Vintner in Stratford-on-Avon

Lovely place , food was excellent, service was excellent too , pay a little more for non chain pub restaurants, would love to return , beautiful old building.

We booked the private dining room for a meal after our civil partnership ceremony. The room was the perfect size for 16, the menu had a good range to suit a variety of tastes and was enjoyed by all. Our waitress was superb and gave attentive service without intruding. So glad we chose The Vintner.

Disappointed with the ambiance upstairs, the space was chilly and with no other diners was distinctly lacking in ambiance.

We were here in Stratford for a special night. But, frankly, we'd have headed to the Vintner for any night. Its reputations has always been brilliant. And on this autumnal Monday, we wanted to go somewhere that on a chill autumnal evening felt a bit comforting. And so it was. The welcome from the staff, and the service throughout, was understatedly friendly, attentive and warm. We launched straight into main courses - the mushroom burger and fishcakes. Both were superb. Indeed, Mrs B said her mushroom burger was the best burger she's ever had. My cheeseboard was a tiny bit chilly, as if just lifted from the fridge, but Mrs B's sticky toffee pudding was terrific and not at all chilly. So, yes, the Vintner is still doing great things. We had a wonderful evening - a combination of great food and attentive service. Thanks to you all.

Enjoyed another fantastic meal here with family. I would especially recommend the lime and curry chicken dish, it’s amazing! Service friendly and efficient, perhaps a tiny bit slow at the end after our main waitress had left. However we look forward to returning when next in Stratford and would highly recommend.

Ive been going to the Vintner, as its my favourite resturant in Stratford, for over 30 years. Always a great menu lots to chose from i like. Reasonable price. Great surroundings.

Really good menu. Enjoyed our choices very much. We had a new waitress and she was delightful.

Food was lovely, we had the pre-theater set menu which was good value however if purchased from menu I think these items may have been a bit pricey for what you got. Having said that, the food was delicious! Service was second to none, highly attentive , polite and food served very quickly. We arrives at 5 and had 3 courses served plus coffee within an hour!

Outstanding food from a very reasonably priced pre-theatre set menu. We sat in a quiet corner under the stairs and the noise level was very acceptable. The food came quickly, staff were very attentive and the quality was exceptional.

Consistently good place to dine! Food is fabulous, staff are lovely and its a lovely ambience from the moment you step through the door. We first came here about 30 years ago and have been coming at least once a year, sometimes more, since! We live about an hour and a half away so we wouldn't do the journey if it wasn't worth it! Well done to all at The Vintner!

Made Very Welcome on arrival, very pleasant Staff & Attentive. Ordered Scallops Starter & Ribeye Steak Main. Food was presented & Cooked perfectly. Very Enjoyable. 😛

Four of us dined here yesterday, everyone agreed the food was delicious and the service just right. I can personally recommend the tandoori sea bass fillet, it was very tasty.

Loved the food, service and ambience but just one gripe. I had tiger prawns as a starter, which were £12.95, I think. They were gorgeous, but I just had 4, which for £12 to £13, doesn't represent good value for me. I'd like to see this increased to 6 which would be better value yet not impinge on following courses. As I say it's a small gripe, we'd certainly go again

Late lunch on a quiet afternoon. We've never been here before but would highly recommend. Very pleasant staff, good prompt service, delicious food, very reasonably priced and lovely setting.

We visited for Sunday Lunch. I ordered roast pork, the other 2 guests both had roast beef. All 3 meals were excellent, and the yorkshire puddings were great. I mabaged to sqyeeze in pudding - coconut and mango panna cota. This was delicious! I go to the Vintner a couple of times a year when visiting family and the food is always good. This time I was particulatly impressed with the customer service. The front of house staff were very friendly and welcoming. I felt valued. Thank you.

Great dinner! The steaks were delicious, the lemon tart was outstanding, and the atmosphere was lovely. The waitstaff was very attentive. Highly recommend!

Overall we had a good experience. I would always prefer not to sit upstairs - there is much less ambience. We were also sat on a corner table that was jammed in behind another table. However the service was good and the French Rose good and well chilled. The chorizo hash starter was a bit underwhelming - not really a hash. However the buttermilk chicken with pasta and mushrooms was delicious. 10/10 for that.

We booked this restaurant on recommendation for our anniversary but unfortunately we were really disappointed. The starters were fine garlic prawn and Pate. But the mains were very basic and nothing special for the price. The lasagne was runny more like spaghetti bolognese in a dish and the ham egg & chips was bland and the chips very greasy. We did make our views known to the staff on duty but all they offered was a free drink which we refused. They did finally offer to reduce the bill by one main meal. We have decided we will not return to this restaurant based on our experience

Haven't eaten here for a good few years, but the standard is still very high. Service was good, but could of been a little more friendlier we felt. Overall, you won't go wrong with the food, but you will pay for the privilege! Can recommend if you want a lovely meal for a special occasion.

This is always great and didn’t disappoint most recently. I have visited on and off since the 80s! Ate a fabulous pre theatre meal. Delicious three course meal and outstanding value. Service was cheery, warm and impeccable. Loved it!

Went for breakfast and dinner on the same day as we were feeling very lazy! Poached eggs on avocado toast was very good and tasty. Husband had granola. All excellent. Dinner again excellent. They were busy but the service was slick and the lovely waitress/manager from breakfast was still there! Faultless service and food.

We have been to Vintners quite regularly & it's always been excellent.

The Vintner is our favourite restaurant in Stratford. We really look forward to eating there. Last night the food was exceptionally slow in arriving. We had to wait over an hour after ordering for our food to arrive. It is usually quick, but apparently last night there was an unexplained problem in the kitchen. Furthermore, the portion of Mediterranean vegetables was minuscule and over cooked. The side portion of veg was smaller than usual and slightly overcooked. The Manager and staff were very apologetic and we were not charged for the food or drinks. However, the experience of eating at the Vintner last night was spoilt for us. We will return, as we have had good previous experiences.

Booked an early pre theatre dinner for a second wedding anniversary. Staff came straight away to take order before we had time to look through menu. They never came back. We had to go call a member of staff. They took order and never came back with any updates or food. Finally we had to go downstairs to find a staff member and ask when food would come as we now had only 20 minutes before needing to leave for the theatre - we'd been there for over an hour at this stage and the place wasn't even full. After 5 mins a polite waitress came to say they're looking into it. No one came back so we had to leave without eating. They were happy enough to take payment for our drinks. I suggest you never book to eat here! And certainly don't trust this place for a special occasion!

We came to Stratford -upon-Avon for a performance at.the RSC theatre. We came to the restaurant earlier than our booked time at 17:45, made our order at 17:50 and got our drinks in no time , shortly followed by the starters. Having eaten the starters, we gave a lot of time for the mains to follow and eventually told the waitress that we'd be late for oir performance half an hour before it's start. As no food arrived to our table we just ad to stand up and walk. What a shame for a place with high scoring whoever made that score?!!

The food was absolutely amazing! I had the crispy pork salad to start and the rump steak for main with peppercorn sauce. The staff were also fantastic.

I took my mum out for her bday and she ordered the Ham, egg and chips. She said it was amazing, thick slices juicy ham and perfectly cooked egg and chips. I had the breast of chicken roasted in lime butter with mango, spinach, mild curry sauce and basmati rice. IT WAS BEAUTIFUL😍 We also had a glass of Hugo Spritz which I would also recommend. It is a blend of Prosecco, elderflower and soda water - very refreshing. I will definitely be back!

Lovely quirky restaurant, with old fashioned beams and low ceilings. Staff were excellent and we had a nice rapport with our server. Food, drinks and service were excellent. I’d highly recommend the Cajun sandwich!

What an amazing restaurant! The staff were perfect, the food was piping hot, delicious, cocktails beautiful, great wines and Ella one of our servers was just an absolute joy to chat to as were all the other staff to be honest! Might even go again this week😁

Great night catching up with school friends who have remained life long friends. Excellent food and service and did not look to kick us out even when the time ticked past midnight. Only downside was a ‘happy clappy’ group, what seemed to be a wedding party, who insisted on singing the same song on and off for 3 hours.

My wife and I had a lovely pre theatre meal at the Vinter. The olives were lovely and the starters great. The mains were really tasty and nicely cooked - the Hake was cooked to perfection and the Tajine was great. The service was outstanding - very attentive staff.

We were fortunate to visit at a quiet time and could not fault any aspect of the restaurant, will definitely return!

One of our favourite restaurants in SUA. It was a busy Saturday night but our table was ready 15 mins early which was appreciated as it meant we didn't have to stand at the bar for too long, having arrived early for a pre-dinner drink. Our waitress, Indie, was exceptional and her service throughout the evening was perfect. For starters, my wife had the chicken liver pate and I had the salt cod fritters; both were very good. For mains, we both had the chicken with basmati rice, which was excellently cooked and well presented. We shared a dessert - a very generous portion of lemon cake and vanilla ice cream. All washed down with a delightful South African Chenin Blanc. We have dined at Vintners many times in the last 10 years, and always enjoyed it, but this experience was right up there with the very best. Many thanks to all of the staff who looked after us, especially Indie who ensured that we had a very enjoyable evening.

This was the first visit for a while for a pre-theatre early dinner. There are others to choose from: e.g. Lambs or the theatre restaurant. We prefer to dine on Sheep Street, The menu gave more than adequate options and (4 of us) we all chose different starters, mains and puddings. We all agreed that, with no exceptions, all of our choices proved to be very good indeed. The young waiting staff were attentive and courteous and the kitchen delivered our dishes leaving plenty of time to stroll down to the theatre. No hesitation in recommending this restaurant.

A wonderful olde-worlde setting. Food was top notch. Been here many times over the years when we have visited Stratford and it is superb every time.

The set lunch menu had a limited non meat choice so we ordered from the a la Carte menu which was expensive.

Oh dear. What is going on at The Vintner? I can only hope that whoever is in the kitchen at the moment was either having an off night or was an emergency stand-in yesterday, as my (usually excellent) burger was SO overcooked and dry that it had the texture and consistency of an ice hockey puck. That, together with another unwelcome delay while the previous incumbents at our (booked) table took their time vacating it and the staff seemed too timid to chivvy them along, made us wonder if they are actually losing their touch -we do hope not.

Service was excellent, and the food was fine however, they let a large party of very drunk men into the restaurant - not to eat but just to drink - they were very very drunk in-fact we could see them being turned away from a number of pubs but the Vintner let them in; they were falling over and one dropped a full pint glass right behind where we were sitting; it just ruined what had the potential to be a nice evening out.

My Rib Eye was tough, bland and the sauce did not tase good. Spend the night on the toilet sicking it up.. Believe the quality of the ingredients were to blame (probably the sauce that made me ill) but the Steak was never a quality Rib eye, albeit cooked well. The service was very good and its great place, been before 3 years ago.. was certinaly not as good. Not unusual sadly for most places facing dificulties with high cots and lack of quality trained chefs

Our fourth visit to Stratford and our fourth visit to The Vintner. It never disappoints. The food has always been fantastic and the staff are helpful and polite.

The service was excellent. Great location fir casual or a nice dinner. The baked cheese appetizer and the focaccia bread were delicious. Do not skip the sticky toffee pudding.

Non-alcoholic drinks and focaccia way over-priced; salmon fishcakes have reduced in size and not up to standard; service very good

Arrived 5 minutes early. Told that table was not yet vacated. We were put upstairs in what seemed like a spare room. It was devoid of any atmosphere. As we had booked for a special anniversary dinner, it was a let down. Although the food was good,staff friendly, we felt the night lacked ambiance. We would have preferred to have been with the majority of diners . Could not understand why they ask if you are celebrating an occasion if they don’t cater with a decent table.

Excellent service but food disappointing. Smashed avocado on toast was tasteless. Small overcooked poor quality poached eggs. Cheap bread!
