The Shalimar Restaurant in Oldham

Very disappointed. Chops are a rip off. We paid £8 for two chops. The owner wasn’t interested when we spoke to him. There are much better Indian restaurants locally.

Staff polite but surly and indifferent. Service OK. Food- pickle tray watered down, stale tasting chutneys. Curry - chicken over cooked and dry, sauce insipid and under seasoned. Very quiet on a Tuesday. Very disappointing compared with previous experience with this restaurant

Terrible experience. Went with 3 other friends, and was made to feel very intimidated whilst eating. All staff were watching us eat despite the restaurant being empty. As if we were going to try and leave without paying or something. Very uncomfortable.

Fabulous place, with some twists on traditional curries. Staff very attentive, and the place has a great vibe. Great for take out too.

New years eve, overbooked restaurant, had to stand around for a bit until table ready, food just ok. Got drinks wrong twice

We called in the Shalimar for a takeaway tonight. I ordered a chicken tikka biryani. It didn’t come with the usual omelette but that didn’t matter - it was fabulous - succulent meat and loads of veg in the sauce. It tasted beautifully fresh. Peswari naan was great too. I would highly recommend.

6th or 7th time eating in or a takeaway. Excellent every time. Well run place. Our curry house of 1st choice in Oldham. Ask them to adjust to your taste or specification (e.g. less oil, salt or sugar, hotter or not) and they eill oblige. Maybe one vegan and veggie options would be good!

Stunning food and friendly staff

The food and service at the Shalli is always excellent. This visit we were a table of 15, with visitors from overseas here for a family wedding. We ordered a wide range, spicy, less spicy, veggie and non veggie. Starters, mains, breads, rice, etc. were all very well received and the service was attentive and friendly as it always is.

A late wet evening in Uppermill, this restaurant was still open. What a find! Staff welcoming, very helpful with rush to close. Although late there was no question of items on a full menu being unavailable. Service was good with a knowledgeable waiter. The food was top quality. Good sized portions and very flavourful. Definitely worth a visit.

The food here is very good. I had the chicken jaflong with chilli fried rice and a mixed starter. The food was well cooked and came at a good portion. The service was excellent with the waiters always at hnd if you needed anything. There is no car park facility at the place but there are plenty of on street parking nearby. The restaurant itself is nice and cozy. Seems to have a bit of a refurb recently. Service was good.

We have been coming to the Shalimar for years - absolutely super food from a family run business who are friendly. The varied menu is superb and we regulary try new dishes.

Really delicious Indian fare. Limited capacity, so likely will require a reservation most evenings. But it's worth it.

The food is decent and bread was very tasty. However, there is a somewhat eerie feeling around the restaurant as though you are being watched.

Being someone who's family have had restaurants in yhe curry mile, The Shalimar stands out for quality , service snd flexibility (they will adapt the menu for you). Brilliant curry house, the best in Saddleworth.

Really poor customer service. Ordered a delivery that didn't turn up. When I phoned up to ask where it was after an hour he said delivery was unavailable and that we had to collect. Person on the phone clearly wasn't bothered that they had messed up our order. Will think twice about using them again.

EXCELLENT! Staff was friendly and welcoming. The Host was very engaged. He asked our preferences in flavor and made 5 recommendations specific to us. We tried 2 of them and was outstanding. Nice portions. Rich flavors. Impeccably served. The accoutrements were as fabulous. Highly recommend and will be back!

Mothers day treat, family of 4 , very cold restaurant , extremely slow service , waited over an hour for food to arrive, poor quality meat , lamb chewy , chicken tasteless ( packet) Not one of us enjoyed our meal but we were so hungry we ate it.Big mistake, both my teenage children were up in the night with food poisoning !!! We actually mentioned the temperature and food quality to a member of staff. He didn't take it very well at all .. But he did say it could be because his HEAD CHEF was off on MOTHERS DAY !!

We went here for the first time last night. Food was amazing, service was great, the staff were very friendly. Place is lovely and clean and very popular as it was very busy. We will come here again and recommend to friends and family.

On a cold rainy night we ventured into Uppermill eager to have a longed for curry. We live in rural France and it is probably the thing we miss the most we were not disappointed from the beginning to end absolutely excellent so much so that Uppermill and The Shalimar are now going to become our stop off point when travelling north to see family. Been here with a large group of people several times and it has always been excellent, unfortunately this time it was not. The food was amazing, you could not fault it. For a party of 14 everyone enjoyed the food and the kitchen did well to get it out, hot and all together. The service however was terrible, had to go and ask for drinks several times, a general attitude from the staff as if we were being an inconvenience being there. They had plenty of staff around, so this wasn't a question of being short handed.

My wife, two sons and I visited a couple of weeks ago on a Sunday evening. Rang beforehand to reserve a table (same day, not bad so soon to Xmas) and it was ready upon arrival. Was a little apprehensive about the location as Uppermill is awful for parking but at this time we parked without any issues or struggles. The restaurant itself isn’t too bad. Perhaps a little dated but the food itself was good. Did feel sorry for the staff who had to clean up after a few guests left having made an absolute mess of the place - food and crumbs ALL OVER. It was like animals had eaten there. They did have kids but even so as parents ourselves we wouldn’t have left the place like that. After the delay of them having to clean up after the foul-mouthed mob, service was prompt and food was excellent. Other clientele seemed lovely. Price was reasonable. Would possibly return again one day.

Top night ordered a balti it was well hot but managed to sort it .lovely place inside staff were sorted,Think a coach full of Alans came as i could hear people shouting Alan all night.Bought a Brandy just for myself and Phil definitely weren't brown nosing. Only downside was a loose tile in the bathroom and who use 4mm spacers on metros ? Highly recommend would come again next year. Carl Turner

I came here the other day, and service was bad , food is nice. Confused waiters didn't know what date it was. Brought food to the wrong table. Half n hour later he rudely tells us to wait another 40 mins to 35 mins and the other table even complained its the wrong food. Bad management skills and also charged me additional £2 for extra garlic in my curry. LAST TIME HERE!

The food and service is always excellent at the Shalli, and this visit was no different. Really nice food, excellent service and great value for money. Recommended.

Lovely flavours in every dish. Rice delicately scented, naan fresh, light crispy - great but….. the mains were very oily which spoiled the overall quality a little

I ask the staff for recommendations and they will always accommodate you. They are very helpful and will always assist. Food is always good and plentiful.

We went Shalimar for our works celebrations last Friday. - The Restaurant is kept clean and tidy throughout - Staff are friendly and easy to talk to, very attentive. - Food was 10/10, exactly as you would expect from a place like this (Tip - If you are struggling on what to have, shout one of the waiters and ask them for their recommendations, they are always happy to assist). Me and the team all had a great night! Highly recommended and we will most definitely see you again very soon! 👍😁

Thoughtful and courteous service: Asked us if we were happy to sit near another a large group with children, remembered our enquiry about vegan food and offered two guests something different off menu. Very attentive and lovely food. The perfect end to our day.

I have been going to the Shalimar restaurant for as long as I can remember, and I can only describe it as the best. It is consistently and without exception a pleasure to eat there, due to the exceptional quality of both the food and the staff who are incredibly friendly and welcoming. The atmosphere is always full of cheer and the perfect place for a celebration or a nice meal with family or friends. Personally I have spent countless evenings sat with my relations over a table of delicious hot food, chatting with each other and the staff, who are amongst the friendliest people I have met. They constantly go over and above to make sure everyone has what they need and are just genuinely really nice people to talk to. Rahat (one of the amazing members of staff!) and the manager always greet and chat with us, and alongside the rest of the Shalimar family have watched me grow up over the years. Almost a decade has passed since I first walked into the Shalimar, though my parents have frequented it much longer than I have, and I am delightedly looking forward to many more wonderful visits to the Shalimar, as it will always hold a special place in my heart!

I'm 55, eaten plenty of curry, but this place is the best food I've ever had. Beautiful.

Used to rate this place. The food is really good. So if your with your mates in a big group it's ace. You will ignore the dated decor and the service which can make you feel a tad rushed more than well attended.

Never had a bad meal here and this time was no different. We visited mid week for tea with a couple of friends. The service was welcoming, friendly and attentive. Completely covid safe so no issues there. Still the best popadums and chutney tray. It's the onions, I don't know what they do with them but I like them here more than anywhere else! All our dishes were very tasty. In all it's a comfortable and reliable place with good food and service at reasonable price. Definitely going to leave my comfort zone next time and order some new things.

Really extensive menu with a whole bunch of stuff that we hadn't seen before. The Chicken Jaflong was excellent, as was Lisa's Chicken Tikka Murgh Latpatta. Friendly attentive staff. Was quiet when we were in but it was early on a Monday. Really enjoyable

I love Indian food and this is one of the best I have tasted. I had a takeaway due to Covid but this did not detract from the experience. The food is excellent, great flavours and an outstanding takeaway experience. I look forward to eating in when I can.

Saturday night, covid regulations...takeout it is. Went for a lamb Rogan Josh and a Balti Exotica. Both incredibly tasty. Nan bread and chapatis were really tasty as well and the two rice we ordered were perfect. Highly recommend the special rice. Chaps dealing with customers in the restaurant we’re super friendly and all PPE’d up. Had the NHS covid QR code for you to log in if you wanted at the entrance along side a nice little automated hand sanitiser station. Stay safe chaps!

We had a lovely meal yesterday. If you want a relaxed feeling while covid is about you couldn’t go to a better place. The staff are all friendly all equipped with ppe all had masks on most had gloves on. The menus are paper menus but after each customer they are thrown in the bin. ( the menu is lovely as well it’s a shame all that money is thrown in the bin but that’s how it has to be ) The restaurant is very clean very well equipped for social distancing. Even the screens are made of wood with glass in that also has the sign of the restaurant in it. This place has spent a lot of money to stay open while covid is going on. A super well done to the Shalimar we will be visiting again. Lovely food, great service and value for money.

Lovely food, excellent service and still a good atmosphere with fewer tables and extra perspex screens between the tables! Great for vegetarian/vegans too.

Best curry house by a mile, well worth it

They are doing everything correctly with regards to the pandemic, food was good but overshadowed by the expensive drinks. Small prosecco and 3 pints of soft drinks £23.95, I dont mind paying a bit over the odds but I dont like being taken advantage of. No service with a smile either. First and last visit!

I have eaten many times at this brilliant eatery. Both dining in and having a take away. Tonight I have had the best Keema & Sag madras take away. Always served by the staff there who bust a gut to make your experience friendly and memorable. I would recommend this place without hesitation.

So excited and apprehensive about first meal out since lockdown, but the staff and surroundings couldn’t have done more. The food was amazing too. We will be back!

We used the Shalimar's takeaway service yesterday, great food from them as always, but what impressed me the most (I collected the food myself) was the very organised operation they've put in place re this Covid-19 situation. Staff were all masked, socially distancing was in place, and even the waiting area was clearly split up should there ever be more than one person waiting there.

Ordered the night before via the online take away menu.... The food was timed perfectly at 7pm the next day. They do deliver but I picked up for ease.. It was hot and tasted delicious. CV-19 zoom curry night at 4 houses for my dad's birthday in Saddleworth and Marsden. Good to taste a proper curry after all this time being in the strict lockdown! Cheers

We eat regularly at 'The Shali', it's always excellent. Not able to eat there because of the COVID restrictions we had a take away. The food was as good as always.

Previous visit in November both meals were mediocre but thought it was perhaps a one-off. This last visit the mixed tandoori was over cooked and dry.. staff were too busy to attract attention plus we had waited 40 mins for our food. The other meal was far too hot, even after it was tempered down by the chef. We received a verbal apology and an explanation that the chillies used are one of the hottest varieties!! The other couple with us were non-plused with their meal.... drinks my know if they reviewed.
