Lovely pub. Terrible roast. For £16, the fact that I had a whole unseasoned carrot and a handful of raw mange tout is a bit of a joke. The veggie option is just a slab of unseasoned Quorn chicken. The Yorkshire pudding was the saving grace. Definitely wouldn't come back here for a roast.

Fabulous food, very reasonably priced. The chicken and haloumi wrap was gorgeous. The chicken was so soft and tender. It's the nicest wrap I've had in a long time. The salad was fresh and tasty too with a flavoursome dressing.

A lovely surprise for early evening dinner. Food was home cooked and packed with flavour and generous portions. The staff were excellent nothing was too difficult even when I ordered gravy which wasnt part of the meal they rustled up some. List of food is much wider than below. The lamb shank was melt in the mouth, beef and ale pie wafer thin crust and filled with meat. Even the kids chicken nuggets looked home made and tasted great. Highly recommend for traditional food with kids and animals! Dog friendly

Disappointing after very many nights here previously over the last 20 years. It seems to us that the chef/kitchen staff have changed and/ or the food suppler has,and the food was not as good. I’d say the Thai curry had frozen veg in it (it was largely a carrot curry) without much taste . The beef in the curry wasn’t great either. The garlic prawn starter was nowhere near as tasty as previously. It used to have a tasty sauce, now it has a thin , green liquid. The serving staff were very pleasant, so we did not raise it with them as it wasn’t their fault. . Disappointment was all in the quality of food. A shame, and we’ll think about going elsewhere next time after many years of going here as a reliable restaurant, As an additional note, we had drinks in the bar area first. There were many small flies which were really annoying.

A very nice traditional pub, I only stopped in briefly for a drink, they had three cask serving Robinson's Unicorn bitter and Dizzy blonde. A good selection of keg lagers and ciders as well. The pub is very spacious with a lovely beer garden out front. I got the impression that many people come here to dine but I cannot comment in that....maybe next time.

Called in for a pre holiday lunch today ( 12/9/24) both my husband and I had the seniors meal and it didn't disappoint. The Prawn cocktail and Pate was a lovely starter. My husband had the Gammon and said it was the best he had had for ages. Seniors lunch menus can be a bit limited in other places but the Waggon had some good choices and the amount on our plates was enough and well presented. Definitely our favourite pub.

Enjoyed our recent visit. Although I've dined here before we (my friend and i) called in on this occasion for drinks only. Can definitely recommend eating here food is lovely. Have to say drinks are good and huge choice have to say I've been in pubs in Manchester more competitively priced. Almost £11 for two pints in my opinion is unreasonable. We usually come to this restaurant quite often and it is usually very nice. We came for lunch on a monday to celebrate a birthday. It started off with the restaurant being fairly empty and only a few other tables being filled. The service was very slow and it took at least 20 minutes for the servers to come round then we were sat with our plates for a good 15 minutes. As it filled up the service got slower which is understandable but then as it got less busy the service still stayed slow despite their being many staff and a lot less tables. One of the waitresses said she would bring the card reader over so we could pay and leave, 15 minutes later we were were still sat there waiting so we had to go up to the bar to pay. The food wasn’t as good as it usually is including finding a hair in my fish. The beef fillet massaman curry was also very bland and so we would not recommend. Apart from that the rest of the food was very pleasant. A little bit disappointed to say the least as this is usually one of our favourite pubs to go to.

Myself and my wife Susan decided to revisit the Waggon as we had not been for some time and also to celebrate my birthday. We booked a table for 6.00 pm but arrived early to have a couple of drinks before eating. Initially we found the pub to be cold and considered leaving but decided to stay and were we glad we did !!! We sat down soon after 6.00 ordered our food some 15 mins later and were served our meal some 25 mins later which was fine because it meant it was freshly cooked. We both had the same meal french trimmed chicken with chips , veg & peppercorn sauce and we both agreed it was probably the best meal we have had out in quiet some time. It was hot and fresh and very very tasty meaning we both ate everything on our plate and thoroughly enjoyed it. From start to finish we enjoyed our visit to this pub and will not leave it so long before we call again.

Called in just after 2pm on a cold Monday afternoon and was really surprised to see how busy the place was. This is definitely not a ‘rough pub’ and in fact it’s the opposite. The pub has a ‘high end’ feel to it and the customers present appear mature, polite and well dressed. The staff were all polite, smiling and friendly and this certainly helps to create a good atmosphere. There was a good selection of food available from the menu and in terms of the meal choice and how the food is cooked, it felt like the food was cooked by a proper chef rather than pre-made and heated up in a microwave. The food itself was delicious and reasonably priced for what was served. In terms of the pub itself, it is very clean and trendy and has a freshness smell to it so credit to the staff for looking after the place. There is an outside beer garden that is well lit with strings of white bulb lights that I can imagine is great to sit outside on a warm sunny night. I spotted painters giving the exterior of the building a new paint job last year and even though the exterior of the building was not dirty, it shows the owners have pride in looking after and maintaining the building to a very high standard. Overall, a very clean and trendy pub that serves excellent food and has a higher class customer base rather than ‘lager louts’ or the alcapops.

Lovely place, atmosphere was good and so was the staff, however, we had such a long wait for our food, which the staff did apologise for, unfortunately when our food did arrive i was very disappointed, i ordered the Duck which had been nicely cooked, but had been served on a cold plate which spoilt the rest of the meal as the rest of it was just warm and the sauce and veg cool, whether it had been put out waiting to be served who knows, also my husbands was also not hot. Usually i would complain and send it back, but after waiting for such a long time, did not want to be waiting any longer. The dessert and coffee was good.

Been here before and always enjoyed the food, but today the place was almost empty and the food was not very good at all. We had the Mediterranean Feta bake for starters which really wasn't Mediterranean at all just a hard bit of cheese in a bowl of oily onions and cold, it certainly did not taste like it had been baked or Mediterranean. For my main I had Chicken Peppercorn which was sent back because the food was cold, then when they brought a new portion it was a lot smaller than the original and was very dry with 3 batons of carrot and shrivelled green beans, (another table sent their food back which was fish and chips because it was cold also whilst we were awaiting mine to return from the kitchen). Overall it was a very poor experience, the only good thing was the coffee. Don't think I will be visiting again anytime soon.

Overall very disappointed with the food!!! For starters we had the baked brie with crusty bread it was more like microwaved Brie and the bead was a single very small slice of sourdough! We also have the black pudding and chorizo in honey mustard dressing, this came out with no dressing, and the black pudding and chorizo, was rock hard due to being massively overcooked, when I asked for dressing, I was served balsamic! We did tell the waitress the problems as we didn’t eat much of the staters and they did remove them off the bill! Main courses again very disappointing. We had roast beef which came out cold, roast potatoes were hard, the side of cauliflower cheese, however, was lovely! Also had a chicken and bacon Caesar salad which was just okay! It’s such a shame this is a lovely pub they really need to sort the food out! I won’t be returning.

After a long period of not eating here, decided to take a chance and what a disappointment. Initially went into the place and was asked to walk through to the bar whilst the diary was checked. The place was ‘dead’ so felt completely unnecessary to check the diary in all honesty. Sat at the table and advised certain food had ran out. How!? This was a Tuesday afternoon. So really poor start to be advising food had ran out from circa 4.00 pm. Only ordered burgers and for the price were really poor. Bread was cold, almost as if they’d been thawed, which made the overall burger cold. Squirty / cheese slice used. Why not fresh cheese? Frozen chips served which were average at best. Salad on the side was fine. Not much wrong you can do with a salad. Didn’t complain as the service wasn’t great throughout really and was ready to just leave by the end. Such a shame and what a fall from high standards set when we first came around 5 years ago. Used to serve quality bar platters, quality homemade chips and generally great homemade food.

Why are the owners not responding to their poor reviews? Whether the reviews being either positive or negative surely you/ they should respond… ? Is that not manners?? With lack of response, positive or negative feedback does that means that you don’t care about the feedback your clientele are giving you? Does that come down to arrogance? It’s a shame as the establishment is in a great location. You wouldn’t think that your establishment is in Hyde. Who would think that Hyde has such a nice pub at the top of Matley Lane?

Table booked. It was very cold where we were seated. I asked if we could move to another same size table explaining one of the party was not long out of hospital and she was very cold from a bad draft through the window. Waitress informed us no, as that particular table was reserved. We had to chase up for drinks order. I asked for mulled wine, to be told errrr I don’t think we do it. Not, I will check. We asked for a small cod on the menu to be told, it’s only on. The seniors menu. Yet it was on the main menu. We were told they could ask the chef to cut it but would be the same price! Two of us ordered the veg soup. This was like water. It tasted like tomato with a stock cube. Very unappealing. For mains, two of us ordered from the Festive Menu. The cheese and leek pie. It was dried up and both pieces had burnt parts on the side. The veg were very hard, just par cooked. The gravy was veg gravy and tastes like a cheap version of a well known brand. The fish looked like a steam roller had gone over it. I’ve never seen a flat cod before. She ate just under half and took the other home to see what her husband thought of it. We skipped desert and coffee. No one checked if we wanted more drinks or if everything was ok. We asked for the bill and ended up going to the bar to pay as we were so cold, fed up of waiting and wanted to leave. During the entire time we were there, 1.15 to 3.30, (most of this time sat waiting) no one sat at the other free table. We did tell someone else at the bar, who apologised. Won’t be going back.

We've been coming here for the past 4 years, and initially it was a great place to have a drink and have a bit to eat, but over the past 12 to 18 months, it's becoming less and less a place we want to spend time at, and after today's visit, we won't ever be going back. They introduced a rule this year that dogs aren't welcome after 5pm Friday and Saturday. If they are not welcome, we are not welcome. The food has slowly gotten worse, and we can't actually remember a visit where we were both happy with it for on the same visit. Today I had the fish and chips, which I should have sent back when it was placed on front of me, but I ate it and have felt sick for the past could of hours. There was so much oil on the plate that's all I could taste. Even the chips were over cooked and the fish batter was more oil than batter. Staff are great. Customers are great but somewhere along the way this place has lost its way. It was nice while it lasted

Great menu, tastey food, had the lunch time deal and it was fantastic value. The hummus starter is delicious, better than a Turkish restaurant in Glossop!!

Nice relaxed atmosphere and was really surprised at the quality of the food .? My daughter ordered the cheese pie and offered me a taste , it was probably one of the best ever, I'm a bit of a fussy eater with oils / sauces on my food and the waitress was so lovely and understanding and my sure my order was exact . Thank you for a lovely afternoon with fab food and great service .

You know what? For a gastro-chain pub, this ain't bad at all. Manage your expectations and you'll leave happy and contented.

Fantastic food, reasonably priced with very friendly staff. We often come here for special family occasions and events. Be aware that Friday night dining can get very busy and quite loud!

Just been for lunch today I had a lasagne I had a knife & fork to eat it with but could have done better with a spoon because it was that watery it was horrible when I did eventually get to the beef that was OK it was as though they had poured the topping on anyway won't be going again because the time before this the cheese & onion pie I had wasn't the best either

My go to for breakfast when I’m in Shaw. Lovely, friendly staff, good coffee and a great range of breakfast options. From a full English to great breakfast sandwiches at a good price. They also do locally made muffins and to die for cream cakes. Well worth a visit.

My husband and myself went for a birthday drink today, deliberately after 2pm in order to avoid the lunchtime dining rush. On arrival we were told that, if we weren't dining, we would have to sit at the 'high tables' in the middle of the room even though there were plenty of other tables available. I am 5'2" and have always struggled to get onto those ridiculously high stools so we decided to leave and go elsewhere, where we were welcomed and allowed to sit where we wished. Incidentally, it is my husband's 75th birthday and we are both pensioners. It was embarrassing and a shocking way to treat customers.
