Our first trip to this restaurant was amazing. The venue is bright and clean and perfect for football lovers to have a lazy lunch whilst watching the match. So much choice on the menu & the food was hot, tasty and quick to arrive. Our waitress was outstanding and did everything possible to make our lunch perfect. We got a free dessert for a birthday celebration plus 25% off the meal which was a really kind gesture and very much appreciated. Staff were friendly and helpful. Free 4 hour parking plus ample parking spaces is a bonus. Would highly recommend and will definitely be coming back again.

Did not stay here I had a Christmas work meal. Firstly there was an extremely limited menu but it looked OK. In reality the food was awful. Myself and a number of my colleagues agreed it was like having a school dinner. Soup starter was OK. Christmas dinner was disgusting, rock hard veg. The turkey was like something you would get out of a packet from a supermarket. The pudding was meant to be baileys profiteroles (only option on the menu) but ended up being a raisin cheesecake, which was very weird and mostly left. Thankfully my work paid for this as I would have refused. The bar area was lovely and the staff were super friendly. Would like to say I would go back for a drink but at £8 for a glass of Prosecco I think I’ll give it a miss.

I came here for a lunch (not a guest in the hotel) and the dish I ordered was very tasty so no complaints on that front. However I wasn't able to eat the whole thing. When I asked if I could get a container to take away the rest of it, they said that they didn't do that! What a shocking waste of food - are they going to just throw it out instead? I've never had this response from a restaurant before and it is a baffling policy. Would be very reluctant to come back.

I love the Village Hotel Basingstoke. I am a member and swim there regularly. Have just had a delicious lunch in the pub grill today. It was a grilled chicken wrap and fries. Great value at £9. I was ably served by Ryan- he was smiling and welcoming. It’s not always easy eating on your own but he made me feel comfortable. Martin also impressed me. They were friendly and helpful and they both worked hard cleaning tables when not serving. I have been here lots of times and never been disappointed yet. Thanks. Sent from my iPhone

I’d been keen to try the Village Pub & Grill since the hotel opened in early 2020. Sadly Covid-19 intervened and I couldn’t straight away. This is the main bar/restaurant for the Village Hotel and when it opened (we did visit to see the gym) it looked great with big HD TVs for sports, including two with big sofas in front and one with cinema seating! It looked buzzy and fun. I took the opportunity to visit using the Eat Out to Help Out scheme. Booking online was challenging. I’ll comment on this later. Nothing to be faulted with the staff, they were friendly and welcoming and Covid measures were all in place and good. It has to be said that the measure do impact the atmosphere as the spacing out of the tables and the modern nature of the hotel meant the space ended up being a bit “dull” But this is hardly the hotel’s fault. The menu I am assuming is limited at the moment. Normally they do various theme nights, curry night, burger night etc. There is a wide choice of burgers, some snacking stuff such as wings, cheesy fries etc and a small handful of “main” meals. I ordered chicken tenders and cheesy fries for my daughter. She got chicken wings and cheesy fries - luckily she likes wings and they were good. The lattice fries were nice but utterly drenched in American style cheesy sauce which is nice up to a point! I had a Beyond Meat vegan burger. Not because I’m a vegan but because I’m after that holy grail of a decent meat alternative. The Beyond Meat burger is the nearest I’ve found to date. And it was perfectly good here with (dry) lattice fries in place of the sweet potato option. We then had puddings, chocolate pot for my daughter, lemon cheesecake pot for me. In retrospect, we shouldn’t have bothered. The chocolate pot was Ok but buried under a pile of whipped cream. The lemon cheesecake pot was lemon mousse on crumbled biscuits. Had it been a third smaller, I might have been OK - but both were a bit disappointing and “meh” In better times, I reckon this place will deserve a better review and I emphasise that the staff were great. But I’ll probably not return until those time. On this issue of booking, I had originally wanted to book for three of us. But all efforts on the online booking system failed to provide any availability whatsoever on any date in August. So I was booked for 2 at 6pm on the day we visited. Efforts to book 3 failed “there is no availability at the time you’ve chosen or three hours either side” was the message. Luckily my wife had made arrangements with a friend elsewhere so just me and my daughter visiting was fine. But I couldn’t fail to notice that for the entirety of the time we were there a number of tables for 3 and 4 remained vacant. I had attempted to address this issue with the booking system with Village Hotels beforehand but they weren’t overly interested.

Lovely relaxed brunch in the new setting at Worting House. New setting is beautiful with all the spring bulbs coming up in the grounds. Café has been tastefully decorated and we had great service from our pleasant young waitresses. Lots of interesting choices on the brunch menu. We had poached egg and avocado on sough dough and bacon and egg French toast. Both delicious. Looking forward to trying more of the choices next time.
