Popped in again for refreshments briefly whilst out cycling. Every time I go in I’m met with a smile from the friendly staff and owners. Love this place and its position in the village is great for people watching. Today I had an oat flat white and a piece of amazing tortilla. Thanks again.

Fancied some lunch but nothing really grabbed me off the menu, so had a flat white and a scone… couldn’t decide between the amazing selection of cakes!!! Got a scone for a change, even warmed it without asking! It was the best scone I’ve ever had! And no egg a bonus(allergic) Flat white was perfect too, nice and hot!!! Lovely cafe, will be returning for another coffee and cake with my dog soon, super friendly helpful guy serving too 😀

My husband and I visited the Village Green today after a very wet walk around the local area with our two very soggy dogs. The welcome from the staff could not have been warmer. We were offered a hot drink very quickly, and the coffee was great. My husband had the toastie/soup and I ordered a savoury tart (quiche) with salad. The food was beautiful, with really lovely salad and homemade coleslaw too. The service from the staff was the best we have experienced during this trip to the Peak District, and the dogs enjoyed their treats too. The cafe also sells gifts and cards from local small business which was a nice touch.

Went today, was takeout only as short staffed, but wonderful polite staff who apologised for the wait even though we weren't bothered in the slightest, First best coffee I have had in a long while..we shared a variety of savouries and cakes, frittata and spinach pie were delicious, the spinach pie on par with some of the best I've had in Greece. I can't remember all the cakes , but one was whiskey fruit cake and delicious and an orange and pistachio with rose petals. The most perfect cake I have ever tasted, the young server's were attentive without being pushy. Thank you so much for a wonderful lunch break in the glorious peak sunshine.

We have been here many times and spent hundreds of pounds over the years but we won't be going again. We were celebrating our anniversary and booked in advance making it clear that one of the party is GF due to a severe allergy. We arrived to find one male server who clearly was unable to cope as he was doing the bar as well as serving on the tables. We had to sit in the bar to start without being offered a drink then were taken to our table but despite reiterating my allergy I was served gluten containing bread which I had to point out. It was taken away and replaced by molten GF bread followed swiftly by a sirloin steak in what purported to be a peppercorn sauce which, although tasty, contained lots of unexpected herbs and was extremely watery. We were asked if we wanted a side and were sold a cauliflower cheese which chef bought to our table pointing out that it contained GLUTEN!!! At no stage did anyone apologise for selling us a side that was totally inappropriate. Nor did they enquire if everything was satisfactory. When we came to leave a miserly 10% was knocked off the bill which included the gluten containing cauliflower cheese! You'd have thought the least they could do was subtract it from the bill but no they charged me for it! So in reality the 10% after subtracting the cost of the cauliflower cheese came to an allowance of less than 2 pounds! Needless to say I was not impressed and felt the servers paltry allowance for what he called the gluten fiasco was wholly inadequate and really added insult to injury.
