Good menu, especially the brisket pie. Beer is what you expect in a Robinsons pub ie all Robinsons, no guests. Friendly staff, but not always attentive. Had to ask for attention several time. We went because our previous visit was so good. This visit wasn't great, I may not rush back.

Fantastic Friday Night with Great Food & Live Music! We visited this pub on Friday night and had an amazing time! The live music was a fantastic addition, creating a lively and enjoyable atmosphere. The food was absolutely delicious—everything tasted fresh and expertly prepared. We especially loved the honey soy chicken, fish and chips and mushy peas. The duck with tempura courgettes was also a standout dish! The portions were very generous, making it great value for money. What really made our night was the attentive and friendly staff. They went above and beyond to ensure we had a great experience—truly willing to bend over backwards for their guests. Highly recommend this place for great food, excellent service, and a fun vibe—especially on live music nights! We’ll definitely be back.

We have been regulars at the waggon for years . I had the brisket pie . firstly to the chef needs tovlearn how to cook and cut brisket for a pie . secondly it required lots of gravy . not enough served with it ! a very small pot of gravy . I asked for more !! no problem it came promptly . the only problem was the £2 charge added onto the bill for a small pot # 2 teaspoons of gravy . when I asked for more gravy I was not told there would be a charge for it . . it isn't the money ! it is the principle .

It's a really nice place to have a very nice meal. Cozy, friendly waitresses and amazing food. Decoration really nice, a typical pub but with a great, calm atmosphere, nothing to do with other noisy places. Regretting not have ordered the "fish and ships", so next time in Stalybridge it will be the first thing to do.

Stopped by for a drink after a walk. We live near by and the last time we were here for food it was disappointing. We had a look at the menu and decided to get a bite to eat. We sat in the bar area and ordered from the bar. This time we were not disappointed, the food was delicious and fresh. My husband was glad to see a steak baguette back on the menu. The last time we here there was only a brioche on offer, no baguettes. I had the soy honey chicken, a little sweet for me personally but it was still delicious and I would have this agin.

We went to the Waggon and Horses for my daughter’s 21st birthday, had a fabulous time, our meals were great, nice and hot, good portion size. Very friendly staff who bent over backwards to serve you. The cod and chips with mushy peas and curry sauce was the best I have ever had. The batter was crispy, fish was flaky, chips chunky, peas mushy, curry sauce the best. Hats off to the chef. Husband had a rare steak, daughter had salmon, all happy people. Ice cream for afters I can highly recommend. Good service all round. 👍

For the fist time in 10 years we had a terrible meal! The of us had the and meal and over night and this morning all the of us that had the saved meal was poorly. The backs in question first turned up cold then back out quickly within a few minutes, absolutely pinged! Such a shame as the venue had always been great. We will go to other local places like Joshua Bradley and The Old Original. The only thing I would say is the fish and chips that another member of my family has was cooked well Ava tasted great. If the food tensions this poor, not only will we not return but locally it will get such a bad reputation it will die. It’s amazing though how in 24 hours, three couple have told their local friends, who possibly will tell others. Such a shame!

Came here 16/03/2025 there were four of us service slow had to keep calling waitresses over from bar where they were.food was okay but portion sizes especially for a man were small to say the least for meals that weren't cheap. We came in at 645 pm for a quite meal with friends but it was anything but, a party with lots of young children running around shouting. I'm sorry we are not anti children but should be cut of point around seven pm people do not want to be eating with noisy kids shouting and running around when they are trying to have a quite meal with friends. We left just gone nine and there were young babies just weeks old still there. Others we noticed leaving who didn't seem happy before, sorry but shouldn't be kids in a pub eatery that late into the night.

This review is as a result of nothing happening after raising an issue. The issue arose with a dessert where a very bad mouldy raspberry was placed on the very small plate facing down so you could not see the bad mould. There is nothing to say it was deliberate but the moukd was so much it woukd be hardcto miss. This was fed back but absolutely nothing was done and ignored. I wasn't going to mention this but the belly pork was just a lump of fat with hardly any meat and the crackling was soggy. Very expensive meal which was disappointing. When asked if it was okay it was so quick that i didn't get a word in but it coukd be seen from the remnants on the plate so obvious. The pate was very enjoyable for starters.

Disappointing after very many nights here previously over the last 20 years. It seems to us that the chef/kitchen staff have changed and/ or the food suppler has,and the food was not as good. I’d say the Thai curry had frozen veg in it (it was largely a carrot curry) without much taste . The beef in the curry wasn’t great either. The garlic prawn starter was nowhere near as tasty as previously. It used to have a tasty sauce, now it has a thin , green liquid. The serving staff were very pleasant, so we did not raise it with them as it wasn’t their fault. . Disappointment was all in the quality of food. A shame, and we’ll think about going elsewhere next time after many years of going here as a reliable restaurant, As an additional note, we had drinks in the bar area first. There were many small flies which were really annoying.

We usually come to this restaurant quite often and it is usually very nice. We came for lunch on a monday to celebrate a birthday. It started off with the restaurant being fairly empty and only a few other tables being filled. The service was very slow and it took at least 20 minutes for the servers to come round then we were sat with our plates for a good 15 minutes. As it filled up the service got slower which is understandable but then as it got less busy the service still stayed slow despite their being many staff and a lot less tables. One of the waitresses said she would bring the card reader over so we could pay and leave, 15 minutes later we were were still sat there waiting so we had to go up to the bar to pay. The food wasn’t as good as it usually is including finding a hair in my fish. The beef fillet massaman curry was also very bland and so we would not recommend. Apart from that the rest of the food was very pleasant. A little bit disappointed to say the least as this is usually one of our favourite pubs to go to.

We sat down soon after 6.00 ordered our food some 15 mins later and were served our meal some 25 mins later which was fine because it meant it was freshly cooked. We both had the same meal french trimmed chicken with chips , veg & peppercorn sauce and we both agreed it was probably the best meal we have had out in quiet some time. Called in just after 2pm on a cold Monday afternoon and was really surprised to see how busy the place was. This is definitely not a ‘rough pub’ and in fact it’s the opposite. The pub has a ‘high end’ feel to it and the customers present appear mature, polite and well dressed. The staff were all polite, smiling and friendly and this certainly helps to create a good atmosphere. There was a good selection of food available from the menu and in terms of the meal choice and how the food is cooked, it felt like the food was cooked by a proper chef rather than pre-made and heated up in a microwave. The food itself was delicious and reasonably priced for what was served. In terms of the pub itself, it is very clean and trendy and has a freshness smell to it so credit to the staff for looking after the place. There is an outside beer garden that is well lit with strings of white bulb lights that I can imagine is great to sit outside on a warm sunny night. I spotted painters giving the exterior of the building a new paint job last year and even though the exterior of the building was not dirty, it shows the owners have pride in looking after and maintaining the building to a very high standard. Overall, a very clean and trendy pub that serves excellent food and has a higher class customer base rather than ‘lager louts’ or the alcapops.

Usually i would complain and send it back, but after waiting for such a long time, did not want to be waiting any longer. The dessert and coffee was good.

Been here before and always enjoyed the food, but today the place was almost empty and the food was not very good at all. We had the Mediterranean Feta bake for starters which really wasn't Mediterranean at all just a hard bit of cheese in a bowl of oily onions and cold, it certainly did not taste like it had been baked or Mediterranean. For my main I had Chicken Peppercorn which was sent back because the food was cold, then when they brought a new portion it was a lot smaller than the original and was very dry with 3 batons of carrot and shrivelled green beans, (another table sent their food back which was fish and chips because it was cold also whilst we were awaiting mine to return from the kitchen). Overall it was a very poor experience, the only good thing was the coffee. Don't think I will be visiting again anytime soon.

Another lovely meal at our favourite pub, we had a smaller meal which was perfect for us - The fish & chips were fab and very much enjoyed by us both. It's so nice to have the option of a smaller meal as not all of us want or can eat a huge plate full of food so this was a perfect choice for us. The Waggon & Horses is quite a unique pub with a great atmosphere and a great place to meet old and new friends. Our thanks as always to Lisa and the fab team at The Waggon & Horses. Many thanks W&P xx

The food is all freshly cooked and the the staff and servce is what makes it so nice. I felt so welcome. I would definitely recommend this pub for any occasion. Absolutely wonderful. Excellent food at the Waggon and Horses with great menu choices. We went for the Chef's Special and it was absolutely delicious - we both really enjoyed it. Lovely relaxed atmosphere with friendly and attentive staff. Highly recommended!

Overall very disappointed with the food!!! For starters we had the baked brie with crusty bread it was more like microwaved Brie and the bead was a single very small slice of sourdough! We also have the black pudding and chorizo in honey mustard dressing, this came out with no dressing, and the black pudding and chorizo, was rock hard due to being massively overcooked, when I asked for dressing, I was served balsamic! We did tell the waitress the problems as we didn’t eat much of the staters and they did remove them off the bill! Main courses again very disappointing. We had roast beef which came out cold, roast potatoes were hard, the side of cauliflower cheese, however, was lovely! Also had a chicken and bacon Caesar salad which was just okay! It’s such a shame this is a lovely pub they really need to sort the food out! I won’t be returning.

After a long period of not eating here, decided to take a chance and what a disappointment. Initially went into the place and was asked to walk through to the bar whilst the diary was checked. The place was ‘dead’ so felt completely unnecessary to check the diary in all honesty. Sat at the table and advised certain food had ran out. How!? This was a Tuesday afternoon. So really poor start to be advising food had ran out from circa 4.00 pm. Only ordered burgers and for the price were really poor. Bread was cold, almost as if they’d been thawed, which made the overall burger cold. Squirty / cheese slice used. Why not fresh cheese? Frozen chips served which were average at best. Salad on the side was fine. Not much wrong you can do with a salad. Didn’t complain as the service wasn’t great throughout really and was ready to just leave by the end. Such a shame and what a fall from high standards set when we first came around 5 years ago. Used to serve quality bar platters, quality homemade chips and generally great homemade food.

Why are the owners not responding to their poor reviews? Whether the reviews being either positive or negative surely you/ they should respond… ? Is that not manners?? With lack of response, positive or negative feedback does that means that you don’t care about the feedback your clientele are giving you? Does that come down to arrogance? It’s a shame as the establishment is in a great location. You wouldn’t think that your establishment is in Hyde. Who would think that Hyde has such a nice pub at the top of Matley Lane?

Yesterday went for lunch and sat in the bar area great price for drink which you can't complain about, but the food was not to standard as one of had chicken curry with rice and chips which came in all in a pasta bowl just all sloppy no thought gone into it I had steak mushroom and onion pie which was not nice because of the onions would not have that again but will visit as the manager is a very nice lady

Very friendly staff made for a good atmosphere within the pub. The food was great. For the starter, I had garlic mushrooms, which was very tasty a little disappointed regarding the size as there was not many mushrooms within my dish. The main course was lovely, and the portion size was good. The last course I had was cheesecake, which was very nice, my daughter had the cheese board which you couldn't fault for the price there was lots of cheese to enjoy.

Visited on many occasions and thoroughly enjoyed service and food. However I booked a table for 1pm and was told on the telephone if we pre ordered food we would have no wait. I did this. We had ordered off the main menu not the festive menu. I asked twice how long we would have to wait explaining we had to leave at 3pm. On the last occasion at 2.05pm I was told they were very busy and pies take a long time to cook. (In a polite way) I had a smile at this. The steak and mushroom pie crust wasn't cooked through. All in all disappointed. I had taken a friend who hadnt been before. Not a good impression for her. We received our our food at 2.20pm.

There were 5 of us having dinner. 4 meals were good but one fish and chips was very overcooked, The batter was a very dark brown and it was hard. It looked like it had been cooked twice. I managed to scrape some fish off the inside( there wasn't a lot despite it's size) but it wasn't nice to eat and all the batter went back on the plate. I ate some chips which were fine. No one asked if we enjoyed our meal. We received our bill and they had forgotten to deduct our £25 deposit. We reminded them. A shame because we have been there several times and some of the other meals have been very good.
