Vintner in Stratford-on-Avon

We came for pre-theatre dinner in March. We are vegetarians and chose The Vintner because there were decent - albeit not extensive - options for us. The wine and food was absolutely excellent. The mushroom stroganoff was the best I've had and the cheese souffle was ridiculously delicious. The food and wine was very reasonably priced for the quality. The environment is so lovely and relaxing and the staff were all helpful, warm, and friendly. When we next visit Stratford upon Avon, we will certainly be eating here. I couldn't this place recommend enough.

Walked in at about 12.40, we hadn’t booked. No fuss, found us a table and took our drinks order. My Wife ordered a Steak, I ordered Moules frites. Both dishes arrived within 15 or so minutes and were excellent - ‘being well blessed with years’ both of our dishes were sufficient, if we’d had a starter I doubt we’d either have been able to do justice to the steak or mussels and a dessert though tempting was beyond us. We have been to The Vintners at least a couple of times a year for some time and never been disappointed, the service is brisk but friendly and the whole place has very pleasant gentle buzz about it. We have reached the point that if it’s lunchtime and we’re in Stratford we never bother to try elsewhere. We know we’re in safe hands.

We came here for a reunion meal. It was a perfect spot for this. We were upstairs, decor was lovely and it was quiet enough for us to have a good catch up. The food was really good and a nice varied choice. An added bonus was finding Soldiers Block on the wine menu. Also really good value for money. Would definitely recommend

I needed to get an evening meal in Stratford on my own and this was a really good choice. The service was friendly and the food was lovely - I had the Cajun chicken ciabatta with chips and avocado salsa and a nice glass of Albarino - there was plenty of choice of wine by the glass. I had a nice corner table upstairs and felt very comfortable in there on my own.

Great food and cocktails, service was great, romantic setting with mood lighting. Will go again 🙂 Right in the heart of Stratford

Food very tasty and extremely hot.....plates and food.....that's great. Good choice and was able to swop chips for a salad..so that's good Think everyone tried hard and chef and waitresses very good.

Phenomenal meal and stellar service! This is our favourite plan in Stratford upon Avon, dating back twenty years ago when we first ate there. My son adored the burger, and it continued to win his heart. I had the set menu with a hearty chicken liver pate appy, a beautiful sea bream in a sauce with potatoes and a tasty banoffee pie. Great beer, cider choices and a nice espresso capped it off. Our server was the warmest lady, as was the hostess. The restaurant itself is gorgeous and ridiculously historic. Prices were quite reasonable for such a fine dining meal. Easy walking distance to the RSC.

Good food, lovely staff, well priced. If you live near by, or you’re visiting Stratford, definitely worth stopping in to The Vintner.

Can never fault the food and service. I was with friends that came for the weekend and Vintners was my first choice . Unfortunately my female friend tripped on the step on the way out and hurt herself quite badly. I’m sure this is not the first time this has happened. It did puf a dampener on the experience of dining with you.

Great portions and a really fabulous atmosphere, felt like the place to be in Stratford Upon Avon!

very lovely meal, mains courses were great & staff helpful & efficient, however charging £11.50 for a prawn cocktail starter that is served with what seemed like basic supermarket bread that was stale/hard shouldn’t be £11.50. Everything else was so lovely & would reccomend.

This was our first visit to the Vintner and we were certainly not disappointed. The staff were attentive and friendly and service was prompt without feeling rushed. The quality of the food was excellent, as was the wine!! Would have no hesitation in recommending the Vintner and we will definitely be returning.

Enjoyed our meal. The rump steak was excellent. We were delayed and rang ahead to explain. Staff were very accommodating.

We had a table with lots of room, which we appreciated because one of our guests has accessibility challenges. Attentive staff, an imaginative menu and a warm ambiance, helped to make the meal memorable. There’s a good selection of drinks available, especially for those who don’t want alcohol. The Vintner is a gem!

Had a very good meal, pre theatre and was served in good time. Pleasant staff and a very nice glass of rose. An enjoyable experience.

First of all, the positives. We were very grateful to the staff for keeping our table reservation when I rang ahead to say we had been held up in fog on our journey. When we eventually arrived, the service was friendly and prompt and the food was very good. But >>> it was only after we had sat at our table that I noticed a pram alongside the adjacent table: it held not an infant, but two dogs (dressed with coats and bows). The owner then proceeded to feed a dog at the table - the dog's head rested on the table - and the other dog climbed out of the pram and was sitting on the chair, very near to me. I did ask a waitress if she could ask the owner to remove the dog, and she did. Had we not been late; had we not been heading for the theatre and time was short; had the restaurant not been so busy; had Stratford not been so busy, we may well have asked to be moved to another table, or left and gone elsewhere. As it was, we endured. But in what kind of world is it acceptable to have dogs eating off tables and sitting on chairs in a restaurant? (See also my review of The Sawyers Arms, Paddington.)

Another great visit to The Vintner. Pear salad starter was delicious. Always a lovely relaxed atmosphere. Recommended.

A charming restaurant with original beams. Fixed price pre- theatre menu was good value with a limited but sufficient choice of dishes.

We always make a point of eating at Vintners when we visit Stratford upon Avon and it never disappoints. Whether you are eating a main meal or breakfast, the food is great, the staff friendly and helpful and it is cosy and atmospheric. Would thoroughly recommend.

Was excellent. As always. I’ve been quite a few times. Everything was as always. Lovely venue, service above excellent. And food standard was again as always. Very high. Will be back.

Very poor service and customer care ,expensive for the quality offered. The wine tasted of water. My lasagna had one pasta sheet and the meet was soup taste, fullof carrots. Didn't eat at all. Fries were like the last in the pan, very short and burned. Horrible experience.No one checked whatsoever if the meal is ok. Ruined my evening entirely.

A first visit to this beautiful restaurant with bags of charm and a menu that drew us in with a 2/3 course set menu. We encountered friendly attentive staff that gave you space. Our experience in 1 Jan revealed a quietness that is maybe not so in peak season, which we enjoyed. All in all though an entirely fabulous dining experience.

We always love our experience here . Great food, service and atmosphere. We will return .

We booked here for our Christmas Dinner and as there was 14 of us had the private dining area upstairs. The food was wonderful and there was a good selection of dishes and drinks to select from and we all thoroughly enjoyed the evening. The staff were very efficient and helpful making it a superb event. Would certainly recommend to anyone thinking of having private dining party! Well Done Team Vintner

Just had an excellent lunch in this lovely restaurant. The old building maintains a magical ambience and the absence of piped music means that guests can actually chat quietly and be heard! We were served mainly by Lucy and another young lady, who were both exemplary in everything they did. Polite, helpful, cheerful and prompt, without being pushy. A credit to themselves and their manager. Mains were excellent (from a good, broad menu) and desserts were outstanding. Even the coffee tasted of coffee! Highly recommended.

It’s always a pleasure to visit The Vintner and today was no exception. Fantastic food and service and some expertly made cocktails.

Having visited The Vintner on many occasions over the last 20+ years inspite of travelling 60 miles each way to do so, I have never had a bad experience so will continue to visit in the future and would advise anyone to do the same !

As always the Vintner does not disappoint. Friendly staff good food nice ambiance. This time an excellent starter of pear carpaccio with toasted almonds, honey dressing and whipped goats cheese… delicious and imaginative. Followed by a nice risotto.

Have been a regular for many years and it’s always a pleasure. We all really enjoyed our meals - especially the whipped goats cheese starter and the fish. Delicious.

Fantastic breakfast. Food was all perfect and delicious, service was excellent - always there without being intrusive, venue is lovely especially at this time of the year. It felt very cosy, warm and festive. We will be back.

The food was ok slightly over priced for what we had, the table was in an awful position they are trying to pack too many tables in the room. Service was ok When we left we said thank you and the person who I guess was the manager basically ignored us and continued talking to a staff member we found him quite rude , we won’t return

We visited on the 15th December to celebrate my partners Birthday, amazing service, staff were attentive and friendly. Staff especially Emma a massive thank you for the great food and for going out of your way to make the event go smoothly. Can not recommend enough.

A wonderfully ancient eating house with atmosphere and character. Staff are very amenable and friendly. I ordered plaice, which was excellent, but I noticed the price had risen a lot since I was last here. The pre-theatre menu (up to 6.30pm) is however good value and worth coming earlier for.

We visit Stratford 3or4 times a year for the RSC and always go to the Vintner and it never disappoints.Nice and quite atmosphere,the food is always outstanding and the staff are always friendly and helpful.

Always a pleasure and a firm favourite. Great mains all round- pheasant, mussels, mushroom and halloumi burger and steak sandwich. Nice choice of reds. A relaxed, warm and friendly bistro.

Just a lovely evening Sat downstairs in a little alcove it was lovely. Staff all very friendly and attentive. We both had mussels to start which were just delicious followed by hot sandwiches and fries which again were totally delicious

A warm welcome, organised, friendly and knowledgeable staff. Cozy and warm. Excellent food (king prawn with peri-peri sauce as a starter, chicken with lime and melon for mains - can recommend both) paired with a smooth Gavi d’ Gavi that “flicked the nose”. Will be back - regularly.

We had a wonderful small birthday celebration lunch. The team of staff serving were excellent friendly and helpful. Care was taken to select a nice table as requested, although it’s not so hard as all tables are good. We were greeted with happy birthday ! Food menu is varied from burgers to mains and all our selected meals could not have been bettered . The mussels were amazing! My steak was beautifully cooked to rare and the fish was also excellent. Interesting range of wines also available. I recommend this restaurant as something special which is always consistently excellent.

Staff were great and didn’t pressure us for orders - we were too busy chatting ha ha but they were very patient and polite. A warm welcome from them too. Good customer service and staff are becoming a rare breed - so please thank your staff for their great service. Food was super too and no raised eyebrows when my friend and I decided to share starter and pudding. I haven’t been to Vintner for many years and it lived up to expectations! Thank you !

We booked the private dining room for a meal after our civil partnership ceremony. The room was the perfect size for 16, the menu had a good range to suit a variety of tastes and was enjoyed by all. Our waitress was superb and gave attentive service without intruding. So glad we chose The Vintner.

We had a great evening dinner at Vintners, good menu choice, we had the mussels and prawns as starter and Rib eye for main which was excellent. Service was very goodz

We had a table booked for 2.30pm and were all looking forward to a roast. As we sat down the waitress said ‘there is no pork left, and I will have to check on the beef’ She came back and there was 2 portions left. Although the 3 of us found other things on the menu which we enjoyed it was very disappointing that the ‘meal of the day’ had run out so quickly.

Second visit there and it was a very good experience.

We were here in Stratford for a special night. But, frankly, we'd have headed to the Vintner for any night. Its reputations has always been brilliant. And on this autumnal Monday, we wanted to go somewhere that on a chill autumnal evening felt a bit comforting. And so it was. The welcome from the staff, and the service throughout, was understatedly friendly, attentive and warm. We launched straight into main courses - the mushroom burger and fishcakes. Both were superb. Indeed, Mrs B said her mushroom burger was the best burger she's ever had. My cheeseboard was a tiny bit chilly, as if just lifted from the fridge, but Mrs B's sticky toffee pudding was terrific and not at all chilly. So, yes, the Vintner is still doing great things. We had a wonderful evening - a combination of great food and attentive service. Thanks to you all.

Highly recommended the set price lunch menu. Great food, excellent price, pleasant & patient staff (we took ages to look at the menu as there were 6 of us that had some catching up to do) & a lovely table upstairs away from the street. Can’t wait for the next time.

Enjoyed another fantastic meal here with family. I would especially recommend the lime and curry chicken dish, it’s amazing! Service friendly and efficient, perhaps a tiny bit slow at the end after our main waitress had left. However we look forward to returning when next in Stratford and would highly recommend.

Lovely evening. Puddings were outstanding. Mains good although portion size for sides was a little disappointing. Service excellent and wonderful ambience with great choice of drinks to accompany food. We will definitely be returning!
