at lunch time. It was pretty quiet at the time so no trouble getting a table. The meal was lovely I had the steak pie which was served in a tin with a pastry top( so pleased it was shortcrust pastry ) the chips were crispy, and the veg Hubby had the fish and chips again very enjoyable. Highly recommended

Visited today for lunch,ordered soup(leak and potato) soup was very peppery,kids burger was ok i guess,squid starter came with very spicy mayo,rest of the food was ok,but not great. Wont be coming back

Not good at all a very long wait for food and terrible service at the bar from a younger girl Soup wasn't changed on the board so my son got the wrong one and waited 20 minutes for ketchup. Fish was undercooked and chips for the steak pie was also undercooked. Got refunded for the items but won't be back unfortunately.

The lady working the bar today is in the wrong job very rude and I won’t be back!!! Chicken platter came with normal beans not bbq

Mislead by the 4 Star rating. Awful experience from start to finish. Booked a table for myself and my partner on the first floor. Upon arrival the entire first floor was booked out for a function, but fortunately we found a table down stairs with no help from staff. After placing our order at the bar, 2x burgers and 2x drinks the wait begun. 90 minutes later 1x burger had made it way to the table, raw & under cooked! We then queried the location on the 2nd burger which wasn't even placed on our order and had to be reordered. After sending back the back the under cooked burger we then had to wait and additional 30 mins for our food and still had items missing! Once we received our food i even felt guilty eating in from of many other tables playing the same waiting game. Staff were not helpful nor did they seem even remotely interested. Defiantly would not visit again.

Came in while being shown the area, it's super close to the train station, loads of seating outside, also has fire heaters which are so lovely! Food was hearty, served promptly and tasty. Drinks were good also! Huge shouts also to Taz who was really friendly serving us👌🏾

Absolutely disgusted at the “service” we received yesterday. My daughter and son in law booked a table for 5pm for 8 people. The table was upstairs, I’m disabled and found it difficult and painful to get upstairs but when my daughter booked she was told there were no tables downstairs. There was at least 3 tables free and big enough for us all. My son in law went downstairs and ordered the drinks and asked for the menu. He was told that they had stopped taking food orders as the chef had to catch up. Then one of the staff came and said the card had been declined. Luckily my son in law has his banking app on his phone so checked his account and it showed it HAD gone through. This happened to 2 other tables while we were there. I went down to the bar to see when we could order food as our 5 year old twin grandsons were very hungry and I’m Type 1 diabetic and needed to eat. I was told the chef was coming back in about 15 minutes, so was he catching up on orders or had he gone home? The attitude of the young girl on the bar was appalling. It wasn’t her problem apparently. I hope the owners see this review and MAKE it her problem! Mothers Day was ruined for both me and my daughter whose eldest son had come home on leave from the RAF especially for Mothers Day. The older lady said she had just started working there so can’t criticise her as she seemed overwhelmed. The young girl on the other hand was cocky and is obviously not suited to a customer facing role! We left an hour after arriving without ordering any food and we certainly won’t be going back. We ended up at Wetherspoons where the service was quick and cheerful. It’s not really somewhere to go for a family celebratory meal but beggars can’t be choosers. Oh and a final word on the Duke, £2.50 for a Fruit Shoot is bloody daylight robbery

Daughter booked table for mother's day for 5pm was told wait was at least 1 HR no one in .place was filthy staff didn't seem bothered about customers . Won't be going back again

Absolutely incredible service ,fast and friendly nothing we asked for was any trouble or to much , really made us feel very welcome. The food both times we've been have been beyond what we could of imagined , everything cooked and plated to perfection , we've eaten at alot of places but in my opinion this is one of the best places to eat , chill have a warm welcoming atmosphere and we will be recommending to everyone. Thank you to all the staff for the amazing work you guys do.

Food was very nice. A little short staffed but our group was looked after very well by a young Scottish lady. Some of our pre-ordered desserts were unavailable but complimentary alternatives were offered.

Food was lovely. I couldn't fault it. However, the 1 member of staff that was on was rude and made the whole table of 9 feel uncomfortable. We will not be returning for that reason.

To be honest, one girl made the whole experience. I've got to say to please 13 hungry people, young and old on her own. And make everyone satisfied with their meals.. Would have spent more more money there if the Boss or manager put more staff on. Felt super awkward making the very compliant single staff member do any more work as she already made us 100% welcome. I usually complain about my work and being understaffed but my life is nothing hard to compare with this girl. I'd love to work with her in my business because she has unbelievable talent to make sure every customer is happy and a unbelievable work ethic.

We popped out for dinner and had a lovely time. There were some great beers on, good food and excellent service. We were hosted marvellously by Taz and three of us had the smash burger. It was excellent. The pizzas looked good too. There was a lovely atmosphere to the place and a fire crackling away nearby.

Back to being a nice place to eat & have a pint. We met a couple of friends for dinner & we all had a nice meal. Will visit again

Very friendly staff who were welcoming

My family booked a table for 18. This was to celebrate my grandsons 11th Birthday on 23 December. On arriving we were directed to an upstairs room. This was a struggle for my granddad who is 92. He had to climb the stairs. The room was absolutely freezing. We ask for the heating to be put on and was met with an attitude from a young member of staff. She replied, that she could not put it on. That's it! My granddad is 92. Again, " can't do" Nobody, attended us and we were left on our own. The same young girl came upstairs 30 minute later. Went to all the grandchildren and asked for ID on all the children. My eldest, who is 6'7" and is 23. Said, to the young girl, "do I not look older enough?" She said, you look barely out of the womb" discusting attitude. They started to bring the startes out 45minutes later. My 20 year old Grandson, started to eats his and found a snail climbing up the small pot. There was slime all over the food. Only about 4 had received their starters. We took photos and went to complain. We was met with accusations that we had planted the snail, again from the same young girl. We said, "check you cameras and surely if we had, then we would do it at the end of the night before paying. Absolutely, absurd attitude So we just left. They need to get rid of that member of staff. Will never recommend or go back

Popped in here for a quick drink mid Christmas shopping. It's just one of your regular chain pubs, just a token one or two things on the menu for vegans. It was very nice though to sit and just have a drink.

Could do with a bigger vegan menu BUT the staff were more than accommodating with our dietary requirements and very helpful and cheerful, too. All in all, lovely nosh, decent beer, lovely people, my girlfriend and I would deffo come here again.

Delivered starters and mains at same time. Table wasn't clean. Frozen garlic mushrooms - I'd been before and they used to be lovely creamy ones with ciabatta = disappointed. Main was a Christmas dinner - which was mainly mashed potato, most of the rest of it was overcooked and going cold. Other starter was nachos, which had obviously been microwaved. 2nd main was burger, which was like a bit of cardboard and also luke warm. Wont' be bothering going there again for food

Booked a table of 18 here for a birthday dinner and from the start didn’t feel very welcome. There was one staff member that had a terrible attitude from the start yet we continued to eat here despite that. Starters were bought out with no cutlery and ten minutes later after asking 3 different member of staff we didn’t receive any (so it all became cold including the soup) then to our surprise we found a SNAIL in one of our starters. Absolutely disgusting. We let the staff know and no one tended too it. After asking to speak to the manager one of the staff members said “well there wasn’t a snail in it when I bought it to you” suggesting we had put a snail in our starter. How odd when no one had actually eaten their meal. WILL NOT BE COMING BACK HERE ABSOLUTELY DESGUSTING!!!

Turned up with 20 others for a drink after a long walk. Only one member of staff behind the bar but she did a great job serving everyone as quickly as possible. Traditional pub with comfy seating and friendly locals. Real hand pumped beer on tap which was great. Becoming scarce these days.

Appalling attitude off staff. Asked to setup tab which had done previously refused bluntly & rudely. Absolutely appalling won't visit again.

Popped in for lunch. Food was ok, wouldn’t be in a hurry to return to eat there. It was also very cold in there too - maybe we were sat in the wrong spot!

The lady at the bar was lovely we ordered food which took a while confit was half term and very quiet. I ordered vegetarian Thai green curry which turned out not curry tasting and not warm and the naan bread was hard . I didn’t complain but did give feedback to lady on the bar who apparently was also the chef tonight! She said she would give feedback! Husbands meal was ok ciabatta beef with a small amount of gravy but chips were warm nor hot

I don't know how old the feed photos are but my 3 bean chilli was a blatant 1/2 tin of 3 beans from lidl mixed with a barbecue / not chilli sauce. 1/3 small cup of rice and a hand sised naan bread thin and dry. The chilli was like piss water I had to ask for a spoon. The food quality here has died.

The food was good and didn't cost alot the staff were really good aswell . I work away a lot and came here 3 times in a week

Really nice pub, nice beer garden, really nice staff, very clean, had the Sunday Roast, very nice only 1 pick, the Yorkshire pudding wasn’t home made, the rest was lovely, dog friendly, car park, definitely visit again.

Wow...we went for an evening meal and enjoyed the food that much we went back for a 2nd night. The staff were really friendly and the pub itself is really nice. We sat in an outside booth and took advantage of the fire pit which is a great idea. Would 100% recommend this place.

We had a quick lunch here. The waiter was lovely and helpful. Food came out quickly and was really nice and plentiful. Would return to this pub.

Booked a room upstairs for 20. Pre ordered so no major issues. Everything was average, nothing really was remarkable except the whitebait starters. 6 whitebait each, laid out on a bed of lettuce. Yes, you read that right. SIX. Good job we were in high spirits, we just laughed. One of the party did complain and they brought a few more out... but just for him. It made for a good joke between us all, but not for good reviews.
