Vin Santo in Cheshire West and Chester

amazing atmosphere and excellent service would highly recommend to anyone that loves great vibes and great wine, will definitely be returning

Been here a couple of times - love the atmosphere and the service both times was excellent. They always seem to have time to talk to you about the wines and advise what to have - the quality of everything, food and wine is amazing. It's nice that they decant the wine and serve it properly - the food is cold platters of meat and cheese but that perfectly compliments the excellent wines and everything is fresh - one tip, try the olives - to die for! This place is an absolute must for people visiting Chester who appreciate good wine served as it should be.

Fabulous place to relax with a superb quality wine. Proper sommelier knew his stuff . Service excellent. Building g is amazing .

These guys did a collaboration with Homebrew tap in Hoole - we had the natural wine flight and it was lovely! Wine master was super knowledgeable and passionate about the vinos on offer & they were lovely choices too! We had a white, orange and red choice. Our favourite was the Austrian white wine! 100% recommend.

Brilliant and comprehensive selection of great wines always a nice atmosphere and very knowledgeable and helpful staff, if you enjoy wine on any level you won't be disappointed

Wow what a place! Myself and my partner visited here over 5 years ago and fell in love with all of it, the vibes, the feel of the place, the staff and most importantly the wine. We took a trip back tonight and love the place even more. Not that you have to but we love chatting to the guys who work there, they are sooooo knowledgeable and Sam (legend) recommended the best bottles of red we could have asked for! Off the wine list bottles not even on the wine menu! (Aslong as you buy the bottle!) Which of course was right up our street! That's when the staff really come into their own! Sam was fabulous, he brought us 4 bottles not on the menu, within our price range and explained each to us, and we were blown away, he really knows his stuff. We love the fact with this place you can buy a glass of wine, or a bottle to enjoy, or a bottle to take home ! Whatever you fancy really but most importantly you get honest recommendations based on your taste not forcing you to buy the most expensive bottle like other places do.. really should go down enjoy a bottle of wine or 2 and indulge in the cheese and crackers to go with it! About a year since we last visited and were pleased to see it still going strong. We had a lovely bottle and some cheese and olives and pate, all of which were delicious. Ralph was very pleasant and knowledgeable. Highly recommended.

I went to Vin Santo for lunch and drinks with my wife and her parents - we had a great time. The rustic decor and low-key lighting makes it great for a relaxing day out. The selection of nibbles we had (cheese, meats, bread etc) was amazing, and the staff were very attentive and helpful. They've also got a very solid beer selection if you're not a wine drinker. No complaints - I'll definitely be coming back.

We absolutely love this place. The venue itself is amazing and heaped in history. The staff are knowledgeable, welcoming and friendly. The wine is delightful and worth paying that little bit extra for. They have a small nibbles selection to accompany the wine which is amazing. The mushroom pate and focaccia is so tasty and a favourite of ours. We always pay a visit to vin Santo every time we are in Chester. It was recommended to us and now we recommend it to everyone

Prosecco was warm, had to add an ice cube. Bar was empty but weren’t allowed to sit where we wanted, smelt of sewage around the table we did get so we decided against ordering food. Disappointing as I’ve been here before and had a very nice time!

A return visit for us to Vin Santo. A beautiful and intimate space, candle lit with vaulted ceilings. Great sharing platters and excellent choice of wines. Not too expensive and definitely worth a visit.

Didn’t eat here but the choice of cheese, charcuterie and pate made us wish we hadn’t eaten before. Gorgeous wine. And the atmosphere of the place is too notch. If you love wine this is definitely worth a visit!!!! Can’t wait to come back to go again!!!

An absolute dream of a Wine Merchants and Bar, a fantastic collection from the friendly and easy drinking to the real interesting pieces for the hobbyist. Service was FANTASTIC, friendly, attentive though not overbearing. I can say for sure, I will eagerly return.

Amazing place. Big wine selection all served by the glass, set in a really cool building. Staff are really friendly and knowledgeable. Food is just a snack menu, but what they have is fantastic! If you like cured meat, cheese and wine then this is a must if you are in Chester.

I haven't tried the food yet, but as far as the wine is concerned I have to say a wide choice of bottles (for wine by the glass the choice is limited) for all budgets. Stunning location, nothing to say. Perfect for a romantic evening of meditation in the company of excellent wine. Prices quite high, but worth it.

Stumbled upon this place and service was second to none and so friendly, will definitely be back. Wine was exceptional and the building and atmosphere was second to none, definitely a gem of Chester.

Blown away by everything about this little gem of a place. Food was a simple menu and yet so delicious and wine is just simply delectable, all in the beautiful setting of a cellar, with the most effiecient, courteous team. As a gluten free eater, I was accommodated for wonderfully. I will definitely make an effort to go back here and if you passing you should pop in!

Amazing wine with a good selection & great cheese options. Never been to a wine bar this nice and authentic before. Going here is a real experience especially with the history, good for couples Manager/ staff really friendly & helpful. The prices are really good and I would be happy to spend my money here. Will definitely return the building is stunning.

Make sure to stop here if you like wine. We had a great stop here during our visit to Chester. Cozy cellar with great selection. Be sure to buy a bottle since you can then choose from the whole store ;)

Very knowledgeable owners and staff make Vin Santo a gem for wine tastings. The fabulous centuries old crypts just add panache to the whole experience.

We called in at Vin Santo while we were staying in Chester. It’s amazing; the 13th century cellars are a glorious setting, beautiful how the old structure has been so well respected and beautifully preserved. We really enjoyed the wines and the staff were very pleasant and helpful. Would highly recommend this great place.

Had a wonderful afternoon here as part of my daughter's 'hen' celebrations. Wine tasting for our group was so enjoyable and very informative. Such a good couple of hours we decided to stay on, basking in the glorious Chester sunshine outside, whilst sampling further more wines. Can't fault the venue or it's proprietor and staff who were very accommodating.

Impressed on my first visit, so had to come back. Wow! Fantastic, friendly service, awesome selection of wine and Gin, so took advantage. This is the goto place in Chester. Welll done to the team at Vin Santo on the day. Superb

Fabulous, what’s not to like? Large wine choice, including choosing your own from the retail shelves and quaffing it in a beautiful vaulted room. Add in a cheese and meats selection as an alternative simple meal or tapas….. Very friendly knowledgeable staff and quirky cocktail list. Reasonably priced and a lovely evening.

This place was so pretty, we just had to pop in as we were walking by. And we were so glad that we did! Lovely relaxed atmosphere and top notch service from Francois. He not only recommended a wonderful full bodied red (Vacqueyras) but he also gave us some great advice on where to eat after (we settled on Hamayuu which was brilliant!) A real gem, we just wish we lived closer! Thanks again Francois! x

Asked a person where there was a wine bar, and was directed to Vin Santo. What a great place, a wine lover's dream. Great building and great atmosphere along with friendly staff. Looking forward to our next visit to Chester so we can come here again.

We discovered this gem on our way to dinner and stopped in afterwards for some wine. Situated in a magnificent cellar, the atmosphere is sophisticated, somewhere where you can sit and have a pleasant conversation while sipping on excellent wine or other drink. The staff are welcoming and know their wines. The selection is great! We did not try any of the charcuterie or cheeses as we had just come from a meal. We'll leave that for next time, because we will be returning. Highly recommended.

Called here for lunch on a Monday after an extremely busy weekend in Chester. Made to feel very welcome. We had wine, a selection of cheeses and charcuterie. Lovely selection and a very enjoyable lunch.

Great place to go for a few fancy drinks pre meal (or post meal). Nice red wines and the wife has a great selection of fizzes. Service is always top level with great knowledge and the right level of service.

We recently attended a private wine tasting at Vin Santo. It was absolutely brilliant! We were a group of 6, it included four glasses of wine and nibbles/snacks. Cost was £20 per person. Great choice of wine and unbelievable knowledge from our host. I would highly recommend it!

Very helpful staff. Found exactly what I needed for a family dinner the next night.

Stumbled across this place after trying to go in watergates but they were booking only, the bar was full but we ordered a bottle in the shop and had a drink on the barrels. Once a table became available we were moved into the bar and ordered some great charcuterie and more wine, a great couple of hours in a wonderful setting, also bought a couple of bottles to take home on the way out

Unfortunately this was a awful evening. Far to many people booked in you could not move. Huge queues for each table. It was impossible to get served. And the tastings were the smallest I had ever come across from a wine tasting event. We moved on else were only to bump into people from the wine tasting that had also left for the same reason. Stunning cathedral.

We've visited here several times over the years and have introduced many of our friends to this lovely little wine bar. The service is always warm and friendly and the quality of the wine is exceptional. Special mention must go to the Lovely Francois, a charming guy who remembered us from pre-pandemic years and gave a lovely warm welcome again. We will be back next time we are in Chester.

We had a delicious Sicilia wine which was very expensive some cheese & meats to enjoy the wine. we also brought some bottles of wine. Good service from Francois who is very knowledgeable. Nice seating area. It's worth a visit.

What a find! We happened upon this wine shop/ bar when we were actually on our way to another wine bar. The staff Cino, Francois and Hebe were so welcoming and immensely knowledgeable about wine and provenance of them and the cheeses and food they offer. On the subject of the quality, the wine recommendations were perfect, the cheeses and charcuterie were some of the best we have ever tasted. Recommend to the newbies and the hard core wine aficionados. Definitely visit, you won't regret it.

Really lovely vibe in this place. Feels very classy. Lighting and ambiance just perfect. Had the Chablis, which I thought was very good value, alongside a selection of cheese. A great way to spend an hour or two in a dreary February day.

We did a private wine tasting at Vin Santo for a 30th Birthday and it was excellent would highly recommend - Tom and the team were really accommodating and the bar itself is lovely, we shall be back!

Fab place! Visited here for the first time tonight after going to the Christmas markets. Loved it - really cute cellar bar in a crypt with a great wine list. Very chilled out, cosy atmosphere creating a lovely vibe. Will definitely return.

If you only visit one venue in Chester, make it this one! It has a lovely ambiance and is somewhere I will be coming back too regularly. There is a good selection of wine and gin especially but as I was the driver for the evening, I was really pleased to see a selection of driver friendly beers beyond the usual generic offerings. The staff were very friendly and knowledgeable about their products and went above and beyond what I expected - I managed to misplace my phone at the end of the night and they not only searched for it but waited whilst I returned for it. That is integrity and good service!
