We visited this cosy Vietnamese restaurant in Manchester last weekend and sampled their signature dishes plus fab drinks. We tried the following: 》Premium Pho with Beef, Chicken, Viet pork sausage & boiled egg 》BBQ Pork with rice and fresh veggies 》Summer Rolls with Prawn and Pork 》Spice me up Sling | Apple juice, Mint, Coriander, Lemonade, Chilli 》Lychee Virgin Hollis | Guava, Watermelon, Lychee, Lime The various meat (Beef, Chicken, Vietnamese pork sausage) and veggies on the Premium Pho really hit the spot plus the noodles weren't soggy at all. The charred Bbq pork was perfectly seasoned, complimented by the veggies on the side and the dipping sauce which cuts thru the oiliness of the dish. The freshness of the summer rolls with prawn and pork was quite lovely too. We had first dibs on 2 of their carefully concocted mocktails and they were mega - Please put them on the menu asap! We absolutely enjoyed these eye candies which had fresh, balanced flavours and so unique. They just relaunched March of this year and offers a vibrant mix of classic & innovative creations, do check them out.

I am genuinely upset to be writing this negative review. I studied at the University of Manchester a few years ago and used to frequent the Vnam stall that was at Uni Place. I have fond memories and recall the tasty food and lovely staff who were always so kind and friendly- I never had a chance to stay goodbye as COVID forced everything to shut so suddenly and I soon moved away. I was visiting Manchester yesterday so made sure to visit Vnam, hoping to relive the taste of my uni memories. Sadly I was met with sore disappointment and one of the most comically poor restaurant experiences I have ever had in the UK. To start with, the chopsticks provided at the table were all filthy and sticky (as pictured). I flagged this to the staff who then brought out knives, forks, and western spoons as a replacement- even though I ordered pho. Once my pho arrived, a piece of paper with my order number was stuck to the inside of my bowl. The beef also looked fully cooked through, not the semi-rare beef you would typically expect. The real disappointment hit me when I tasted the pho, which was very bland despite requesting extra chillis. I asked a waiter for additional fresh chillis, a request that was met with confusion. The waiter seemed to not understand why I was asking for fresh chilli and not chilli oil/sauce, which is odd as fresh chilli is a normal topping for pho. He explained that the restaurant only had the big massive chillis, which I interpreted as you only having the large, mild chillis as opposed to the standard bird’s eye chilli- disappointing, but passable. However, he then proceeded to hand me a singular whole, entire chilli that was not cut up. I reacted in disbelief as frankly, I have ordered pho and requested additional fresh chilli at countless Vietnamese restaurants across the UK, ranging from the truly authentic to more fusion style, but never have I been given something as comically ridiculous as a whole, uncut chilli. Based on my experience today, I can only assume there must have been a significant change in ownership or management. It baffles me to see that the staff working here seem to have no understanding of the cuisine that they are supposedly serving. I honestly do not think it is appropriate to continue advertising your restaurant as authentic on your social media after all these changes. The only redeeming factors were the decent decor and music. It truly saddens me to see that a restaurant that was once so special has somehow been reduced to a shell of what it used to be.

Abysmal service. We had to wait over an hour for 1 pho, fries never came, waiter took half my friends beer and poured it down the drain but left the other empty glasses on the table. Had to ask 10 times if we’re still gonna get the fries we payed for, but the staff was more interested in watching the football game instead of doing their job. The food that came was fine.

We came here last year and it was amazing. We went last night and it was the opposite. When we walked in there were no staff, we had to go and look for someone to help us get seated. The food menu has been reduced to around 4 sections of light bites that look like they’re straight from the freezer. There wasn’t even a Pho option which is the whole selling point of the restaurant.

This is a little gem of a restaurant. Food delicious and staff super friendly and helpful. The waitress I had, I think her name was Lucy, was absolutely passionate about Vietnamese cuisine, giving explanations of the food and how to eat with different sauces. I wouldn't normally go to Asian restaurants but this place is fabulous and I will be back

This place was banging! Lovely and quick service, delicious food and a vegan menu nearly as big as the regular menu. Some of the best vegan meat substitutes I’ve had in the city. If you already order from Wawin, you know the ones (they use the same ones here). We had the vegan beef and chicken pho and it was so tasty. Came with a plate of fresh onion coriander chilli lime and soy sprouts.

I was really excited to try this place however we had to leave before even getting our food and drinks. After putting our order in ( that would have totalled over £50) we realised that 15 minutes had passed and we hadn't received any drinks - we asked a server if they were on the way. She rolled her eyes and said she'd check, she came back to say our ticket was in a queue and we'd just have to wait until their one bartender could get round to it and that could be anytime. After another ten minutes passed with no drinks - and seeing no food coming out for other diners - we advised a different server we were thinking of cancelling as there seemed to be a delay in service. This server just giggled and said " what?" So at that point we decided best to leave. Sorry :/

I came with friends on Friday. The service wasn’t great, took ages to get served, its expensive and my ramen was far too spicy to enjoy. I had the vegan bun ramen type dish. I love spice and I can tolerate hot dishes but this made you cough with every mouthful, it was inedible. It would be lovely but just mellow down on the spice and people would enjoy it more. It took me nearly two hours to eat half a bowl of soup. I wanted to tell them during the meal but it took so long to get anyone’s attention I just thought I’d mention it at the end. I mentioned it at the end but the waitress kind of laughed it off - not sure she heard/ understood what I said. The starters we had, were delicious though Also, there was a misunderstanding when I ordered just one glass of white wine, it seemed to cause a lot of confusion. Initially there was no wine, then they thought I wanted rose then it appeared that I wanted the bottle. Nope, just one glass, they were trying their best. It took three members of staff helping. I understand service is hard I’m always kind to staff as i have been a waitress before but after all that fuss the wine came and it was warm. It has great potential, I just wish I could have enjoyed my meal.

I love the fact that this place exists in the NQ, however, the flavours and food are far from authentic. The veggie spring rolls and noodles dish is served with a pitiful amount of fresh herbs and salads (something that makes Vietnamese food Vietnamese food). And, mine came with a thick sweet chilli sauce rather than the traditional nuoc cham (which is easily veganised). Disappointing, but on the plus side, the drinks were delish.

We were looking forward to this based on the pictures and rating but I’m sad to say that it was no good. Had Vietnamese many times but this one was just bland and tasteless. The vegetables that came with all the dishes didn’t feel fresh. The service was fine. The decor is alright and probably serves its purpose if you are only in for some drinks. We waited half an hour for our drinks, and after an hour every other table around us has been served multiple courses. After asking several times the server informed us that our order hadn’t been put through to the kitchen due to an error. She assured us it was on its way immediately. Ten minutes later, so after 70 minutes waiting for food, it still hadn’t arrived and we had to leave. Don’t come here unless you want to leave starving and frustrated.

Visited with a friend in March and service and food very good. This time not so. Once sat down felt rushed to choose my menu choices/drinks. No Lunch Special menu provided as last time. Chopsticks on table had finger marks on as though they had been used and cutlery not spotless. Starter of chicken in leaves, chicken overdone, tough and plate too small to put leaves on. Daiquiris not the best and served in small tumbler glasses so didn't look like a cocktail. Main served before I had even finished my starter. Would have liked a few mins before starter and main or at least asked if I was ready for it. As soon as I had finished was asked if I wanted another drink or the bill. Again, felt pressured to pay up and leave. Would have liked the opportunity of staying to relax for a few minutes. Would I go back again? No.

Service was poor, drinks were brought out at completely different ones even though one of them was a coke and one was a beer. We ended up sharing one tiny plate because they server couldn’t remember they’d ran out

Have always wanted to visit Vnam but never had a chance when it was in Ancoats. Now it's a bit closer to home, I was able to come for lunch with a work friend. We were greeted by friendly faces and led to a table on the other side of the restaurant. We ordered from the lunch set menu and our food and drinks came out quickly. I had the BBQ pork with rice and we shared summer rolls to start, all of which was delicious! Good lunch deal as well, £15 for a main and any soft drink, and the portion sizes are generous. Went on Sunday 07/05. It's nice to be able to sit outside. They have a full vegan menu with many options. The interior is quite cute with Vietnamese umbrella's on the wall and ceiling. However, the food was not amazing. It was quite bland, even after adding all the soy sauce to it (fried rice with vegan beef pieces). I believe frozen veggies were used, the peas were quite small and dry. The noodle soup was ok, but not the best I've ever had. They ask to pay the bill but don't show you the items you pay for. Only after payment they show the receipt. Service charge was added (don't remember seeing this on the menu but may be wrong). Service was okay. Cocktail was nice. Would go back just to sit outside with a drink and starter. But for a full meal I'd go somewhere else.

They didn’t show us the bill even after asking twice, when we finally got the receipt there was a service charge of 10% The worst dining experience I’ve ever had, which is a shame as the place used to be great when it was in ancoats - When we complained the manager he told us not to worry as he would “have a word with the staff” and that he didn’t know what else he could offer us. Came for my birthday celebration with my family. We decided to come here due to positive reviews. The place was nice as was the location (northern quarter). The food was well presented and generally quite lovely. The service was good but felt a bit rushed with ordering & should’ve asked for more information on the dishes. Never order the starter as a main in this restaurant. The food I had was nice but dissatisfied with the amount & the price for that said amount. The pandan chicken starter or gà boc là despite tasting nice & being beautifully presented , it ridiculously priced for the amount that is served (£6.99 for 3 tiny pieces with a bit of red cabbage underneath it). And the salt & pepper prawns or tõm rang muoi weren’t much either, (£10.99 for about 8 pieces as a main meal, no sides at all, they could’ve included a side or charged a £1 or 2 extra for a side). I couldn’t imagine how disappointed I would’ve felt ordering the squid. I won’t be ordering these dishes again in the near future. It was nearly £20 in total (with service charge) for those two dishes, which is ridiculous. I will be ordering the phō,būn, noodle or rice dishes instead, if I ever return. However the sides, were generous in portion sizes & are reasonably priced (£4.99 for salt & pepper fries and £3.75 for prawn crackers and a generous bowl of chilli sauce). My family had Vietnamese special fried rice with chicken ( 12.99), my mother wasn’t too keen on this sadly BBQ chicken & noodles (12.99) my sister enjoyed this dish BBQ chicken & rice (13.49) my brother enjoyed his dish, it was beautifully presented Chicken pho (13.99) my other brother really enjoyed this dish. The total was £88.20 for 5 people, including service charge (including the ridiculously priced pandan chicken & salt and pepper king prawns). The service was good, otherwise.

I walked in for lunch with my friend as I missed my home country food and coffee. When the iced milk coffee was delivered to our table, I asked for a change immediately because it was made improperly. When adding ice into milk coffee, we need to whisk the condensed milk until it fully dissolve in the coffee. Not like what the restaurant did: condensed milk at the bottom, coffee on top and ice added in. When we wanted a change, the manager simply removed the ice and brought us back the same cup with less ice. Although we explained to him the way iced milk coffee is made, he was not open for feedback and insisted on his way is correct. I am quite disappointed with the respect and service I got. In addition to that negative feeling, the restaurant wrongly introduces the national drink of a country to their customers. I am not yet able to recommend what to order but confident to say that please never try iced milk coffee.

I'm not the sort of person who leaves online reviews very often, but as a Vietnamese woman proud of my country's cuisine and culture I had to warn people after this unexpectedly bad experience. I've been a customer of this restaurant since 2019 when it was still located on Oldham Road. I've also been back three times since it reopened in Northern Quarter. However, my experience today completed destroyed my previous good impressions. This was my first time going for a lunch visit. From the beginning one of the staff was impatient when we asked them questions about the lunch menu. We ordered some food and Vietnamese Iced Coffee. Bizarrely, the coffee was served with condensed milk at the bottom, cold coffee on top, and full of ice cubes. The coffee and milk should be stirred together first before adding ice cubes - because it's condensed milk it won't dissolve easily into a cold liquid (sometimes when trying to whisk very hard it might turn into a weird mixture). We asked for a replacement and requested that the ice cubes be served separately or that the coffee be stirred before adding the ice. However, the manager (a Caucasian man) offered us a replacement which was the same liquid mixture from the original coffee but in a smaller glass, saying that he had taken some ice cubes out. When I tried to explain to him where the problem was, he responded very rudely - raising his voice and even not looking into our faces - insisting that "It's how Vietnamese coffee is traditionally made" and then walking away without addressing our concerns. Despite the poor service, the food was good. However, the manager's disrespectful attitude was unacceptable. I hope this message can be seen by someone who might be able to take some action so that in future their staff do not spread misinformation about my country's cuisine in order to try to compensate for their own mistakes. People who aren't Vietnamese might believe what the manager said, which wouldn't be good for either the image of Vietnamese culture or the restaurant itself. It's disappointing to encounter such behaviour in a restaurant that I've recommended to many friends in the past. And also, as a group of Vietnamese customers, it's frustrating being treated badly by someone who makes a living using the name of my culture.

This is a bit of preliminary review as it was their 3rd weekend of being open. I’d be open to returning again to re evaluate when they’ve found their feet and maybe some form of promotion. The food was nice, not amazing but nice enough, it lacked an authentic charm. It could have easily come out of a takeaway that was also banging out Chinese and Indian food, If you catch my drift. Again, I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt and go back when it’s easier to source fresh ingredients and herbs which you so desperately need for Vietnamese food. The main reason for the 2 star review was the wait on food (and service to a degree) Food took ages. and came in bits and pieces. If we had been warned or told it was coming as it was ready, in the style of dishoom for example then that’s fine but we’d have probably ordered slightly differently. The dining part of the restaurant is separate to the bar area, it’s a bit odd. It’s like a small room with tables in it and slightly tacky (read cheap) decorations. This isn’t a review on the decor more on the odd vibe in there. There is a server stand you walk past to be seated and some music playing but it’s just a bit odd. I don’t normally complain about staff as they are just trying to do their job etc but the bill came with 10% tip added, which unfortunately (and something I VERY rarely do) I asked them to remove it. It was not a full house, and food taking it’s sweet time is not the waiters fault but I watched 2 tables and then myself actively hunt the attention of the staff for a drink or the bill. I had wondered if this was because the kitchen was miles away. No both waitresses were standing at their host stand chatting. Is this because they know food is taking ages and don’t want to be in the firing line? Quite possibly and I don’t blame them. I was asked why I wanted the tip removed and I explained how the food took so long etc. Overall, did it justify the price? No, not really imo. But I guess that’s just what it is in the NQ these days. I would like to go again and turn this 2 star review into a 5 star but the food would have to be better and service faster.

Visited the new location this afternoon and had a lovely time! Food was delicious and staff were attentive. Big shout out to Phillip who served us and was brilliant with our two young children, can’t fault the service we received.

Very strange experience. Had to chase our drinks after waiting over half an hour. Cutlery and plates were dirty. Service was appalling/non existent. Upon asking for the bill, they just presented me the card machine expecting me to pay without looking at the bill. The bill was wrong and it includes a service charge. When I asked for the service charge to be removed, I was then given the card machine again, and asked if I wanted to add a gratuity. Is this restaurant adding a "discretionary service charge" to the bill, and the hoping that people don't notice, so that they can ask for another tip at the point of sale?

Great menu of classic dishes, including an entire vegan menu, presented beautifully. Food was delicious, service was friendly and attentive. Make sure you get the Bao bun starter, amazing!

Ordered Cava which came flat, sent back and was replaced with a cheaper prosecco (still charged for the Cava though). Food was pretty good, not amazing considering the price. Love the decor! 3/3.5 stars seems very fair.

Food was lovely, took my mum for Mother’s Day but had a very unpleasant experience with the staff and had several other issues. Staff were very unwelcoming, when we walked in and had a table booked last min, the waitress wasn’t happy about this, and made us feel uncomfortable and unwelcome from the get go. We ordered a sharing platter and other side dishes. 2 things was brought out with no plates and food went cold while waiting for the sharing platter. This resulted in us getting 50% off the platter which I can’t complain about. But they made this back with a 10% service fee which I had no idea about. Won’t be going again that for sure!!!

My son booked a last minute Mother's Day.treat On arrival the waitress was rude and unhappy we had been booked in late making us feel uncomfortable. We ordered a sharing platter plus a number of special plates and sides off the menu. We expected the sharing platter to arrive first but chips and prawn crackers arrived with a plate of prawns with no plates to eat from, 5 mins later no sign of the other dishes including the sharing platter. When asked why it was taking so long we were told it all came out separately when cooked and we would be waiting another 5 mins at least for the sharing platter. When we expressed how unhappy we were we was told we should have asked for it together and we should have known. We really should have walked out at this point but was told we would get 50% off the sharing platte as it was a Mothers Day meal. The food was lovely but when the bill arrived they slapped a 10% service charge on which was not seen on the menu or receipt to say it was optional. We certainly would not have left a tip after a very unpleasant experience. We would not bother going again which is such a shame as when it was on Manchester Road it was a regular place we would visit.

Great atmosphere, very tasty food, service was a tad slow, however I think it's because of it being a new restaurant so that's completely fine, all the staff were very friendly and apologetic, that's all you can ask for really! I can't wait to see how much they have improved the next time we visit :)

Took over an hour for us to get our starters, and then another hour waiting for the mains. Service was very slow and when we did get the food it was underwhelming, quite bland and didn’t live up to the hype. Won’t be going back again in a hurry.

After all the great reviews we decided to try this place. Unfortunately it was one of the most disappointing and average meals I’ve had out especially for the price. I got the lamb chops and rice and essentially paid for a few bones with boiled rice. There was zero meat. Service was average as well. Most likely won’t be back.

Sorry to say this was so disappointing. Service was ridiculously slow, food was very bland and the battered crab we ordered had raw floury batter. Clearly struggling to keep up with the amount of tables.

Food is more expensive than the other Vietnamese restaurants in Manchester but had to give it a try to make a comparison. The beef pho was not bad, broth was authentic and you can tell there's minimal amount of msg. The salt and pepper chicken wings are definitely recommended. I think the menu and prices are deliberately not listed online as well as outside the restaurant as it is much higher compared to the ones in China town but here's their latest menu and prices so that you can decide before actually going inside.

Changed my review from 4 starts to 3. Summer rolls were better this time round but the Pho broth was bland and coriander, mint and chilli side plate was missing. Had the vegetable summer rolls, which were ok, a little bland (missing red cabbage?). However the pho was amazing. Broth had lots of flavour and the beef belly was perfect. Ice tea was also great.

The new location on Edge St is lovely. Gorgeous beef pho! Super rich and spicy broth. Very friendly and attentive staff. Vnam is a Manchester institution and I hope the new location is a massive success.

We came to the new restaurant opening yesterday and I will start by saying the food was delicious as always! We used to go to the old restaurant and couldn’t wait to come again at the new location. The staff were all really nice and the decorations are ace. Unfortunately the new ordering system let them down and food service was slow but we completely understand teething problems and the staff were great at accommodating to us. This definitely did not put us off as the food was top notch, definitely still the best Vietnamese food I have had in Manchester!!! We will be back very soon :)

We came to Vnam upon it opening on Edge Street, when we arrived we were greeted warmly. We had made a booking, but rang up to change it to earlier in the day which they were happy to accommodate. While the staff were lovely, it did feel disorganised at times. We also felt that communication at times was quite disjointed, that coupled with the staff adjusting to a new order system resulted in our food taking a long time to come. The staff were all very apologetic, and gave us complementary prawn crackers and removed the drinks from our bill which was a nice gesture. The food was nice, however it wasn't worth the amount of time that we waited for it. The atmosphere was lovely, and the music was good, plus the staff really did add to that as they were all attentive and helpful. We understand that with opening up a new restaurant, it's likely to experience teething problems which we completely understand, and we're looking forward to coming back once Vnam has settled in.

Great food, service and atmosphere. We received the food almost instantly. I told the ladies working there it was my first time eating Vietnamese food and they made sure I had everything I need to enjoy it. They definitely succeeded!

I heard their broth have been cooked for 12 hours. So I went there for a quick lunch. We ordered two beef pho and one spring roll. The rice paper spring roll is very nice with fish sauce. The beef pho soup was amazing! I hope the beef can be more raw and the price is a bit pricy

Lovely service, great food, amazing gluten free range! We love coming to Pho because my wife has a wheat intolerance and everything with a few minor exceptions is gluten free so she can just pick what she pleases!
