Viet Shack Restaurant in Manchester

Had a great experience here recently and been a fan of the food since they were just in the Arndale Market.

Went here a couple days ago and the food was exceptional! Can’t wait to come back again , Syl was also extremely good with the service!!

The pho is a bit flavourless. Compared to the prawn summer rolls, which is flavourless as well, the crispy ones are far more amazing. They have 10% service charge.

Really enjoyed visiting this place at the weekend. Had been to their stall in the Arndale before and enjoyed the food, but this was my first time in the restaurant. Friendly and speedy service. Between the four of us we had 8 different starters and mains, all delicious. Even the beer - often a bit dodgy in an East Asian restaurant - was decent. Will be back!

Absolute gem. We came across this place by accident. Some of the best food we have ever had! Recommend the crab taco!!

As we all know Vietshak is a Manchester success story, starting out in the arndale food court and graduating to their own fabulous restaurant. Easy to find on Great Ancoats st, make sure you come early because a queue forms quickly in the evening. We arrived about 6pm and the restaurant was already half full. We were greeted and seated, then it wasn’t long before the restaurant filled up. Service was quick and friendly. I ordered a spicy margarita, which although tasty only filled half the glass. Small quibble tbf. Food came quickly, we had the summer rolls to begin which were beautifully plated and tasted fantastic. Unfortunately I ate them too fast and did not get a photo. Apologies, I’m greedy Then came the mains, I had the lamb chops, which were really tasty and perfectly cooked. Nice and pink! We also shared the duck fries, which is one of my favourite dishes here. They were great, crispy duck, crispy fries and lots of toppings. Defo recommend! Didn’t go for desserts this time, I was so full after the mains. Love this place, would eat here everyday! I also recommend the Cow Burger which I always get at their Arndale location. Super fit

The small plates were fantastic, the surf and turf was average and the bao dessert was delicious. Unfortunately I ordered tea and 3 of the tea mugs we received were dirty. The team were great but they could have been better at recognising the mugs were dirty.

Multiple staff were minimal nice and seemed irritated when asking questions or for a reciept. The broth I had didn't really taste of anything but looked nice. Mostly like water with a Sprinkle of herbs. Price isn't really cheap either. Other places you have a nicer service and food experience.

First time here, food was excellent as was service. Highly recommened.

The best spicy margaritas I’ve ever had! 😋😋😋This, combined with a menu of a vast choice of food options, makes it a perfect place to go to even when different dietary needs need to be catered for. Plus, a big win for me is all the food I’ve tried from the menu is epic in flavour and freshness. I only discovered this place this year, but I have already been there five times! This is our fave spot in Manchester !! The food is absolutely incredible so fresh and so tasty. We got the prawn summer rolls, Tofu and Mushroom Pho and Beef Pho. Staff are always so accommodating and friendly, the overall vibe of the restaurant is so calm and welcoming. This is a place we will always return to!! Can’t recommend enough, pho-nomenal !!

I ordered takeaway to pick up on Friday night - whoever was at front of house refused to acknowledge me, dealt with people in front of me and then just walked off and kept her head down at the desk when she came back while I was standing right in front of it. It was very strange. Eventually got her attention and it seemed an inconvenience I was collecting an order. Food is good but being made to feel invisible isn’t nice, won’t be going back.

Spot on..... Top notch food. Pleasent staff. The steak on top of the fries were to die for... Will certainly be back! This was just a lunch so will be trying more next time.

normally i go to the stall at the arndale market as the value is so good but i have to recommend the restaurant as well because the menu is much wider and portions larger! the staff were great, able to accommodate a large group of 10 with no notice, and the food was phenomenal!

We arrived when the restaurant was full. However the greeter took our phone number and asked us to return 30 mins later. We missed the call but arrived exactly 30 mins later to find our table waiting. The service was excellent and friendly. We were given a good amount of time to read the menu and make our choices. We ordered cocktails too. The food was hot, delicious and beautifully presented. After we chose another cocktail. The price was as expected and I feel it was money well spent. Only one downside was We were seated near an access door for staff which impacted on our enjoyment due to the draught and disturbance.

The staff were excellent in explaining the menu and how to use the coffee in it's traditional pot. We chose off the lunch menu and chose items to share between the two of us. The flavours were amazing and we will definitely return. Highly recommend this venue.

Popped in for a slightly-hungover quick lunch, and got the vegan chicken burger. It was one of the best meals I've ever had. A lot of places do good vegan chicken now, but the peanut sauce, vibrant salad and crispy fries make this one really stand out from the rest. The staff were very kind and helpful, and the vibe was good. I hope to have the opportunity to return and try some more of the menu soon!

Lovely and friendly staff,very attentive! Drinks arrived fast,quickly followed by the food. Generous portions and affordable. You can tell the ingredients are fresh and very well combined together. Overall 10/10 would definitely come back for more!

Upon arrival we did not have a reservation we were informed it will be about a 15-20 minute wait which , I do believe we waited less than that which was great . Whilst we waited we were handed the drink menu and food menu to look into , then we were sat . The place did feel slightly crowded it was a bit small . Food was nice good portion of food they do charge you a 10% service charge which I asked to remove simply because it felt like we were being chased out by the waiter . I understand that people were waiting to get a table , but we were never given a time to empty the table so to suddenly than have two people come rushing us so they can provide a table to the next person , I just didn’t like it . I didn’t even get to digest my food they were all in rush like I just find that rather annoying. When they presented the bill the waiter was standing over us ,I had to tell her to give us a minute so I can gather my purse like it just felt like we were pushed out . Yes people wish to have a table , but you don’t just rush customers sat at the table who didn’t get to properly digest their meal so I just didn’t feel it was worth paying the service charge

We visited the Viet Shack in Manchester’s Northern Quarter for a birthday treat this month. The restaurant is nice and relaxed and the food is delicious. We enjoyed the mixed platter and Prosecco deal which was excellent value and the quality of the food was first class.

We’ve been living next door to this non-pretentious Vietnamese restaurant and finally got to try it. Naturally we had to go for Vietnam’s national dish, so ordered the Chicken Pho. This was delicious; a generous portion with a rich deep broth and juicy chicken pieces. We also had the beef salad and the beef was cooked a perfect medium rare. Because my wife and I shared the Pho, we were still feeling a little hungry so ordered the soft-shell crab taco from their starters menu and am very glad we did. It was delicious too (see photo)! Overall, a very satisfying meal, and if you go now you get a voucher for a 20% discount to use if you return again before 25th January, which is exactly what we’re going to do!

We began the meal with prawn spring roll as an appetizer that was delightful (missing a picture). However, the experience took a downturn with the main courses. The noodles in pho were undercooked (it was very hard), and the steak rice arrived somewhat cold. The restaurant wasn’t crowded at the time. Although I understand Vietshack is popular, perhaps its appeal is primarily due to its location in Ancoats. In my opinion, the food wasn’t even mediocre. It was below average. I don’t think I’ll ever return here.

Best Vietnamese food I've ever had! Friendly staff and great food.

Tasty food and vibrant presentation. Drinks were all good. We went without a booking and were seated pretty quickly. Service was great. Shack fries are a must try.

Brilliant staff, unbelievable food. Not one to miss if you're ever in Manchester. The starters and mains (we had no desserts) were cooked to perfection and tasted beautiful. Relaxing atmosphere and a lovely laid back evening treat. You will not be disappointed!

Gorgeous food, great cocktails, lovely service.

I love this little gem of a restaurant in Ancoats. Very fast and efficient service. You really get a sense of the kitchen which is essentially in the same high-rise room as the seating so the smells and atmosphere is great. A no frills, simple seating setup. Food is spot on.

Wow wow wow!!!! This place is amazing!!! It is honestly one of the best places I have ever eaten. The summer spring rolls were to die for and the squid was so fresh and crispy. The mains were great, we had the brasied beef and duck on rice, flavours were unreal. We had 3 starters, 2 mains and a 2 drinks which came to £63 which I think is a bargain especially with how good it was.

Great atmosphere in this small restaurant. V popular even on a Monday evening. Super helpful staff who asked about my allergies. High standard Vietnamese dishes too eg Summer rolls.

Vietshack is absolutely amazing! We went as a group of 20 or so people for the start of our Christmas party, Linh and the team were so ridiculously accommodating! They worked with us to ensure the experience was smooth and slick and to top it off, the food was incredible! Nothing but praise for everyone and the food at Vietshack all night long. You’ve definitely got some return customers! I would 1 million percent recommend it just for the food but the team made it an unforgettable experience from start to finish! Thank you again for everything from Liam and the Castle team!

Visited Saturday afternoon expensive for what it is. Used the WC not cleaned for a while 2 wall ights full of dust dirty walls dirty and did not smell very good, restaurant not much cleaner! in need of a good clean. if I had not ordered before using the WC i would have left. For 2 of us the bill was £112.00 with drinks, then 10% service charge. NOT STATED ANYWHERE! Took it to £125.00 I hate a place who charge a service charge.it should be down to the customer. Will not return due to cleanliness and service charge.

Surprised by all the 5 star reviews on here. My experience was nowhere near. 2.5 for me. Service friendly and efficient but the food is not authentic Vietnamese in my view. Understand it’s some sort of fusion but oh dear. Very little meat in the Pho making it poor value for money. Flavour was lacking, not like a proper Pho at all. Starters not great. Vegan taco sounds exciting on the menu but in reality wasn’t. (Don’t think Vietnam is renowned for its Vegan Tacos!). Glad so many people seem to love it here. I won’t be back.

Came here with no idea how good it would be but just walking past thought we'd give it a try. The food was brilliant! Highly recommend the summer rolls and bao dessert (which went particularly with the coconut ice cream).

Best Pho in City Centre! The portion is big. Worth every penny. Amazing service in a tiny cozy space.

Food was nice, iced coffee didn't take long, for preparation. Went with family, person ordering had 10% discount. We also got the same discount, for next order.

Since this place doesn't take reservations and we went at a busy time, we weren't sure if we would get a table but they were really amazing at seating us within 20 minutes! All the servers and bar staff were so lovely and the food was so quick to come out. One of the servers let us have a look at the menu and order drinks before we were seated which was a really nice touch too! The food was some of the best I've had in the city and we've got some friends coming up in a few weeks so we will both definitely be going there again to try different items since there's so much choice for a vegetarian!! 10/10.

I been there because was looking a place of Viet food. Food was correct and service a little bit slow for what I expect specially because wasn't totally full. Coreect but not explendid. They charge without asking 10% service when really it wasn't so fast

I went at lunchtime with my sister, we arrived just as they were opening but it got busy fairly quickly as it’s clearly a popular spot, you can see why! The food was all delicious and each dish had its own unique flavours which was great. We shared one main- the fried rice and then got three small plates (£15 for 3 is a great deal), cauliflower, aubergine and spring rolls. The aubergine was perfectly cooked, soft on the inside and crispy on the outside, nothing tough or chewy at all. The mock chicken in the fried rice was some of the best I’ve ever had and it was nice that you got tofu as well as. The staff were all very friendly, upon arrival they asked if we had any dietary restrictions or allergies. The food arrived quickly and everything was piping hot and we were checked on a couple of times to see that everything was ok.

The food here is fabulous - I had fish and rice dish and it was superb - really tasty Vietnamese food. Everyone has good food and the dessert special was v good too! Sweet staff as well.

I visited here with my boyfriend & his parents, it was very cosy and you could see everyone eating their food with a smile on their face. Their wasn’t a wait to sit down luckily! The small plates come out whenever their ready, which I thought was cool. Me & my bf got the squid and the ribs & they were both amazing. His parents got the gluten free halloumi which they enjoyed. I got the com vit which was the duck and rice which was so filling, I just wished for more of the sauce they cooked the duck in, but I used the leftover sauce from the ribs for my duck which I was happy with. My bf got the Shack rice, which he was very happy with - he ordered the beef to me medium rare & got it a little more cooked than he would’ve preferred but he was still very happy with his meal! The Sirracha Mayo has a kick to it which was nice. His parents both got the Com bo bit tet with beef which they also enjoyed. All round, we enjoyed and was thoroughly happy. We’d def return as this place was amazing. The prices reflect the portions which I was also happy about.

One of my fave restaurants in Manchester, very consistent and they started in the arndale markets(still there), the menu is more expensive of course but you usually get your moneys worth and the portions are generous, I get the quack fries a lot and it’s the best portion of duck I can get to be honest! Great food great service.

Interesting take modern Vietnamese Chinese fusion. Expanded from single stall in adndale centre food court. This restaurant expands the menu and offers bar drinks with efficient service. Prices reasonable give current environment. Lunch service has started again post covid. Hurray!

FANTASTIC! I've been here a few times and always impressed at the quality of the food, the service and atmosphere. Most importantly, I have a peanut allergy and when I informed the member of staff of this they were extremely accommodating and helpful to ensure that I didn't die.

Stefan (the manager) was so accommodating, even though we were a party of 6 with two small children, who’d travelled up from London. Despite being completely full, he did everything he could to help us enjoy a fantastic evening! Great restaurant with lovely, helpful staff!
