We had a 5:30 booking to give us plenty of time prior to an evening concert event at St Martin's A wise choice, as the restaurant was already busy early on a Saturday. We were seated promptly and our drink and food orders were taken in good time. I was just checking their menu to refresh my memory when I discovered that they have shuttered the business as of September 1, 2017. Unfortunate, as they had wonderful food in a convenient, trendy location. Sigh!

It was getting late and the restaurant said Fish & Chips. We are happy we went in to try. The fish and chips was superb. And the tartar sauce was just as good. Portions were a good size and nicely priced. There is a nice selection on the menu. The lamb selection was good too. The restaurant itself is small inside but worth the trip. Seating is in the back for meals. Would recommend Villiers for anyone heading to that area of the city around Trafalgar square and Embankment Station.

I visit the Embankment area of London quite regularly for business meetings at the IET in Savoy Place and used to get Porridge and a Coffee at Costa's outside the Tube Station for my breakfast... Today however I decided to try Villiers Cafe and their porridge with summer berries, with a Decaf Americano coffee. The porridge was a good sized bowl of fresh cooked proper oats that was piping hot and delicious. The coffee was good too as was the service and ambiance of this small London cafe / wine bar. I'd certainly go here for my porridge from now on rather than eating the 'instant' porridge at Costa's. The price of my breakfast was 'okay' at £8.10 but then they automatically add a 12.5% gratuity onto the bill. Now the service was good and I don't mind paying tips, I just hate it when it gets added automatically and it's not brought to my attention when I'm getting the bill. Also one other slight niggle is the fact that they charged an extra £0.30 for Decaf Coffee... This is most unusual as having decaf coffee doesn't normally come at a premium. There is free guest WiFi which is password protected. Anyway in short I did like Villiers and I will have porridge here again for sure.

We came here for breakfast and have been charged with £7.5 for gratitude. All is well until the bill is paid. We were expecting changes - not much but £2.5. Waitress can't be bothered to give change and let us decide if we want to tip extra but confiscated the change. Not acceptable. And when asking for it and the tax invoice, she gave us a death stare. A big no no to customers when it's us to decide to tip the service. Sadly the arrogance has costed them the tips.

Too much ice in the coke. The service was reasonably fast and the staff were attentive. For three meals a £4.50 gratuity charge was added to our bill. I'm all for leaving a tip but I feel it should be up to me to decide.

Villiers Street, where this namesake venue has established itself is awash with eating establishments, from the legendary Gordon's Wine Bar (trading on this site since 1890 making it London's oldest Wine Bar) to the less salubrious Herman Ze German down to the usually chain-stores like Yo Sushi.I'd come to meet a vegetarian friend from Embankment Tube station and was keen to stay in the area as she was heading off to a meeting nearby. So before she arrived, as the venue was new to me, I checked it out and they clearly served breakfast, as it was advertised everywhere saying that they did and there were clearly covers inside enjoying some. But whilst a lunch and dinner menu were clearly displayed by the door, there was no sign of a breakfast one.I was sure they'd have a vegetarian option, so collected my friend from outside Embankment Station and returned. The interior was warm (lots of wood) and inviting. The staff quickly showing us to a table. But when the Menu arrived, I'd realised why I hadn't crossed it's threshold before. It was ludicrously expensive. Something I then recalled from my past, when I remembered they did indeed once have the menu displayed proudly outside.Toast & jam £4, scrambled egg on toast £6.50, Eggs Benedict £11.50 and a Cooked Breakfast (WITHOUT Tea or Coffee) an astounding £13.00.My friend ordered the Avocado on toast with Chilli, Lime & Coriander at £7.00 I went for the Sausage sandwich (which was two cut up sausages placed between pieces of toasted Ciabatta with no butter or other spread) at £6.50. The Soya Mocha I ordered coming at a comparably more reasonably expensive £3.70These are bordering on hotel prices and in many cases exceed The Wosleley on Piccadilly (the Grand Cafe which all other cafes must be measured by).But the food wasn't exceptional (in order to warrant those prices) just merely OK.My friends toast was so hard on the crusts, it made them inedible and she left them. My ciabatta sausage sandwich whilst filling lacked butter or any kind of condiment dressing, which left the bread dry and difficult to digest. The aforementioned Herman Ze German does an Avocado Bun for £4.50, so it's hard to understand why such high prices here. But if you don't mind the expense, this is an OK cafe in the area for brunch, but for a real London experience go to the Cabmen Shelter (Green, Grade Listed II Hut on Northumberland Avenue) just around the corner to get a take-away (only those who've done the Knowledge are allowed to sit down inside) for a real cheap deal (Coffee comes in at a £1) or if lunchtime, experience the history of Gordon's and eat in the wine cellar of a stunning establishment (slightly more expensive than the Hut). So to sum up, nice but pricey!

Small, popular restaurant. Great staff, great patrons. We were starving. They brought our drink orders quickly and our food came out soon after. Service was good, food was delicious, and our fellow restaurant patrons were excellent "hosts" - close seating allowed us the opportunity to meet new people. As we were leaving a large group arrived, taking up all the remaining seats. I can see how service would be quickly overwhelmed by such a large group in such a small space.

We found this little gem of a restaurant the day before we left London. It was one the few places open for early breakfast. We were thrilled. I ordered a sausage and egg sandwich and my husband ordered a egg on toast with a side of hash brown potatoes. Then the bill was calculated wrongly so we asked for it to be changed. I loved the cosy atmosphere (yes as per previous reviews the tables are close together, which is the kind of thing that would usually put me off, but it works here); Mr TF found it cramped and too close to noisy people. The coffee was strong and delicious. Best of all the smashed avocado on toast (the toasted bread was sourdough from a London bakery, it's that kind of place). Service was casual but nothing lacking. We visited for brunch as a treat on our final morning in London as we had walked past all week and thought it looked really inviting. Positives were the décor, great coffee and the eggs benedict that me and one of my daughters had (lovely orange yolks). Unfortunately, several things we asked about on the menu were not available (and the menu is not long), including the pancakes which 3 of us were hoping to have. My other daughter asked instead for soft-boiled eggs but these were really overcooked and no spoon to eat them with or butter for toast (when we asked for a spoon the waitress produced a large tablespoon for what were very small eggs!). The service was friendly but erratic. Overall we left feeling a bit disappointed.

There are two ways of looking at this place. The first is that it squeezes a staggering number of people into a space smaller than most people's drawing room, resulting in - for me at least - slight claustrophobia and a noise level that renders normal speech pointless. That was my immediate reaction when our party of four turned up for lunch yesterday. I was on the point of leaving in search of somewhere else, when I realised that my younger friends seemed to be finding it quite congenial. "Bohemian", one of them said; and that's the second way of approaching it. Suddenly feeling a sour old git, I somehow inserted myself between a table and chair, and I enjoyed a simple but excellent light lunch served by friendly and efficient staff (whose lips I could see moving but who didn't mind at all being asked to repeat everything). Very thin people, or those with impaired hearing, should feel quite at home here.

Walking down the road to get to the tube at Embankment, passing Starbucks Costa etc etc, who in there right mind would want to drink anything Starbucks .. its all rubbish in my view, well we were in luck, a lovely little caffe that did coffee, unlike the rest of the street, we order two coffee from a little girl with blue hair, she was very chatty and as its just before Christmas we got talking about gifts etc, she was giving all her friends and family potatoes, Um ok...... now I think thats a great idea after all the potato is a very versatile thing to have, this could work well if you have loads of people over on Christmas Day and someone was giving sprouts and someone else turkey, gravy, cranberry sauce etc, oh and wine of course. So not such a bad idea, at the time I thought we had a right nutter on our hands, its possibly the blue hair that could've given the wrong impression. However I was not put off the hair or the girl, she made a Wonderfull cup of coffee. thank you and happy new year, Ps, hope they all like the spuds !!

I ate here last night with a friend and it was quite honestly sublime on every level. Intimate, cosy and staff so friendly and attentive that it felt more like being at a good friend's house for dinner rather than a restaurant. The decor is simple and elegant. But the food was the real star. A homemade scotch egg starter with a perfectly gooey runnny orange yolk; salt and pepper squid, fresh and not remotely rubbery; the biggest chunk of tender pulled pork and a homemade Gnocci crammed with wild mushrooms. We were too stuffed for desert. The place is owned by the younger generation of the legendary Gordon's wine bar family on the same street. Having spent much of my 20s drinking there I loved this link. Villiers feels like a younger, hipper, foodie led reinvention of the original. It was almost as crammed and packed as the original Gordons gets and we did have to shout at each over the table at times, so be prepared for that. But for me that was all part of the charm and added to the atmosphere. You don't have to eat either, it is fine to just drink. My friend (from the North and highly cynical of all things London) just adored it and said it was one of the best restaurants he has ever been too. I can't wait to go back. Well done all involved. I could see what a team effort it is. Happy staff and it showed in the service..

She failed to bring the drink I requested and was also completely unwelcoming. Service charge was then added as standard. Sorry but if the service is poor I really dislike this approach. Has potential but service needs to improve.

Stumbled across this restaurant trying to find a pre-theatre meal. Cosy restaurant convenient for Embankment station. Friendly staff and nice selection of dishes / drinks. Had the fish and chips and was nicely presented and tasty. The restaurant has personality and would certainly go back there again.

Enjoy your meal

Cozy small place, efficient team ready to help you and to bring you the delicious Food.I had a 'pinto' which looks like a 'ratatouille' but slightly different. Good choice for a first time over there. The coffee was good as well.

I went to Villiers for lunch/ drinks / nibbles a few times since it opened and thought it would be a great idea to do brunch there with my partner on a sundayWell too bad, not sure what has gone wrong but one tiny egg (30p)and half an avocado (50p), one toast (5p) and one cocktail sausage split in half (pardon chorizo it was, 10p) sold for £12 each before service charge is a bit extravagant!! Wont be back and I don't recommend. Shame as the place is tastefully decorated and the music is good. Our dissatisfaction must have been visible has "we have not added a service charge to your bill"

I go here all the time with work colleagues and friends. It is a lovely place to go unwind and chat with friends. You can reserve a table but don't worry if you don't as they will always seat you. I would advise booking if you are a large party as it's not very big and they will need to create space. The food is lovely, really fresh and well priced.

Have been coming here for breakfast quite a few times when in London during the past summer . Its a great friendly personal venue and it has been the flavours of quality ingredients that added the perfect start to my mornings. Various egg dishes and the smoothies in particular tantalise and excite my taste buds.Service has been excellent and it is in a great location. No negatives in my opinion although I have tasted cheaper but also less flavoursome food in soulless places elsewhere in London.I will return for their daytime cakes soon because feel tempted even thinking about them as I type.

I have dinner yesterday night with my partner and I had the burguer. Surprisingly, it was a small one and overcocked, nothing to compare with the one I had last week. It is really expensive for what you get. This is not value for money. I do not recomend it.

Been to Villiers a few times over the years and met up with some friends visiting from Australia for a quick breakfast.I ordered a coffee which was great, but ordered a second since it the first was so small and it was bitter and not so nice. Also ordered the pancakes and was told by yelling from someone downstairs 'No pancakes today'.Pretty disappointing as we weren't told this before ordering and weren't told in the most polite way.I ordered fried egg, avocado and chorizo on toast. The order was wrong when it came, and was quickly qhisked away.AFter about 10 minutes my meal arrived and the toast was burnt. Couldn't be bothered to send it back as we were in a hurry, I was starving and I had resolved I wasn't going to get a good meal from this place.Really disappointing and not a patch on what it used to be.Would suggest taking your breakfast custom elsewhere as this isn't worth even half of what we paid.

We called in for some wine purely because Gordans wine bar was busy. Great wine but a little cramped. We didn't eat but the food on the next table looked fabulous. Very friendly.

Following my review in Mar 16 when I was unable to visit due to incorrect opening hours being displayed on Villiers' website, I was contacted by the owner and offered a complimentary breakfast when I was able to revisit. Today, I was able to take up that offer and this review is not skewed by the fact that my meal was "on the house".The background music was too loud, in my opinion, and it did not manage to drown out the staff in the kitchen downstairs who could be heard shouting to each other. The tables in the dining area are extremely close together and I should imagine that when this area is full then it is quite noisy and there is no chance of having a private conversation. My breakfast food and coffee were OK but not outstanding and certainly not worth the price quoted on the menu. Having now had the chance to sample the delights of this establishment, I am sorry to say that it is not somewhere that I will be returning to - but the owner will no doubt be pleased that I have at least increased my rating. I wish them well, and there was certainly a healthy take-out service for hot drinks whilst I was there, and from the other reviews it seems to be a popular place for lunch / dinner but it's not for me. I prefer some space between my table and the next, and not to have to shout above the background music to have a conversation.

I came back to this place with my friend to try the new specials and it didn't disappoint. I had the stuff chicken with cream peppers and it was amazing. My friend had the fish skewers with spinach cream and it was the best one he'd never had. This place has an impressive menu when you look a this tiny restaurant. The staff is always very friendly. I'll definitely come back with more friends.

Ready for a late lunch and not interested in a pub, ( seems to me that most pubs in London are owned by the same chains with the same menu). Anyway we stumbles across Villiers, and gave it a try. Loved it.This is real food, served in a no nonsense way, which adds to the feel that they focus on serving good food at reasonable prices, so if you want pretty food served on fine china, you need to keep looking, but if value taste and good ingredients, this is for you.Be warned the burgers are huge....... enjoy

We enjoy finding out-of-the-way, small, individualistic cafes that might not be the height of elegance but have loads of personality. Villiers All Day Dining Room and Coffee Co. (love the name, too) is such a café. It caught our attention between visiting the Horse Guard barracks in the morning and visiting Spencer House late in the afternoon so we decided to try their food. Quinoa Salad with an accompanying light ale hit the spot with an espresso to finish the meals. Tables are packed close to one another but not too close to impact on adjoining diners. Take notice that the toilets are downstairs in the basement requiring you to go down and then climb up a steep staircase to return to the cafe. This could be limiting for people with mobility issues. The staff are super friendly and helpful when suggesting a lighter ale brew that wouldn’t sit heavily after the meal and they smiled, which is a bonus. Don’t bother with fast food takeaways when you have tasty, healthy food in a distinctive, low-key atmosphere like Villiers.

We stumbled in here for dinner one night when we searched Google Maps for "Places the locals go." The restaurant is tiny and pretty busy all the time. I had one of the best chicken Caesar Salads I've ever had- chicken cooked and seasoned perfectly- and my husband had fish and chips. We found that the restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner so the next day, we tried their breakfast and went there every morning for the rest of our vacation! By the third morning. our server knew what we wanted, and for our last morning there, they gave us free coffee. We loved Villiers and hope to return soon.

If a restaurant is going to provide 'classic', simple dishes, then two things are paramount - the sourcing of the ingredients and the care of preparation. There's nowhere to hide. Villier's Eggs Benedict is a case in point. A simple, classic dish with only four ingredients. The bread has to be fresh and crusty (it was). The eggs have to be carefully sourced and perfectly cooked (they were - yolks that deep golden colour you only get from the best free range and delivered to the table judged just right). The bacon was obviously from a great supplier - thickish cut and a proper porky taste. The hollandaise was expertly made with just enough of a vinegar kick. Well-judged cooking using prefect ingredients can make even the most basic dish sing and Villiers does this. The service was very good indeed. There was one of those freak sudden influxes of customers just after I was seated - a quiet little space became suddenly very busy indeed. My waitress remained attentive and seemingly unhurried and unstressed in her work. The decor is just like the food - simple, uncluttered and very well thought out. I very much enjoyed this place and will always support establishments that look to quality, care and intelligence over flash and novelty.

I just sampled the menu at v for a mid week catch up dinner post work and I enjoyed the food. The tables are quite close together so it does feel a bit intimate but actually it creates a cosy feel. The menu is very accessible and not complicated. Fine for a mid week catchup and great location near to station but I wouldn't go for a special occasion. I would definitely return though.

Decided that I wanted a quick me as l while on my way to Vauxhall Gardens, this tiny shop is tucked away and could easily be overlooked. Opted for the fish and chips. Tables were crowed we received our meal quickly. Fish was extremely fresh and done to perfection, crisp and flavorful and the service was excellent. I would definitely go back to try additional items on their menu.
