I will start with the positive, so much to see and discover inside , loved the architecture. Cons : have never had worse food in London . We ordered a pie that was very dry inside and the crust was soggy . My son ordered fish abs chips , fish was almost non existent, was more like batter and chips We were so disappointed would definitely not recommend coming here to eat . For a drink to enjoy the atmosphere only .

The Old Bank of England is an absolute gem. The stunning interior maintains the grandeur of its old bank days, and the addition of a classic London red bus where you can sit and enjoy your drink is such a fun touch. There’s also a nice outdoor area with plenty of tables and chairs, perfect for a relaxed evening. The staff are friendly, the beer is great, and while the prices aren’t the cheapest, they’re reasonable for the quality and location. Definitely worth a visit for a truly London pub experience!

A glorious praise of artchitecture preserved by an incredible pub. The wonderful landmark of an independent, family brewery. This former Bank of England hall on Fleet Street is an honour to the past glory of decorative banking halls beyond wealth. The highly decoratively ornate lattice ceiling calls you in & boost beautifully modernised, scene enhancing great goblet chandeliers over a central square bar surrounded by a variety of padded, studded booths, high low seating. The balcony overlooks the hall with a grand wood & cast iron balustrade. Tastefully modern images of banking heritage decorate the alcove infills a height nestled amongst the decorative gold ceiling edges & pillar tops. Banking hall squared windows open out to Fleet Street. Smooth tunes lull a quiet, mixed London travel crowd of gem finders. The bar has a excellent draught selection & stylishly complements the elegant atmosphere of serious high architectural beauty. A superb example of how pub is synonymous & a contributing continuance of historical societal & architectural legacy.

One of my favorite pubs in London. The Victorian decor is quintessential English and bright and airy decor is a bit of a contrast to the typical dark Tudor pubs. Owned by McMullen the beer and food selection is a refreshing change from the masses of Greene King chains.

It is rare for our reviewers to score low, as we choose venues with high potential, however our reviewers left without ordering after very poor service. They have scored fairly and without bias, but note that they did not sample a drink, or any food. We should add that the pub has wonderful high ceilings, is very historic, but for some reason, it felt poorly heated, on a cold autumnal day, when a warm, snug pub would have been just the ticket. On Saturday 08-Nov, our reviewers sought out this pub at around 5pm after a West End Matinée. The pub was very quiet, but our reviewers stood at the bar unattended for over ten minutes. There were several bar staff who seemed strangely busy at a quiet bar, but they did not make eye contact or suggest they would be a moment.  A professional barperson has a good idea who is next, but whilst waiting, another couple arrived, stood a couple of metres away and got served... they were just in the right place at the right time. After a while, our reviewers spoke to one bar person, who seemed to be passing through rather than serving, asked for help, but after another five minutes, no help arrived, and so our reviewers quietly left. (They chose the busier Blackfriar, a five minute walk away, and got served almost immediately). We do not rate the customer service training at McMullen's pubs, but hats off to Nicholson's and the Blackfriar, who not only looked after our reviewers at the bar, but cooked a delicious meal with excellent waitress service.

Very disappointing for such a beautiful building. I'd have to question whether the positive comments here are indeed genuine.

What made the Old Bank of England fascinating was the history of the building and the very spaces you dine in. The typical fish and chips were on the menu, but what's more fascinating is the fact that its located between Sweeney Todd's barber shop and Mrs Lovett's pie shop! So our area was decorated like the barber shop of Sweeney Todd. Make sure to ask questions and look around as you eat. There's a lot going on around you that you might otherwise miss.

Nicely renovated with respect to the original architectural elements, sophisticated atmosphere with cleverly placed soft lighting and a central bar with a cosmopolitan swift. Lovely English pub with very friendly staff and a welcoming atmosphere. There’s a great selection of beers, and the pub itself has a charming vibe that makes it a nice place to relax. My wife and I decided to try their Wagyu burgers with fries, while our friends opted for fish and chips and two sandwiches. The fries were crispy and delicious, but sadly, the burgers were a letdown—dry, overcooked, and far from the quality we expected. What made things worse was that my wife and I both experienced food poisoning afterward. It was the only meal we had in common that day, so it was clear the issue came from the burgers. We ended up having one of the most miserable nights of our lives, which completely ruined what could have been a pleasant experience. While the staff was friendly and attentive, and the setting was delightful, the quality and safety of the food were unacceptable. Unfortunately, this experience has left us with no desire to return, despite the potential this pub has. I hope the management takes these issues seriously, as it could be a fantastic place if the kitchen’s standards were improved.

We first visited this pub in 2012 and trips to London since have mostly been on a weekend when I believe the pub has been closed. I was really looking forward to our visit, but gone is the serene atmosphere, and open expanse of marvellous architecture. Whatever has happened to the ornate bar. Music blaring out on a Monday lunchtime and TV screen, thankfully muted. £9 for a 175ml red wine overpriced, even by London standards. I suspect the carnage of the unsympathetic alterations has happened recently. Such a shame.

The most dissapointing were the drinks we had cocktails and they were so bad, I returned mine two times and then just gave up and did not drink it, they did not take it back and charged full price for it. The Old Bank of England pub on Fleet Street is a stunning blend of historic grandeur and traditional British pub culture, making it a must-visit for both locals and tourists. Housed in the former Bank of England’s law courts branch, this pub is a feast for the eyes as well as the taste buds. Step inside, and you’re greeted by an opulent interior featuring high, ornate ceilings, gleaming chandeliers, and intricately carved woodwork. The stained-glass windows and marble accents evoke the elegance of its banking past, while the welcoming atmosphere ensures it feels like a cozy escape from the busy streets of London. One of the standout offerings here is the delicious Sunday roast. It’s everything you’d hope for in a classic British roast: tender, perfectly cooked meat (whether beef, chicken, or a vegetarian nut roast), crispy golden roast potatoes, seasonal vegetables, and a rich, flavorful gravy. And, of course, the Yorkshire puddings are enormous and beautifully fluffy, the perfect accompaniment to the meal. It’s hearty, satisfying, and ideal for a leisurely Sunday afternoon with family or friends. The drink menu is equally impressive, featuring a great selection of ales, beers, wines, and spirits to pair with your meal. The friendly service and relaxed yet elegant vibe make it a perfect spot for a Sunday treat. Whether you’re drawn by the pub’s remarkable history, its stunning architecture, or its mouthwatering Sunday roast, the Old Bank of England delivers an experience that’s as rich as its setting. It’s a place you’ll want to return to again and again.

Definitely did the job, portion size was good, but none of the veg was cooked very well, and the stuffing was basic. I certainly wouldn't go back. Also, some people got non Turkey meats for their roasts and had smaller portions with mash instead of roasties? I think everyone would want roasties with an Xmas meal and the same size portion, so that seemed a bit odd. Add onto that that it's quite expensive at 40 quid a head minimum and you have yourself 3 stars!

While our waitress was very sweet and liked the fact that my husband and I are from America (lol) I can’t in good faith recommend this pub to others. Both my husband and I have nut allergies, which was taken very seriously at the pub. We at first appreciated this, until it became apparent that we were told we could not have things on the menu that were actually safe for us to eat (one of the managers brought over a food chart and showed us which foods were safe and not safe. Both of our original orders were in the safe category). Once we finally got our final orders in (over 40 minutes after arriving) we sat there waiting for over an hour with no check in from our waitress or the manager who showed us the chart. Our table was reserved for us from 11:30-1:30, with another party reserving our table from 1:30 until 3:30. We also had ticket reservations for another place and needed to leave in a timely manner. Once 1:15 rolled around, we left some pounds on the table for our two beers and chips that we had ordered (which also came incredibly late into our visit), explained the situation to a nearby waitress (who apologized profusely) and ended up walking out without the mains we ordered. Mixed communication from staff on menu items and forgotten dishes are not our cup of tea unfortunately.

The fish was good, chicken was dry, and the steak was way overcooked--ordered mid rare, it came well done. After ~20 minutes of waiting we finally asked a second time about the steak and they brought it out perfectly cooked--it was very good the second time. Nice atmosphere courtyard has a old red double decker bus fitted out with old fashioned double bus seats tables have been added so you can enjoy your drink in a bus courtyard small but very pretty staff pleasant however service a bit slow

Order was forgetten about. Finally got food an hour after arriving. Copped attitude throughout service. Nice enough food. Lovely setting. Poor experience.

Very sub-par bland microwaved food, with surprisingly high prices. I'd expect better fair even at a Green King, but cute atmosphere and attentive staff

We went to this superb place for lunch last week. The decor is truly magnificent. We ordered one of the famous butternut pies which was delicious and the fries were literally exquisite. The fish and chips looked amazing! For service, simply order at the bar and then you are served at the table. The waiters are adorable and very attentive (a small error on our bill was immediately handled by a very pleasant waitress). In gray and cold November weather, the warmth of this pub comforted us. I highly recommend if you have the chance to pass through this area and consider taking a look at the backyard where the famous red bus is located!

We visited Chucs recently and had a lovely lunch. The club sandwich was delicious. The restaurant itself is quite small so I would recommend booking.

Gran menú con opciones más ligeras y buena relación calidad-precio en vista de su ubicación. Las patatas fritas increíbles y el salmón delicioso

Booked bottomless brunch for my friends birthday. No one was there to great us then we finally caught someones eye we finally sat down 15mins after our booking time. We ordered our first drinks 25mins after start time and received them 35nins later. Sharing plates come the food was FREEZING, the hummus had a brown skin from where it was sat out. Food was awful. Service was so slow. Worst brunch I have been to.

Food fairly tasteless. Very much get you in and out as quick as they can. Not terrible just not good.
