Voujon in Oldham

Advertise £19.95 four course meal makes it sound good deal. Realistically if you buy the same amount of food a start, curry, nan or rice it adds up less. When I tried to confirm it to one member of staff the atmosphere changed immediately. They weren't friendly any longer and worst is that the meat did not taste nothing like lamb more like mutton hard and grizzly. Kept stuck in my teeth and chewy. A piece of bone was stuck between the meat nearly cause my tooth to break. I honestly used to love going to Voujhan but recently the food isn't as good as before. Charge £4.00 for a tiny bottle water was terrible. Gosh water is like free if ask at many restaurants. Is like daylight robbery. I totally understand business is bad and they have staff to pay but atleat show some respect to customers and give the food and service we deserve maybe! Just maybe the restaurants might be fuller!!!!! Like we walked in to an complete empty restaurants, just us for an whole hour until another table was taken 🥵

Food nice. Chicken tikk starter had bits of inedible chicken and that should been taken off. Main course lovely. Was told on arrival as we had not booked table we could not have the £19.95 offer. Never had this before so was really taken back. Given there was only one table taken. The restaurant was empty! Then agreed it was OK. Drinks were a rip off wine awful. Smallest wine glasses one spritzer and one wine cost 14.50! Scandalous. Then had two lime and sodas each cost £3 per drink. They were small slimline glasses not even a large pint glass. Was charged for coffees when that was included. It is actually not working as a good deal as the drinks cost us more than the food. For two people £75 is ridiculous. Paid the bill and left but won't be returning. Can dine in a better restaurant for same price.

We booked for a Friday Evening the 3 of us had main meals of Nepali Lamp & Bindi Lamp x 2 along with Kema & Peshwari Nans & Pilau Rice The service was all good with welcoming staff only too happy to help with anything such as bringing more drinks . The food arrived quickly & was really tasty & the portion size was enough for even the healthy appetites. Without a doubt worth a visit .

Decided to have a home delivery from Voujon. The menu was very extensive. Our order was delivered in the anticipated period and was piping hot. Food quality was excellent and portions were of a good size.

We have been going to Voujon now for years on and off and what can we say... the food is amazing this time round we chose a couple of the newer dishes based of the recommendation of the staff, the chefs chicken is to die for it's full of flavour and not too spicy for you not to enjoy it, another one of the dishes that we had was the sashlik karahi with the soft lamb.... and wow the lamb would melt in your mouth. For a Saturday evening it was fairly quiet service was on point as always.

Excellent meal one if best ever had. Polite staff. Owner on hand to chat and what a nice guy . Prices were ok. Restraunt well fitted out. Lovely place to eat in future with family and freinds. Would recommend this restraunt as a 5 star experience.

Excellent service and atmosphere, the food is of the highest quality I have eaten at a restaurant in a very long time. I would highly recommend this restaurant to all my friends, family and associates.

This is the best indian around. They love to work with me creating any dish I imagine up and boy do i try! The manager JB and his staff cannot do enough for me. My family or when I bring work friends in. We pack this place out and never do we have a complaint, only a when do we go again. I almost live in this place the food is that great the detail is second to none. And the service is better than I've ever experienced in any place I've ever gone. They want to ensure you never forget the great food and service and experience that is voujon.

New Year’s Eve was supposed to start off with a nice meal so we chose voujon as it was local so no taxis needed however we wish we hadn’t, to start off the waiters couldn’t barely understand what we wanted so we ended up with the wrong curry but after waiting 40 mins we couldn’t be bothered to change it, while waiting we was all gassed out with strong chillies being burnt in the kitchen causing everyone in the restaurant to cough but only half received an apology or free drink. Everything was basic and over priced. I’ve worked at an Indian and I know what good food and good service should be and this place had neither. Wouldn’t recommend.

This was the 2nd year of going to the Voujon for our Xmas Dinner; last year was really good hence booking again. This year – OMG! – it was £30 a head and we were on the middle of 3 sittings at 3.30pm to be off table by 5.30pm. When we arrived it was packed, usual parking problems that go with eating at this restaurant. We were seated at our table for 6 which had been cleared but not prepared again for our arrival – plate with 8 popadoms on, 6 christmas crackers, 6 small plates but no cutlery, menus or usual stuff. It was obvious the staff were struggling to cope with the numbers seated. We were asked twice by different staff, quite abruptly what we wanted to order despite asking for a menu so we could choose. We eventually got the menu and the staff member, taking order was very abrupt and rushing us, talking over us when asking questions – even saying “you’ve been coming here years and you don’t know what the food is”. We asked for chips – “can’t have chips” – but the table behind us have just been served portions of chips? – “they are paying extra and it’s inconvenient to do”….. sorry…. Inconvenient ? I asked. “they are paying extra” he said – well we will pay extra says I…. much to his obvious displeasure. It’s safe to say the afternoon continued in a very similar way so to cut long story short – had to ask for menu’s twice, cutlery twice, iced water three times, told waiter (quite senior one) taking order that he was rushing us and he needed to allow us at least a few seconds to decide; had to have ‘heated discussion’ re availability of chips; Dessert time and menu said cheesecake or kulfi – we ordered to be told no cheesecake or kulfi but we have Yorkshire Pudding with sauce !!! (think he meant Xmas pudding). We said how can you have no desserts left when you have another full service at 5.30 what will you give them ? Miracle…. Suddenly they find a cheesecake and 3 kulfi’s as requested. Meanwhile we had been waiting for half a pint of bitter for 15 minutes for us to be told on asking again “we only sell pints”…. As that waiter was leaving table he bumped into another one stood there bringing us our half of bitter….it was absolute CHAOS. My husband goes to pay bill to old bloke behind counter to be told if you don’t have your receipt for your deposits it’s not counted. OMG… here we go. We had paid £60 deposit months ago – they told us they would not take any bookings for christmas day without a £10 deposit per person and had written it down in the book when we gave it to them. So I argued again and reminded him of their policy no deposit no booking – eventually after some underbreath but legible profanities from him – he took the £60 off. Told us the amount (over £230) chucked the bill under the counter and wanted paying. I asked for a copy of the bill and he refused – so I told him ‘no bill – no money’ simple as…. He then let me take a picture on my phone. Hubby accidently took his card out of machine too quickly and bloke had a complete melt down shouting and swearing at him for removing card. By this time a large queue had gathered outside and in the foyer and staff were struggling to get them in for last sitting – not due to us, just others still in there. The food was nice. Service and some staff attitudes absolutely abysmal – just what I believe a Karen’s Diner to be. Luckily we didn’t let it spoil our day and found it that bad it was funny. Will we book again….not a chance…. Probably be barred after this review anyway. Grand Millon here we come.

Both starter and mains order wrong. Told by what seemed to be the manager the waiter said your wrong!! Drinks orders never arrived and when I tried to approach the manager after asking for the bill twice he didn’t seem too bothered atall about the shocking service.

Waited an hour for starters when we asked about where they were we got told that they was sitting on the side in the kitchen… asked for our main course after we had the starters cause of the wait we had it all came out cold we complained and got told to put it on trip advisor the service was terrible. Two of the curry’s was prawn they both found one prawn in it might aswell been a plain curry … complained a number of times was there about 2 hours maybe longer been going for years never had a problem but honestly after last nite won’t be going again unless things change … knew a group on another table and they’d waited nearly an hour for there starter always recommended this place won’t be recommending it unless it changes…

Consistently friendly service and consistently awesome food. What’s not to like? I’ve been coming here for years and certainly wouldn’t be if all the disparaging remarks hereabouts were to be believed. Thoroughly recommended.

Great takeaway on Saturday night from Voujon. Tasty, fresh and plenty of it. Lovely onion bhaji, tandoori chicken, and biryani meal. Crispy nam bread. Definitely will order again from there - so glad we read other reviews as well.

Will not be having our Xmas Dinner here again absolutely atrocious service our meal was booked for 4 didn’t get a drink for 20 mins then got our starter at 5.15 the main meal came 1/2 hour later. Took ages to get any attention for the waiters for more drinks. To top it all off we wasn’t even offered our dessert or coffee which we had for. Visited the restaurant midweek with a friend, we arrived at 5pm , the only people in the place 20 minutes. The waiter struggled to take the order , he got it right in the end though. Called in and asked for a table for 4.We was welcomed in by the owner who was very welcoming.The atmosphere was really pleasant the staff was very polite, the owner recommended the thawa to me Asian style and l wasn’t disappointed it was really tasty,l tried all the dishes and they were really good.I have found a place that I would definitely visit again We all had a beautiful meal and will definitely come back.

we decided to have a lovely Voujon take-away curry before we went out for the night , rather than go to the restaurant as time was tight , i went the day before to pre-order everyone's meal , which was a brilliant idea , [ by me ha ha ]

I come up to Oldham from Newcastle Ito visit my boyfriend every 2 weeks. He always buys me a takeaway on Friday evening when I arrive. And he buys it from Voujon. Everything I’ve had has been absolutely top notch. There is no Indian take-away in Newcastle that I’ve sampled that is as good as Voujon. So, when my boyfriend comes to visit me, we have to eat Lebanese...because I can’t top what Voujon offers!

Food & service 5 start . Madras chicken & chicken Bhuna cooked to perfection. Indian food at its BEST . A great dining experience. Highly recommended.

Local to where we live so advantage we can walk and have a drink, but if in a car there is plenty of parking on local side roads. The prices are reasonable, the food spot on, and the staff could not be more warm and welcoming, a definite place to go back to.

I’ve been here many times and the food is always great but unfortunately tonight the food was not as good. The nan bread was really thin the lamb bindi only had two pieces of lamb. I complained and we weren’t charged for the lamb bindi. I had carlsberg lager which was acidic and sour. They agreed it was off so I had cobra instead. Real let down. They usually ask if food is ok but didn’t.

We ordered a take away from Voujon and was told 1 hours for delivery. After one hour and twenty minute our order arrive minus a pillar rice. We rang them and was told we never ordered a rice? Complete nonsense as the order was repeated back when ordered. We then noticed the curry itself was a half portion at best (Please see attached pic) we again rang back to explain the lack of curry sauce & chicken and was told they always put at least 8 pieces of chicken in. There was no apology and they did not offer to send a “normal” portion out with the rice... The rice that never came! Complete joke! Would not recommend and would never use again.

we visited the Voujon evening of Feb 8th with friends . We have been before and as the last time the service & food was excellent . We found it a very friendly atmosphere

I have been using this lovely Indian restaurant whenever in the area on business for over three months now. I am always welcomed as a friend rather than a just another customer which makes a big difference when you’re working away from your family.

Delicious food everything we ordered was excellent. The staff were so friendly and attentive well done voujon marvellous customer service

We have been visiting this restaurant since it opened and have never had a bad experience. It is worth going just to try the chicken Nepali which is something special. The Voujon is by far the best curry place in the area.

Love this Indian restaurant. I live five mins away by car. The staff are very good and polite checking if everything’s ok without being intruding. They have fishtanks built in the walls which I love. The food is really good and sometimes as a treat I order it to be delivered.

I really cannot understand why anybody would give a negative review of this restaurant.

I had a reservation for myself and 2 friends. 2/3 of us arrived and were shown to our table. We ordered 2 cokes, when the arrived they were flat and warm. Tasted like Rola Cola more than Coke a Cola. Not impressed at this point but being typically British and reserved we decided to let it go.

Me and two friends had booked a table. One of my friends was running about 20 mins late due to childcare issues so as we were hungry we asked if we could order some poppadoms. We were told we couldn’t as the restaurant policy was to take all the orders together!!!! We said we would order properly when our friend arrived but would just like a few poppadoms while we waited! Again we were told they couldn’t do that and if we wanted to order straight away then our friend shouldn’t be late!!! We then paid for our overpriced flat coke and left and went to a more friendly, accommodating restaurant round the corner that got us some garlic bread while we waited for our friend!

Don't drive here as there's nowhere to park. Went round in circles a few times and ended up parking over the busy A62 a couple of hundred yards away.

Food was ok. Not big portions and OK prices.

Top Indian restaurant - the best around in my opinion. The food is delicious, chicken tikka chom chom is one of the nicest curries I have ever had. If you fancy a Indian definitely try here :-)

Writing this review just after walking out of the restaurant before even ordering food.. the staff have possibly got to be the rudest restaurant staff I have ever dealt with!! Went into the restaurant to be greeted with no hello taken to a dirty table with no table cloths, dirty cutlery & napkins scrunched up like someone before had used them .. then to be told they don’t have a kids menu and children have to choose a main meal from the adults menu they couldn’t share with parents either (just imagine the waste) then asked for a manager who was then stood relaying messaging from the waiter to us because he was to rude to come over and speak to us herself and said if we wanted to share our meal with our two children they would be £7 extra each to share.. never heard anything so diabolical in my life this place needs to be closed down and trading standards need a visit ASAP!

The food is really good but the staff are constantly interrupting to check if you want another drink...constant sell sell sell...really annoying..they may as well have just sat down with us...would not go back..they also have a long slim fish tank with a number of fish which must be bored stupid, it's got to be cruel, either get a big fish tank or don't have them

We visited this restaurant on recommendation from our family, whilst visiting them for the weekend. The outside of the restaurant doesn't really give the impression of how nice it is inside. The decor is modern and beautifully lit, with plenty of space between the tables.

Tonight's visit was with my family and friends which included two 6 yr olds my 1 yr old baby and my friends 2 yr old . To start the food was very nice and pleasant staff . But when asked if the food was ok we complained that the added extra to our dish was 2 tiny prawns which we wasn't happy with so they removed from the bill after the manager being rude . Then when the staff asked if we had finished we asked to leave the children's food as they hadn't finished eating as they had left the table to use the toilet. When we had turned round they had took the children's food which we had asked to leave so we asked for the manager. He came over and straight away started raising his voice at the table . He then got the chef to make some more food which came out far to quick. We asked for the and paid . My partner and his friend then went to leave which at this point the manager became very abusing saying he was a very cheap man and he would buy his family. My partner laughed and went to the car to put my 6 yr old in . This then left me , my baby and other female friend. As we left the manager started to raise his voice shout and point in my face whilst holding my baby In front of the whole restaurant. This vile disgusting rude abusive man had no respect for women and had waited for the men to leave . IT IS SAFE TO SAY WE WILL NEVER RETURN OR RECOMMEND THIS PLACE . I FEEL SO SORRY FOR THE STAFF THAT WORK FOR HIM VILE DISGUSTING MAN

Visited here on a sat night with the family the food was beautiful the flavours in all the different dishes was amazing and the portion sizes especially the starters were generous the staff was friendly especially the owner who we spoke to for a while. So we will definitely be returning

Took our friends here who had come up from Bristol tonight with our little girl as we normally go here on almost a weekly basis as the lads are normally great with her. Unfortunately tonight we were greeted by a very rude old man who is part of the new management who told off very rudely and patronisingly because our little girl had made a mess when eating. My partner offered to clean it but he said no it was OK but insisted on carrying on saying she shouldn't be in here and shouldn't be making that much mess. We feel absolutely disgraced by the way we were treated tonight as I have said we visit on and weekly basis and the original staff are fantastic but the new manage will ruin voujon as we will not be visiting again and if it is the case children shouldn't be there this should be part of the policy but we and always go voujon as we thought it was family orientated but obviously not. Sorry to the original staff.

i love calling voujon as they always guide me and seem to always know what im in the mood for.I did try something different to accompaniment my usual korai lamb . [ it just melts in your mouth] I tried the tandoori lamb chops. just gorgeous. Also had the coconut rice mmmm yummy. the sweetness of the coconut complemented the korai perfectly and with the peshwari nan . perfect end to a busy day..highly recommend ..

1st time we have been out for Christmas. Decided on a curry. Overall the experience was ok. Food was good. Portions were good. Wait between courses was good. Thought the waiter who was serving us could have been a little more friendly but overall a good evening

Lost count of how many times we have eaten here over the years, its so good we keep going back. The menu changes regularly and the chefs are happy to cook something off menu if you have something you really want to try. Service is always great and the 'Meal Deal' is outstanding value.

Me and the Mrs have been going to Voujon for years now and we can't visit anywhere else in the Oldham area because the food, service and price is just outstanding. I have never been disappointed and the Mrs loves it. I highly recommend everyone to give Voujon a try. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Hussein has been there for years and he's a sound guy.

A real culinary institute from the starters to the courtesy mint chocolate! The staff were attentive with there witty prose and charming local ways! Which included a tremendous impromptu Bangladeshi karaoke. The décor was sublime with artful paintings adorning the walls and lighting is used to capture the atmosphere and sights of the local culture.

Been coming to Voujon for 8+ years and have enjoyed every meal. The price is incredible for delicious authentic food. Manager J and JB will go out of their way to ensure you have a great meal, even creating new dishes not on the menu. Always on top of my recommendations list!

We visited here on Saturday night. The waiters were welcoming and friendly making us feel at ease.The starters were lovely, we shared a veggie mixed starter and a tandoori mixed starter. We were impressed with the different dishes on the menu and all tried something new, which we all enjoyed. The price was very reasonable for 4 of us and although the restaurant was quite busy we didn't feel rushed. Parking is a problem as it's on a main road, but there is a road nearby with free parking which was just a few minutes walk away.I would definitely return here.

Yet again the food was very good service was very good and the price was very good. Went on a saturday night but because I booked I had a five course meal for £12.95. Would recommend the restaurant to any one.

rudest manager think his name was Jay has no respect for women and is just beyond rude.The food was disgusting and swimming in oil. Restaurant was really dirty too and they had builder in during service.Do not go so many nicer places to visit in Oldham.

Visited on a Friday evening straight from work in a group of 5 friends. We took advantage of the special offer which is £12.95 on weekends and includes poppadoms, any starter, any main, a choice of side and tea/coffee to finish. This is even better value during the week for £10.95. The choice is extensive, portions generous and food very tasty. Service was prompt and courteous. The only reason I haven't rated a five is that I only realised after we left that we weren't offered the tea/coffee which isn't the end of the world but technically you have paid for it. I also find it can be a bit cramped in there when full but otherwise this is a good choice all round.

Ate here recently with a group of work friends. Table was booked for 10 people but unfortunately 4 didn't make it. When we asked if we could order, the waiter seemed dumbfounded that there weren't 10 of us, even though we explained why. As a result, we were moved to a smaller table, but the waiter made no effort to take any of our drinks over or the menus! The starter plates were taken away while some of the group were still eating and our main meals quickly put on the table. The food however was quite nice. Although one of the group did find a small hair in hers!!! We were asked straight away if we wanted anything else, and when we said no thanks..just the bill, it was brought straight over and we were immediately asked if we wanted a taxi ordering. We said no thanks and within 5 mins we were asked to leave as they had a big party in. It all felt as though we were being rushed through our meal. I never saw any of the staff smile and we had to ask the waiter to repeat everything he said as he was speaking very quietly! This was my first time eating here and it will be my last!

Myself & a 5 other friends visited here on Friday 19th 2016 @ 6.30 we originally booked for 9 people , 3 of them couldn't make it for personal reasons , but as we were there we had to ask to order drinks then our meal , they asked were the other 3 were and we answered not coming so they made us move tables !! We had a good night but service was ok until after we had paid the bill , they were very RUDE and asked us if we needed a taxi !! Hence we still had drinks on the table.. We did appriciate that people were waiting for tables , but in my opinion they shouldn't OVER BOOK. The thing is there is NO seating area for after a meal so we was forced to wait near the front door for our lifts whilst having our conversation,. So as there are plenty more restaurants around we WILL NOT be returning ....

The Voujon serves a vast array of really top class food, and the staff are always friendly and always go the extra mile and help you with any issues you may. We had to delay our meal slightly which was no problem to them and my son had difficulties getting there but the staff held back the main meals till his arrival and even helped him with his bike parking problems, they will know what I mean , thanks to all and hope to enjoy a meal there again soon.

Had booked this place for Christmas Eve for a party of 10 people for 8pm some of the party arrived early and the rest @ 8pm on the dot! starters were ordered and served by 9pm now we asked several times about our mains to be told they where coming - we received our mains @ 9.45pm at no point did the manager apologise nor offer a round of free drinks - in fact he commented several time if we wanted fast food to go to Mcdonalds!!!!! The guy should not be in business he has no idea on how to deal with people he is rude and obnoxious - the food is ok nothing great and to spend over £300 for this sort of experience is just not on!!!!

Food was alright but the service was terrible was waiting nearly 2 hours and 50 minutes from our starter to our main when asked about it the manager said this is not fast food go to McDonald's if you want fast food worst service and attitude.The food wasn't great and this has put me off ever going back

Arrived at 8pm Waited hours inbetween courses. Main did not arrive till 9.45pm after asking on several occasions how long the food would take. When we did finnally get served, the plates of food was slammed on the table. The food we recieved was moderate to say the least although half the party did end up with upset stomachs!! When paying the bill we raised the issues and got told if you want fast food go to mcdonalds with no apology. Overall the waiter service was shocking ive actually had better service in mcdonlds! Food made people ill and the customer service from the manager was aggressive and argumentative.

Eat here regular, always get what you expect, an all round good tasty meal, 5 courses £12:95, madras is a firm favourite, no complaints, thanks

I recently visited the Voujon,after a long time due to bad meal,but this time it was back to excellent food that we have been used to,I will be returning very soon.

Just passed my theory test.., me and hubby went to local Indian. I love this place. But they were really trying to get us out. We had booked a table , I still had a glass of wine left We were brought the bill before we asked fior it, we were asked if we needed a taxi. All very polite. But still. It was clear we needed to leave.... I felt so uncomfortable. I picked up the tip I left. My just go to Mumba spice in future. No one wants to feel evicted voujons. Special occasion or no.

I have again been cohersed into giving my hard earned money to such a poorly run establishment.had a poor excuse for indian food served again maybe the owners think local people are stupid... But on this occasion maybe they are right but I won't go again in future I'll I'll go to a restaurant where they appreciate my custom

Called for a family meal as been in the past. The staff have changed and not very welcoming. Ordered some drinks comes to go with our meal, waiter returned with flat coke. He was informed of the problem, he was not happy and took drinks away but returned with another set of flat drinks. I gave up,food not bad staff commented about returning the drinks,but who want flat coke from plastic bottles at full price. Fish dish was dry no offer of reduced drinks to compensate. Shame use to be a good place.

Been going here for a number of years booked a table whe we arrived was sent upstairs to order our meal , when it arrived sad to say it was bearly warm when asked why there was no hot plate to keep the food warm was told they don't offer hot plates upstairs so we had to eat a Luke warm meal not going there ever again so much for for been a regular customers

Went here for an after-work meal - very impressed with the quality and standard of the food. A choice of appealing and some original dishes, served by friendly staff. All in all a very enjoyable visit.

Called in last night had a lovely mealWe've been going here for years and had my 50th birthday there in March 2015 with approx 30 people and as always great food and great service and great cobra lager

We visit the restauant on a regular basis as the food is excellent. I called on Saturday at 4pm to book a table for 2 people at 8pm, as myself and my husband had been working till 7pm. We dashed home from work both starving hungry. Arrived at the restaurant about 10 mins early and was asked to wait upstairs. We were then advised at 8.10pm that we couldnt have the booked table as the table was needed by a disabled person. This is all well and good but we didnt have another suitable table to offer us. Not quite sure why we were treated in this manner as regular good tipping customers. We left the restaurant and went somewhere else. A place where we were treated with respect and the food was equallly as nice as the Vougon. We wont be going back to the Vougon as I now realise our custom is not appreciated. Karen

Love the Voujon - great variety on the menu with plenty of dishes I've not seen in other places. The food is always top notch and the delivery service is always great too.
