Great steak menu - we stayed over in the hotel and ate in Dukes Steakhouse and were not disappointed. Great Rib Eye cooked perfectly. Succulent Chicken Supreme and we also had baked cheese and prawns as starters which were excellent. Highly recommended, and will come again if in the area.

Having visited recently and experienced and fantastic menu the decision to reduce the 'steakhouse' menu to exclude a 'fillet' option baffled us! Also let down by changes to the starter menu. Thought we were on to a great alternative in the town.. hope things revert back as the staff and experience were excellent.

Fabulous food! The quality of the locally sourced meat is unquestionable, the steaks were incredible, the flavours were enhanced by the wonderful sauces offered as an accompaniment. The restaurant itself is decorated and furnished to a high standard, everything about the experience just felt high quality. The serving team are also exceptional, some very young staff included, all have clearly been trained well and the result is a style of service that can best be described as attentive, efficient and classy, yet friendly and welcoming. Well done, we will be back!

Had an excellent steak here on a Saturday evening. Really well cooked and a good quality. I would suggest you book as it can get busy. Really friendly and attentive staff. Would highly recommend .

Had a lovely meal here with friends on Sunday. The restaurant is lovely with a great ambience. The food was amazing but could have been a little hotter. Good selection of drinks, the tasting of the various wines is encouraged and fun. Staff are friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. Thank you Olivia! We tried Dukes for lunch today (Saturday 10th Feb) during the 30% discount week. In my mind the steak was top quality but having had steak from the same source I'm not surprised. I had the rib eye as did the wife and we think they were cooked exactly to our liking.my wife had the peppercorn sauce (extra £2) and I had the blue cheese butter sauce which I found a bit bland. I think the idea behind the blue cheese butter was it melted on the steak but that didn't happen. We didn't have a starter and we enjoyed our steak course very much. We both had creme brulee for desert which had a lovely taste but in our opinions the portions were a bit small. For the two us drinks/main course/deserts came to about £70 with the introductory discount offer and in my opinion it was worth it. In terms of steak quality I think this is probably the best steak meal you can buy in buckingham and will be a tough act to follow. The atmosphere was a bit quiet for my liking but apparently it is a lot busier in the evening. Would we pay full price for the same meals? It would probably have to be a special occasion for that but wouldnt rule it out. I would rate the whole experience 4/5

Probably not where you'd think to go for burger and fries in town but both the standard and spicy burgers on the bar menu are really good. Fries are nice and crispy too. Great value considering this is a hotel restaurant. been a few times now and it's been great every time. Definitely need to eat over the plate though as its so juicy! Nice bar and restaurant with lovely staff.

The perfect stop on our way home from a hen do to get some vegetables in! A family style roast with perfect potatoes and red cabbage. I had to be rolled out! Highly recommend.

Had dinner here on a Sunday night. The restaurant was quite quiet but had been extremely busy for Sunday lunch we were told. The service was good though, the waitress was very friendly and helpful. We both chose the steak as the other options didn't really appeal a d we felt for us, there wasn't a great choice. However the steak was well worth it, beautifully tender, just the right portion size and I think the chips were the best I've ever tasted! A tad on the pricey side but certainly worth it.

A warm welcome followed by great friendly service. Food was well executed and well presented. We had Sunday lunch and it didn’t disappoint. My thought , you would get better value if you just had mains and a desert.

"Restaurant empty so no ambience. 2 or the 4 drinks ordered Coke Zero and diet were not available. Order 3 scallops at £14 each and received a ridiculously small portion you could barely make it the scallops as they were so small. Pâté was better value and my wife enjoyed it. Both roast beef were well over cooked and chewy. Plenty of veg and liked roasted carrots and parsnips. Service was good but overall experience poor so would not return or recommend."

A small group of us attended for our Work Christmas Lunch. The menu was good and covered everyone's dietary needs. Our waiter was very pleasant and attentive. The food was average and not very warm, but that may be due to the fact the restaurant itself was cold and very drafty. We were the only guests eating so the service was quick. Hopefully they can survive in these difficult business times

Great tasting menu with paired wines Dukes special evening in the Tea rooms provided a fantastic 6 course tasting menu with the highlight of a duck dish that just melted and had tremendous flavour. Dukes has always produced great food and this evening provided a great atmosphere too We will be back for more special evenings like this

My party of six gathered for a 1pm Sunday lunch yesterday to celebrate my brother's 60th birthday. Some of us were running late but the staff could not have been more amenable and understanding and at no point did we feel under pressure to hurry up. Our waitress Charlotte was both efficient and very funny, easily managing the banter and giving as well as she got. She genuinely seemed to enjoy her job and after half an hour or so, she almost felt one of the party. Amber, another member of staff was also lovely and very efficient as was Ryan the barman who we effectionally named Brian. We all had a roast dinner which was plentiful and served nice and hot and we had a great time from start to finish. I highly recommend it for a special occasion or just for a change from cooking at home. Thanks to the team.

Birthday dinner. The staff decorated the table and bought me a card. We ordered a main and desert each. I ordered the pan fried seabass with muscles, clams, on a spiced risotto with a curry risotto. Husband chose the beef bourguignon with roasted chantey carrots and mash. Both dishes were just delightful. We followed this with (me) banana bread, vanilla icecream and jelly with a chunk of peanut brittle, (him) warm almond tart with cherry bakewell icecream, vanilla custard. Both were delicious. The staff were friendly and attentive, the service was well timed. Heartily recommend Dukes.

Our party of 7 attended for a family Sunday roast. The food was amazing, great portions of quality food at a good price. Presentation was great & tasted out of this world. Can’t wait to go back !!

No table clothes!! This is supposed to be a restaurant, not bar snacks. Starters average price £10, mains average price just under £25. Small portions and totally overpriced. I've had a larger piece of Sea Bass on a taster menu When the waitresses asked if everything was alright, I replied 'It's alright ' but didn't expand on our disappointment. When paying the bill we were again asked if everything was alright? My husband said there were a couple of issues, but the waiter didn't enquire further!

Had lunch here before Covid was upon us, so was really looking forward to visiting for dinner. On the night the service was just acceptable, young staff that weren't quite up to the task. Food was as if the chef had been to a cookery college where they had been taught to cook set 'popular' meals. One hopes that when dining out in what purports to be a quality restaurant, you get more than you could prepare yourself at home. My pate starter was nothing more than a slice of pate that looked like it had been cut off a larger block, next to which was a spoonful sized blob of chutney which in turn was next to what looked like rye bread. The presentation looked uninspiring, the taste certainly was. My friend's starter was just as uninspiring. My grilled hake tasted like cod and came placed on a bed of what can only be described as a pile of mixed, frozen veg, over which a hot broth had been poured. Not my best culinary experience. Her steak main course was a little on the chewy side, and again came with minimal presentation appeal. A great disappointment, we will not be rushing back and will look to find an alternative restaurant for our Christmas celebratory meals.

Welcoming staff, Menu has limited choices, but the dinner was very good and enjoyable. The service was very good and nothing was too much trouble for the staff. We also stayed at the hotel and the rooms were very comfortable. We were there during a heat wave which meant that the rooms were a bit warm, but fans were provide for each room.

What a find ! Passing through Buckingham on a business trip we stopped here for lunch. We were not disappointed with our choice. We ordered a Cajun chicken baguette and a smoked salmon and cream cheese baguette with a portion of fries and a couple of beers. The weather was good so we sat outside to the rear of the premises. The food was fresh, tasty and served with a smile by our server Charlotte. Charlotte delivered the most genuine and friendly customer service and was a credit to the business. In conversation she enthused about her job , was interesting to chat with and was a true professional. One area for improvement would be the outside presentation of the premises to the rear of the outdoor seating area. A rotting wooden barrel with a dead plant in it should be removed or replaced. No marks deducted for this though as these issues can be easily remedied!

As part of a deal staying in the Villiers Hotel one dinner was included. We had the most delicious meal. I had smoked trout and quails eggs, followed by baked cod loin and finishing off with crepe brûlée with mint short breads - wonderful. Kate, the manager of the bar and restaurant, is a charming host and we had a very enjoyable evening. We tried to book in for the following evening, Saturday, but the restaurant was fully booked. We had room service instead. Our food was delivered quickly and we enjoyed a quiet night in after a very busy day.

I read the reviews before having dinner here. They mentioned service and food - good and bad. Sometimes things don't go to plan. Anyway, we gave it a go. I had the chicken fricasse and my daughter the duck special. Delicious. What more can I say? Yes, the service was a bit naive. Don't hide behind the desk but be watchful and attentive to guests. The barman could definitely be more approachable and attentive. A "can do" attitude rather than a "job's worth" works. Yes, I can make that cocktail for you and not, it is not on the menu. Definitely give it a go.

I spend my working life in hotels and usually avoid hotel bars when not at work ... but not this one. This is a lovely bar to meet up with friends... great service. Good atmosphere and weather permitting a few outside tables !! Good priced drinks ... Prosecco arrived in an iice bucket & was poured and topped up regularly!!

We visited with family for lunch and were a bit underwhelmed by the experience. The waitress did appear to want to be somewhere else and could not have been described as having great interpersonal skills. The food promised more but for instance the “surf n’ turf” came with what appeared to be oven fries, three peeled king prawns, a reasonable fillet steak and some salsa for £19. Visited this evening with my family for my mums 70 th birthday meal, the hospitality and service was amazing and very much appreciated. The food was exceptional, I had the mackerel starter and the trio of pork main course, it was amazing, can’t recommend highly enough.

We were looking for somewhere to have a light lunch and discovered Dukes in Buckingham. The lunch was delicious, and service by Theo was impeccable. It was a real delight to take a break at Dukes!

Chose the hotel randomly on booking site. Rooms massive, check in extremely helpful and friendly. Then we visited the restaurant, one word WOW!!!! What a menu and what a chef!! We had a great meal here. Tasty and delicious, beautifully presented with a nice selection of wines to go along with the meal. the decor is modern and comfortable and the staff very obliging and friendly. The only thing I didn't like was the loud background music which I felt was inappropriate(also at breakfast) but it didn't detract from our enjoyment of the meal

Went as part of pre-booked and had pre-ordered our meals - after a long wait our starters appeared - generally they were very good, but the waiting staff had trouble getting the orders to the right people.

Looked promising when we booked, the band were ok but the food was awfull, my pork belly was inedible and the desert was we think an overset pan Scott's of unknown flavour. At £40 per person did not represent good value. We will not be attending any further functions on the Villiers ballroom. When it was taken over the launch party was so well done and food on offer was fantastic such a shame it has not followed through to the functions

30+ of us sat down for our Christmas lunch (ordered in advance) and throughly enjoyed ourselves. Excellent service, food and atmosphere. We’ve been before, we’ll be back. We like it.

Given the price (£14.50 for breakfast), we were very disappointed. Buffet was cereals in small cardboard boxes; coffee was tasteless; smoked haddock had been microwaved and was dry; smoked salmon and scrambled eggs was a very small portion. Staff showed no interest in our experience. Wouldn't recommend this.

Came for boxing day lunch which was excellent. Staff are well trained and attentive. The restaurant has a nice ambience and is warm and spacious. Food was excellent with plenty of choice for the set Christmas menu. And a very reasonable price for 3 courses. Would highly recommend and definitely will be returning.

We meet here on occasion for a family lunch and have always found it most congenial.

We had dinner here recently while staying in Buckingham for a couple of days, and though the staff were really pleasant and helpful the food was really lamentable. From potted shrimmps clogged in congealed buitter (it's just supposed to be the thin layer on top) to a rather dry confit leg of duck with canellini beans I imagine straight from the tin would be regrettable. Biut the price tag for this was £22 which felt a bit steep, to say the very least. The welcoming and efficient staff deserve to be serving up much, muuch better food than this.

Dukes Bar is a lovely homely bar within the lovely Villiers Hotel, its small, quiet but very homely. Nice place to relax.

Four of us visited this restaurant last night. I paid £25 ( expensive for this area) for a steak that was hardly edible. The steak was sinewy and tough, although cooked to medium rare as requested, however swamped in pepper sauce. In response to my question I was tersely informed that the chef had twenty five years of experience. Two of my friends were not charged for their meals which must speak. for its self.

In previous years our big annual visit there always seemed to be one person in charge whereas on this occasion it felt more like the restuarant was being run like a bar with various servers.

We booked our table tonight for a party of six adults and three children.

We went to the restaurant on 1 September 2018 with our son and daughter-in-law to celebrate our Ruby Wedding anniversary. The dining room is attractive and seats are comfortable. The food was excellent - we all had different dishes for all three courses apart from two people having the same main course and we all enjoyed it. I suppose it was a bit poncy to have a mini shepherd's pie with the lamb especially as the dish was so tiny it was difficult to get a fork in - some duchesse potatoes would have been better.

A group of six went for evening meal , the food was good however the service was incredibly slow we sat for 30 minutes before a drink order was even taken then the prosecco was served at room temperature and they forgot the flute glasses for it, eventually ordered food starter and main courses , which came in good time then we were forgotten about for desserts and had to ask again and the same wait to pay the bill

A boutique hotel with gorgeous food which was beautifully presented. Some lovely food combinations, served imaginatively. Though busy, we had good service by nice local staff. Good value for money too.

We visited on a Sunday evening to celebrate my birthday. While it took a long time to take our order, the mains were delicious. After the plates were cleared we were ignored for 45 minutes. While two of the staff were newly trained, the manager failed to assist them in any way and, when we managed to get his attention we were ignored still. Feeling very frustrated, we approached the manager - only to be ignored as he walked away into the kitchen. This was incredibly unprofessional as he left one of his newly recruited staff to deal with our complaint - I certainly would not want to work for him. After requesting the bill he ignored our wishes and sent one of the wait staff to take our dessert order - we again asked for the bill. To make matters worse, we were charged the full price despite having been treated terribly. When asked to reduce the price accordingly, the manager refused and merely offered free coffees. Do not visit, unless you want to be treated this poorly.

Four of us attended their recent opening of the new restaurant and decided to go there today for our friends birthday what a good decision. The restaurant is modern and fresh looking staff were attentive. The food was some of the best that I have eaten for a long time. We are so lucky that the new owners Rick and Fi have such a passion for this project and that it is reflected in the menu and surroundings, we will be going back very soon, just what Buckingham needed don't delay book a table and enjoy a great meal

After having booked a lunch in a neighbouring establishment and been ignored we, six adults and two children, called Villiers and were immediately welcomed. Food was good, quick and reasonable. The children wanted something not on the menu, no problem. Service was friendly with a pleasant atmosphere.

I ate at Villier's Restaurant (It's now called Duke's) whilst staying on business staying at the Villiers Hotel. Service was good, and very attentive, and the food was also very pleasant. There is a wide range of breakfast, both buffet style, and freshly cooked. It's great when hot breakfast is cooked to order, like it is here, and not served from hot-plates. i had scrambled egg with salmon both mornings and it was creamy and delicious! it's easy to screw up scrambled eggs - but it was cooked to perfection both mornings. The restaurant in the evening was also good, and an excellent range of a la carte meals. Again, I enjoyed the meal and feel it represented good value for money. Well done all!

My wife and I have eaten regularly at this restaurant and have always had a good meal. The restaurant has recently been revamped and is now Dukes restaurant and bar. The food is still very tasty but the atmosphere and ambience has gone up from 4 to 5 stars. We has the market menu. Marion ate Sea Bream which she said was perfect, and I had the vegetarian option, a wonderful leek and parsnip tart under a crumble top. Imaginative and delicious. The restaurant manager Kate, always friendly and attentive, recommended a good Cotes Du Rhone. We finished up with indulgent choc terrine. They make wonderful puddings, cakes and petit fours here. Great value, great evening. We also had a drink in the bar beforehand. Roaring log fire and a local ale.

Why this place isn't fully booked every Sunday I cannot understand! The lunch menu is very reasonable priced for the quality of food and the lovely dinning room. Service is nice too, attentive without being annoying. The roasts are delicious, and very generous potions.

Rotary Club Christmas Dinner last evening was outstanding. Food for 50 or so people was of universally high standard, hot and promptly served. Beef to die for, as was their Sticky Toffee Pudding! If you're planning a dinner for 50 or 60 people, look no further!

one of the few places that does not have music blaring out it was nice to have a normal conversation with friends the food was good especially the fresh asparagus that was gorgeous the only drawback they could have given fresh French fries instead of frozen ones with the steak. .also the chesses did not have that fresh bite ab0out them

La cama era muy cómoda. La única cosa que habría estado bien sería agua embotellada, como tenía que obtener agua de grifo que no era tan bonita, pero por lo demás no me puedo quejar. El desayuno estaba incluido y que era delicioso y el personal era muy amable. Sin duda merece la pena alojarse aquí si quieres mimarte y tener algo de comodidad. Espero volver pronto. I stopped for a quick working lunch and ordered soup and a sandwich. The offering was acceptable, but basic for the price and lacked any presentation. Most local bakeries would have produced something more tasty for half the price.

The food here is always of a high standard, service is always pitched well, wine list is comprehensive, atmosphere is pleasant and relaxed and you can enjoy a conversation with your friends. The prices are very reasonable, you do not leave feeling you've been ripped off

I ordered a salmon dish for my main course. It arrived less than pleasurably hot. I ventured over towards the kitchen area and explained my meal was lukewarm. After a curt acknowledgement the waiter came to my table, placed the knife and fork on the table cloth and took the plate. Shortly afterwards a female waiter without comment returned the salmon. It could have still been hotter.I didn't feel like finishing the course and debated whether or not to discuss the matter further but my wife and daughter suggested we cancel any idea of a dessert, pay the bill and leave.I'm told the Villiers is under new management. Shame as the old management knew how to run things properly. Last evening was a dire experience.

We visited twice during December. The first time with a very large group (we took over 90% of the restaurant) in the evening and the second time as a couple for lunch.On both occasions the food and service were fabulous.We had the goats cheese to start, followed by steak and for pud - chocolate tart. All without fault.The atmosphere at lunch time was a little lacking, but we arrived early due to a large party coming in (Christmas party time) so this didn't worry us at all.The staff were lovely - attentive but not overly so.We also thought the price was reasonable for the quality of the food.The menu changes monthly and we were going to book to go in February, but there are two fussy eaters in our party and the food choices do not suit. We will, however, definitely be returning!

25 of us sat down to our pre-ordered Christmas lunch. A smooth operation, friendly staff & good food except for... the Brussels- chef had forgotten to cook them!!!! They were like bullets. Nonetheless a good time was had by all.

Myself and my wife have eaten hear several times. The food is always excellent and the staff very helpful and friendly. The Sunday roast is one of the best you can get. We normally eat in the bar where there is a large log fire and comfortable seating. Great food great place great people.

Had my daughters wedding reception here and it was faultless , good service , excellent reception food, great staff and really was surprised at level of expertise weaved by staff & managements. Cool wedding reception room with plenty of room and atmosphere for a wedding.

A high quality three course meal for £23 was a delight at this hotel. Not an extensive choice but we were surprised by the excellent presentation and quality of the food.

Well-cooked and tasty food, but my dinner was spoiled by the fact that the portion size of my vegetarian savoury crumble was so tiny that I was still really hungry afterwards. Small ramekin-dish sized portion of crumble and a couple of pieces of sprouting broccoli - more like a starter than a main meal. The cheesecake I had to follow wasn't a baked cheesecake but a mousse - another disappointment.

We went to the 'Steak & Surf' evening and ordered a starter and the main Steak & Surf main course. The starter was lovely, the steak was tough to say the least, I left most of mine. When I complained the the head waitress, she did not seem to bothered (or surprised), and all she waould offer as compensation was half price on ONE of the starters.I have not been back since.

My husband and I have been here for dinner a couple of times, a Sunday roast and also for Afternoon Tea for an anniversary celebration. The service is very good, the decor is lovely. The menu is nice, the portions are bigger than you might expect! It's a great place to eat, certainly one of our favourites and we'll be back.

We stayed here last week for two nights. We had an amazing deal- dinner, bed and breakfast in a very pleasant double roomy double room. The food was excellent and the staff very friendly and helpful. We were also given free entrance tickets to Warwick Castle (worth £40!) it was our wedding anniversary and we really enjoyed our stay.

I was passing though Buckingham and called in at Hotel to ask if they did breakfast for non residents Happily they did.. Very nice breakfast at £14.50. Good choice of cooked breakfasts plus the usual juices/ cereals.. Nice friendly staff.

Met a friend in the town and the venue was chosen by her. It was a quiet lunchtime (Monday) so difficult to judge how they would cope in busy times. We had a drink in the bar area first, then went into the restaurantThe restaurant was excellently laid out, clean tablecloths, napkins, glassware and cutlery. Nice mini floral pot set off the table nicely. Seats were comfortable.The lunch menu was not extensive, but interesting. Service was excellent, the waiter well trained, efficient and unobtrusive. The presentation of all courses was of an excellent standardI had spicy fish, with lentils in a curry type sauce. I would concur with the observation from another reviewer that portions were small and it could have done with some other vegetables on the plate as well. Having said that, the food was well presented and was quite tasty.My dessert was a peanut butter cheesecake, which I chose for it's novelty value and was pleasantly surprised by it. It comes as an individual cheesecake, light, smooth and quite tasty.I had coffee afterwards, which was quite ordinary.

What a lovely restaurant to meet for a unhurried lunch with friends, the food was excellent and very good value.The staff were very pleasant, and the environment very relaxing with two beautiful fish tanks.

The hotel/restaurant is lovely - lovely ambience, friendly and efficient staff, and beautiful building. They accommodated our unusual party (17!) by seating us in a square, which was actually great for conversation with lots of people.However the portions were too small, just a small dampener on the evening.

Great meal and evening too. Opted for the special for once, moules et frites x 2.. washed down with a lovely chilled bottle of chenin blanc, South African IIRC. Well priced, good service too, would return for sure :)
