The Tavern At Hale in South Lakeland

Only called in for a drink but pub was lovely. Great service from a lovely bar lady. Food that other customers were eating looked delicious. Beautiful location/scenery. Will definitely go again 👍

What a good find, The Tavern was recommended to us and this place exceeded our expectations. We brought an elderly Aunt out for lunch who had just lost her husband. It was pouring down when we arrived. The landlady Sam, dashed out of the pub with an umbrella! How thoughtful, such a nice touch! Food was beautiful and we cleared our plates. Sam also showed us the rooms for staying over, very modern with everything you’d need. Also one room is dog friendly! I’d recommend this place and we will definitely return. Thank you Sam for your hospitality.

A good place for a pit stop , quaint, food & drink are inexpensive. Friendly staff , carpark to the rear . Saw a few dogs inside so dog friendly too. We visited whilst on holiday at Morecambe so didn't stay over night

Great pub with lovely manager called Brooke who was on top of her game running the pub so everyone was happy .

Amazing experience,stayed 1 night enroute to Scotland and it was that good we left Scotland 1 night early for a return visit, Sam could not of been a better host, kind, friendly welcoming and treated our doggie her own.very clean comfy and the service and food were second to none, one of the best meals I've ever had.breakfast choice and quality was excellent.will definately return especially Ash.dog is sulking at leaving Sam .thank you so much

Best roast we had in a long time. Compliments to the chef who prepares the ever so crispy roast potatoes in the morning! Just gorgeous. Service was incredible, we stopped by with our Labrador for an early dinner and we felt like coming home! Luna had lots of cuddles and her own bit of roast all plated so she didn’t feel left out! Honestly, couldn’t recommend enough. 10/10 for both FOH & BOH. Thank you for looking after us. ❤️

Cant really say anything about the rooms. But we had one of the best Sunday Roasts ever here this last weekend. Wish we'd gine before now seeing as it's local to us. Roast dinner just like your grandma used to cook. Fab new landlady, down to earth, warm welcome. Definitely be back. Keep up the good work Sam. John & Dawn

Just had lunch there, with a friend, which was good value, served by Lauren, who was lovely.

Me and my partner stopped for a meal on our way back from IKEA today. The staff were excellent and really attentive. We had coffee when we first arrived and it was lovely coffee. And the only way to describe the food is amazing. I had fish and chips and my partner had the lamb. Both meals were cooked to perfection. One of the nicest meals we've had out in a long time. We will definitely be making a journey just to go there again. Thank you

We popped in for a drink, some lunch and a break before a family event elsewhere. They were welcoming, accommodating and kind. We were offered a room upstairs to get changed which was really appreciated; the rooms were lovely.

Lunch at the Tavern today. The air temperature indoors was cold, too cold to be comfortable and relaxing. The food was also on the cool side of warm. We asked for tea/coffee to end with (to warm us up). We were told that neither was available as the machine was broken!!! A kettle would have made a hot cup of tea!!! Very disappointed.

Really bad meal - food fried in oil that tasted old. Pate grey and tasteless. Brown salad. Expensive and staff were rude when politely complained. Avoid!

Our party of five enjoyed one of the best three course meals we'd had. We are definitely coming back.

Took a day trip out to silverdale cove, then a walk upto the fairy steps. Googled 'top rated places to eat near me and 'The Tavern at Hale' came up number 1 so we decided we'd try it out. Great place, nice decor, very friendly staff especially the lady that took our orders and chatted about our tattoos. I went for a smaller plate of pulled pork and cheese melt with cauliflower soup (& a pint of course). The Mrs had a tuna mayo sandwich and chips. The food was amazing and for what looks like a smallish plate of food i was stuffed ! The tuna mayo was packed with filling and the chips were nice and crispy. Highly recommend and will definitely be going back. 👌

We have just had a three night stay at this brilliant Hostelry. The food ie breakfast/ dinner was excellent. Our stay was a positive experience and we would like to highlight the superb service provided by Lauren, who from the initial welcome, went ‘out of her way’ to ensure our stay at this lovely Tavern was enjoyable. We will definitely be staying here again.

Really nice little pub/restaurant off the A6 in Hale. Dog friendly. Nice warm atmosphere. Staff were really nice and the food was good too.

Brilliant pub for a night away.

A nice little pub right on the A6 between Carnforth and Milnthorpe. Can be very busy at times, but on this occasion it was quiet, clean, and easy to find seating. Service was ok, but not the chirpy talk you would expect to find in a pub. Kids had a nice play area outside which give the adults a bit of free time to chat. Plenty of poarking and a good over-flow parking for larger vehicles.

Service was excellent Food was amazing had the burger was a bit messy to eat but tasted great

10 out of 10...what a gem of a pub/hotel..we had 2 nights there..the rooms were spotlessly clean,the TV takes some working out but had all channels and add ons..the food is very nice and plenty of it..Breakfast was superb.The barmaid/waitress/host Lauren is worth her weight in gold..nothing was to much trouble for her,she told us what was worth visiting in the area and made us feel really welcome.

Had a Sunday Roast, today, it was absolutely delicious , it was our first visit, thoroughly enjoyed it, Well worth a visit.

Stumbled upon The Tavern after not being able to find many places open on a Monday in the area. I'm glad we did though as the food was tasty and hearty, just what you need on a cold and rainy night. Very friendly and cosy, suitable to take children and dogs. Everyone is well looked after.

Only went here to deal with a patient for the ambulance service, so no idea about rooms, food or drink

This restaurant is fantastic. Great quality food, beautifully made. Good service. Nice atmosphere. Can't comment on rooms because we didn't stay there.

Wir haben 2 Nächte auf der Durchreise hier verbracht. Zimmer Nr. 1 geht nach hinten raus, so dass der Verkehr von der Hauptstraße nicht stört. Das Frühstück war super. Der WC-Sitz war leider so locker, dass man sich kaum setzen konnte.

The staff are very friendly and their food is wonderful. I was slightly disappointed bt the noise from the road. The windows could be opened, but the noise from traffic was too loud. I thought it was too bad there wasn't a sitting area in the room, as it was big enough.

Un lugar increíble me esperé mucho menos y la verdad es hermoso. Lo único malo es que no habían toallas pero por suerte nosotros teníamos. Se sentía que abajo había movimiento pero no molestaba en lo mas mínimo. Al restaurante no fuimos pero estaba la carta en la habitación.

Driving to Lakes, googled for somewhere to eat, glad we did, excellent food and service.

Best food I've eaten in Cumbria so far. I had the beef and ale pie and my partner had the lamb stew and they were both perfect .. even the kids menu is much better than most places we have visited. Had Sunday roast there last week and it was first class. We both had 3 courses and we will most definitely be dining there whenever we visit Cumbria.

I booked a table for dinner on a weekday evening. The food was delicious and the waitor was very friendly and efficient. Nice and relaxed atmosphere. I will definitely be back on my next trip to the area!

Room ok,shower didn't drain well,road out side very noisy.dinner was OK but the staff were neither here or there,didn't seem interested in serving you.breakfast was the same.Booked for 9am,service came about 9.30asked for a full English but came with missing parts ie no mushrooms no tomatoes,apparently the delivery didn't turn up,coffee took ages.people on the next table asked for a vegetarian breakfast only to be given pork sausages and his partner who also asked for a full English declined on the black pudding beans and bacon ended up with 1 sausage and an egg as the delivery hadn't delivered.wont be back.

We stayed here coming back from Scotland and were a bit disappointed. The room was tasteful but needed some tlc. The walls had marks and stains on them, the coffee machine was full of old empty used pods that hadn’t been cleared out, the toilet seat was broken and there was some light staining on the carpet. The restaurant food was delicious, I can’t fault the chefs and our waitress was very friendly but the girl behind the bar was not welcoming and felt very stand offish which didn’t make a good first impression upon arriving for the night. I’d say the food was excellent value for money but I felt the room was expensive for what it was. All in all I wouldn’t stay here again.

I’m agreement with the last chap, I was one of the people to walk out due to the rudeness of a gentleman who couldn’t even tell us if food was on (in a restaurant seems odd) and proceeded to tut and have an attitude to everyone when he asked if anyone had booked (sarcastically saying, wow this is going to be fun). He even did it to a family of four with children…the guy has no respect and even the staff around him looked shocked, clearly a hard place to work for them, I imagine he’s the same to them too.

Great food as always but the senior staff were rude, very rude and moany, I watched customers turn away in disgust at that way they were talked too. Great way to lose business.

Wed 26 May stayed for one night. Although substantial investment has obviously been made to the pub, unfortunately the basic service and amenities of a B & B fall well short of expected standards. The room was comfortable enough albeit quirky although the provision of a simple chair would have been useful. The bathroom was beautifully furnished but was rather too cold to indulge in a bath or shower. The evening meal chosen from a very sparse menu was OK . Breakfast was, we were told served between 9.00 and 10.00 which was OK for us but would probably be too late for many guests. There was no hint of breakfast on any table, eg cereals, fruit juice etc. From a menu(again very sparse) my wife chose muesli and I cornflakes. Both arrived with milk already added and teaspoons only supplied! We ordered scrambled egg and fried egg on toast which was slow arriving and not too appetising. No additional toast was offered and there was no sign of any butter, jam , marmalade although no doubt it would have appeared if asked for. Overall a disappointing stay although the young man who seemed to be on his own was very helpful. We feel the amount charged for our room and breakfast to have been of poor value.

My family and I came for a meal this evening (2/5/23). The food was delicious and good quality. The children really enjoyed playing on the outdoor play equipment which made for a pleasant experience for us all. The man serving was very friendly and came outside to let us know when our meal was ready to allow the children to play rayher tahn wiat at a table. The decor is very nice. We will certainly be returning again. Thank you.

We stayed here on our way to Scotland. Made very welcome from the moment we arrived. Wonderful room. Lovely large comfortable bed, had good nights sleep. We had a evening meal both of us had the beef stroganoff would recommend you visit the restaurant you would not be disappointed.

Popped in for a drink and 15 mins later popped right back out and went to another establishment! Total farce. Looked like there was a wake on but only one person serving. Absolutely no acknowlegedment from staff and even though I'd waited 10 mins he began serving people who had just walked up to the bar as well as the demanding management who wanted a coffee! Other than that a really nice place.

We didn't book so just walked in. Manager checked with the chef as they were really busy. We got seated all 8 of us. Kids could play outside whilst waiting for food. Service was great. Really kind and helpful. Food was insane. Fish was bigger than the plate and the burger was huge. Great good great service. Highly recommend.

Brilliant staff excellent service

We (19 of us) called after a Sunday walk and they allowed us to move chairs etc to all get together whilst having drinks. We ordered food which was delivered quickly, was super tasty, with good portion sizes and they were incredibly accommodating to one of our party who required a gluten free meal.

Very stylish, staff went out of their way to make us a sandwich in the morning as breakfast is served at 0900. Rooms are fantastic with comfy bed, location offers great views of the countryside and is with driving distance of the nearby mountain ranges. Food and drinks were perfect. Huge thanks!

Where to begin....2 staff working only trying to run busy restaurant ,bar ,kitchen and hotel...absolute bedlam. Customers complaining,leaving,fuming at lack of service due to staffing situation. Room had no TV working (no signal apparently)..staff member had to provide her own Netflix account details to us so we could watch TV. Breakfast even worse...ONE staff member working alone to serve all guests so had to take orders, cook and serve food alone thus huge waiting times again. NOTE TO MANAGEMENT..IF YOU WANT YOUR ESTABLISHMENT TO SURVIVE GET SOME MORE STAFF EMPLOYED!!! The poor staff you have will leave due to literally being run off their feet and being abused by disgruntled customers/guests. Overall a terrible stay due to terrible staff issues....

We held are funeral wake here yesterday 9/1/23 and it was absolutely lovely and an area of the pub to ourselves to share our memories. Can't thank the staff enough you we're amazing and the food you laid on was beautiful.

My partner an I had our two year anniversary in the Lake District having our evening meal here was a choice I won’t regret. I couldn’t fault anything at all. The bar an restaurant is very tidy and clean, the layout is perfect, the food is absolutely amazing well presented and the service was spot on. The bar man / waiter LEO is a cracking guy. Always on the move tending to customers constantly happy to serve help an have a chat with you, didn’t forget anything made the visit much more enjoyable. He deserves a lot of credit. Parking is simple. Highly recommend The Tavern at Hale

Really nice last minute tea here. The staff were so lovely. We had a pudding mix up and it was sorted with ease, please pass on our thank you to the girl who served us this evening! I think we were table 10? We will definitely be back!

Saturday 29th October 2022. Had to wait 50 mins for our starters. which was only 5 portions of garlic bread. After starters we waited a further hour for our main course. The restaurant wasn't busy with quite a few empty tables so that can't be an excuse. Staff looked embarrassed but never apologised for the waiting times. They never even asked if everything was ok. Other people were complaining about the standard of service and quality of food. Overall, the food was average burger was very dry and very hot as if it had been reheated. With the unacceptable waiting time for food nearly two hours in total...we sadly wouldn't recommend the Tavern at Hale.
